Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

I was going to say the same as ED only shower here no bath now😟 DS 1&3 used to get croup. Benylin cough medicine for chesty cough but might not be still on sale. Mum swore by it and seemed to help mine.

DD used to like Joe Browns for more unusually wear and Nomad I think.

Mc3209 · 06/04/2021 13:19

Merry oh that sounds lovely. I will give them a go.
Sing how is little Cagletini doing? I need to sort out McTiny's clothes. I discovered a drawer with his stuff he hasn't worn yet and about to grow out of!
And definitely no pointy stick from me. I am really struggling to wake up today for some reason. Had a nap with my little one this morning, and now trying to perk myself up a bit with a coffee crutch.
Hazel that is so frustrating, what a curve ball. It will all work out in the end. Sending strength.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/04/2021 13:20

Evenin’ all. Managed to prise my lazy bum off the sofa and walk to town to get my meds, and pick up a few bits in Boots while I was there. Thanks for the broncho stop junior recommendation - I got some and it has definitely helped. Just about to fight to get the bedtime dose down her!

I also noticed kids’ clothes were on sale in there so I got a few more bits in the next size up, and just now I have sorted all the other clothes I have got in other sales and wrote what we’ve got.

But my question is how do you know what the right amount is when stocking up? I don’t want to buy too much. You’d think by kid #3 I’d know 😳🙈

Redsquirrel5 · 06/04/2021 22:46

Ta Das
✅2xLoL
✅Bed changed
✅1x LOL prepped for tomorrow.
✅Clean down all the wall cupboards. Would have finished but DH decided I needed help cleaning the grout from the now finished tiles.
He was in the way but I didn’t want to start something so will do them tomorrow. Not bad as needed to wipe them down on Sunday.
✅stripped bed
✅ found more sheets and remade bed.
✅ re rinsed and spun the load of laundry. That I was pegging out when a great gust of wind blew the pole down and the wash fell on the ground or on top of the chicken pen where the plastic ridge roof was filthy. Damn. We bleed to change our very long line as it goes across the greenhouse at the moment.
✅ started cleaning the dust bunnies off the stitch by stitch mags and the holders.
✅ stacked dishwasher
✅wiped worktops and table
✅turned washing on the radiator racks.

Rang GP had phone call this afternoon at 3:30 had app. For 5:30pm
Bloods taken, BP( high) and a lot of questions. Not going for brain scan unless changes happen or something shows up with bloods. Started with another headache and have had it then a secondary one since then so tucked up in bed 9:30pm. He told me to come back if I started being sick, couldn’t do buttons up, clumsy accidents ( have those normally)etc. Not usual GP. He hope headaches subside thinks he might know what it is. Need to wait for bloods.

Oh and it snowed here about five times once at 3 pm darkened then started snow flurries and then it lay for a while and kept snowing then the sun came out and melted it. At 5 pm it was 5 degrees the warmest it had been all day I think. Bbbbrrrr!

🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒🍒👋🍒👋👋👋🍒👋👋🍒to everyone.

SingToTheSky · 07/04/2021 00:11

Great list red hope you’re feeling ok after that appt 💐

Bedtime didn’t go so well - after being groggy all day Cagletini was of course wide awake 🙄 and didn’t sleep till late. When DH took over with her, the Caglets and I watched a bit of a film and then built her cardboard shop thingy. Slapped some paint on from tester pots, hopefully it’ll be dry and ready to play in tomorrow! It’s scruffy but it’s quite flimsy and probably won’t last more than a few weeks so we didn’t put a lot of effort into neatness 😳😂

Must sleep soon. Loads to do tomorrow, as usual... but will I actually do any of it this time?!

HazelNuttyElf · 07/04/2021 04:44

Red I hope you get some answers and that it's nothing too serious. I hope your headache goes away.
Sing I'm sure cagletini will enjoy playing in her shop does she know she has it?
waders you have lots going on at your house right now! I hope none of it will take too long and gets back to normal (or better than normal!)

We have less than 24 hours for the buyer to pull through, if not, our realtor is going to see if another buyer is interested still. I did lots today in case we were putting the house back on the market asap.

Ta Das:
🐰 6 LOLs, including bedding and towels
🐰 Bleached bathroom
🐰 Vacuumed whole house, including couch
🐰 Put everything away that shouldn't be left out
🐰 Dusted
🐰 Scrubbed sinks in bathroom and kitchen
🐰 Cleaned mirrors throughout house
🐰 Aired out the house
🐰 Took DS to soccer practice
🐰 Rotated DW
🐰 Washed handwash dishes, put them away

I just had me a hot toddy. My nose has been running all day, coughing up crap, although my throat doesn't hurt anymore (started hurting Friday evening) godly I'm reaching the end of this cold and hoping it's not allergies as they seem to linger on forever.

zoo I hope you're sleeping right now!

🍒👋 to everyone else I missed (most of you!)

HazelNuttyElf · 07/04/2021 04:47

Ugh, I really should proofread before posting 🤦‍♀️ that should say hopefully, not godly ffs

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 07/04/2021 08:21

Morning all

Thanks for the well wishes re the maths

Red that all sounds a bit scary!

Sing glad the meds helped!

Hazel think i am starting with another cold, wish i could take something for my bloody nose!

StillUpholding · 07/04/2021 08:30

Morning . Apologies for disappearing for a few days - tried to have a bit of a break from screen time. We enjoyed the rest of the bank holiday weekend. It was very laid back - too much nice food, games, a bit of time in the garden when the weather wasn’t too brutal. DH got the grass cut, furniture and toys out the shed etc. We also booked a short camping trip with some friends. That along with two rearranged short breaks we have coming up with family in July has cheered me right up and I’m looking forward to the summer. Fingers crossed! Not much flying to report here, but we kept the place vaguely in order. Oh, and DH finally sorted out his floordrobe and multiple piles of shoe boxing that were really messing with my zen in the boudoir.

Yesterday’s shift brought me back to reality with a bang and I’m pleased to be off again today Grin

Today DD wants a bike ride (hope it’s warmer than yesterday!) I have a couple of phone calls to make, a birthday gift to drop off and upstairs to hoover.

Oh Waders you aren’t having much luck house-wise. It all happens together doesn’t it. Hope the heating gets sorted ASAP.

I thought I’d been really organised with DD’s clothes Sing. I buy in the sales in advance and I’d been keeping track. I had a list of what I thought I needed (taking into account she’s in uniform 4 days a week) and stuck rigidly to it. I was very proud of myself until I looked at what she has left from last year that still fits and grandparents have all recently bought some lovely summery bits. Now she has far too much again Hmm.

Hope he stumps up the money soon Hazel so that everything goes ahead. Although I kind of feel he doesn’t deserve your lovely house now!

Hope bloods give some easy answers Red.

I can’t believe you managed to do all that in one day Ships!

Rest of personals have all gone I’m sorry, so I’ll just 👋 at Merry, That, Zoo, ED, Tidy, Hope, Foxes, Mc, Hills, Double and I have definitely forgotten some so extra 🍒 👋 for them.

EventuallyDistracted · 07/04/2021 08:31

Brrrr, it's so cold this morning! I want to go out and start painting the inside of my shed, which probably won't be too bad as it's in the sun, but I am not going to want the door and window open for ventilation at this rate. Still below zero and a very hard frost with some big snowflakes embedded in it.

DH cleared the shed out onto the lawn yesterday and swept it, I dusted it, cleaned the windows and bought the paint (pale cream). We didn't paint it when it was new because it was a beautiful natural cedar colour, but it has gone black in places inside where condensation has dripped off the windows and it needs protecting. The outside is fine but we'll do that at some point too. Also good to give it a complete declutter.

As well as that, discussions have been rumbling on about the proposed new kitchen design. I think it's fair to say that DH and I are a long way from agreement on this. We'll probably end up keeping it the same as it is now. Starting to realise there will have to be some compromises.

Enough of my waffling.

Hazel - fingers crossed that the sale holds up or that another buyer is found quickly. Hope the cold clears up soon.

Red - hope you are feeling OK, the headaches don't sound pleasant.

Waders - what a busy day, hope your foot feels better today.

Zoo - hope you managed to stay out of the snow yesterday.

Better go, back with a link in a moment.

Anyone else finding MN agonisingly slow? I tried to post a couple of frosty photos in the post above and had to delete them after 10 mins of watching the screen just sit there trying to upload.

So, Wednesday, still in the kitchen. flight plan - today's mission is to clear out your fridge.

It is also anti-procrastination day. I need to stop procrastinating, get dressed and out to the shed. Brrrr!

Ended up walking DD home from docs in a chuffing blizzard with ice cold wind trying to skin us...not on my top 5list of things to do this week.almost home sun came out and it disappeared as fast as it came.then a monster flurry at 6 means light dusting remains in grass, bin lid etc.thankful paths/road clear as off halfway X town for lil zoo OBS check trailing them all.gentle walk(she has dizzy spells) it takes 11/2 HR(70 minutes at my usual speed, could prob do it in under an hour by myself)

Doc trip was "eventful" -gain over 2stone in 15 months.shes been comfort eating and devastated/angry.we knew a gain was imminent as gone up dress sizes, but it's worse than she feared.heaviest she's ever been and a quick calculation in NHS BMI for kids she's overweight approaching very overweightSadshe has no full feelings and it's very hard try limit an angry teen who insists she "starving"...

Well, I'm back from the garden shed. Decided it was probably a good idea to spray the black bits of wood with bleach to kill spores before painting so that is done (had to go to shops for more bleach spray), windows and door left open and painting will now take place tomorrow.

Going to go and blitz upstairs now. I wish everyone would just go out, I am craving home alone time.

Hiya didn’t manage to get on yesterday, didn’t get up to too much. I took the DC to the park and then we spent most of the day in the boat and tucked into some Easter chocolate.

The window is beautiful waders!

Thank you red I do have 2 very adorable boat babies if I do say so myself!. Would love to see a photo of your DD’s cupboard if you get the chance!. Well done on getting your hall done! I hope you get some answers❤️

mc I hope DH gets mctiny into swimming lessons, DD was in them and she loved them!. Will be nice when things ease a bit to get back to swimming. Hopefully you’ll be able to watch even if you don’t go in!

Sorry about the insomnia zoo! I hope DD is okay💐

I’m so sorry to hear about the house hazel!

How exciting that! Do you have much left to sort out before baby arrives?

up it was a VERY busy day, but I rarely get time without the DC so was nice to get clean!. I hope your trips go ahead!

ED mn is very slow on my end too!

Not much to report about yesterday, we had a very lazy day. I’m running out of ideas on how to entertain the DC, we try to get out of the boat everyday but I feel like we’ve gone to the same park all the time and do the same thing. Any activities indoor and outdoor to do with a 2 year old are very welcome!

MrsTidyHouse · 07/04/2021 11:34

Got lots of sun yesterday in the garden, tidying, sweeping, planning things that'll maybe happen, and if they don't then at least we can get up the paths without tripping.

Spent a short time looking through storage tubs in front room. Decided to keep the tubs from Mum's place in there until I have the mental energy. Started to shift some other stuff by putting things where they belong, and emptied two large tubs. Will put a tub in each LO's bedroom for laundry.

Started on the laundry mountain this morning. Lots of sun again, and did a quick tidy of front garden first thing. Now concentrating on back garden. Found a letter I had been panicking over, and it's a very quick task. Also must write up diary and prevent panic over possible missed appts.

Redsquirrel5 · 07/04/2021 13:42

Sing thanks like Cagletini I didn’t go to sleep until late but then slept well except for pee stops four times because I had two mugs of tea before 10pm then DH brought me one up when I went to bed early and water for meds and during the night. Work at 7:30 looked on Mumsnet and local news went to loo 8:30am then decided to go back to bed as cold and frosty. Fell asleep until 10😳oops. So had a good, long sleep and feel better thanks.

Hazel hope something is sorted today still you might get your wish of a family if another person steps up. Worth a try I got a house like that. Accepted my offer then accepted a higher one. They didn’t follow through and they came back to me. I had raised mine the first time and due to discovering a large potential problem I resubmitted the original bid £2000 less than final bid and sat it out. I got it and it covered the builder and materials to put a potential disaster right. Chimney Breast knocked out and no RSJ in kitchen, two floors resting on several pieces of pine planks 😣 I had the ingle nook replace and put an old, oak beam across. Cheapest way and kitchen is large.🤞🏻Something good happens.

That actually I felt more reassured. I had read on here about people having possible clots so decided I should contact GP but I waited until after Easter. He is my go to GP if mine isn’t available. He is very clever and most importantly listens to you. Hopefully nothing.

Up sounds like some good plans. I often think the planning is near as much fun as the doing. Hope it goes well.

Ed we got two free kitchen designs then had a second done making changes. Sometimes other people can see A different way.

Be back.

EventuallyDistracted · 07/04/2021 14:25

Right, I have just spent about three hours sorting through all the paperwork I decided to chuck out a couple of weeks ago. I keep far too much but then worry that I might not have kept something important, I especially find it hard with things that you might want to keep for say a few months but not indefinitely (receipts in case something needs to go back). Also I am a bit rubbish at getting rid of last year's insurance docs when I get this years etc although they are more likely to be online now, my car insurance is. So I have two piles now, shred and recycle and a smaller pile of things where I need to register for paperless instead (two pensions and a credit card).
