Fledglings Continue Carolling - December thread 2: the one with Christmas Eve Eve and beyond!

Hello all, here’s an overflow thread as we’ve all been a right bunch of chatterboxes. I’d love to pretend that’s because we’ve all been doing even more housework, but, well... no. I think it’s probably because we’ve all found support with each other - I’m taking this opportunity to thank you all for a lovely December, it’s got me through a lot of stress and boredom and loneliness during isolation especially! 💖

Any newbies or lurkers - do join in! We are a long running thread with lots of regulars and we might seem cliquey but we honestly love having new Fledglings join us. I’m posting FlyLady links for a couple more days and then we will be back to Proper Flying Resolutions in January!

🎄❄️🎁 Wednesday 23rd December 🎁❄️🎄

Zone - 4 - boudoir (master bedroom)

Daily Focus - anti procrastination... own up, who’s still got presents to wrap? 🙋‍♀️

Today’s Mission - attack the clothes pile and get rid of stuff you don’t like

✈️ FLIGHT PLAN ✈️

🎄❄️🎁 The Keep Calm Corner Advent Calendar 🎁❄️🎄

Food memes! I’ve enjoyed all the food prep chat. Personally while I love the roast with all the trimmings, I always especially look forward to the leftover sandwich - turkey (if we have it), pigs in blankets, stuffing in a part baked roll with mayo on one side and cranberry on the other 😋 I often get that sort of thing from the shops during December, but none are as nice as a freshly made version at home!

Sorry zoo that is crap for you Sad

Tinselette · 23/12/2020 12:50

Thank you sing. Zoo hugs.

Tinselette · 23/12/2020 12:59

We're all just soldiering on aren't we? Thanks for the funny memes sing.

Ta das: bleached boudoir blinds as a bit of mould. Tidied desk in new office. Will only paint radiator between now and new year.
Sent e voucher to friends child for Christmas. Despatched local presents to neighbours (social distancing etc)

Tidied magazines. Made blood test and smear appt only to be phoned back ten minutes later to say they are doubtful due to possible lockdown in New Year.

Tinselette · 23/12/2020 13:01

They look fab woolly well done 👍🎅🎅🎄🎄❄️

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 13:19

Yum woolly!

Cleared the counter, made DS do his laundry and DD1 wash up, have wrapped some presents with her too. Just having a break now.

Can’t believe I STILL didn’t wrap early enough (finished most of the shopping weeks back so really could have) but I shall let myself off I think since it’s all been a rather stressful month Hmm here’s hoping next Christmas I can do that earlier and have more time for more fun stuff. I’m glad I did the brief tag painting with the Caglets though. Need to find the stapler so we can make the big paper star things! Getting another headache so I’m going to sit with a drink. Might read a bit but really need to study later.

And nope, still no boiler people. 😭

Tinselette · 23/12/2020 13:25

I hope they show up sing no boiler is no good. Can you ring someone to press the point?

ExpensivelyDecorated · 23/12/2020 13:27

Great baking Woolly

Sing - I do like the roast but I often don't feel like eating much after cooking it all. As for leftovers - normally we freeze the turkey and send the potatoes and veg home with my parents as we go off to the ILS for a few days on Boxing Day, that obviously won't be happening this year but none of us are huge fans of leftovers in any case, we all want different food by Boxing Day. I'm just debating whether to bother making cranberry and bread sauce as the DCs don't eat either.

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 14:10

Zoo a coupe of practicalities - if anyone (DD1?) is able to shop for you again, could you ask for a load of paper plates and plastic cups? We’ve done this sometimes when both very ill, and again now to reduce washing up while no hot water - it’s just something that has to be done sometimes. Another thing, I know you had a bad experience with Iceland but could you try and book a tesco delivery or something for ASAP? Just so you know that some staples like tuna, milk etc will be delivered, especially the tinned stuff that can be quarantined.

ED I only discovered bread sauce a few years back and now I love it! I just get a cheap one as I’m the only one eating it (and cranberry sauce actually 😂 I’m one of those “it’s not a meal without a sauce” people).

Boiler man is here!!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/12/2020 14:11

So sorry Zoo Sad

foxessocks · 23/12/2020 14:18

I'm going to throw my computer out of the window in a minute AngryAngry why does technology fail when you have so much to do!?

ExpensivelyDecorated · 23/12/2020 14:56

Sing - I'm a sauce person too and do like cranberry so long as its not too sweet. Bread sauce I was a confirmed hater of till last year - my mum used to bring it to ours but she put cloves in it and I hate the taste of them. I made one last year with just a bit of onion and garlic and it was much nicer. I don't like fancy additions to the meal really, no honey glaze on my carrots thank you and definitely no braised red cabbage or cauliflower cheese.

Zoo - I don't really have any practical advice beyond what others have suggested but am sending virtual hugs and blankets and general comfort.

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 15:08

Well the boiler is going to take longer because there was another damaged part the other guy missed. Thankfully it’s an easily replaceable part so he’s gone off to get that now.

Not so thankful that the first guy missed the fact said part was leaking small amounts of carbon monoxide. 🖕 FFS. Clearly not enough to set off the alarm but seriously?! That could have been Very Bad Indeed. 🤬

DSDs have dropped off their presents and we had a doorstep chat, DSS will be collecting ours to all of them later. Was nice but very sobering realising that’s pretty much the extent of us seeing them!

Just doing some more wrapping now. Trying to work out how to wrap the family presents (my parents usually do what your FIL does woolly and send money so we can choose, and this year it’s mostly been used for games we can play together).

Woolly loving the bakes nthey look amazing
Zoo sending strength and hugs and warm fuzzy blankets. Please reach out to someone for support, don't battle this on your own.
Sing how tedious re boiler. Looks like you are on a home stretch and soon you will have heating and hot water (honestly, no clue how you are surviving without..).
Foxes step away from the computer 😂 you cannot show technology that you are in a rush or working to an important deadline. It senses urgency and stops working. Fact. Hoping you won that battle.

ExpensivelyDecorated · 23/12/2020 15:30

Tier 4 for us on Boxing Day. You as well I think Sing. Not at all surprised.

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 15:38

It’s true mc I reckon it’s a little sensor hidden in the speaker that hears the user sighing, grumbling or swearing, which immediately triggers the evil algorithms of doom to make everything worse.

Well. The boiler guy came back saying “well that’s not good news is it” - turns out he meant the announcement that we are in the new lot of tier 4.

I am almost relieved because I thought he meant he’d not been able to get the pipe replacement! Since the tier 4 was inevitable I think a further delay to heat/water would have upset me more right now. 😳

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 15:41

X-post ED yep us too it seems. I’ve not looked at the list yet nor what it actually means for us. Grateful it’s not until Boxing Day - no difference to us as we are just us 5, but for my DSCs who will at least be able to see each other still. I know it’s not an option for many :(
