Fledglings Continue Carolling - December thread 2: the one with Christmas Eve Eve and beyond!

Hello all, here’s an overflow thread as we’ve all been a right bunch of chatterboxes. I’d love to pretend that’s because we’ve all been doing even more housework, but, well... no. I think it’s probably because we’ve all found support with each other - I’m taking this opportunity to thank you all for a lovely December, it’s got me through a lot of stress and boredom and loneliness during isolation especially! 💖

Any newbies or lurkers - do join in! We are a long running thread with lots of regulars and we might seem cliquey but we honestly love having new Fledglings join us. I’m posting FlyLady links for a couple more days and then we will be back to Proper Flying Resolutions in January!

Cheeseboard is the main exception, we'll
pick at that till it's gone. Same with puddings. The actual dinner stuff is a no though, just not interested, all destined for the freezer. Pizza for dinner tonight, DH got one of those woodburning ovens for the garden as his present.

Bowerbird5 · 26/12/2020 13:06

isawthat lovely photos they look like they had a great day. Such a cute baby.
Woolly 4hours but a lot more last night.
Dancing thank you I had a great day. Boys were in good form.
Tinselette yes, the ham was delicious. So much so that I wondered if we would have any left. They all took some home.
Cherry waves to everyone.

Bowerbird5 · 26/12/2020 14:32

I actually wrote that last night and only just found it. I must have dropped off before I posted. A bit like the cup of tea after work that I used to sometimes spill.

So lovely to hear from you. I have really enjoyed the photos so I am posting some of mine. This tree represents forty years of letting kids chose one ornament a year. I have chosen a couple too. Some were made by my children and some given to me by children at school. One of the Polish children made some with his mother. Made with pins and ribbon absolutely beautiful.

How can people not like leftovers?
A tip for those who do. Buy up sale items of Christmas paper plates for next year. I always buy a pack or two then on Boxing Day we have leftovers on paper plates...so no washing up! Even when it is just DH & I.
I am in my pjs and M&S dressing gown DH bought me about 4 years ago so cosy. I just can’t be bothered today but feel I need a shower and get dressed. Just watched a Christmas film.

So sorry those having to isolate. DS2’s lodger didn’t come because he has gone to family...in London Tier 4 and we are Tier 2. I can’t believe he has been so selfish. He is a single guy and his relatives are doctors. What! Now we won’t be able to see DS2 from when he comes back and DS2 has a work force of between 70 & 80 in hospitality. They have only been allowed to work again recently. I was really annoyed when I found out yesterday.
The day went well and the food was great only other thing was the boys were late. DH was annoyed about that and I told them quietly . Once we were sat down it was fine. The turkey had been sat out for an hour instead of 1/2 hour but was still warm due to foil and a teatowel and was delicious and moist.
I wanted to use get out and go for a walk but it iam too lazy / tired. Boys are back at work today. We had a call from DD just after they left yesterday. It kept cutting out and we couldn’t see her. It was great as I haven’t spoken to her since Nov.

Here is our tree without lights on and some of our other decorations in the sitting room.

Aah I see ED.

It is a bit grey here. Just made my leftover sandwich except it’s not really leftovers, DH didn’t make the stuffing yesterday (I know, I know, LTB! 🤬😂) so I made it today just for my part baked baguette. I then discovered the extra pigs in blankets I’d bought were out of date 😩😰 (they were precooked ones, I’d not looked properly on the Tesco website) so I just cooked the stuffing wrapped in bacon instead. It’s still a bit soft in the middle, I’ve not cooked it that way before.

(If anyone wants to share what stuffing they bought/made and whether it was nice, I’d love some inspiration for next year :o this was a Tesco finest mix with cranberry and apple)

I am going to be honest i thought tier 4 was essentially lockdown. Do not go anywhere, do not met up with anyone. You may go to work only if essential and essential food shopping. Do not enter a different tier.

Going to be honest though i have not followed the govt stuff so should probably investigate. I do think on this occasion we have had is easier with not having the promise of normal life return. so the latest changes do not feel like it is disrupting normal, because there is nothing normal. Apparently we are now tier 3. Waiting to find out if I am back in work in the new year or not.

Only just woken up. totally crashed. Not surprising tbh. Yesterday went well. We have so much left overs that i am making a bit more bread sauce, and cooking some extra brussels and we are having a full 2nd dinner tonight. We normally have enough for left overs on boxing day but the jump from 6 to 3 for dinner kinda threw the amounts off a little. Not complaining. I dont have to cook or come up with an idea for tea.

Tree stays up until either the 12th or just before school goes back. Mum grew up in a culture where the tree went up on CHristmas eve and didnt come down til feb, so likes it up as late as possible for as long as possbile, dad would put it up on the 1st and take down 12th.

But we agreed it has helped the flow of School routine to take it down for school. Ds is not a fan of the change brought by the decorations so yeah.

I should probably go find coffee and then consider doing something other than sleep so i can sleep tonight and unkink my spine.

Zoo i really hope you and lil zoo are ok

SingToTheSky · 26/12/2020 14:41

I ate no cheese yesterday 😱 we didn’t have dinner at all, just a bit of cake in the evening. I was stuffed from lunch 😳

I know we have Brie, I must order grapes in tomorrow’s delivery 🤔

ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/12/2020 14:45

Sing - we had Aldi sage and onion stuffing this year and I really liked it, DD said the safe flavour was a bit strong though.

Just been for a walk to the allotment and back. Have tidied upstairs, DH has done the kitchen, I'm about to go and deal with the leftovers and then find somewhere to stash all the sweets. I want to get back to healthier eating from tomorrow.

SingToTheSky · 26/12/2020 14:50

Oops I forgot to refresh and missed loads 😳

Hills don’t blame you for not knowing all the exact rules. It’s confusing even when I do scour the website for info, I think that is part of the reason I’ve found the later restrictions harder than the beginning when it was even stricter as I hate all the grey areas and anxiety about what’s allowed etc.

The rules I read on the website mean I can still work so that’s something. Assuming they are comfortable with it of course. I’ve not seen what is happening about after school clubs yet.

Gorgeous decorations bower!

I completely forgot the entire reason i popped on to Mn

Sing

Just remember NONE of these are necessary, and your bullet journal is a tool to help not something to beat yourself over the head with.

Bower grrrrr at housemate's attitude.

SingToTheSky · 26/12/2020 15:08

Ooh thanks hills 😍

I might just nip out for a quick walk on my own. Football is on. YAWN. 😂

OP posts:
ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/12/2020 15:31

Football being back on is one of the good things about today. My team aren't playing but I love listening to all the football chat. I have turned the fairylights back on, made a cuppa and got the radio on.

SingToTheSky · 26/12/2020 16:21

That’s good ED it always cheers DH up on Boxing Day! :) I did try to get into football when I first met DH but I gave up 😳 I don’t mind watching it sometimes but I can’t get my head round the commentary on radio 😳

Anyway I left DH happily listening to it, and went for a brisk(ish) 35min walk round the park. When the actual match is on later I’ll go for a lie down I think, and watch bujo videos :o the lack of sleep has caught up with me.

Hey all! I went AWOL againBlush still no sign of baby!. I’m in tier 4 now, not much has changed for me because I rarely leave our village anyway. We had a funny couple of weeks, there was a big drama in our family and it ended up with me going NC with most of my family. There was a lot of horrible things said about me (Being a young mum etc). It’s just my mum and Nan that support me and I still talk to and honestly I feel much happier, it’s took a big weight off my shoulders. It’s nice to know everyone in your circle love you for who you are.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings!. I hope everyone’s well, zoo I hope you’re okay my lovelyFlowers

Mc3209 · 26/12/2020 18:43

Loving all the photos of celebrations/decorations! Truly festive 😍
We went with duck as opposed to 🦃 this year. It tasted nice, but quite fatty.

I rejigged kitchen layout (got Kitchen Aid from Santa! Yay!) and it looks much better. Just need to rearrange content of the cupboards ergonomically to fit new layout, coffee stuff close to coffee machines etc.

Today was a PJ day. Olaplex in the hair, non wash off face mask on.. looking a proper scruff. Still need to do LOL today.

Porridge welcome to the thread! Hope you are having an enjoyable festive season 😊
Zoo thinking of you
ED I hope you are feeling less flat. That's the thing about time, it can drag in short term but flies in long-term. SI will be over before you know know it 💐

Right, that sofa won't get sat on by itself.. 🍒👋

Mc3209 · 26/12/2020 18:48

Sherinn cross post. You have your mum and Nan in your corner, and that's wonderful. Pay no attention to those who have nothing good to say. They are not worth it. How are you feeling?

Bowerbird5 · 26/12/2020 19:38

Sherin that’s horrible of them. Glad you have someone on your side. A baby is a wonderful little human at least going NC will take some stress off you before the birth. How dare they try to run YOUR life.

Potofporridge sorry to hear your news but you have come to the right corner. We are a friendly, considerate bunch. I have a fridge magnet that says..Cleaning the house when children are growing is like shovelling snow when it keeps snowing. I found that very true when mine were young.

MC yes duck can be fatty but is delicious too.
Hills Hope you’re feeling better now and the family are behaving.

MrsTidyHouse · 26/12/2020 20:00

Lost the house phone yesterday, got lots of lovely messages and photos today. Made an early start on the kitchen, and got yesterday's dishes done. Spent a very bracing half-hour in the garden, pruning and tidying. Came in when the rain came on. Made some chicken stock from the chicken legs that were a substitution for the turkey drumstick I ordered. Turned out quite nice, too!

Discovered evidence of a mouse - tiny toothmarks round the missing ear of a chocolate teddy which had been in a drawer in the kitchen, and a hole in a porridge box which had been left in a shopping bag on the floor. Normally all food goes immediately into the fridge or storage jars with tight lids, just forgot with all the extra tasks this time of year. The porridge and chocolate are now in the food waste bin. How a mouse got into the drawer is a surprise to me, although my auntie once told me she had a mouse that ran up and down the curtains until she trapped it.

I'll pull that corner of the kitchen apart tomorrow, if we still have a roof by then. The wind's picking up here, lots of whistles and creaks and groans. A good night to curl up under a huge duvet with a hot drink.

Love seeing all the photos. Thanks ppl.

Just flying by in the ad break of the masked singer because this made me laugh

Hi mc, I hope you enjoyed your pj day. I’m doing okay, very uncomfortable as I’m getting really big now. I definitely feel better after going NC, it’s just so much less stress!

Hiya bower, it’s great I still have mum and nan on my side, it definitely has made me feel much better.

Love the tweet sing that’s hilarious

Sorry about the mouse tidy

Mc3209 · 26/12/2020 22:47

Tidy apparently mice can squeeze through a hole the size of a pencil. We used to have that furry critter in the previous house we lived in. Ended up trapping him in one of those humane traps and taking him outside. I find them quite cute.
Sing that's a good meme 😁
Bower I like that saying!

Bowerbird5 · 26/12/2020 23:32

MC if you use a humane trap you need to take it more than a mile away before releasing it...told to me about a vet whose friend dab the mouse and let it go. It was back inside within a week and he caught the same mouse again.
TidyWhere there is one there is often friends. Hate to say it but true in our house. Loving the stable door for that reason.
You get a ⭐️for gardening. We are getting ‘ the weather’ tonight. It lashing against the window.
Here is tonight tree picture with the lights on.
