Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Morning
I was asleep by 1030,woke only once in night.by my reckoning I've had 7 hours sleepShock
I feel a big list may be coming on....
Happy Easter fledglings!

MrsTidyHouse · 04/04/2021 06:54

So sorry to hear of so much SA. Several "minor" incidents myself, couldn't tell mum because I would have got a row for encouraging them - not true mum. Phoned the police from a call box once, a fortnight after, but hung up halfway through as I assumed no-one would believe me.

What is it with (some) men and cars? Mr TidyHouse has made some bizarre decisions over the years, all of which involved me being without any transport or taking very convoluted bus journeys. Now I have my own vehicle, and hide my keys. I'm probably slightly unhinged by now, but it stops me feeling trapped and helpless.

I'll draw a veil over the shitshow that was Friday. Yesterday was lovely, with lots of time in the garden tidying up and enjoying the sun. Weather forecast for today is not as good, so it will be more of the shed if the garden's too cold and windy. Lots of radio and podcasts.

StillUpholding · 04/04/2021 08:33

Sorry, I went a bit AWOL. We definitely had family fun day yesterday too Smile

Friday
🥚 s&s
🥚 LOL
🥚 beds made (I’m from the ‘airing first’ school of thought on my days off. Work days DH does ours so I suspect there is either no airing done or it airs all day and he quickly makes it before I get home)
🥚 Easter crafts
🥚 DD’s new clothes into her wardrobe. Need to remove outgrown/winter things but given we are forecast snow on Monday I’ll leave them a bit longer!
🥚 Family walk
🥚 More fish and chips for lunch Blush
🥚 walk up to DGM’s for DD’s Easter egg and a catch up in her garden
🥚 snacky party tea
🥚 crafts and party tea mess cleared up

yestadas
🥚 lovely lie in complete with DH bringing me french toast in bed.
🥚 kitchen reclaimed from said french toast making - benches, hob, DW, cupboard fronts, egg wiped off floor Hmm
🥚 both beds stripped and remade
🥚 one set of bedding washed and on line
🥚 bleached kitchen sink as it was looking rather tea stained.
🥚 dusted and decluttered kitchen book shelf
🥚 hoovered and mopped kitchen
🥚 DD’s arts and crafts baskets in dining room sideboard decluttered and tidied.
🥚 Pile of 6 months worth of artwork collected from under side table in living room. Decluttered and ready to be photographed for Photobooks which I am waaaaay behind on.
🥚 dining table wiped
🥚 patio doors cleaned
🥚 dining room floor done
🥚 living room tidied
🥚 living room window and tv cleaned
🥚 dusting, hoovering and mopping in hall and living room
🥚 headed off to DSis’s where we spent the full day in her garden with DM (fire pit required later on!) with BBQ food and an egg hunt. It was lovely to all be together again. We didn’t get DD to bed until 9pm which is late for her but she slept like a log.

This morning DD is delighted to find the Easter bunny has been, although there was a touch and go moment when she realised he didn’t hide little eggs in the garden this year - I didn’t think she’d remember from last year! Thankfully she accepted the explanation he must have seen how many she has from yesterday so just left her a big one. We have lamb for a Sunday roast and PIL are going to sit in our garden for a bit. I need to bleurgh upstairs at some point.

Glad you enjoyed your visitors Sing.

Your night with the pizza oven sounds lovely ED. Sorry about the repercussions!

What a lovely surprise Waders! Good progress on the redecorating front. Glad heating is sorted.

Sorry Friday was a shitshow Tidy. Glad yesterday was better and hope you have an enjoyable day today.

Hope you’re still upright Zoo.

SingToTheSky · 04/04/2021 09:14

Happy Easter fledglings! 🐣

I’m still in bed, Caglets are doing their egg hunts (funny how the teenager can wake up a whole lot earlier on Christmas and Easter 🤔😂) which DH put together last night. I was so tired and achy. Peopled out I think.

Then I didn’t actually sleep until 4ish as I heard DD1 being a total madam with DH over her phone before bed and that made me all grumpy (combined with the caffeine I’d had earlier - I usually avoid). 🤦🏽‍♀️

They have both been quite rude lately about ignoring everything and everyone in favour of screens, not entirely their fault as sometimes it’s due to anxiety but they’ve also been breaking the rules a bit lately so discussions must be had soon. Sigh. This is one of my least favourite aspects of parenting. And it’s not like we can go on our own childhoods is it as social media and smartphones weren’t a thing. 🤦🏽‍♀️

MrsT 💐

SingToTheSky · 04/04/2021 09:32

Also slightly worried about Cagletini as she’s quite wheezy today. Ended up with me last night and sounded a bit funny which I thought was her tummy rumbling but it’s not. She’s not had a cold or anything. Alright in herself though.

shipsandgiggles · 04/04/2021 10:14

Morning all, Happy Easter everyone! I thought I posted yesterday but clearly I didn’t😂. MIL came over to visit which was nice. We’ve already had our Easter eggs today, DM and nan are coming over after church and then we’re going to have a nice lunch and maybe go for a long walk. I’m so excited for restrictions to ease a bit more, I feel like we’re just doing the same thing day after day. It’s driving me insane!

Aw thank you mc!

Thank you waders! Sorry to hear about the bad sleep and crazy dreams. Glad your heating is working!

Thank you zoo😊, I’m glad you got a big sleep! I hope DS isn’t too argumentative today!

Thank you sing! I hope Cagletini is okay, could it be hayfever? I’m glad your meet up was good!

Thank you dancing and thank you for your kind words about my abuse, it’s took me years to be able to speak about it so thank you for being so kind❤️ I hope your DH remembers about the money.

I’m sorry to hear about your experiences tidy💐

up it sounds like you had a lovely time!

A neighbour a few boats over has just come to drop off Easter eggs for the DC which is very sweet of them!

EventuallyDistracted · 04/04/2021 10:32

Morning all, lovely to hear all the Easter morning stories. My two have declined the Easter Egg hunt (we don't pre-prepare so no effort wasted) but have tucked into their eggs, as have I.

I also got a solid night's sleep last night and feel much better today, took me a while to drop off but slept till 8.30.

Off out in 45 mins to drop DD somewhere, need to get dressed, washing on line, sourdough progressed to next stage and 15 mins of yoga to fit it first.

Happy Easter everyone!

I need to write a Easter egg hunt for a 4yr old and 6yr old.

We woke up and Sang to the kids a school song we sang in my primary school in the 1980s. 🐣🐥🐇🐇🐇👒👒👒👒👒🐣🐣🐣

'On Easter sunday I woke up,
To Bunnies and bonnets and,
Bunnies and bonnets.

On Easter sunday I woke up to,
Bunnies and bonnets and, Bunnies.'
🐣🐣🐣🐇🐇🐇👒👒👒🐇🐇🐇👒👒🐣🐣

They loved it and added their own made up verses and we had a giggle.

I going to take my kids to my dads garden for a Easter egg hunt..... as its abit frosty here....

halfhope · 04/04/2021 11:49

Ooh yes waders have been happily rummaging on Ancestry since yesterday - free for Easter weekend.

Roast lamb here today too. Have mint and vino ready.

merryhouse · 04/04/2021 13:20

hello

I made a booklet!
I made a phonecall to the warden!
I let myself into the church and the hall* and wiped down after myself!
I copied everything beautifully and made a single pdf of the entire booklet!
I left a pile of booklets at the back of the church!**

*decided to put the padlock back on the shutter-key box before opening the door because I would have to be quick in to get to the alarm. Unlocked door, started to open it, heard the alarm start to beep, realised I hadn't fully opened the shutter. Shock Managed not to attempt to break the door which was my first instinct ffs, and hurried back to the padlock. Got the fob to the alarm before everything exploded... Spent the next ten minutes on edge but after nobody turned up decided I'd got away with it Grin

** Realised that although I had quite clearly in large letters got 11 April on the front of the booklet, the Notice of Meeting says 25 April. Upon checking, I have 25 April in my notes. I can only assume that I just didn't change the number when using last meeting[11 October]'s booklet as the template. And then assumed the date was accurate. Blush

Still, at least it means that I have actually been Really Organised and Ready and got the booklet out three weeks beforehand...

I should have gone back into the hall and replaced the first two pages but I just wanted to go home at that point and I wasn't thinking straight. Texted the vicar later and pretended I'd just noticed my mistake. Left it up to them whether they hold the booklets back or just tell everyone the date's wrong...

merryhouse · 04/04/2021 13:27

The Easter Bunny came for lunch to our house. I had left making eggs till the last minute (see also: apcm booklet) so was up soon after 7 melting chocolate, while S1 got up after 9 and S2 around 11.

Currently trying to decide whether to start one of my eggs (Lindor, Thorntons or Galaxy Truffle?) or leave it so that I may better appreciate the final slice of Simnel cake when the boys get back from their walk. (We started it yesterday evening, which I know is a Terrible Thing To Do.)

merryhouse · 04/04/2021 13:35

I have done No Flying. Kept up with laundry (hanging outside! yay!) and feeding everyone.

Oh, I did use up (in two sets of baking) the very old bottle of kirsch, as well as the red food colouring left over from S2's summer baking. Though I bought a tub of sprinkles to put on H's birthday cake.

S2 is 18! He had 5 friends over for a barbecue on Tuesday (birthday was actually Monday but Tues was much better weather) and did it all himself (well, apart from the washing up...)

I have had my first covid jab, last Sun. Bit of a sore arm but that's all.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/04/2021 14:07

Sounds like everyone's enjoying the day

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 04/04/2021 18:44

Is there still space under the patio? 🪦

SingToTheSky · 04/04/2021 18:56

Get in line that I could put any number of people under it right now 😂 (except DH, oddly, he can stay earthside for now)

SingToTheSky · 04/04/2021 18:56

Wait, earthside is confusing if you think of the earth under the patio. I mean... living. He can stay living. 🤣

SingToTheSky · 04/04/2021 18:57

What’s he done though that? 💐

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 04/04/2021 19:02

Nothing. Thats the problem. He's morphed into a useless sack of shit Angry

Glad yours is behaving sing Star for him!

shipsandgiggles · 04/04/2021 20:29

Hiya! There’s space in my shed that and sing if it’s needed!

Glad you got a good nights sleep ED it does you a world of good!

waders your Easter egg hunts sound lovely, how nice that all the family get involved!

I love that song dancing! The emojis are brill too!

merry happy late birthday to your DS! I’m glad he was able to have friends over!. Well done on getting booklets done, even if the dates may have been wrong!

I hope you managed to get your self care done zoo!

Very little flying done today, mainly spent it in our garden, we needed up have a BBQ for lunch as weather had been lovely. My hayfever is quite bad, I’ve got an awful headache so sorry for lack of list!. I’m hoping to get a very early night tongiht

SingToTheSky · 04/04/2021 20:45

Sorry he’s being a useless twonk that

Ooh ships is that an individual shed? I read a book with the main character living on a boat and they all had a communal storage thing on the yard. I figured I’d be too mistrusting for that :o

I feel a bit more human now as we had a proper conversation with the Caglets about phone use (there’s been the odd bit of lying and rudeness/ignoring others etc lately), have agreed on changes to downtime (I have control as it’s on a family link thing). Then we had some nice time as a family playing the Witness on PlayStation. It’s nice to find stuff that DD1 will join in with - she doesn’t like most board games but anything escape room like seems to be a winner so will try and make time for that sort of thing more often whether it’s on the tv or a physical thing.

I have done some online shopping today. Definitely needed retail therapy and I knew my account was a bit healthier this month 😳 I am especially excited to try polymer clay and Lino printing with DD1.

EventuallyDistracted · 04/04/2021 21:10

Evening all,

That , sorry he's being an arse.

Merry - lovely to hear about S2's birthday, good timing WRT meeting friends, and the weather on Tues was glorious.

Sing - hope Cagletini is OK tonight.

My battery isn't going to last long, so a quick list dump:

Chocolate for breakfast
DCs requested to strip their beds and wash and dry sheets (on line Smile) - done, they just need to remake their beds now.
Helped DS with some revision
Progressed sourdough (baking in the morning)
Couch to 5k run - successful after a couple of wobbly weeks
Stretches, shower, lunch (homemade flatbreads and fillings)
Went to visit Dparents and sat in the garden chatting, lovely weather
Home again, DH cooked roast dinner
Allotment while cooking going on, planted potatoes and runner beans
Dinner
More chocolate
Crochet.
