Fledglings flying into the Roaring Twenties! January 2020 Flylady thread, all welcome.

Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

willow thinking of youFlowers
tinselette I’m glad you’re feeling better❤️
rachael that’s good that he agreed to take AD’s. I was on them for about 6 months last year and they made everything much more manageable, I hope they help him.

DD still isn’t feeling herself, she hadn’t got out of her pyjamas all day. She hasn’t been sick, just a high temperature but complaining of belly ache. I’ve gave her some calpol to bring her temperature down.

I’ve done barely any housework today, I still have the washing to do, and now I will have today’s to do too. So I shall get cracking when the kids go to bed

Strategicchoring · 16/01/2020 19:07

Oh no Frankenscence hope your dd is ok and you are not in for a sleepless night

Glad you are feeling better Tinselette

Hope the ads work for your dh Rachael and you both benefit

Ooh yummy recipes Zoo

Sorry you are still feeling a bit grim Lane but bravo to your ds for looking after you

Well done re: assignment We3kings

Bit of a crap day here too Lane if its any consolation! Full of technical problems, logistical problems, communication problems. Got very little done despite my determined start. Fed up now.

I am going to keep going for a little bit but then give up. Dh has just driven dd to school theatre outing so at least we will be able to have a quiet (if a bit rushed) dinner together.

Mahoosive waves to everyone else!

Strategicchoring · 16/01/2020 19:08

Oop sorry that should have read Frankinsence

LaneBoy · 16/01/2020 20:29

Quiet here this evening!
ta da
✅sat on sofa mostly
✅helped DD with maths
✅oven pizza for dinner (me and toddler shared while others were out)

Feeling worse and worse TBH (not stood up since pizza) but am cheered up by the fact DS got his exam result from last month (primary tap) distinction yay! Bless him he’s very proud :)

rachael, good news that DH has agreed to start ADs. I had to ask my DH to restart his about 18 months ago and it was a hard conversation, but we've all benefitted from him being on an even keel and responding predictably to events.

Frank, hope your DD is better. A couple of mine always got tummy ache with a high temp, because the glands in their tummy came up, rather than because it was anything digestive.

Sc, sorry you had a frustrating day, hope you were able to enjoy dinner!

Ta Das for today

  • dog walked
  • Dw rotated
  • cutlery drawer wiped out. Got carried away and also wiped front and side of unit and cleaned base and skirting board!
  • long dog lead washed (I swear it was 150% mud!)
  • long phone call to old friend whose life has got a bit complicated on her
  • took DD to orthodontist
  • had lunch with DM
  • went through long multiplication and division with DS3 again
  • got Mrs Three Doors Down to witness DS1's rent guarantee form for next year.
  • took DD to Greek
  • went to Tesco for decaf Earl Grey tea bags, sliced chicken and to post said rent form
  • realised had missed Tesco post by 20 minutes, raced home to catch post at box over the road from our house
  • rebaselined financial plan on new basis of DS1 needing supporting 12 months a year not 10 and rent paying over the summer. Headline result: we're buggered.
  • collected DD from Greek
  • cook, serve and clear bacon and eggs etc
  • wash up frying pans and clean bacon grease off hob
  • get DS3 through shower, into pyjamas and bed

It's a bloody good thing I don't have a real job, isn't it? I'm going to bed now too!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 16/01/2020 20:40

Lane, well done to your DS! I'm sorry the PoTS is still getting to you - is there anything to be done during an attack, or do you just have to ride it out?

frankincenseandmur · 16/01/2020 21:19

Well done to your ds lane! I’m sorry you still aren’t feeling well!

Thanks for the well wishes for DD. She’s in with me, she was sick just before bed bless her. I don’t think she’ll be getting much sleep tonight so we’re watching Peppa Pig on Netflix.

Bowerbird5 · 16/01/2020 23:45

Hi haven't read the last page or two but popping in to say hi.
Yesterday was full of appointments some which went on longer than expected. GP answered lots of questions and took bloods and BP (OK)
Opticians lots for questions Going to trial contact lens. Bet I wish I had had them before. Have to wait for a few days. New glasses either tomorrow or next Friday. Vacuum ready to pick up.

Today made plans but DH wanted to go out earlier because it was forecast rain later. So we did. Went to a couple of charity shop but mislaid bag to take.Bought two books today...craft and three yesterday two were Peter May and today a parcel had arrived while we were out. DS1 had been and left Peter May book of the Hebrides with fantastic photographs and some history and geographical info which will be interesting.I love going to Islands on holiday been to some of the Scottish ones, Scilly Isles and Jersey, Tenerife, Australia and Singapore. Hope to go to Arran and Mull this year.
Been out last night and tonight to flower club and gardening club. Went to friend's for tea both nights. I bought last nights and she made tonights. Good arrangement. We go once a month and have some lovely meals out and gardens to visit on the itinerary.
Came back to find DH hadn't bothered to wash up and had left it in some water which is ok except it was sausages so it was all greasy scum. Yuk and he has done nothing today bar the fire and feeding cat and hen.Grr. I stuck them in the dishwasher because I couldn't stand the feel on them while I cleaned all the bowl and shined my sink.Just waiting for it to finish as I wont go to bed when it is on. It was lazy but I am tired. He could have done that.
TA Das
bed made
vacuumed downstairs.
Cut cats claws, what a fuss. Did ear. She doesn't like me now.
Meal planned in my head according to what was in cheap bit in Wink SC that supermarket. Piece of lamb rolled for £5.80 from £8.66 and a bit of pork £4.94 from £7.38. Will cook tomorrow and will be enough to do us for Saturday and Sunday. Must call in again on a Thursday. They had masses of stuff.
So
Friday -Lunch Crab DH, Egg sandwiches: Tea-Fish Pie tomorrow. peas.
Saturday-Soup. Tea_Lamb or pork cold or reheated with potatoes and carrots,
broccoli.
Sunday Lunch- sandwiches with lamb or pork. Tea- New potatoes, veg and slice of meat in gravy.

We spent longer in this town than intended but we did get quite a lot done just some of those niggly things. DH got some new walking trousers in the sale as he was frozen last time out. These are lined winter ones from a massive shop for all outdoor pursuits. I found thing for camping I didn't even know existed and we might have found a small heater for the summer house. I'm missing not being in it but it is too cold up here.Hasn't been in double numbers for ages.

Willow you look busy, a long list
Lane hope you feel better in the morning. Distinction- Fantastic!

Off to bed and find IPAD to see what yummy things zoo has been making. Then start my new book which is why I went to THAT supermarket as the series are half price in there. None in charity shop. I did get an autobiography of Clarrisa Dickinson Wright. I met her twice in the Lakes. I would have loved to have talked to her for a full afternoon. She was so interesting and such a warm friendly person.

Bowerbird5 · 16/01/2020 23:46

OOPS! Hw did that happen.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/01/2020 05:35

lane aw,distinction.you must be so proud ❤️
Frank hope you and D's got some sleep
Willow that list made me tired reading it!!

Lil zoo came in tired and miserable with her throat, and chest hurting.didbt want go ballet and has slept on sofa with me.my back is not impressed and I need get up shortly and wake "d"p for work..

HungryHazelEyes · 17/01/2020 07:32

zoo thank you so much for your help with recipes and advice. I habe passed that on to DD and she has already added some dried fruits and things to the shopping list. I did not know about the dried fruits/ tomatoes etc, so thats good to know. She really doesn't like eggs but is looking at ideas on Pinterest.

Rachael thank you for your advice as well. We don't have an exclusive vegetarian restaurant/ cafe by us at all, but most, if not all, places do have vegetarian options, so may have to check some out.

I did a very full day's work today, as I worked both jobs. I did actually sweep the kitchen floor tonight when I got home as it seemed to need it. DCs chores for tomorrow include vacuuming and mopping, so I just did a quick once over. DW is ready to get turned on once DH is done in the shower. It's now time for bed as it's 12:30am here and I get up at 6:30am. I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday and it's a 3 day weekend for me (off Monday).

Hello to everyone else, I'm too tired to go through everyone's names. I must do better, I'm sorry. I hope you all have a fantastic day, as I'm sure you're all getting going for the day now.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 17/01/2020 07:34

zoo, does that mean he is staying with you? Hope that's a proper decision on your part, not a capitulation cos it's easy. Bower what a lovely useful day that sounds like, with friends and music and gardens too.

Friday is a strange day in this house. It's almost weekend because DS3 has no formal lessons, but not quite. I'm out this morning to see friends, leaving him doing homework under DH's watchful eye.

To dos today

  • dog walk
  • rotate DW
  • LOL
  • set up homework (art and science, I think)
  • take DS3 for new boots - not restricted to black because he's not in school! Hooray! Will try Clarks first (see below).
  • order DS3 new trainers (only one type of Asics fit his feet, so that's what he will have, one size up)
  • enquire of DD how well her boots fit (trying to avoid 50 mile round trip to specialist hypermobility shoe shop. They're great and really know their stuff, but it takes at least 2.5 hours and usually costs me a Costa as well, to get over the shock of the cost of the shoes!).
  • ring podiatrist about DS2's orthotics suddenly causing blisters
  • more financial planning (sure we're not actually buggered, just need to move things around and cut some of the "nice to have"s ☹️)
  • finally email client with research from earlier in the week.
  • fakeaway burgers for tea.

Right. Best get on, to make space in the day for coffee and cake this morning. Hope all ill people and tinies are on the mend Flowers and everyone's getting to the end of their working week in one piece!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 17/01/2020 07:49

☑️ order DS3 new trainers.

I am on it this morning!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 17/01/2020 09:14

Willow you've reminded me I need to take youngest to be measured for shoes now he's walking properly.

I'm not going in to college today as one of the teachers was ill yesterday so I don't expect her in today and the other lesson is just a research project which I can easily do from home. Staying at home saves me paying for childcare.

Ta-da's
Cleaned bathroom. More than a S&S but not quite a proper clean either.
LOL done and now drying.
2 loads of ironing.
Everyone dressed, fed and school run done.

Had a dispute with eldest as he's got swimming with school today but he's had earache for a few days so I told him it's probably a good idea to give it a miss until we see GP later and find out what it is. He took his swimming kit and said he'd keep his swimming cap over his ear 🙄

Came home and little one asked for milk. He's now fallen asleep on top of me and won't let go of the boob so I guess I'm stuck here watching the soaps for a bit.

rachael12345 · 17/01/2020 09:49

Willow you do have a proper job!

rachael12345 · 17/01/2020 09:55

Coffee and bacon butties all round - it is friday after all x it'll be my third coffee 😉

Actually I'm going to make fried egg and cheese sarnies in my toastie machine for lunch brunch - delish! Ypu can share if ypu like.

LO had jabs yesterday - 4! And he really suffered after, don't remember dd being affected by any. Poor little mite . She decided howeveralso not to sleep barely at all coinciding with dh deciding to move back to marital bed now that assignment submitted - ha bad move buster! Welcome to club super exhaustion. Mind you with his MH probs he can't handle it and them is much less effective all round.

TooStressyTooMessy · 17/01/2020 09:58

Morning everyone. Hope all unwell people start feeling a little bit better soon.

Huge well done to your DS Lane Star. Distinction is really impressive.

Bower, I often lose posts too. I have started (when I remember) copying posts every so often if I have written a lot. At least that means if I lose them I can just press paste. Often forget though!

To do:-
I am off today and want to get quite a bit done as working Monday and need to prep for that.
Just done food shop so need to put that away
Write down meal plan while it is still in my head
Home bleugh
Make tea (spaghetti bolognese) as we will be busy after school
Prep paperwork etc for Monday
Ideally declutter but not sure if that will happen
Laundry etc

LaneBoy · 17/01/2020 09:58

That was my evening last night we3 endless feeding it seemed like! I ended up sleeping on the floor as she kept waking up. Gutted she only did two days at nursery in her first week but maybe it’s a gentler intro that way.

That’s great you don’t have to pay for childcare in advance we3 that’s very family friendly! ❤️

Today is going to be lazy as possible. Wanted to swim but I’ll hopefully just sit in the steam room for a bit instead, it should help as long as I’m careful not to be in there too long.

DS is still going to do his work (already done maths) but more relaxed today and he’s now playing chess with DH.

Thanks for the exam congrats btw! I think I’m prouder than he is Hmm :o he’s like meh yeah ok. Whereas I’m seeing the achievement of focusing despite his ADHD and autism and the fact he hasn’t done anything like that before! (He’s done gradings for taekwondo but that is in a big group.) It is such a good activity for him though on a sensory level. I wish he could still do trampolining but the teacher quit. He is hopefully starting parkour soon though.

Ta da!
Wardrobe from dd room gone this morning!
Electric light in kitchen cupboard, men came and fixed it!
Booked oestopath for me for Monday - lord I'm aching today.
Hooray for getting stuff done 😊😊😊

Now to multi task accompaning v tired fragile off school dd on sofa- with compiling multiple to do lists onto a nice neat spreadsheet 😊
I do love a spreadsheet and find orderly calm within their bounds. .. hmm bit of a geek

THAT90sBITCH · 17/01/2020 10:33

The man child has defaulted into massive twat mode. I called him out on some inconsiderate behaviour and now he is barely speaking to me and being an arsehole, last night after work he went for a pint, to see mil and then had a nice bath and bed. Not a care in the world for anyone else. Dc5 was super clingy yesterday so i got next to nothing done. Yes the kitchen was untidy but him banging about ranting about 'shit everywhere' and 'everything goes fucking missing' wasnt really needed. Sure he thinks he goes to work all day and i sit on my arse. Angry

Ta da

School run and shit
Managed to grab a quick bath!
Spoke to numpty at british gas
Phoned dentist
Phoned swimming baths
Wash on
Dryer emptied

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/01/2020 10:49

that you forgot to add drinking tea whilst sit on your arse doing nothingAngry

Willow twas an overnight stay,I am in no way at a point that's likely to happen.he had a two day blip, which I can accept it was a shock first day in new job to find letter telling him was losing his "home",and he seems to have returned to the unnervingly helpful/useful mode....he picked up dd2 gavisconand sat cuddling lil zoo and out up with call the midwifeas well as play an hour with D's on PS3 and watch bit TV with dd2 she likes!

Tada
Wash on
Cats fed
Swept kitchen floor
Breakfasts
Made pack up for DP and snacks for dd2 to graze on
Wash up
Wipe surfaces
Relented and Viakal kitchen taps as nothing was shifting limescale.5mins,scrub old toothbrush.pizzaz!!
So impressed did bathroom sink ones too
Scrub kitchen sink and drainer
Bins and littertray

Just had half hour chat old school run mum I see once in a whilelovely to see the photos!

Right back nose to grindstone,I want complete my chore list by lunch and do crafts /play with D's this afternoon!!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 17/01/2020 10:50

That if he was so bothered about the 'shit everywhere' he should have sorted it himself.

Managed to sneak out from under DS.

Put the beef in for dinner.
Done the dishes.
Tidied upstairs

He's awake again now and I'm trying to do some college work while he sits on my knee. Can't see me getting much done 🙄

TooStressyTooMessy · 17/01/2020 10:58

That Flowers.

Lane, I’m not sure what the Taekwondo gradings that your DC do are like. Maybe they are quite relaxed. However, I used to do martial arts and the gradings were really fucking scary, even though it was a big group and even though at times it seemed ‘relaxed’. So I am always impressed with DC doing them as well Smile. Great that he has done that and the dance.

cbeebiessavedmylife · 17/01/2020 12:25

It’s Frank (just makes changed)

DD isn’t well at all, so I’ve just got the boys from nursery and now we’re going to the walk in centre. I will catch up with all later.
