February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/01/2020 17:14

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

Ah zoo I'm on Clarithromycin. I looked it up on Mumsnet and one poster said drink sheds of water. This I have done with added cream crackers and I've not had nausea. I've had vanilla burps because they are vanilla flavoured but I can cope with that. I've been having some miso soup which is probiotic, I think. The gods have taken pity on me - I usually get chronic thrush but I seem to be fine this time. Temp up over weekend but normal this morning.

Poor Cagletini - what a list of casualties on this thread. And take care of yourself ExpletiveDelighted. Hope Bower's back is better, KT's DD and that Chic is on the mend.

Onwards and upwards Fledglings

THAT90sBITCH · 02/02/2020 07:51

Morning Brew

Bloody dc bickering already. Shoot me please

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/02/2020 07:58

Lane when my DD was about 2.5 she got a D&V bug and resumed FT BF for a couple of days, it was very tiring for me but just what she needed. Hope she's better today.

Morning all . DD has only just woken me up at 8am! I'm a bit disappointed she slept late the day after her Dad was out drinking all day but she has gone straight down to jump on him to make up for it. I'll give it 5 before saving him Grin

Yesterday I managed most of my to do list except the ironing, and went to bed with a shiny sink and tidy house. Today I'll be happy with getting the ironing blitzed and some meal planning \ prep done. Lazy morning and visit to relatives first though

Well done to your DD Too. Is your poorly DD feeling better today?

Lane Hope Cagletini recovers soon poor thing, and the rest of you escape it. My DD is fully recovered apart from a cough. She insisted on the park yesterday and I hadn't really wanted her out in the cold wind but it obviously did her some good.

I can identify with the struggling to watch TV thing, both in terms of time and concentration. As I had the TV to myself I tried sex education, and enjoyed it. Our 'to watch' list is so long.

Expletive look after yourself.

Hope you enjoyed the child free time Willow

Glad gardening a success Zoo, and school sounds gorgeous.

Waves to SC Chic Bower We3 Hazel Foxes That Tinselette Shannara and anyone I've missed.

LaneBoy · 02/02/2020 09:58

Morning all. I managed I bit more dozing and then watched half of the stranger episode 1 (I have questions already so I may need to find a thread but I don’t want spoilers!) until Cagletini woke up. Very subdued but keeping milk down at least, she’s refused food. Pocoyo the current tv of choice!

I’m quite lucky to never have had thrush at all so I’ve never bothered with the probiotic stuff although I do get a dodgy tummy with some types.

How is DS feeling about viewing the school zoo? It sounds amazing!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 02/02/2020 10:37

Morning all! So sorry to hear about poorly Cagletini Lane. Cross fingers you've managed to isolate it at just her. My DH is emetophobic, so I deal with all sick in this house, and well know the sinking feeling that goes with the wail of "Muuuuuuum!".

Sorry to hear about the anxiety, Expletive and I totally understand the feeling of "I can't relax because it's a total waste of time when I must do these 653 million other things". My "homework" from CAT this month is to practice taking time for me when I'm tired / emotionally worn out, not when I've finished all the shit (because I never have).

As a result, my childfree time yesterday was a bit of godsend, although I only got 2 hours in the end as DD came back from London. It was lovely, though, I finally got to read my birthday book about 18th and 19th century coaching routes, with google maps on my phone and street view/ the NLS overlay maps on my laptop, to trace the routes in modern day. I only "travelled" 30 miles out of London to Stevenage, but it was huge fun and just for me. (Yes, bit of a nerd. Should probably get out more). Trying to persuade DH we need to do an old-fashioned, 1930s Touring Holiday and actually use the Great North Road, instead of zipping up the motorway.

Nice quiet day today, I hope - basic level flying, DS3 needs to do some homework on Greek Mythology, DS2 has work and washing to do. Steak and chips for tea, because I can't face roasting. Relaxed Sunday waves to stressy, hazel, shanara, kt, foxes, bower, zoo, chic, lisette and everyone else.

I am also going to play with my nee housekeeping toy. We accidentally acquired a Lidl knock-off Roomba yesterday. Her name is Wendy, and I am about to set her off to sweep the kitchen!

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/02/2020 10:43

Morning everyone .

I was prepared to be woken up by DD1 overnight but it was actually DD2 and the cat that woke me repeatedly Hmm. Thankfully easy quick wake ups but didn’t get the most restful sleep.

Really glad to hear Cagletini feeling a tiny bit better. Glad your DD feeling better KT.

Thanks for well wishes for DD1 and for the congratulations Grin. She isn’t too bad today, will see how she is tomorrow. She loves school so unless is properly ill will want to go in.

zoo, that school sounds lovely.

You have had a horrible time of it Lisette, hope you start to feel better soon.

Just waiting for DD2 to finished her activity. DD1 at home with DH who is painting our downstairs toilet.

Ta da:-
Basic morning routine

To do:-
Very quick Aldi shop with DD2
Lunch
DD2 homework
Prep tea
Stay out of the way of the painting and also try to keep kids out of the way. Looking forward to that one.

LaneBoy · 02/02/2020 10:45

Ooh I love Greek mythology. Has he read Percy Jackson, that got DD into it for a long time (I miss those days, before EEEEVERYTHING was about Kpop)

Still puke free here and she’s cheered up a bit.

I’m emetophobic too willow it’s horrible, I am not quite as bad as I was though. I’m lucky DH just takes over automatically.

iPad is charged so screw it I’m putting the stranger back on Netflix. I can’t leave it on half an episode!

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/02/2020 13:37

Percy Jackson very popular here too, DD got into Greek Mythology in a big way when she studied it in year 5 (ish?) and still loves the books several years later.

Phewww therapist was happy to just rearrange tomorrow’s appt.

I have bubble tea.

So despite still feeling crap, life is a little better :o

Bowerbird5 · 02/02/2020 14:12

Morning,
Deepwater Fell was good but the first episode I found a bit confusing about who was with who. Maybe me not paying attention enough. BF had been watching too and we did something we never do and went into sitting room and watched it together as we had finished meal about 10 mins before. So persevere with it. DH has been watching White House farm but I haven’t seen it yet as I was out for first two episodes.

Love Better things? Need to check name. LOL at some of that.

Been to Mass
Had lunch.
Waiting to go to choir.
Made bed. S&S bathroom sink did rest yesterday. Needed to sink again this morning.DH ? Toothpaste.

Bowerbird5 · 02/02/2020 14:20

Poor Cagletini.

GP always says take probiotic after anti biopics. I don’t have penicillin.

ChicCroissant · 02/02/2020 14:27

Afternoon! Hope all the poorly fledglings are improving, sickness bugs are so horrible to have and to deal with.

I have Yakult and bio yoghurt, I will have some in a minute. Took my last tablet this morning (nitrofurantoin for me) and although I complained that they didn't work last time, I am having some side effects so I'm taking that as a sign they are working on something). It is one that you normally take with or after food so I try and weigh it down with a bit of stodge to help the nausea!

Have done some laundry, and run the dishwasher. Have washed dancewear needed for tomorrow (future friend) and done some shopping so we have food for tomorrow (and got myself a takeaway coffee as a treat).

Freezer is over-full, to the extent that it is difficult to get the drawers in and out, so will rearrange that this afternoon. May do some ironing although it's not strictly necessary as there are work and school shirts available already ironed (this is unusual for me!).

DD revising for mock exams next week. Well, she's on a 2 hour break now so will press her back into action soon. Have fed her a sugary gingerbread for strength.

zoo that school does sound lovely - how will your DS get there normally, is there some transport? Good luck with the viewing tomorrow.

Catch you later!

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/02/2020 14:43

YES Willow, I am exactly like that as in I wouldn’t relax until all the shit was done but of course it never it is.

So far have spent an hour on DD2’s homework Angry

Shannaratiger · 02/02/2020 17:20

DH's uncle sadly died this morning to cancer. His poor Mum lost her sister in October as well. Her brother in law is also very poorly with cancer.
I haven't told the dc's yet as I don't want to add to their upset over their grandad. DH is also feeling really sick because he ran out of his anti sickness tablets.
What else is going to go wrong this year!

To Do
Fold and put away dry laundry - can't be bothered to iron Dd's shirts!
Wash up dinner stuff.

Expletive me and Ds really struggle with anxiety as well. Hate that sudden tight stomach panic feeling.
Zoo hope ds's school visit is a positive success.
Lane glad Cagletini's sickness has stopped.

Had better get on.
Hope everyone has a good unbroken nights sleep.

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/02/2020 17:26

Oh Shannara Flowers.

On a practical note can your DH get in touch with the pharmacy or GP practice tomorrow if the anti sickness tablets are on repeat? Will he be ok until then?

ChicCroissant · 02/02/2020 17:26

So sorry to hear that Shannara, it's just one thing after another for you at the moment Flowers

I am looking forward to hearing about Wendy's adventures ...

Shannaratiger · 02/02/2020 17:57

Stressy yes we did run down for an emergency prescription but they take a few days to start working again. He thinks he's starting to feel better, managed chops and chips for tea!
Problem is the anti sickness tablets are in packs of 82 and the Parkinsons meds are in bottles of 100! Hmm

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/02/2020 17:58

Oh that is irritating, can see how that would happen. BrewFlowers.

foxessocks · 02/02/2020 18:29

shannaratiger so sorry you're having such a bad time of it SadFlowers

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 02/02/2020 18:30

So sorry that your family have had another loss shanara.

My DH's medication is the same two lots but they run out at different times. He's always running out of one or the other of them but I refuse to get involved. I have to do enough of the thinking around here and he's big enough and daft about to sort his own medication.

Today's ta-da's
✔️ sorted out shoes and coats from the cupboard under the stairs
✔️ dishes
✔️ sorted out a load of stuff which had gotten wet when the boiler leaked
✔️ sorted cutlery drawer and binned about 50 calpol syringes and other medicine spoons
✔️ bagged up some stuff for charity which has been left lying around
✔️ dusted hall/stairs/Landing
✔️ cleaned grubby marks off the walls on the stairs
✔️ soaked shower head in bleach
✔️ took hoover apart to clean the brush bit which was completely matted with my hair. The joys of alopecia
✔️ hoovered hall/stairs/landing
✔️ cleaned windows in sitting room
✔️ dusted unit in sitting room and cleaned the glass on the doors
✔️ put some of DS4 next size clothes away
✔️cleaned and polished dining table and chairs
✔️ cleaned skirting boards hall/stairs/landing/sitting room
✔️ hoovered sitting room including under furniture
✔️ S&S
✔️ 2 x LOL
✔️ ironing
✔️ tried to have a nice bath and read my book but that lasted approximately 1 minute before the dc pulled curtains down in DS3 room and I had to get out and sort it 🙄
✔️ reading and speech therapy homework with DS3
✔️ made sure reading records were filled out and DS2 had swimming kit for tomorrow. Still need to find 30p for DS3 baking money for school. May have to raid a piggy bank as I never have cash 🙈
✔️ made lunches for tomorrow
✔️ made dinner which was supposed to be a roast but I lost track of time so for quickness has ended up being sausage rolls and chips. Will have to do a roast one day midweek.

Now going to tackle the dishes. I swear as soon as I do one lot they're eating again and there's more.

Didn't manage to watch all of the stranger last night. Got half way through episode 6. May watch some later but I will have to do some college work while I watch so I hope I can keep up.

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/02/2020 18:52

shannaraFlowersbless you, what a tough run you are having lately

Lane he's mainly scared having to leave me as a year has given his attachment issues full grip.hes so socially isolated apart old dears at well being cafe.im.hoping some younger company might spurrather than terrify him with the noise his enthusiasm....

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 02/02/2020 20:04

Oh shanara I'm so sorry Flowers. I hope February looks up for you and the meds can be sorted out easily.

Wendy nearly met a sticky end today, Chic - not only did she get stuck under a cupboard (DH had to lie full length on the kitchen floor to fish her out, because she recognised she was stuck and turned herself off in a sulk), then she tried to eat the dog's carrot. He. Went. Berserk. Hadn't been bothered up til then, because she's pretty quiet, but the minute she approached carrot he went bananas. The carrot had to be rescued from harm's way, and soothing fluffs applied (to the dog. Not to Wendy).

We spent this afternoon shuffling furniture - DS3 needed a School Stuff bookshelf out of the garage and DD wanted to get rid of her chest of drawers. DH has suddenly decided DS2 needs a new bed, god knows why, and we are apparently ordering one. Not sure with what money, but hey ho

THAT90sBITCH · 02/02/2020 20:34

Evening all!

So sorry to hear of more loss for you shanara

I think i need a Wendy. What can she eat? Could i let her loose after the dc eat or would soggy weetabix make her ill

LaneBoy · 02/02/2020 20:59

Oh shannara I’m so sorry :(

Willow I love the way you write! Hope the carrot isn’t too traumatised.

The rest of us seem to be ok. Still feeling rubbish but I think it’s safe to assume now that the nausea we were all feeling over the previous few days was because we’d caught whatever this is but had enough immunity not to actually throw up.

Cagletini is thoroughly back to herself. Hmm

Absolutely not been our future friends this weekend but hey all bets were off really. Uniform just going on wash now 🙄 DD was meant to do it earlier but forgot.

Obviously no nursery tomorrow anyway due to 48hr rule. The main thing I need to do is phone the psychiatrist office as Boots should have had my meds by now - but they didn’t even have a request yet 😡😡😡 if there was a problem they could have phoned me. Not cool - I am risking running out 😩

DS has chess club, I’ll take my art stuff. Also still have homework and write ups to do from both courses.
