February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/01/2020 17:14

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

Btw dd is helping me with the scrapbook, she's writing lists of why she loves grandma and grandad and putting some of her own artwork in, that will be the best bit definitely, I just need my own bits to look like I've done them and not that my 5 year old has done the lot 😂

Sorry, going away now, think I need to lie down in a dark room! 😜

TooStressyTooMessy · 05/02/2020 20:36

foxes, as someone who doesn’t have the best relationship with my parents, I think it is absolutely lovely that you are doing that for them and can think of so many lovely things to say. In the future, if one of my daughters cared enough to made me a book like that then I can’t imagine I would care if it wasn’t perfect. Especially if grandchildren have helped make it too.

Tinselette1940 · 05/02/2020 20:45

It sounds just right foxes. Anyway cake has a limited life span 😁

foxessocks · 05/02/2020 20:55

Aww thank you toostressy that's so nice of you to say Smile

Thank you tinselette , true about the cake as well!

LaneBoy · 05/02/2020 21:09

It’s funny how we are all different. I would kill to be able to make a cake nice enough to eat myself let alone give to someone!

LaneBoy · 05/02/2020 21:27

Didn’t actually mean to press post then :o

I’m a rubbish baker. Like really scarily rubbish. 😳🤣

Anyway.

Another positive though. Earlier Cagletini was getting jealous of DS getting more hugs from DH, and also that he had something she didn’t like on Netflix. DH said “DS is not well, so he is having cuddles and it’s his choice on TV.”

Cagletini slumped over all miserable, and said “I not well. Have cuddles. Me choose Ben and Holly.” :o Little madam!!!

TooStressyTooMessy · 05/02/2020 22:22

Lane Grin at Cagletini.

Bowerbird5 · 05/02/2020 22:59

Grin that is so funny Lane

Bet I could teach you to bake. Mary Berry has some youtube I think.

I made two cakes today. One because I had lots of eggs and the lads were here doing the path and two because I was looking up temperature for the coffee cake in the Everhot cookbook and found a recipe for Gingerbread cake. HHHMMM! I thought I have excess golden syrup and treacle. So I mad it.It was very easy and it looks and smells delicious. DH has just sampled it and said it is gorgeous.

PDA had two at our primary. One years ago a girl and recently I think a boy had it but not sure as not much info given to general staff but need to know basis has 1:1 doesn't come to school for full days or full week.

Foxes what a lovely idea. My aunty took me to a scrapbooking class in Australia years ago. She was really into it and made one for every child in the family, one about her mother and family and was n to the Grandchildren. There are some magazines here and loads in Aus. I did a page with my Nanna. My aunty brought the photo and had it enlarged for me.I treasure that page but haven't got around to doing more. I found it very relaxing. The lady that took the class was keen to inform me about it. She produced a format that you followed and I think that is how they get them looking so good. She didn't mind if you changed something but the main structure is there. So you might find it easier to find a page that you like and follow the structure but with your own colours and papers. The Range have some very cheap small books with papers for mounting. At one bit we had three little envelopes hanging two were sealed but the third held a message...thinking of your writing.

Path update. They dug it all up and removed rubble yesterday and today flattened it and then started laying the stone. He has cut them so some small and some larger and some oblong and some square. It looks lovely and tomorrow he will hopefully finish laying it and then Friday point it all. They enjoyed the cake. I have steak pies from a well known small chain near here for them tomorrow.
The other lad is starting tomorrow he is a joiner so will do the skirtings in the bathroom and next week the tiles with be done by lad1. Their names both begin with D. It's a bit like having Ned and Ted! Grin
We have a big list but DH has agreed so it will be great to get things done which we let slide. DH s pension is better than we hoped for and so it makes sense to use some savings to get it done before we get much older. It is weird being married to an OAP. Grin The increase in meds seems to have worked as I am sleeping better. Bit dopey in the morning but finding if I get up and get moving that is improving.

Ta Das
Bed made.
One drawer filled with my jumpers. Found bloody moths have been at one of my favourite ones. I have had those balls in drawers and in room. HMMM.
S&S
Cleaned all of the kitchen
Washed up lots of times.
Baked
More washing up.
Vacuumed.
Rested for a bit in between but didn't have many tablets.
Right I am off to bed.

Lane SC said she miht not be around much as she is a bit swamped with the job. She has loads of visitors who don't seem to help much which is a bit much isn't it.
Zoo I would count that as a plus that the school didn't make a good fit for DS. Sometimes realising what you don't want is as important as knowing what you do want. It can help you decide and sort out what is important. Great that the other school had a place and like lane said it might be good for his confidence if he becomes more confident and becomes more able because of it.

Willow We did have one, so he ordered more for that coal bunker but knew that the lad 2was coming in the next two or three weeks to build a new one which will be built in the same place Hmm Confused I would have let it run down and used more logs( which we have about a ton of) rather than order more but I am only a woman so what would I know about such things.

Bowerbird5 · 05/02/2020 23:00

oOOPS must have been the gin! Sorry. I felt I had missed out when I saw how busy it had been on here.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 06/02/2020 07:51

Bower, you're quite right - men deal with important things like fires, holidays and where we stand on the Balkan Crisis. We women only deal with stuff like what we eat, what we wear, the children and pets. Little, unimportant, day to day stuff! Wink Glad the path is going well and hope Lads1 and 2 etc are all properly grateful for your lovely cooking!

Foxes, your scrapbook sounds lovely. It doesn't need to be perfect, just heartfelt. I did something similar for DH with his gig tickets and he loves it, despite it not matching what was in my head.

Lane, hope DS is feeling better. I see Cagletini is getting the feel of how the world works!

Zoo, as Bower said, I think it's good you could both see the second school was wrong. It means you have a very clear idea of his needs. And maybe, a period of cruising academically while he deals with all the social / anxiety-based stuff would be good for him. That's basically what DD is doing this year. Her previous (grammar) school was going science and maths a year ahead, so she's spending this year "consolidating" while she works on her SPD and social relationships. That, and the fact that English has got hard, is quite enough for her.

SC, if you're reading not posting, remember to put your own oxygen mask on first!

Cherry waves to Expletive, Stressy, Rachael, KT, Chic, Shanara, Tinsel, We3 (hope you've warmed up), Hazel and That.

I've put Wendy in the corner with Ned, the thread might as well get some use out of her too! Tuesday night she disgraced herself by getting into the music room and trying to have her evil way with a guitar stand, then hiding under the bin cupboard in the kitchen when challenged in her behaviour. We have been warned she's properly frightening the dog and so needs to be kept away from him Sad. The kitchen floor is regularly pretty clean though, so by all means borrow the thread Wendy.

Ta Das
✓ dog sent for a wash and a haircut (he gets them more than I do. Must fix this)
✓ whole house hoovered in his absence. I had to empty the hoover twice Blush.
✓ S&S
✓ LOL
✓ I've broken the back of the research for my new project. Just waiting for documents to turn up now.
✓ DH went to IKEA and bought DS2's new bed and mattress, so we had
✓ cheat tea of IKEA meatballs and rösti.
✓ got brave and changed the yellow cartidge in the printer when it started shouting for it
❎ Did not finish printing as it now leaves little yellow marks all over each page if I print in colour. Arses. DH says this may mean the cartridge is duff. Even more arses.

To Dos for today
🔳 Fix printer. Do printing. I can do documents in black and white, but the actual report needs colour. Bum.
🔳 Fill in and send off EHCP forms that arrived on Tuesday.
🔳 Send another email to DS3's humanities teacher, who seems incapable of understanding that shouting the same instructions at him, ever louder, will not help him process the information. Telling him off when he can't then divine what is in her head is not helpful. On the one hand, she's only a couple of years qualified; on the other hand, she was a special needs TA and should know better.
🔳 Do maths and science homework with DS3
🔳 Re-institute daily reading (bad Mum) and yoga for DS3. Capitalise on his love of Harry Potter and the cute new yoga app we've found to do this.
🔳 Drum lesson for DS3
🔳 Take DD to Greek, if it's on
🔳 Take DS2 for a haircut, you can almost see hair at the back of his head in some places! (He has a proper, 90s, long on top short everywhere else cut).

Bowerbird5 · 06/02/2020 08:52

Morning,
I slept well. DH says thats the ticket gin and meds. Probably not a good idea often but I certainly slept well last night. It is ok I asked GP and he said as long as you don't go mad which I never do.

Lads have had there coffee.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 06/02/2020 08:54

Aaargh. All gone bendy here. DS2 has a migraine and we are trying to stave off the vomiting; DD and DS3 are still full of cold and I've signed them off online school in an effort to get everybody well. DS2 needs to write a list of all the things that are worrying him, but he can't do that until he can see in a straight line (his migraines start with an aura before the headache, and then the vomiting. Hopefully we can stop it now with painkillers, very hot sweet tea and lying down with his eyes shut).

There goes my day.

LaneBoy · 06/02/2020 08:57

Ooh tell me about this yoga app please willow!

We need to reintroduce reading time too - one of the many things we avoided due to DD struggling so much. Not sure if school will make her do it. She was fine with single words (we did the whole of the Toe By Toe book last year with no resistance) but generally even a line of a poem was met with resistance and tears. I also need to start the readalouds (we did “listening time” where they could fidget, draw, build Lego etc while we read a book - anything as long as they weren’t noisy). Think we will do kensuke’s kingdom first and then the hobbit, both of which we started last term before everything went to shit.

Bower :o at the builder names. My mum couldn’t figure out why I laughed when she told me her kitchen fitters were called Paul and Barry - I just couldn’t get the image of them carrying planks around her flat with a “to me!” “to you!” out of my head :o

DS hasn’t been sick since yesterday lunchtime and is looking much better. Need to decide if he will go to Scouts tomorrow evening as he is getting invested, but they’re happy to do the official stuff next week instead if he can’t.

Tinselette1940 · 06/02/2020 08:59

Morning. Sorry to hear that willow - hope they all feel better soon.

Glad you got a good night's sleep Bower and that building work is resuming. I'm going to have breakfast and then a nice shower. I'm perking up a good bit but not over doing things.

LaneBoy · 06/02/2020 09:05

Morning bower glad the gin helped!

Aaaargh willow that sucks, poor DS2. That humanities teacher sounds rubbish. Is this a contract you can break out of soon? It doesn’t sound worth it.

It feels very weird not to be going to playgroup today. I’ve been every single Thursday since September other than one when I accidentally booked therapy for that day. Cagletini would be ok for it but the rest of us aren’t so even managing it between us isn’t worth the resulting exhaustion.

Need to decide with DH what work DS should do today and tomorrow. Finishing the person/country of the week is more important so it doesn’t mess up next week. I feel like adding some more work next week too but no point starting the readalouds one week before half term.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 06/02/2020 09:06

Thanks Tinsel. Go slowly!

Lane, the yoga app is call Super Stretch. It's free for Android and is aimed at kids Cagletini's age (2-6), but we're starting small as DS3's balance and body awareness are so poor.

And he's ankle-deep in Harry Potter 2 right now (we have a No Film Until You've Read The Book rule), so I'm taking that as a win.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/02/2020 09:17

lane great things picking up with the illness.Grinat cagletini and her needing Ben and Holly!!

Willow Grinat Wendy's antics.i proper belly laughed at her disgracing herself with the guitar stand!!
Sorry everyone's poorly

Bower path sounds lovely

Foxes I agree with stressy it's a lovely idea and if any zoolets did it for me there would be lots tears and would cherish it regardless of how "professional" it looked.time and thought are way more valuable and sentimental old goats like me love that sort of thing

Lil zoo still got headache.pain killers no longer taking the edge off.its both temples and behind eyes, waves nausea, intermittently sees black and white dots and curiously has tingling ears.start suspect it may be migraines.cried at idea of school again today so I've agreed try get doc to look at her.45 minutes on hold,no appointments.clinical team will ring you back.and so we wait....

Cancelled D's outreach trip to their school today.i want it to be a positive experience and he's still a bag of nerves from borstal school yesterday so needs calm and positive reinforcement not more challenges I think
Dd2 reflux still out of control.first night of meds again so hopefully this time tom there's improvement.low levels food mean she's anxious and wants pace/move about but room spins...

So far today
Fed cats
Wash on
Fell asleep again
Woke up when lil zoo told me at 720 headaches worse
Wash in drier
Rang school absence line
Infinity on line to doctors
Rang outreach cancelling D's app
Fold washing and put away
Really need feed D's who has just surfaced, and encourage dd2 to eat something

THAT90sBITCH · 06/02/2020 09:37

Your all so busy!

I am too yet nothing seems to be getting done Confused

foxes well done taking on the challenge of scrapbooking! I once made books from the dc to grandparents but i cheated and did photo books online Blush still took fooking ages though!

zoo good luck getting the school sorted for ds as someone else mention the law IS on your side!

We have been doing bits around the house too bower but having to do it ourselves as we are not flush atm! Nice to see things looking nicer though! Just be even nicer if was actually not a tip Blush

I cant bake either lane, tbh cooking on the whole is not my thing. I am best at stuff you just chuck it all in a pan and leave to do its thing Grin

I feel like someone said something to me that i need to respond too but i dont know what it was! Going to have quick scroll back!

ChicCroissant · 06/02/2020 09:37

But did she get the Ben and Holly though? Grin

I am out at a craft class again this morning, DD has stomach cramps (I think they are period related) and is still revising for her exams which are on this week and next. DH doing well on his diet and losing weight. Second load of laundry in machine and I must remember to run the dishwasher before I go out.

Will have a quick shower and get ready, and gather my craft stuff to take with me. Not even sure what I am going to do today! Must get a list of projects to work on!

Catch you later on, watch out for Wendy ....

THAT90sBITCH · 06/02/2020 09:43

I cant find it Blush sorry whoever it was ....

I think i want a Wendy or cheaper relative of Wendy. Preferably under £50 if anyone sees any that look good.

willow i will look at that yoga app too! Dcs 3+4 both do yoga at school and like it (they are 6 and 3!)

Sorry to see many are unwell Flowers

I have KILLER period pains Angry

✔️LOL

Going to take the day off tomorrow to both try and sort boiler and clean the house.

Hope all those feeling ill and all ill dc are feeling better soon.

LaneBoy · 06/02/2020 11:04

Nope chic she didn’t win and get Ben and Holly, she had to wait :o problem is when she gets all indignant we laugh (the stroppy face is ridiculously cute)... and then she shouts “it’s NOT funny” a la Daddy Pig, and we all say “it is a BIT funny” a la Mummy Pig... and so it continues.

✅clean towels hung up
✅clean blanket returned to DD’s room
✅cagletini dressed
✅organicup sterilised
✅lower morning meds dose started
✅aaaaall DVD books searched for little Einsteins Hmm (it WAS her choice this time!) and a few random discs put away... really need to organise them. DVDs are very much our thing, I dread to think how many hundreds of discs there are. Streaming services remove things so we won’t be getting rid of them either! But at least some things like Friends and BBT can stay untouched for now.

Period pain sympathy/empathy that I am not enjoying being a woman today. Trying to get the energy to go and shower.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/02/2020 13:06

dd2 couldn't go to school without one on her back.hoping lil zoo doesn't end up same way...

Well verdict is.....likely a type migraine most likely stress related, since periods started couple months back she's more susceptible apparently.been told no phonerest, cold flannel to head.paracetamol/ibuprofen alternating and plenty fluids.reduce stressthink once she's in mend will look at yoga tutorials online or similar as she's flexible and breathing exercises alone bore her

Lunch in oven for mewith bagels and cream cheese.bagels everyone with whatever fillings

Need sort bins/recycling as overflowing indoors
Littertray disgusting

Crisp bright day so debating if I want go out and savage hedge for a bit as start in April our brown bins will be charged to empty😔

LaneBoy · 06/02/2020 13:16

Zoo I think DSD’s migraines started around when she started periods, now I consider it. We really get the short straw hormone wise don’t we :(
