Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

I have et too much chocolate.

We had snow too, tiny bit on the grass when we got up and a brief flurry at about 7pm. In between it was apparently 6 or 7 degrees but it felt BITTER

Did last night's washing up (in several goes)
re-heated the stock
exercise class
went shopping; got half-price beef joint but the half-price lamb leg was sold out
put shopping away
made curry
finished Maskerade's BH crossword, not as fiendish as sometimes

Filled up and recycled notebook (a 2017 diary). Need to get a new one out, if I can remember where I put them

ToMorrow
clean bathroom, ffs
towel wash
send pdfs to vicar to circulate
deal with some more emails
make a start on clearing out subdirectory titled "current meeting"
make stuffing
stuff hearts, put in slow cooker
maybe leave the chocolate for a bit

Love the photos. I will need to take a photo of DD’s cupboardship it would fit nicely on your barge. Baby looks so cute, snuggled in.

Waders the cake looks lovely. I didn’t get around to making one. Maybe tomorrow. We do like them. I had three lots of workman in the house last week.

I made an Easter garden in a wheelbarrow a few others did too.
We had seafood - smoked salmon, gravlax, crab, prawns and crayfish tails on salad.DH made most of it. Roast Lamb, Roast potatoes, new potatoes, sweet potato, squash, carrots and peas. Fresh strawberries raspberries and cream. I was half way through making a trifle but the boys said they couldn’t eat it. Youngest was poorly with migraine. We won’t be able to see them safely after the 11th because they start back to work so saw them yesterday. They work together and have been back in to do the ordering. DS2 has to organise all the rotas. They can’t open full time and are trying to organise safe seating. He has had to have meetings with the council about pavement seating and how much they are allowed.

So after a year...I now have a plastered and now painted hall. The two extra tiles arrived and are on the wall and today Dbuilder grouted them for me. Put quarry tiles on the door step and grouted those. Laid base for greenhouse last week. The loft was insulated and is now the legal requirement so probably put us up a letter. We cant insulate the walls as they are very thick stone inside and out.
DH and I have started tidying the garden after the winter. I vacuumed the Summerhouse today. Next week I am going to paint the doors if it is fine.

Ships wow, what a list! You must be exhausted. Swimming classes, I delegated those to DH to sort out. I swim like a brick, and don't particularly like getting into the water unless I absolutely have to (with obvious exception of showers and baths!), hence now it's DH's job to make sure DS can swim 😬
Waders vinyl looks very pretty 😊 Looks like you had a very busy long weekend.
Merry stuffed hearts! That sounds exotic. What do you stuff them with?

I was going to say something else, but I forgot. Apologies..

In addition to previous Ta Das:
💥Tidied the kitchen: DW rotated, counters wiped, cupboard fronts wiped, window sill wiped, hob cleaned. Did not clean the top of the cupboards though as per today's mission..
💥Did another LOL

I need to clean the oven tomorrow.. But that will be tomorrow.

I hate insomnia....

HazelNuttyElf · 06/04/2021 06:30

Hello all! I haven't even got on this thread yet 🤦‍♀️
Thank you ED for doing April.
I hope everyone had a good Easter, it sounded like lots of you had some good family time.
We had family over this weekend, did an Easter egg hunt for DS and my nieces and nephew.

So today we talked to our realtor. Our buyer isn't holding up his end of the deal and hasn't sent his earnest money in yet. More than likely we'll be re-listing the house as for sale again, instead of the pending it is now. I'll hear from her tomorrow. She's NEVER had a buyer not give their earnest money so she doesn't know how to proceed. She's been in the business over 20 years (if not longer)
Anyway, tomorrow I'm going to be zooming around the house to get it perfect again, in case we have showings tomorrow. Stupid bastard of a buyer we had 🤬 I hope his balls fall off 😤

I did read about some dickish behaviour on the man front for a few of you, I'm sorry to hear that. Also sorry to hear about the abuse many of you have suffered.
zoo I'm sorry you have insomnia 😔 I hope you can get some rest in today.

🍒👋 to everyone

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/04/2021 07:12

The sun is out buts according to my phone its 0 degrees out there! 🌞

waders that window looks good! Was it hard to do? I bought some ages ago to do our utility room but have been afraid of doing it! I also want to paint said utility room which i suppose i should do first Hmm

zoo sorry for lack of sleep! Nap today!

There are LESS than 13 weeks before my due date!

I am not looking forward to this half term, the dc have been bickering a lot and i have already had words with dc1 who has now flounced off back to bed. Send cake.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/04/2021 08:45

Oh does anyone with a clue about how gcses work know what like the pass mark would be? Say i know 75% of the stuff could i pass Blush or do i really have to try and learn it all

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 08:46

Oh no Hazel how frustrating. House buying and selling is so stressful.

Right, lazy morning here as no school or work. Cats are due at the vets at 9.30 so I have locked them in and they are not happy. But I've got to find a way of getting to the shed for their carrier without them escaping.

DaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/04/2021 09:15

I have been told grade will come from submitted work (need to actually do most of this Blush) couple practice papers done at home and a paper done in test conditions via zoom

I'm just wondering if i can pick a couple of topics and not bother with them Blush

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/04/2021 09:18

Cannot believe your dd2 nearly 17 zoo how did that happen? Sure she was about 14 last week Grin

Spd has actually been starting to ramp up in past week unfortunatlely! Had been doing well so far due to lockdown but think school runs plus size are now having an impact

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 10:05

That - which subject is it? If it's maths it will depend on whether you have been entered for the foundation or higher grade. They wouldn't have entered you for higher if they weren't fairly sure you'd pass. DS did Foundation, the papers are easier but you have to get a higher score to get a pass.

OP posts:
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/04/2021 10:12

Maths and i think its just foundation as i havent been told otherwise

Redsquirrel5 · 06/04/2021 10:32

ships that is some list! You must have been on fire yesterday no wonder you’re tired.

Waders love the window. It is rather William Morris!
Ha ha! I always want to clean after How clean is your house? Was that the two Aggies? I have the book somewhere for the cleaning recipes. Perhaps I will find it when I put the bookcase back together. I clean after a hoarders programme too I think it is because I am frightened I might end up a bit like that. I understand about not parting with some things. A woman threw out a beautiful Christening robe in one because her friend didn’t need it. I was horrified. I don’t understand the stacking of newspapers. I do have some -toomany- magazines but I am putting a lot in the Summer house as I do like to read them down there and I sort through the cheap ones regularly. Country Living I find harder to get rid of but it is on my to do list.

Merry glad to see someone else that recycles an old diary😁
It was 11C at the warmest yesterday and forecast -2 last night. We had some ice on the troughs yesterday. Put some more straw in the hen house.

Hens are out of lockdown! Folded the plastic tarpaulin and put it away.

Hazel what an absolute dick. I hope it gets sorted. Will the realtor phone around the people who did put in an offer? In Scotland you can’t pull out once you have put in a bid and it has been accepted.

Zoo assist by making a to do list then let them get on with it. Threaten inspection and reward. Sorry for lack of sleep. I went late but slept really well after about 3am -7:30am then dozed until 8:30 and had to get up to phone GP surgery. I still have a headache every day since jab. Same place and comes on suddenly and a bit fierce.

That I still have room under greenhouse slabs. Sorry to hear sad is kicking in. Goodness a new baby just in time for the holidays. Bless you I hope all goes well. I have three photos of new nephew. So cute.

Well better get off back side. I was going to clean bookcase DH offered to get sander for me as it was on a high shelf in shed.😳but now he is using it😳shocked. I have decided to clean bookcase and keep it for now and maybe replace later. Extra expense and once books are on may not need it. DH made it shall we say it is “rustic” no joints just thick wood two pieces and five shelves attached with brackets. He took a bit off the top as he said it would fit due to new replastered ceiling he took about 5 “ when a slither would have been enough. It may look ok when cleaned, waxed and books back.

Will check fly lady list and need to do home bleugh because yesterday was a holiday.😁🤷🏼‍♀️

Going for a walk later after GP phones to see why they have closed the road and why we had a digger on the village green for four days. Also the weird bright orange lit machine on a low loader that didn’t seem to know where it was going so drove around the block twice after sitting for ages blinding us. Why not get out of you cab and ask if you are lost!🤷🏼‍♀️ Tatty byes till later.

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 10:35

That - yes, almost certainly foundation, I would think. The highest grade you can get in Foundation is a 5 (4 is the "pass") so unfortunately missing any subject areas entirely is a bit risky.

OP posts:
THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/04/2021 10:39

Oh bum Sad better pull ones finger out then

SingToTheSky · 06/04/2021 10:49

I bet you’ll be grand that we are all cheering you on! Hopefully “D”P will actually participate in family responsibilities more so you can have more study time.

Aaaaargh hazel so sorry to hear about the house sale nightmare. You may bury the buyer’s balls in the patio, if you like.

Quiet morning so far - Cagletini sounds awful, not struggling to breathe (thank you for advice zoo 💐) and not a continuous cough, no fever either. Lots of snuggles and cartoons are the order of the day and her Easter money purchases arrived yesterday so she can enjoy playing with those later if she’s up to it.

It’s hard when they are this little and have a bug like this - there isn’t any chesty cough medicine for 3 year olds anymore is there? And it’s not like I can make her sit over a bowl of steam like I do! Any tips would be much appreciated, I don’t think she needs to see a doctor but want to make her more comfortable.

I need to write a list of clothes the Caglets need I don’t want to be among the initial crowds at primark but DS is outgrowing everything! Cagletini has some next size up stuff I bought in sales, hoping to eke out her current stuff until the end of next term so her new clothes get some decent wear before being trashed at nursery 🤣 DD1 is more difficult as she’s basically in a small adult size now and very picky about textures etc, but even when it was allowed pre covid she abhors changing rooms 🤦🏽‍♀️. And she likes styles that are mostly available via eBay and Aliexpress etc. Sigh.

EventuallyDistracted · 06/04/2021 10:55

Sing - when mine got chesty when they were little I used to run a hot shower till the bathroom was nice and steamy then take them in there for a while. Sympathy over young teen clothes buying, my two are a bit older but still both between child and young adult sizes, they both need about age 14-15 and there's not much in the shops.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 06/04/2021 11:03

www.boots.com/bronchostop-junior-cough-syrup-120ml-10269742p

Not used it but this one says dry or chesty from 1 year+

SingToTheSky · 06/04/2021 11:09

Thanks ed! :) That’s a good idea with the steam. Could run DH’s bath as he likes them insanely hot.

Nightmare isn’t it with the clothes. We are lucky to have a massive asda nearby so have been able to pick up the odd thing when needed but even the basics are getting pricier! Luckily DS prefers just joggers and t-shirts so it’s easy for me to shop for him and he has often had handmedowns from bigger friends so he’s ended up with loads of minecraft etc which he loves! I always look in Boots for sale lines for Cagletini.

DD1 is tidying her room. All I’ve really done today is given the WM seal a really thorough wipe round - had a brief panic as it looked grubby but thankfully it was fluff not mould!

SingToTheSky · 06/04/2021 11:10

Ooh wow thanks that hadn’t heard of it!

merryhouse · 06/04/2021 12:34

Mc - on the contrary, I view hearts as my Salt Of The Earth getting Back To My Roots dinner Grin

Stuffed with thyme and parsley stuffing, which one used to be able to pick up in the supermarket but which nowadays I have to make (suet and breadcrumbs and an egg). An afternoon in the slow cooker with red wine (slightly less of my roots and more of H's there...)

Not actually going to do it today, as S1 informed me at lunch that he wouldn't be in for dinner [eyeroll]. Having a chilli instead. Though looking out of the window at the swirly white bits I'm wondering whether they might decide to cancel. S2 has already left to meet his friends, so he's not going to be pleased.

SingToTheSky · 06/04/2021 12:51

DH likes hearts but just has them as they are (cooked, obv)

I need the pointy stick before I end up merged with the sofa!
