Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

Managed to change nn at last. Feeling positive and looking forward to lunch and an afternoon of Fr Brown on telly. (formerly Tinselette1940)

So far working out who's who!
Welcome spaceship.

Just popped in while waiting for dinner.DH has cooked most of it.Shock perhaps that is his resolution although last night he told me it was...MORE holidays! Not sure if he means with me.

I didn't know about the wash thing. So I left the calendar up and put a towel wash on Sad not a good start. no resolutions yet. I did say while watching Julia Bradbury that getting fit and going up Scarfell Pike might be a good NYR. I did emphasis the might.

I'm not planning to do much today but have emptied one large draw yesterday that I will sort tomorrow.

MercuryRising · 01/01/2020 14:39

Happy New Year!! I'm enthusiastically signing in after a lovely New Years Day nap with dc4 who is still snuggled next to me. We were at a friend's yesterday so are all pretty tired today. Hoping for a positive and chaos free 2020 for all of us!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 01/01/2020 14:58

Thanks, you lot are lovely Smile

begins reading furiously to catch up!

DH took DS to the cinema this afternoon and then off to get more onesies. I have had the house to myself so can happily report the following:

TaDa
Tidied lounge floor, returned all cushions to sofas, folded throws
Sorted recycling and put various sacks back into outside store
Emptied and reloaded DW
Folded and put away five of the six loads of laundry
Prepped tomorrow's wash loads
Fed cats
Chicken chores:

  • topped up feed and grit, changed water
  • collected eggs
  • poop scooped the coop, topped up wood shavings
  • raked run, lobbed in a few handfuls of weeds pulled up from the garden
-(all of the above was closely monitored by the four girls who felt the need to make comments throughout...)
  • delivered half a dozen eggs to neighbours on either side of us

Have also managed to gather up no less than five bags of clutter, some for the tip, some for the charity shop

TooStressyTooMessy · 01/01/2020 17:30

Hello everyone! Happy New Year!

Big thanks to Lane for the new thread.

We have been out all day at friends. Had a lovely time but now home with two hungry children so going to sort out some tea!

KTCluck · 01/01/2020 17:32

Welcome spaceship. I’m quite new to the thread although have dabbled with fly lady in the past. It works well for me and everyone on the thread is lovely.

TaDas:

Upstairs is ‘blessed’ and lovely and tidy.
Landing drawers are sorted again.
One load of laundry washed and dried (forgot about the washing away the luck thing. Oops)
Dates in diary and I’ve planned how to use the rest of my annual leave.
Read the missions and it makes more sense to do them tomorrow when I take the decorations down and DD is at nursery.
Went for my run. Slipped on an icy bit a few minutes in (thankfully didn’t actually fall) and decided a brisk power walk was more sensible. Not what I’d planned but better than nothing.
Top up shop done
To do list for tomorrow compiled.
Bit the bullet and weighed myself. Ouch.

We had a lovely long walk with DD and her dolls pushchair, and a nice healthy lunch in a newly opened local cafe, then an afternoon of colouring in and TV.

Still need to sort the finances out, and I also want a chat with DH about the year’s plans Willow

Mog that’s impressive decluttering!

TooStressyTooMessy · 01/01/2020 17:52

Welcome spaceship Smile. The Flylady website has lots of information on it so is worth a look around.

Also if you are on Facebook and want to join a group there is a “Flylady UK group” which is good.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/01/2020 18:09

mog/it impressive lists
Lisette I thought of you as I treated myself to a square pomegranate and pistachio Turkish delight(reduced Waitrose after Xmas) it was so good I'm deffo not sharing with zoolets, and intend it as a square at a time only treat. So I can really enjoy it not mindlessly eat whole box in one go
Everyone's fed
Watched sound music with dd2
Sorted some recipes

Wraps tonight for little ones with salad and tuna/cheese
I fancy garlic and thyme roasted mushrooms on toast/naice bread with pesto and cheese and lots veg on side

Tinselette1940 · 01/01/2020 18:21

I've hidden mine zoo 😜🤫

Cineraria · 01/01/2020 18:29

Hello and Happy New Year! I'm hoping to join you this January if that's ok. I joined in with a few threads in Summer-Autumn 2018 but let things slip as I started the Christmas preparations that year and have been planning to try again since this time last year! It really helped to have some company.

I have kept up with a lot of the daily stuff ok, like morning and evening routines but need to do more of the decluttering and deep cleaning tasks. I'm hoping it will be easier now with DS1 at preschool and DS2 an enthusiast for "owpin" as he calls helping. I just saw that today's mission is supposed to be putting away stuff from our entrance. I have a big, old-fashioned, hard bodied pram there and nobody small enough to fit in it anymore; I should probably put that away as it collects clutter.

Wishing all of you good luck with keeping your homes how you like them in 2020.

Bowerbird5 · 01/01/2020 19:11

I remember you Cineraria and Mog of course.

My chicken laid an egg 🥚 on the 23rd first in ages I had it for tea on Christmas Day. Cleaned her out yesterday and topped up the straw because it is freezing here. Only thawed where the sun hit. How many have you got Mog. They are laying well if you are giving them away.

TooStressyTooMessy · 01/01/2020 19:17

Hello again Mog and Cineria Smile.

Not the most organised start to 2020 here Hmm. Girls are in childcare tomorrow and I don’t know what the timetable etc is or what activities they are doing (as didn’t think to check). Also just found a £10 off a Tesco shop that I forgot to use Angry. Will aim for better organisation tomorrow!

Bowerbird5 · 01/01/2020 19:23

Zoo I wondering if you were watching. We caught it after lunch.DH and cat fell asleep and then I nodded off for about 20mins. It is ages since I last saw it.

Shannaratiger · 01/01/2020 19:55

Evening all

Am planning my declutter .
Deliberating : - Perfume from wedding 5 years ago that I still don't like the smell of.
Kids stuff - plates they decorated at playschool, they're now 13 and 16, that they don't want.
Plastic toddler plates and bowls, occasionally get used but have alternatives.
Underwear that is currently too tight but might when I lose the weight.

Please tell me it's ok to throw them in the bin and that I won't need them one day. Hmm

I shall carry on with my To Do list for the year.

Hope everyone is having a great new years day.

KTCluck · 01/01/2020 20:16

Get rid of the perfume and toddler plates shannara. If you don’t like the scent now you aren’t going to like it as it ages. Take a photo of the playschool plates and get rid of them too. Get rid of the underwear unless any of it is particularly nice that might serve as motivation doesn’t work for me. I would have deliberated over the same things a year ago but after I went full Marie Kondo I’m ruthless.

I heard a good decluttering tip from a friend the other day - the 20/20 rule. If you aren’t sure about keeping or getting rid of something but can replace the item for less than £20 and in less than 20 minutes (I’m taking that to mean time spent sorting it, not that it has to be in your possession that quickly) then get rid.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 01/01/2020 20:46

ooh, I like that 20/20 rule, KT.

Not much serious flying here today. Have formed a committee with DH to discuss the possibility of a working group to look at what the overview of a plan for the year might look like. Will clearly have to refer to it steering and budgetary committees before any concrete decisions are made Grin.

Oh, and DS2 put a wash in! There is a genuine possibility he will have clean socks to wear tomorrow.

LaneBoy · 01/01/2020 20:56

20/20 is a great rule. I’m much better at getting rid of stuff since reading Kondo too. I was unable (physically) to actually do the full declutter in one go but I applied what I could such as when I did aaaaaaall the books in one go. Stuff has far less hold on me now.

Lovely to see some returners too! Welcome back! ❤️

I’ve had a pretty good day productivity wise. Slept till 10 but then managed to crack on fairly well.

ta da
💥Random tidying mainly in living room - lots of collecting toys/books, finding stuff to throw away etc
💥Moved laundry on (it was washed yesterday 😳😳😳 so doesn’t count!)
💥Chucked some dodgy stuff from the fridge
💥Managed to take Cagletini out to the park, we fed ducks and walked round to the swings. I don’t do that sort of thing much but I really need to get both of us out of the house more
💥Cooked dinner and cleared up after
💥Sorted the ridiculous pen/pencil box, chucked loads and sorted my stuff into a case and put other stuff aside for home ed supplies
💥Wrote a load of dates in the diary, some from emails etc some that I’d written in preparation at the back of the 2019 diary - including the note for August in the photo, which I scribbled at some point in September when I realised how disorganised we were and the Caglets had outgrown their tap shoes! I WILL be more organised this year

Aches definitely setting in now so I think I did a bit too much. So will try and take it easier this evening.

to do
🔰shower
🔰get clothes ready for tomorrow as I have an early start to get to psychiatrist appt (reviewing my ADHD meds)
🔰put home ed pencils/pens away
🔰write journal
🔰book yoga class and clarify plan with friend who is joining me
🔰get yoga clothes ready
🔰wipe out pen box
🔰read to DD1 (school book, although I’m not entirely sure the senco was correct in what she said they were working on Hmm but oh well)

Fledglings flying into the Roaring Twenties! January 2020 Flylady thread, all welcome.

Chuck it all Shannaratiger !!

Bower - I have four girls, who are nine months old; three of them lay an egg everyday without fail and one has just come through a soft moult and has only started laying again (odd in the depths of winter; I thought she wouldn't start again until spring)

Bowerbird5 · 01/01/2020 21:44

Have you got names?

I had four but just one left. They were rescue. I am not sure whether to go back to rescue or buy some others. Some of the rescue ones died quite quickly.

Strategicchoring · 01/01/2020 21:51

Lovely you have hens Mog Smile

ExpletiveDelighted · 01/01/2020 22:19

Well, not much Flying, I had a lazy morning then was out at a family gathering all afternoon and just watched the darts. DH put some washing on and rolled his eyes when I said it was bad luck.

Bowerbird5 · 01/01/2020 22:36

Charity shop?

Lane that is a great list.

Interesting about Kondo. I have wondered about reading her. I have trouble getting rid of things that have an emotional attachment. A long time ago a psychologist on the radio said that children that move a lot are all right if they have there things around them. By the time I was five I had moved house at least six times and three different countries involving two moves half way around the world and I had visited about 8 countries, living in three, in more than one house in some countries. I still have things from my childhood as far back as three. Toys etc. I think he was describing me. One of my sisters is like me the other two are not. One left home at 16 and was and is really tidy the other one is more ‘normal’. The one nearest me moved about a bit but not as much as me as I am 7 yrs older. Do you think she would be helpful?
I was also brought up by parents and an aunt (lived with family for a few months several times)that lived through WW2 which meant they didn’t waste anything. Folded brown paper, saved string, didn’t waste food. I do this. Re Xmas cards.😀

Bowerbird5 · 01/01/2020 22:38

Sounds like pampering ED.😀🥳
