Fledglings Continue Carolling - December thread 2: the one with Christmas Eve Eve and beyond!

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 11:54

Hello all, here’s an overflow thread as we’ve all been a right bunch of chatterboxes. I’d love to pretend that’s because we’ve all been doing even more housework, but, well... no. I think it’s probably because we’ve all found support with each other - I’m taking this opportunity to thank you all for a lovely December, it’s got me through a lot of stress and boredom and loneliness during isolation especially! 💖

Any newbies or lurkers - do join in! We are a long running thread with lots of regulars and we might seem cliquey but we honestly love having new Fledglings join us. I’m posting FlyLady links for a couple more days and then we will be back to Proper Flying Resolutions in January!

I don't think that i am going to be around tomo so I am going to wish you a very lovely Christmas day tomo.

SingToTheSky · 24/12/2020 23:52

Merry Christmas hills I hope the day goes well 🎄

Pressies are under the tree - was very weird letting the big two Caglets bring them all down, normally they don’t see anything until the morning! But we still need to set up the Santa bit so there will still be a bit of a surprise, and of course stockings.

Just realised our bed isn’t made. Sigh.

Well not sure how, I still seem to be up while others are in bed. Ham is roasting, cake is baked, three are iced, pavlova is in the oven and when it is baked I can go to bed.

If you are up zoo Merry Christmas and I hope you are ok. Thinking about you all and hope you have a good few days. Don’t knock yourself out read, put the tv on or the radio.

Right ham is out and smells delicious and someone might have had a little slice just to check it is cooked properly. Pavlova is cooked and I have left it in with the door open. Right I am off to bed fora few hours.

Tinselette · 25/12/2020 07:29

You have to check the ham when it comes out Bower!. Happy Christmas!!!!

isawthatt · 25/12/2020 08:58

Merry Christmas all! We’ve been up since half 4. 2 very happy big kids and a very confused baby, he’s never seen so much excitement😂. We had pancakes for breakfast and DH is out with his screwdriver now putting batteries in everything!. The phones going like crazy with grandparents wanting to speak to the DC.

Thank you tinselette, Merry Christmas to you!

Thank you sing we love doing footprints here! It must be really weird having the big 2 help out. I make DH do everything because it ruins the magic for me😂

Merry Christmas hills!

I hope you managed to get some sleep bower!

Hope you all have a brilliant day everyone and a very merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas all!

I am sitting in a daze, the Caglets actually didn’t come in to us until almost 7 (I think me walking past to the bathroom woke them up, I was amazed they weren’t already up) and Cagletini kept dozing for a while. She’s now caught up with her presents and DH is making pancakes while I sit in a daze! Just going to put Cagletini’s toys in a tub to clear the floor a bit

Merry Christmas !
The house is chaos, stuff everywhere!!!

SingToTheSky · 25/12/2020 18:54

Just signing in while chilling, Caglets are on the Switch (I’m a bit annoyed with myself as downloaded something overnight that looked free, but it needs expensive equipment, so had to delete it - but have now downloaded Among Us instead :o) and DH is nipping out to deliver some hot food to the homeless shelter :)

Well, a mixed day today. Presents first, then I went for a run as the weather was beautiful. Dinner went well and we all went for a short walk afterwards. Watched Strictly and flopped a bit, it has all felt a bit flat despite everyone's best efforts, we've never done Christmas just the four of us before. Tomorrow will be the first Boxing Day in 20+ years not spent travelling to the inlaws, so again is going to feel weird. Then to cap it all DD has just been told to self isolate so I've spent the last half hour disinfecting surfaces, I had slacked off a bit recently. So Tier 4 and no one going to work or school for ten days, DD not to go out till Friday, this is going to be a long week. DS is missing going to school and DH and I are not used to having significant amounts of time off work without us going away somewhere. Might be on here a lot!

Tinselette · 25/12/2020 23:05

I'm always unearthing well-hidden christmas gifts woolly. I think I found everything this year though! Glad you had a nice day.

Zoo - thinking of you and the zoolets

SingToTheSky · 26/12/2020 00:46

We miss you zoo :(

ED it’s so crap about the self isolating 😨

Isaw love the pics 😍

Woolly and tinsel :o at forgotten pressies. That was one bit that did make me laugh in National lampoons actually!

It’s been a nice day here. Bit flat in the middle but overall the right combination of Proper Family Time and chilling doing our own thing. In that sense it was nicer than the last couple of years TBH especially as I got my own way FINALLY and we went for a Christmas Day walk for the first time in my life! It wasn’t even an amazing walk but it was a good change of scene and I hope we will keep that as an annual part of the day. It was nice FaceTiming family too.

We played the game I mentioned this evening too and it was really fun! It’s called “Santa cookie elf candy snowman” :o I’m pleased as we often don’t end up playing new games on Christmas Day as DH and I are usually too knackered.

I’m going to finish the chapter of my book I think.

A nice day here, even if very different. Lots of music. Felt rather tearful after the Queen's broadcast. Ate too much chocolate.

Getting up early now. I love a silent dark winter morning, when it's just me and I can get the kitchen straightened up before breakfast.

HazelNuttyElf · 26/12/2020 08:26

I know I'm a bit late, but Merry Christmas! I'm just settling into bed right now, just after 1am.
The lead up to Christmas was crazy, lots of goodies were made, all given out other than the one order that I need to get done this weekend (not much to do though).
Not much flying, barely keeping the house liveable if I'm honest, and 99% of the cleaning has been left to the DC, other than cleaning the kitchen constantly while making the orders.

The house is a mess, but everyone was happy with what they got for Christmas this year. I got TWO sets of pans! Hopefully DH realised he needs to communicate with his parents so they don't get me the same thing again 😆

Tomorrow the plan is to clear out the boxes and wrapping stuff from my bedroom, put all new stuff away and sort through the old stuff to make more room. I'm tired of having too much stuff and not enough space. Sorry for the number of times I mentioned the word "stuff" I'm so tired right now though so can't think too straight.

zoo I hope you're all doing alright and taking care of yourself.
I know there have been a couple of newbies I missed saying hi to, so welcome!
I have loved seeing all the photos of Christmassy activities.

Right, I am off to sleep now. The craziness should be done here now so I'm hoping to be posting on here more often again and getting back to flying properly.

Springrenew · 26/12/2020 08:29

Happy Christmas to everyone from yesterday

We did present opening
Made Christmas dinner
Had my sister and children visit for games and film
Cheese and port in evening

Then instead of sloping to bed - ta da
I did a tidy downstairs and put all wrapping into recycling
A dishwasher
A clothes wash

To do today
Another dishwasher this morning
Dry clothes
Let children play with their presents

There's more that could be done but trying to take a relaxed approach today Smile

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 26/12/2020 09:18

Good morning all Brew

Hope everyone had a brilliant day yesterday 🎄

Our day was good, no tears, dc all happy with gifts, nice dinner etc

Zoo i hope you and lilzoo are ok

ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/12/2020 10:13

Morning all, feeling even more flat today than last night. The house is somewhat untidy but that can be sorted. The thought of us all being at home for the next 10 days and nowhere to go, no one to see is pretty depressing, we are usually with DH's family for a few days from Boxing Day (today is late MIL'a birthday so its a special day). I know it's worse for many others though and we will get through it.

I have various tasks I can be getting on with (tax return, swimming club admin, photo sorting). DD will probably spend her whole self-isolation in her room watching youtube. DS just wants to get back to school, lack of routine is a bit of a killer for him and he's also not sure if he should meet his friend for exercise (cycle ride / kick a ball about) now DD is SI (we are tier 4). If I'm honest I just want to get back to work now, but might end up WFH again, which I hate doing for more than the odd day.

Sorry for the woe is me post. I will try and be more positive!

SingToTheSky · 26/12/2020 10:33

Morning all! Lovely to see you hazel glad the DCs took over the housework!

Spring well done for still getting stuff done last night! We put wrapping paper and packaging in a big bag as we went yesterday and DH and I both washed up during the day but that’s about it apart from drying our bedding.

Today DD1 is on washing up duty first due to the amount of mugs and glasses she brought down from her room last night Hmm

No plans for today, I do feel motivated to tidy up a bit more - we did get rid of a lot of boxes etc while wrapping in our room but there is still a lot of general Christmas prep detritus around and I need to figure out which of Cagletini’s presents will go where. Also got laundry to dish out as some got mixed up before Christmas and I didn’t get round to sorting it or putting ours away 😳

Hope everyone had a merry Christmas yesterday. I intended to pop on but between hyper DD, trying to control the chaos, numerous family video calls and hosting DSis and DN the day just disappeared! We had a lovely day, and DH cooked the best Christmas dinner ever. Looking forward to the leftovers. The kitchen and dining room is almost restored to normal, and all packaging is gone from the living room, though all DD’s gifts are still downstairs and it is currently covered in playdoh. We’ve had boiled eggs for breakfast.

No need to apologise ED, it’s understandable you’re feeling so flat in the circumstances Flowers. Rubbish timing for DD having to isolate.

Zoo hope you’re lurking and you and the Zoolets enjoyed yesterday.

Today will be a very lazy day for us. I’m not even sure I’ll get out of my new PJs. We have plenty leftovers for meals today, and keeping on top of the dishes will be the only flying. Will be putting DD’s gifts away tomorrow unless I LMS with the mess before then. Off to eat some chocolate Santa now 👋

ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/12/2020 10:42

I don't even like leftovers! Neither does anyone else here, the turkey will get frozen, veg turned into soup and frozen and gravy frozen. Back to normal food for us today. I think a blitz of the house is in order too.

SingToTheSky · 26/12/2020 10:48

Posts of all kinds always welcome in fledglings ED 💐 it’s totally understandable you are feeling down. I would say DS could exercise - if DD doesn’t have symptoms and she’s only SI due to contact then the rules are (as I understand them) that it’s only she who must SI, like when Cagletini’s nursery closed for a week they said it was only the nursery children not their families.

Cagletini is only just eating breakfast, not sure if anyone’s awake upstairs!

Morning up :)

MrsT I’m sorry you felt tearful. I must admit we don’t watch the queen’s speech. I might put it on iPlayer today though.

Wondering how long to leave the tree up. I know it’s Proper to leave it till the 6th but I like to be de-Christmassed by new year for a fresh start 😳

OP posts:
ExpensivelyDecorated · 26/12/2020 11:01

We always leave ours up till 12th night, it seems so bare once it's gone. I can't imagine NY without it. Yes, DS can still go out, but he's worried about it.

Right, well against the weather forecast, it's bright and sunny here, so that's nice .

TheUpholder · 26/12/2020 11:41

Oh we almost enjoy the leftovers more than we enjoy it first hand on Christmas Day Grin. I think it’s because it’s all a bit manic on the day whereas today it’ll be plop what we want on a plate and ping it in the microwave. Tea will be turkey sandwiches and leftover cheeseboard. We’ll do a turkey curry tomorrow. I’ll make some bisto gravy for today though as I’m not a fan of resurrected gravy.

I’m also wondering about the tree Sing. I always feel I should leave it until the 6th but I like it down at new year really and I’ll be working on the 6th.
