Fledglings Continue Carolling - December thread 2: the one with Christmas Eve Eve and beyond!

SingToTheSky · 23/12/2020 11:54

Hello all, here’s an overflow thread as we’ve all been a right bunch of chatterboxes. I’d love to pretend that’s because we’ve all been doing even more housework, but, well... no. I think it’s probably because we’ve all found support with each other - I’m taking this opportunity to thank you all for a lovely December, it’s got me through a lot of stress and boredom and loneliness during isolation especially! 💖

Any newbies or lurkers - do join in! We are a long running thread with lots of regulars and we might seem cliquey but we honestly love having new Fledglings join us. I’m posting FlyLady links for a couple more days and then we will be back to Proper Flying Resolutions in January!

Hi everyone, I’ve been reading along the last 2 days it missed there’s a new thread!

Welcome Spring! Hope you got the wrapping done and enjoyed the wine.

Scary about the boiler Sing Shock

Drooling at your culinary creations ED and Woolly.

I somehow missed that you’d hurt your lip Tinselette. Hope it heals soon.

Zoo I commented on the old thread but hope you’re all doing ok Flowers.

Hills I’m north east and we are still tier 3. For now.

Not many ta Das the last couple of days as I’ve been working. I was lucky enough to get my first dose of the vaccine yesterday (sore arm but otherwise fine). Have kept on top of dishes, laundry etc, and DH did some DIY bits that have been ignored for ages. New coat hooks finally up in hall 🙌🏻

Today’s plans are

  • quick general clean/tidy
  • couple of things to wrap and then a well planned route of distanced gift deliveries/pick ups.
  • DH is prepping the veg, pigs in blankets etc and picking up our grazing board for tonight. I’m going to try and create some sort of order in the fridge, and give our serving dishes a wash as I don’t think they’ve been used since last Christmas. There’s only 5 of us this year and we probably don’t need them but it’s tradition!

I want all this done by lunchtime so the afternoon is free for Christmas biscuit baking with DD, a festive walk, the doorstep bell ringing at 6 and hopefully early night for DD.

Hope you all have a calm and enjoyable Christmas Eve.

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 06:28

theupholder - fridge order at Christmas? That's a difficult one. It's the only time of the year that I need more fridge. It's balancing raw food and things like cheese initially and then raw and leftovers. Bottles of wine, veg etc. I try really hard not to lose stuff so that it goes out of date. Squeezing milk cartons in. Being worried that something will shoot out when I open the door.

Ditto the fridge post Christmas...

MC I have not yet looked outside but my right foot thermometer when poked out of the duvet suggested that it might be cold enough for snow. ☃️

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 06:31

It IS snowing. You can see the Mr Tumnus lamp in the middle of this photo.

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 06:32

Meant ditto the freezer - no coffee yet

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 06:35

We are really lucky to have a moorland area with deer just to the left of the photo hence no houses. Walkway leads up to shopping area with supermarket. Very handy when ds was small as I could walk to the shops with no cars nearby.

TheUpholder · 24/12/2020 06:48

I did say try and create some order Grin. I’m hoping we can avoid any fridge jenga this year (unlikely) but want to at least have the dinner bits accessible and some wine chilling.

TheUpholder · 24/12/2020 06:48

Jealous of the snow! We have torrential rain.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 24/12/2020 07:40

Urgh i want snow! My weather app is saying snow sunday to tueday 🤞❄⛄

Zoo hope you and lilzoo ok

Hills i am ok thanks, i am still feeling pretty burnt out but trying to push through atm

I have an obscene amount to do today including wrapping 80% of the presents 😑

Christmas music is on and i am looking at the chaos which is my kitchen

I think we have everything we need which is good, i did take the DC to the shops the other day and it wasnt too bad. Plus DP went yesterday and our Tesco delivery only had a couple of subs all of which were ok!

My fridge is pretty fucking tidy Xmas Grin

foxessocks · 24/12/2020 08:19

up amazing that you had the vaccine, that makes me feel hopeful Smile

I am with you all with the fridges, ours is completely stuffed! At least it will be cleared out a bit this evening as we will be having party food for dinner Smile

Happy Christmas Eve everyone. Dh has gone to work even though it's his day off because he's cutting a steel beam for our house as he plans to knock a wall down straight after Christmas as you do Grin I just about managed to persuade him that as it's now so close to Christmas maybe don't start now (he wanted to start yesterday) . Originally he was going to knock it down before Christmas because we thought we'd be out of the house Christmas Eve and Christmas day so wouldn't really matter about any dust or drafts. But obviously now we can't go anywhere so I'd like a few more days of tidy (hollow laugh) and warm.

Today I mainly need to make the red cabbage for tomorrow as that's basically my only responsibility for Christmas dinner, dh is cooking the rest. Only dh actually likes red cabbage so I'm going to cook it and put one portion in the fridge and the rest can be frozen. Dh will take out a portion every time we have a roast or sausages!

Mc3209 · 24/12/2020 08:29

Sing I am having so much fun playing with Blob Opera! Thank you for the link, it's soooo cool 😎
Foxes well done at averting crisis of wall knock down over Christmas!
ED wonderful food, yum 😊
Zoo I hope you are ok, lovely 😘
That impressed with your tidy fridge. hope you manage to get some rest over the holidays!

I am dressing the baby in Santa outfit and going to get him vaccinated 😁

TheUpholder · 24/12/2020 08:39

Hope mctiny’s vaccinations go well! Bet he looks so cute in his outfit.

That very jealous of your tidy fridge. We’ve had ours 5 years and it’s only just occurred to me that if I take out the (pointless and annoying) egg storage shelf then I no longer have to have the battle of fitting both a 2l milk carton and an open bottle of wine in the fridge. There will be more height so I can fit lots of wine in. Woohoo!!

Foxes I really didn’t expect the vaccine yet, thought I’d be further down the list but they are doing frontline staff with health conditions and my asthma was enough to bump me up. I also feel a lot more hopeful now. My DH also works with steel beams, although he doesn’t do the cutting so he’ll be no good when we do our extension. Glad you managed to talk yours out of starting just yet.

I’m showered and have me and DD dressed. She’s watching Disney and I’m having mince pie and lebkuchen for breakfast Grin. Xmas tunes on. Going to start in the list soon... IT’S CHRISTMAAAAS!

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 08:49

Egg container is long gone out of my fridge 🤣 MC good luck with the vaccination and how festive to have McTiny dressed up.

Bowerbird5 · 24/12/2020 08:59

Good morning.
Another thread😳you have all been so busy. Snow! I thought it was cold here. We are forecast -1 on Boxing Day.

Just a few personals because I have just read three pages and can’t remember who said what as still in bed and quite dopey.
Sing I hope your boiler gets completely fixed today. Sorry about isolating.
Zoo sorry about isolating and you being so worried instead of enjoying this time. Fingers crossed.
Ed&Woolly very impressive cooking. I haven’t iced the cakes yet as we had a surprise visitor in am to exchange presents as she was on way to north east. She came into kitchen we just couldn’t say stay outside as it was so cold. Only here for 5-10minutes but felt awkward. I disappeared to find card.
Love the photo Tinselette sound lovely.
Welcome Spring.
MC how is you MCTiny doing. So exciting a new baby for Christmas.
Foxes do not let him start we had three days of dust and still settling two days later. I was going to ice cakes but couldn’t then. Door looks lovely but I need to squeeze in time to paint the extra bits joiner put on.

Spent yesterday pm finishing the last window. I won’t do that again as it was time I could have used doing something else. At least it is done I need to throw a sheet over it to be unveiled at about 4 pm. Last nights was lovely and the family sang. So sweet.

You all have good lists so everyone has a busy day today. I have quite a list too. Need to pick fish up today I could do something else but last chance to think of last minute bits. We picked turkey up yesterday had to queue outside little butchers. I didn’t LMS with DH I showed him Bu Jo which I did list everything last year. Please do that straight after Christmas so much easier I wrote notes on too much/not enough. I just read it out to butcher. Think woman customer in shop looked impressed😁 outside DH asked if I was going to remember bacon and sausages. I nearly hit him with book but waved it at him instead. He got huffy to which I politely through gritted teeth told him “ Don’t start!” Later told him if he was going to start a row I would be walking out the door and not coming back for Christmas. He shut up he knew I meant it. Bloody manchild. It really pisses me off. I have been married for 43 nearly 44 years. I have cooked Christmas dinner for 40 years. I think I would remember to buy bacon and bloody chipolatas. I also reminded him at home that he was away for Christmas lots of years but it still happened every year! Rant over.
I hope everyone else’s behaves today. We have enough to do. I still have pavlova to make and cakes to ice. I think that is all. Might buy a steak pie for tea in butchers when we get fish. ( I know sounds strange)
Only one present to wrap. Small gift for child at church. I couldn’t find his sister’s Herdy socks.

Will try and pop back to see how everyone is doing.

Bowerbird5 · 24/12/2020 09:05

Up I hate to tell you this but we have a large Bosch fridge and it has a whole shelf for wine! DH has stuck some of his beer in ontop.it has a half ridge shelf for the bottom of bottles to sit in.
That hope no one untidiness it. Mine is fairly tidy as I did it onTuesday night ready for turkey. Need to find space for fish. DH will need to move all his bloody jars out. Pickled onions. Etc etc.

Dancingtomusic · 24/12/2020 09:06

Up more space for wine! Yay!

Tinsel snow picture is beautiful

Mc bet mctiny looks adorable!

Ed great baking picturea

Woolly i lke the christmas tree, fraggle 1 said...its a biscuit tree!
I said no its not, its made of pastry.
Nope apparently it made of biscuit. Lol.

Sing hooray you have hot water!

Foxes enjoy your tidy, clean house! Exciting your Dh is doing the extention.

Dancingtomusic · 24/12/2020 09:07

Welcome Spring !

HillsBesideTheSea · 24/12/2020 09:43

I was informed last night that i will be moving from tier 2 into tier 3 on boxing day.

My Alarm went off at 6:30am i tried to be up and doing until 7am at which point i gave up reset the alarm for 9:30 and went back to sleep. Only difference is that the world has stopped spinning and i am now 3hrs behind on my to do list. But hoping might achieve a bit more concentrated productivity.

I have read every, remember nothing and need to find that damn alarm clock as it is beeping at me again and I accidentally sent it flying across the room.

To do
find kitchen
find dining room
make last lot of biscuit
ice christmas cake
find lounge
hoover the house to an inch of life
find and wrap presents
take tea out of freezer, take tomorrows food out of freezer (no bird to defrost so we good)

Our fridge is stuffed NOTHING more will go in it. I am hoping stuff comes out of it. Like broccoli for tea tonight. I might have to make soup today and just freeze it for same reason.

Suppose i had better move, but honestly i could literally sleep ALL day.

Oh sing going all out and nearly killing oneself is an act of mercy here. means we just might have the possibility of getting through the day without a major disaster. And considering last year i walked out the house after massive arguments and ended up driving around 1500 miles before i could face going home. yeah. Just hoping that nothing gets too bad because that is not a possibility this year HmmSad

Tinselette · 24/12/2020 10:01

I hope it's more peaceful for you hills given the year that's in it. Zoo sweetheart, how are you this morning? We're thinking of you.

Hills hugs 💐 sorry it’s such a tense time of year for you. Vent at us whenever you need to 💖 reduced freedom due to the restrictions has been tough enough but Christmas certainly adds a layer of AAAAAARGH doesn’t it. 😩

After another very late night I should really get up now. I’m so glad daily exercise is still allowed as being indoors non stop has completely fucked up my sleep! I’m grateful that when I woke just after 7 I managed to grab a couple more hours but I’m at serious risk of wasting the rest of the morning!

PO3.1
🚨breakfast, meds, big glass of water while watching something nice
🚨wake Cagletini properly or she’ll never sleep tonight (check about DD1 for the same reason, I know DS is already up) - will leave DH to sleep a bit longer though
🚨write a proper Christmas Eve to do list on paper!

Sorry sing more time wasting for you there....

foxessocks · 24/12/2020 10:21

Red cabbage is in the slow cooker! I couldn't find the recipe I used last time so have made it up and hope dh thinks it is as good because he loved the last lot... knowing my luck I've forgotten the key ingredient!

He is still not back and the dc have been bickering a lot this morning, the excitement has got to ds I think!

Thank you for all the links and the KCC stuff this month sing you've kept us going and it hasn't exactly been easy for anyone right now...

Bower oh the dust, yes, when dh did the upstairs rooms it was awful, lasted for weeks it just kept resettling every time we thought we'd got it all.

Oh and it's a good job that we are getting a new kitchen (I'd say soon but it'll be a while till we get to that point!) because this morning a cupboard door fell off 😂
