February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/01/2020 17:14

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/02/2020 09:12

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 05/02/2020 09:33

Oh, Lane, that's beyond tedious. Hope you can get through the day, and you too, zoo.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 05/02/2020 11:33

Good luck with the school visit zoo.

Getting out of bed was such a struggle for all of us this morning because the house was so cold. Got a guy coming out to look at the boiler this afternoon and I'm hoping he's going to be able to sort it today but I know it needs a part so I guess it will depend on that.

This mornings ta-da's
✔️S&S
✔️LOL
✔️ ironing - most of this still needs putting away

So tired today as well as little one was freezing so ended up in bed with us then DS3 had a nightmare so he came in too.

Tinselette1940 · 05/02/2020 12:23

Feeling better. Sunny day here although I'm inside.

Early lunch of soup.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/02/2020 13:51

Meds collected
Nut packs/salad bowl bought to entice dd2
Visit school...oh my goodness.as an emotional, social and mental health placement I never expect quiet but a teenage girl yore past us like a whirling dervish screech top her lungs.ds was cowering.thats a no from me right there...acting head was out when we arrived.head English try big place up.she took one look DS on her return took us into a room and said this ain't the place for him he's terrifiedwithin an ESMH remit finding a placement with have to be therapeutic to build his confidence up,pref straddling ASD.she urge us to go with school we looked at despite it probably being under D's capability educationally as she thought confidence building and nurture were more essential.we couldn't get out quick enough tbh, even I was a bit unsettled in there, and I felt a slight crackle of tension in the air like things were going to kick off any minute.think D's felt it too
Need contact school we visited and see if head would take him.if not I've no idea what to put on placement form

TooStressyTooMessy · 05/02/2020 15:00

Hello all,

I feel I should just hand out Brew to everyone who needs one as lots of you seem busy or stressed atm.

Thanks guys, I don’t think she does really have anything that would be diagnosed as PDA but I have just wondered over the years and she is definitely so demand avoidant at times.

Have done a bit of reading and have started reading The Explosive Child which I am hoping will be helpful. Friend is a health visitor and am going to ask her advice when I see her next week.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 05/02/2020 15:04

Sorry school was no good zoo. 🤞 for the first school having a place.

My boiler has been fixed 🎉

Tinselette1940 · 05/02/2020 15:42

😲 zoo -doesn't sound like the right school.

Toostressy good idea to ask your friend.

We3kings glad boiler is working especially as it's February not July 😁

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/02/2020 15:51

I'd deffo ask health visitor friend stressy for advice
Well I email head of therapeutic school as I rang and he in meetings all pm,but might get chance check them between...
He email within the hour they'd take him.WHOO HOO
name placed on ECHP,posted.and now we wait and expect a fight at LEA have no money and will try for nearest cheapest option, probably in mainstream

ChicCroissant · 05/02/2020 15:55

zoo I can see the school's point about working on confidence first and then the rest later tbh. How would he get to the other school though, is transport available?

It's been a different week for us so far (I know we are only half-way through it) as DD has had a random inset day and I have worked one day (my first time at work in years!) I think it went OK, I enjoyed it.

Not much flying so far today, folded clean/dry laundry and put away (trying to keep up with this) and done a couple of small loads of laundry and hung them to dry. Did briefly consider hanging outside but realised it was a bit too chilly to dry properly!

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/02/2020 15:59

chicShould get transport, tho I'm warned as we chose it if placement agreed we may have to pay for it....

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/02/2020 15:59

Zoo well done on the form and the school stuff. The law is on your side, its in the SEN Code of Practice, its just local authorities that try and flout it.

Willow - was it you looking for an OT? Did you mean private or NHS? Therapy or report for EHCP? We had a brilliant private one and are in the SE. NHS not much use here Angry

TooStressyTooMessy · 05/02/2020 16:06

Woohoo that is a bit of good news at least zoo.

Lisette1940 · 05/02/2020 16:10

Hurrah zoo 🎇🎉🎊🎆

foxessocks · 05/02/2020 16:31

Sounds promising zoo Smile

As for.my crafting, I've done nothing else all day, apart from a quick jog to stretch my legs, didn't even stop for lunch Shock. But I'm really not happy with it...so probably going to start again. Told you I was no good at this stuff! So no photo as yet zoo, but fingers crossed I'll get there in the end. I'm attempting a scrapbook for my parents anniversary...I know that sounds easy, thought it was something me and the kids could do together. Took most of the time looking through and sorting photos into categories. I can't even cut things out properly, and my handwriting is crap! Trying to.embellish the photos with quotes, memories etc...I have really good ideas but I'm not good at getting those ideas onto paper. I'm frustrated - I don't know where the day went!

foxessocks · 05/02/2020 16:33

Anyone got any scrapbook experience?! Grin I keep looking on Amazon for a different book I need a bigger one I think. And maybe some fancy pens. Any recommendations appreciated!

LaneBoy · 05/02/2020 17:03

I agree zoo nurturing is the top priority right now. All the academic facilities in the world means fuck all if he’s too terrified to go! He’s a clever lad, he will hopefully find his enthusiasm for learning once he’s in the right environment. And TBH being “top of the class” might give him a boost of self esteem too as he can quietly shine.

TBH the scene you described is precisely why DD wouldn’t even consider special schools, even ones entirely for autistic students - she knew she wouldn’t cope with that. She’s struggling with the behaviour at her school now TBH.

ta da
✅quick shower
✅phoned Cagletini in sick to nursery
✅scribbled last week’s homework - it was to “write about an incident where your child’s behaviour was hard to manage” - errr there weren’t any really?! Sometimes he’s impulsive because ADHD.
✅made it to course thanks to kind friend
✅went to lunch with friend for a chat
✅bought magazine for DS who kept puking at home
✅ECG (no results given)
✅collected my bloods form and got a reprint of DD’s which we still haven’t got around to
✅got Cagletini to sleep (back to BFing during the day since she got sick, I’m hoping we can get back to normal soon!)
✅delegated a little housework to DD - filled sink for her and she’s now washing up ❤️
✅LOL

Gutted I’ve missed my chance to write my journal as Cagletini has woken up.

LaneBoy · 05/02/2020 17:04

No idea about scrapbooking but my favourite pens to write and draw with are staedler Triplus :) I’ve put my fun money aside for a set of 60 :o

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 05/02/2020 17:08

Ok so the guy said the boiler was fixed but it turns out it's not fixed so I'll have to get him back out tomorrow and Another chilly night for us 😩

LaneBoy · 05/02/2020 17:43

Oh no we3! 🥶

Just saw a couple of you are in the SE - we are in West Sussex :) grew up in Greater London.

Posca pens are nice too foxes if you want silver/gold/white.

DS has dozed off in front of the Simpsons. He’s not been sick since before 1pm but he’s feeling really rubbish bless him. I don’t think I’ll make it to playgroup tomorrow which is a bit sad.

Where is SC? I know she’s busy with work stuff this month but I don’t think I saw a mention of going offline altogether.

Willow I totally relate to lurching from one thing to another. I shared a metaphor in my course yesterday (we were discussing the idea of resilience and tolerance) that I feel like I’m a game of Jenga and life keeps piling the bricks on top! Being ill for the last few weeks feels like a load of bricks right at the bottom have been removed, as it’s making everything feel very precarious indeed (and that was before the puking children 🙄).

Stressy hope your HV friend has some advice. They may not know much about PDA - it’s a very misunderstood thing, not diagnosed here really (unless privately) and people seem to see it as just the same as autism, and others of course say it’s all parenting. It would be really worth reading what you can specifically for PDA strategies as it’s very specific.

LaneBoy · 05/02/2020 17:48

Overuse of the word specific there 🙄

I’m bored. And hungry. But stuck under the toddler.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/02/2020 19:29

SC has lots commitments and family stay I think lane

Foxes I did scrapbooking many moons ago at children's centre.sometimes poundshops have nice sticker embellishments and letters that are in sticker form that are cursive?or if you feeling fancy hobby craft do loads stuff.pinterest good for ideas too

Lil zoo still saying feels sick, but ate some crackers and some mints.she says had a chicken wrap at lunch too.i wonder if will feel better tom as it's usually wed and Tues if stress school related...
She's capable just not eating if means can avoid stuff so hard to say if she's truly poorly.shes not one I can tell if really ill or not...

DS scoffing veggie sausages in rolls with tomato
Dd2 pacing and gesticulating tictok dances with hands muttering to herself.
Could be another stress led evening

I feel bit stuffed up tonight, hoping not getting a cold

foxessocks · 05/02/2020 19:53

Thanks lane I think those are the pens I ordered Grin
Thanks zoo as well, I've got quite a few embellishment bits from Hobbycraft but letters are a good idea for the headings...didn't think of that!

I've ordered a bigger book now so I don't have to cut any photos up or struggle so much with the layout. I'm good with words so can write nice things about times together, choose good quotes etc even thought about writing a poem. But what I can't do is put it all together and make it look pretty , so frustrating!!

Anyway that's life we can't all be good at the same things! I should have stuck with making them a cake or something 😂

foxessocks · 05/02/2020 19:55

Sorry that was all about me - meant to say hope all the poorly people get better very soon! So much of it about at the moment. I'm just starting to feel better myself but the cough is still lingering.

Ds is bunged up and snoring, he is still in dd bedroom so she has gone into our bedroom because of the noise 😂
