Fledglings Continue Carolling - December thread 2: the one with Christmas Eve Eve and beyond!

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 11:54

Hello all, here’s an overflow thread as we’ve all been a right bunch of chatterboxes. I’d love to pretend that’s because we’ve all been doing even more housework, but, well... no. I think it’s probably because we’ve all found support with each other - I’m taking this opportunity to thank you all for a lovely December, it’s got me through a lot of stress and boredom and loneliness during isolation especially! 💖

Any newbies or lurkers - do join in! We are a long running thread with lots of regulars and we might seem cliquey but we honestly love having new Fledglings join us. I’m posting FlyLady links for a couple more days and then we will be back to Proper Flying Resolutions in January!

Hiya all! Merry Christmas Eve!!. Our house is absolutely rabid with excitement😂. We’ve had our candy cane hunt (pics attached) and pancakes for breakfast!. We’re off to deliver everyone’s presents now, and then have a lazy day watching films before a walk later. I hope you’re all having a nice Christmas Eve, we all deserve it!. DS2 has his little elf costume on, he really looks like an elf with his pointy ears!.

tinselette it is so difficult, I’m so close to my family and we all live really close together that it just feels weird not seeing them very often. It’s understandable that you want the procedure to go ahead!

Thanks merry😂, I have no clue when it comes to family!. Brilliant and very tasty list!.

sing we’ve never kept presents back I don’t think, and all presents come here. So the kids get them all in one go. But that’s mainly because when Christmas Day is done I like to get back on track with normal life!. I love that thread!

ED that food looks amazing!

I’m very jealous of your snow mc and tinselette!

up great news about getting the vaccine!

Very impressed with the tidy fridge that, I won’t even bother to tell you how awful mine is!.

foxes well done on convincing DH not to knock down a wall at Christmas!

I hope the vaccines go well for your little Santa mc

bower sorry about the man child! He sounds very frustrating.

Sorry about tier 3 move hills

Ooh hills I shall reward myself with a sit down and watching that later thanks!

Aww thanks foxes it’s been a damn tough month hasn’t it. I wonder what January will be like Confused

Christmas Eve task list done (not including Santa related things like “fill stockings” in case DS sees) - artfully placed bees to cover names of DH and DSS 😂

saw tbh i am likely to be furloughed again and i could use the time to get on top of stuff. Because i am a big picture person i prepared for tier 4 for work so that is nothing to worry about.

The people are being helpful, not arguing and the day is going suspiciously smoohtly. Hmm And I almost feel christmassy. Almost

SingToTheSky · 24/12/2020 12:14

Right, DH has gone to do a last minute fresh food top up, with DD1 to help carry things. DS and I had a brief tidy in the living room but TBH it looks no different yet, and I am running out of steam soooo quickly these days! I’m going to have a quick stash and dash I think, then sit down and watch Motherland on the iPad.

I am very happy because the Christmas game I ordered the other day arrived much earlier than expected! I only paid for second class postage. I’m going to sneak it in with the Christmas Eve jammies (they always get their new ones on Christmas Eve, not Christmas themed though, this year it’s Kpop/Pokemon/gruffalo!) and we can try playing this evening.

Are you there zoo? Worrying about you 💖

Right, best get my arse moving again. And message DH as I think I forgot to write Lebkuchen on the list!!! Horror of horrors!

Yes, it counts as ...pampering/looking after your self.

It does move quickly sometimes because we’re a lot of chatterboxes!
Don’t worry no one gets left behind. Just slot back in where you are a. Ytterbium way it works if you don’t get it done this time you probably will next time.

Sing that’s great about the game. I am hoping DS2 present arrives. It is on its way. Youngest sis present arrived while she was out and her DD has offered to wrap it for me. Sis had taken other sis for her chemo. She has got her a big bunch of flowers from me for Christmas.
Thank you for leading the thread during this busy time. Loved the memes.
He has been a bit better behaved today woolly

Need to ice cakes, did marzipan this morning. Need to make Christmas cake or DS3. Need to make pavlova. Need to make stuffing.
Then need to tidy and clean.

Ta da
Been for fish platter. Got a pile of reduced chipolatas.
Found a dog on the road then ground the owner. So happy as didn’t recognise the dog and thought someone had dumped it. Reunited now.
Put shopping away in fridge it is very full now.
Delivered local cards.

Mc3209 · 24/12/2020 16:42

Thank you everyone for good wishes to McTiny for his jabs. All went well, although I wanted to cry louder than he did when they were doing it.
Bower he is sleepier than normal and more grizzly, his little body doing what it is supposed to do to develop immunity.

I managed to fit into my size 8 postpartum jeans! Just few weeks ago I couldn't get them past my hips.. Happy dance here!

Merry Christmas, everyone! May Santa bring you all you wish for! 😍

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 17:22

Nice to be back to your usual clothes MC. I liked stretchy maternity jeans but getting back to old friends is great. Glad McTiny had a good time with his jabs. I remember Ds's almost 12 years ago.

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 17:23

Well done on reuniting dog with owner Bower. Your house sounds busy 😁🎅

HillsBesideTheSea · 24/12/2020 18:07

Got 20 mins left to stash and dash before Christmas Dinner needs cooking (24th December celebrators) Yikes... Almost (and i mean almost) looks possible.

Anyone else looking forwards to boxing day when the crazy prep and food cooking stuffs is over and the sitting around and relaxing is actually possible?

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 18:51

Have a lovely Christmas Eve hills. Yes the ham leftovers will be amazing. I've cooked it now and it's cooling. Only the turkey to do tomorrow.

SingToTheSky · 24/12/2020 20:03

Hope everyone is having a nice Christmas Eve, we are on our second go of the tiger who came to tea TV version, Cagletini is in absolute hysterics! I wasn’t sure it would be that good but it’s lovely.

Caglets are having showers/baths so they can get into new PJs, all wrapping is totally done now. DH has made a gluten free angel cake, I still need to make biscuits though! I’ve given up on any other plans for tidying etc although I do need to clean the table so we can set up the table tennis (it’s one of those little nets that fit on a table with clamps) 😂

OP posts:
ExpensivelyDecorated · 24/12/2020 20:04

Hills - yes, normally on Boxing Day we have to pack up and head to DH's family 100 miles away by late morning, it's fine once we get there but a real drag having to pack and get the house straight etc. Obviously we won't be doing that this year, I am planning a lazy, lazy day.

Tada!

Wrapped presents, DCs have put them all out apart from stocking presents.

Made stuffing (packet mix)
Tracked Santa on NORAD website
Watched EU/Boris stuff
Delivered more cards / chatted with recipients on doorsteps
Got petrol
Delivered pressies to parents, half an hour in the garden but too cold for a longer stay
Cooked swede
Made pigs in blankets
Disposed of advent calendar debris
Thawed gravy
Sorted veg for tomorrow
Tried to fix garden fairylights (unsuccessful)
Made dough for cinnamon buns - just waiting for it to rise

Top tip (from another thread) - buy little stripey paper bags (from Amazon, other suppliers available) and use them for wrapping stocking fillers. No sellotape needed so they can be reused/recycled and takes no time at all to wrap everything.

Glad you found the dog owner Bower - they must have been worried

Spring - welcome to the thread

Sing - thank you so much for thread leading through this busy month

Zoo - sending hugs, naughty corner is available if you need it

Up - great news on the vaccine

Tinsel - love the snowy picture

Mc - I remember DS's first jabs too, aww. Now we are applying for his driving licence, where did all that time go. Well done on the jeans.

Woolly - fizz in the fridge is a very important tada!

Isaw - lovely photos!

Foxes - we are planning a new kitchen next year but hopefully no structural work needed.

That - well done on fridge tidiness

All ready for the morning!. We’ve all come up to bed now, a very early night here and I’m super happy that everything is sorted, no need to be awake at 2!. I think Its the earlier we ever have gone to bed at Christmas. I had a glass of gin and lemonade tonight but I haven’t had a drink in ages, I feel very woozy!. My babies had a brilliant day today. It was quite difficult seeing family on the doorstep but so lovely to see everyone. It was so difficult not to give everyone cuddles, especially my younger sisters.

I love the strategically placed bees sing😂, glad to hear the game came early!

Glad to hear you’re putting a positive spin on things hills, I hope the christmassy feeling has continued.

Great going with the wrapping spring, and thank you!

Great list wooly!

Thank you ed

I’m glad McTiny did okay with his jabs bless him mc, and well done on fitting into your jeans.

Well done on getting the dog back to his owner bower!

Goodnight everybody, I most likely won’t be on much tomorrow so will take this time to say a very merry Christmas to you all. I hope you have a lovely day with the people you love, even if it isn’t in person!.

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 20:24

isaw your tree looks lovely. I can see footprints! Happy Christmas!

SingToTheSky · 24/12/2020 21:40

Love the footprints! I might have to do that one year.

Caglets all bathed although didn’t put the littlest in her jammies yet which turned out to be a wise move because she wanted to join in with her big sister who was painting a gift for a friend 🤦🏽‍♀️ Not the super washable kids paint either!

We are running very behind and may have a last minute change of plan for tomorrow, all legal either way but FML would love just ONE day that doesn’t have some kind of curveball in it?!

Biscuit dough is chilling in the fridge. It’s still a nice evening, we are watching Young Sheldon and will hopefully play the new game later!

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 24/12/2020 22:38

Baking question!

I used half the biscuit dough. Can I keep the rest in the fridge, or even freeze it? It’s just basic - flour butter sugar vanilla extract and egg yolk

OP posts:
Tinselette · 24/12/2020 22:46

I think you can freeze it

foxessocks · 24/12/2020 23:04

I freeze biscuit dough whenever I have some left over, never a problem 🙂

SingToTheSky · 24/12/2020 23:24

Thank you both! I’ll do that then as I doubt I’d use the rest tomorrow. DD1 isn’t keen on that kind of biscuit anyway but the others like them! I made biscuits and didn’t mess them up! They aren’t neat (any advice on how to make the dough easier to work with? It was very sticky despite chilling it etc) but I’m really chuffed! I’m slowly getting a bit more confident yay.

PSA pear drops don’t work for stained glass biscuits they went really bitter! The normal boiled sweets are good though :o
