Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Thank you for the kind words about thread leading BTW. In many ways the thread runs itself, but it's good to at least have a token nod to Flylady once a day! Apols if I didn't catch up with everyone, I am tired.

Oh and DS passed that exam we were both stressing about over Easter. Phew.

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 29/04/2021 22:59

Aah fab. Well done to DS and to you for the revision support!

I haven’t done much other than move the final laundry on and running the DW. Cagletini woke for a bit but then fell asleep on my shoulder Hmm

Feeling a little plagued by my to do list ATM but at least I’ve kept up with basics.

HazelNuttyElf · 30/04/2021 04:58

I have been busy at home, not so much flying, but packing! Almost all pictures and shelves are down throughout the house, a very full pickup load of boxes were taken to the storage unit Wednesday evening, after packing a lot up from the garage. We packed up a few more boxes this evening (Thursday), and took the trampoline down. DH was surprised at how long it took us, almost 1 1/2 hours, he thought it would only take 30 minutes, max.
Anyway, electrician was sure to come today, but didn't. The buyers still don't have their appraisal back, which was due today. We're hoping to close on or before the 6th to avoid additional costs. I guess we'll see. Monday will be the latest for the paperwork for us to close on the 6th. 🤞

I did read and got caught up, but I'm so tired I can't think straight. So I'm just going to leave 🍒👋 here for you all along with chocolate 🍫 (the virtual stuff doesn't hurt us) and wine 🍷 for those who would like it.
zoo I feel your pain re joints. Just the last couple of months I've noticed my little finger hurts on the joint and is swollen. It feels bruised, although I haven't done anything to it. I'm working on cutting carbs again so I'll see if that helps too.

Night all 😴

Stilllivinginazoo · 30/04/2021 05:40

Night hazel
Ed great news on the exam pass!D's must be relieved
Sing hope your night was uneventful and cagletini returns to her normal self today.always a worry when they're poorly and not eating bit little ones are much better than adults of listening to body cues when to eat.if she's like zoolets were will be voraciously scoffing to make up for it soon redI'm a natural worrier and would be hesitant to add an opinion.it would be good to see your poorly sister tho

Today I'm determined to make a dent/try and get on top laundry mountains and get far chunk house under control.pain or no pain....

SingToTheSky · 30/04/2021 08:27

Morning all. Cagletini was sick again in the night (and wet the bed) - she’s just waking up now and seems a bit more smiley but she was snoring horribly, think she’s still quite congested on her chest, as am I. Bleugh.

Rather grateful DH stayed downstairs with her and I got a decent 7 hours under my weighted blanket! He’s gone up to doze for a bit and then has to get a specialist blood test which means a 90min bus ride each way. At least with no nursery runs to worry about he can go earlier though.

I’ve put the bedding back on to rinse (DH has a habit of overfilling the WM although I can’t blame him at 2am really 🙄) and need to put yesterday’s drying back on I think. Then a regular LOL.

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 30/04/2021 09:18

Oh poor Cagletini, Sing, both ends at once is always horrible! Glad you were able to get a good sleep and have been able to swap with DH. Hope she is better soon. Today sounds like a day for surviving

Zoo sorry about the sugar / pain tedium. Just to add all the bad news at once, gluten can do the same thing if you are sensitive to it - you don't have to be coeliac. My joints hurt more when I'm eating too much bread and sugar (says she who's just had grainy toast and apricot jam for breakfast 🤦).

Red go! If you feel safe, go, it will do you the world of good and you can see your poorly sister.

Round the toddler group sounds like huge fun for DD. Mine were always happiest getting covered in mud (until they realised how it felt, then it all went tits up).

Hills, Merryhouse this is only a little baby family tree coming forward from 1895, but that couple had 7 living children, all of whom had at least 5 children each, who now have great-grandchildren themselves. It's the width of those later generations that's the problem.

Today is DM's birthday, so she is coming for coffee in the garden and if the sunshine holds we will go and see Dad in the churchyard. So I need to:
☕ Walk to town to buy cake
🎂 Get DS3 and DD to write cards
☕ Wrap her present (lego 🤣)
🎂 empty DW, tidy kitchen
☕ Get DS3 into maths
🎂 LOL
☕ S&S
🎂 Defrost chicken for tea
☕ Help DS3 with geography leaflet about the importance of green spaces
🎂 Subside into the Bank Hol weekend with a large glass of red.

EventuallyDistracted · 30/04/2021 09:20

Morning all,

Sorry to hear about poorly Cagletini, hopefully tonight will be better.

Hazel - good luck with getting the paperwork done for the move. Does "close" mean moving day or is it exchange of contracts?

Thanks for comments about DS, when I picked him up to go to the orthodontist I asked him about the exam as we left school and he looked all sheepish and pleased with himself, he didn't just pass he got a really decent mark. This is the boy who arrived home the day of the exam in a right old huff and pronouncing it "disastrous". We need to work on self-belief I think.

So, here we are already, the last day of April, how did that happen? IT's bloody freezing here today, I would really like a bit of warmth now.

Today's Flight Plan is here, the mission is to place something pretty in your newly clean and clear living room, flowers or a plant or similar. Friday is also the day for cleaning out your handbag and car.

SingToTheSky · 30/04/2021 09:42

Oh bless him ED! It is sad when they don’t have a lot of confidence. Maybe it was a bit of self preservation too - I tend to prefer to assume the worst as a safety/comfort thing 😳

Cagletini has eaten a couple of plain biscuits (illness = rich tea finger biscuits in our house for some reason?!) and a slice of toast. She did say in a very small voice “my tummy feels better” and is sitting up rather than lying down but is ever so whingey.

Definitely a surviving day. I didn’t wake DS up at the usual time either, he’s got a busy evening with parkour at 3 and then his first night hike with scouts. :o

EventuallyDistracted · 30/04/2021 09:46

That's how he explains it, he doesn't want to big himself up and then fail, or get over-confident and then not work hard enough. Which is sensible but needs to be a balance.

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 30/04/2021 10:01

Yes definitely. It’s a tricky one! Especially as no matter how much you prepare for the worst you’ll still be upset anyway so in a sense there’s no logic to it. IME anyway!

foxessocks · 30/04/2021 10:57

Well done to your ds ED, hopefully a good result like that will help build his confidence Smile

Sing sorry to hear little one is still not better, hope it clears up soon poor thing Sad

Today is my day off (sort of!) I have actually done better with the work hours this week and have only got less than 2 hours left to squeeze in today, I ended up working later on Tuesday and Thursday which helped (only works if dh does dinner a bit later though and on one of the days he did dinner for the dc and we got a takeaway which obviously I don't want to be too much of a habit because we're bound to want a takeaway at the weekend too 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️)

Went to the park with ds this morning which was lovely. Need to get my bum I'm gear now though as all I've done is the dishwasher and a LOL. I told ds I'd help him tidy his bedroom because I helped dd with hers yesterday. And I want to make a cake which I've been talking about making for over a week and still haven't done!!

I do not know where the time goes when they are at school,it's like I blink and it's school run time again!

Dancingtomusic · 30/04/2021 11:20

Need alittle advice please.

I have missed a email from the job I applied for. They wanted to call yesterday but i had not seen the email as I was too scared to check my email 🤦‍♀️

I have sent a email apologising....
Hopefully they will reshedule it.

They want a quick chat....arghhhhh what might they ask me?

🤦‍♀️

SingToTheSky · 30/04/2021 12:31

Aah dancing hopefully they will be understanding! No idea what they’d ask really just get more background on work history maybe? It’s a good sign they’ve got in touch though!

EventuallyDistracted · 30/04/2021 12:42

It could be anything, they might want to offer you an interview, or check a detail on your application. Fingers crossed you hear from them again today.

Mc3209 · 30/04/2021 15:39

Okie, to do list done, albeit over 2 days.

Ta das:
💥LOLx2
💥Living room dusted properly, incl taking things off shelves and wiping with antibac
💥Sofa dive done
💥Sofa throws washed
💥Hoovered, incl deep dark corners
💥Recycling out to the bin
💥Normal rubbish out to the bin
💥Small mountain of laundry folded
💥Water change in one of the aquariums

Left over fish lasagne for lunch. Will definitely make again.

Zoo, Hills, Sing and Cagletini, hope you are all feeling better soon.
Red I second Waders, absolutely go to Aberdeen if you feel safe 😊
ED congratulations to your DS!
Hazel sounds like you are 'in the zone' with packing.
Round that nature walk sounds lovely. It's raining here too, so I am entertaining myself and DS indoors. I should really designate one of the days to sit-under-a-blanket-and-watch-movies day. Mullet - how cute! My DS is a little fluffy baby, he looked a bit like a dishevelled chicken before his haircut, hence the attempt to tidy things up a bit 😂
Dancing good luck with the job call. Usually anticipation is worse than the call itself.

I'm forgetting something else I wanted to say, I know I am.

Dancingtomusic · 30/04/2021 15:42

Thank you Sing and Ed
Goodness I really did panic and I have done zero question practise.
The person does not work on fridays and its a bank holiday weekend so I probably wont hear from them until tuesday...phew......abit more time to lightly figure out what to say.
I feel like they are going to say my previous experience does not match this job..... distracting myself by watching the film...'Emma.'

Sorry I havnt caught up on the thread...
🍒👋 to everyone!

SingToTheSky · 30/04/2021 16:12

Ooh is that the new one with Miranda Hart among others? I love it.

I guess if they do say that about the experience then at least you know you tried. They may say something else though as most companies wouldn’t bother contacting someone who wasn’t suitable. Either way it will be a valuable experience if a little daunting! 💕

Well done for your list mc!

Cagletini is back to her energetic self now and eating normally, DD1 is back to school and looking forward to trying a musical theatre dance class tonight. DS should be back from parkour soon.

StillUpholding · 30/04/2021 19:17

There has been minimal flying other than my morning and evening routines here and I am waaaay behind of the thread. It was DD’s birthday earlier in the week so I had a couple of days of reduced screen time, and then back to work.
Apologies for being a rubbish fledgling! I’ll try and catch up with what everyone has been up to tonight and promise to be raring to go on the May thread. Hope everyone is well 🍒 👋

StillUpholding · 30/04/2021 19:18

Thanks for a fab April thread ED Smile

HazelNuttyElf · 30/04/2021 19:39

ED closing is when the papers are all signed and funding is done. I'm getting so stressed out with this whole process. I like to know when things are happening and I feel so out of control. I'm so ready for it all to be over and then be stressed out over the changes we need to make to the new house 🤦‍♀️ fml
It's crazy busy at work, which is unusual for the end of the month. I'm so ready for the weekend.
Thank you all for being here for me and letting me vent. Sorry for no personals, will need to head back to the mad house in a few minutes (I'm at lunch)

HazelNuttyElf · 30/04/2021 19:45

ED thank you for running the April thread, you did a fantastic job!

SingToTheSky · 30/04/2021 19:50

Not sure zoo nobody else has felt sick (DD1 did + headache but that was after her booster HPV jab). So maybe pollen related or it’s a virus we’ve all had that somehow makes you have rattly breathing without getting a cold etc first! Either way I think it’s the mucus that made her sick as she’s had that before with normal colds.

Hazel much love and calming vibes to you 💐
