Fledglings May 2021 thread: MAYbe we’ll keep our routines going as the outside world opens up 😊

Welcome fledglings to May’s Flylady thread – many, many thanks to ED for her expert guidance through April 2021.

All are welcome and especially Newbies. Don’t be shy in making yourselves known because we are a friendly bunch.
We follow Flylady’s system for house and sanity maintenance which is based around 5 room zones spread over the month. There is a weekly quick home clean in the midst of more thorough zone cleaning. I am an aging fledgling who really should be more proactive about following the plan but to be frank I enjoy the natter and good company more than I enjoy cleaning. Every day I will be checking in and giving the ‘flight plan’ for the day with links to the Flylady site. You can join Flylady on her site for email updates but she does like to send a lot out, just so you know!
The most importantist thing to know is that you are NEVER behind – just do what you can when you can. Many of us post ta da lists as we cross items off our [never-ending] to do lists.
You may find the following acronyms along the way (adapted below from ED’s useful list from April)
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low or when life becomes overwhelming. Usually enticing food is left there with squishy cushions.
KCC – (Keep calm corner) these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Found a shirt! stuck shirts load on for proper wash, stuff needed into dryer and going to take a nap for an hour!

Forget the going. today hurts.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 10/05/2021 07:29

Urgh. New bathroom is now actively dripping through the music room ceiling, so I have wet carpet to add to my woes. It is, at least, clean water, I think.

Cloud I'm so sorry people were rude about your baby name. My DS3 is called something that was popular 100 years ago but now struggles to make it into the top 1000 baby names in the UK and some people were very rude when he was born. Sod 'em, he's our child and he suits his name. We're just not going to find a water bottle with it printed on any time soon!

Long list today, must get going v shortly:
🧙 Many emails
🧙 Sort out inbox as it is tipping into the wrong place
🧙 Phone call to confirm Weds appt, I think I have the time wrong
🧙 Lidl
🧙 DD to do first Latin exam
🧙 DS2 to revise and go to work
🧙 DS3 to do homework and science lesson
🧙 Tea from the freezer.

Must get on.

🍒👋 to everyone!

SingToTheSky · 10/05/2021 07:33

I may have gone downstairs just to bring breakfast back up to bed! DD1 is up and about but I know she’s really not wanting to go to school today (friend turned against her recently... teens! Gah!!!) and she needs to do her LFT as well.

Hoping red is ok. Can’t remember when she’s due back - looking forward to hearing all about the trip!

Hills hurrah for finding a shirt and for self-starting teen!

Cloud Emmi is a lovely name! Sorry people have been mean about your choice for DS. People have been funny about Cagletini’s name, Rowan - because it is mainly a boy’s name. My mum (70) grew up with a female Rowan though and it’s also a female book character from the 70s. And even so, who cares. Can’t please everyone! 🤷‍♀️ (Not that I blame you for being bothered by the comments though, I really hate feeling criticised!) 💐

I think it’s time to ditch the night nappies altogether with Cagletini. She’s in the habit of using the potty just before her bath, and she’s not been wet at night for a while. She seems to have much worse sleep when we do manage to put a nappy on her (and we have to fight to do that once she’s asleep) - the second she wakes up she cries and takes it off anyway. The nights I don’t get one on her she pretty much sleeps through. So I think we will all be better off if we just go without and deal with the occasional wet sheets now. I’ll double up on the protector/fitted sheet as I believe was recommended on here.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/05/2021 08:10

Good luck with no nappies sing

2 of my 5 have more unusual names cloud, i have a pretty thick skin though and am good at ignoring peoples opinions! Good you are mostly set up for baby now, how long do you have left? I have LESS THAN 8 WHOLE WEEKS

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/05/2021 09:22

Good job you checked the date zoo! I wouldn't have!

The spd does seem be ramping up now. Not much can do at this point. They wont want me on stronger painkillers too near to birth, i wont get seen by physio, i cant use crutches and see to a one year old! So i will just carry on 🤷‍♀️

Ta da
✅ all up fed dressed
✅ todays uniforms ironed
✅ dc1&2 directed out of the door to school
✅ dc3&4 dropped at school with all relevent kit, instuments, library books etc (pram doubled up as wheel barrow today)
✅ topped up parent pay

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 10/05/2021 09:59

Less than 8 weeks? Oh my goodness, That that's suddenly very close. Glad you got everyone out to school in one piece.

Red hope you are having a lovely time.

Sing good luck with nappies.

Zoo really good job you checked the milk date, ot wouldn't have occurred to me!

Plumbers have arrived. Problem isolated to the central heating, which has lost 2 bars of pressure and most of its water into the carpet since Saturday morning. I have emptied the end of the music room of moveable instruments (ukeleles, half a drum kit, tenor recorder, accordion), 3 bookshelves, 5 pictures and the piano stool. They are now drilling up from under rather than smashing out the new tiling, which is probably good.

I'm trying to see this as a) a minor blessing no instruments got wet and b) an opportunity to review the bookshelves. Otherwise I may cry.

halfhope · 10/05/2021 10:02

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 10/05/2021 10:46

zoo my new pram has an EPIC basket! Apparently it can take the weight of a toddler (i havent tested this as mine may run away and i cannot run atm) I have seen several reviews though where people say "if you dont have the second seat with you just put toddler in the basket" 🤣

Dancingtomusic · 10/05/2021 12:01

Hi Everyone 🍒👋
What have i been missing? Have there been missing silly messages? I notice one has been deleted above....

Cloud- there are mean ppl on some threads....thats why I stay on here...its kinder and safer.

Willow- oh no about the leak! Thank goodness they are drilling from underneath and thank goodness no instruments were harmed in the flood! Have you got biceps from moving all that stuff?! Sending you a big hug!

What the hell, a big hug to you all!
So lovely to be back...missed you guys!
I just finished my online interview...been preparing for that...I got lovely feedback.
Going to sit and not do anything so I try and recover.

🍒👋 and hugs everyone! Back in abit.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 10/05/2021 12:28

Oh for god's sake, are they still at it? That poor cat! 🤣

I now have a massive hole in the music room ceiling and am off in a minute to collect a dehumidifier. My brother in law is dropping another one at DM's tonight for me to pick up tomorrow. This means, of course, that I have to move the rest of the drum kit (probably into DS2's room) and the piano. This could be problematic.

That my best ever pram basket was on the old-fashioned Silver Cross we bought when DS2 was little. There was a reason people used them with multiple children close together - the baby and a toddler in the pram and another one underneath. Or a full week's worth of shopping!

zoo you've achieved so much! Sorry the croissants got ruined and spoiled Lil zoo's process.

Ta da:
💖 Up, washed, dressed, medicated
🧡 hoovered downstairs while DH took the dog out
💛 Introduced pumber to problem with heating
💚 winced as plumber cut huge hole in ceiling
💙 arranged to borrow dehumidifiers
💜 Emailed re: meetings with actual friends for DS3
🤎 confirmed OT appt for Thursday, in person
🖤 tried to book haircut for dog
💖 Confirmed telephone appt time for Wednesday
🧡 Spoke to tree surgeon about taking down dead cherry tree
💛 Printed DD's Latin exam and got her going on that

Must now clear space for the piano and think about lunch. Lidl is not going to happen, DS3 might be meeting an Actual Friend at the park.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 10/05/2021 12:30

Ooh, cross post Dancing - good news re: online interview! and hurrah for lovely feedback, always makes one feel better. Sit and bask in the glow of achievement for a bit.

halfhope · 10/05/2021 13:07

Yes Dancing we've had thread posts from spammers which have had unsavoury messages. Not as clean as we would like! Congrats on your interview and well done on the feedback. You must be feeling pleased!

Willow chezWillow sounds very busy today. I hope things get sorted with the leak. Horribly frustrating.

I am off to change the bed and do the swish and swipe for the bathrooms - might give main bathroom a more close clean.

halfhope · 10/05/2021 13:09

I have to say I have a vision of a hairdresser holding your dog's ears up Willow and saying 'how short at the back?' Grin

Save the piano! 🎹 be careful willow moving piano, lovely....

Oh god its nearly school pick up time....

Dancingtomusic · 10/05/2021 16:04

Just catching up with the thread...
bare with me
.....cancel that...erm...dont want to encourage them 😬

Hills- I hope the pain has gone and you feel ok?

That- I have just seen your message from 11.29am....(snigger...😆)

Dancingtomusic · 10/05/2021 16:15

That- your new pram sounds lovely! If it can be used as a wheel barrow...its bloody brilliant...need pictures! I love old silvercross's.

I followed a lady with a double tandem pushchair- it had a toddler seat made of bamboo!! I wanted it! Quinny something.

Zoo- oh no, that it was the grill not the oven on! Hug!
Milk...and bread....ans marge...they constantly run out...but must run out more with teenagers! Hope you rest Zoo after you have done so much!
My sitting room floor looks like a dinosaur pooed out paper, books, pencils and felt tips.
Its a midden here.
Ooooo Mc- dont you worry about your place, just enjoy the lovely baby cuddles and take lots of pictures. The stairgate was the most used item here...we had....5 in this house...one to contain them in sitting room, top and bottom of stairs, office and 2 bedrooms. (I was too ill to run after 2 under 2.) We still have the one at the top of the stairs!

Hope red is ok too.

halfhope · 10/05/2021 17:26

Another ASDA run today - replaced tubberware. Huge dinner so just stuffed now. More work work to do tonight but just settling down to a coffee now

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 10/05/2021 17:48

Willow gosh, what a saga with your bathrooms. Are you going to call piano moving guys to move it or do it yourself? I guess they shouldn't charge much at all, as it is all within same house. Then the hassle with retuning.. By the way, your music room sounds fab! Do you/your family get to play often?
Dancing what good news re your interview! Very happy for yoj it went well.
Hope may your work goes smoothly.

Ta das:
💥Batch cooked food for the baby
💥Beds stripped and remade
💥Proper dusting and tidy up of the bedroom
💥Lots of time outside - walking and in the garden with the baby

To do:

  • reclaim kitchen after dinner
  • S&S

I seem to be out of sync with the zones..

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/05/2021 19:34
