Fledglings flying into the Roaring Twenties! January 2020 Flylady thread, all welcome.

LaneBoy · 31/12/2019 22:15

Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

Xpost SC totally agree about the rest of MN. So unsupportive and downright horrible. I have been looking for some supportive money saving threads but haven’t seen any yet. I seem to remember you recommended a good one a while back Lane?

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2020 22:21

zoo Flowers.

Good luck to your DD tomorrow SC.

Strategicchoring · 12/01/2020 22:23

That's exciting We3kings did you wave surreptitiously? Grin. Or get to see Brenda in her fishing hat? Grin

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 12/01/2020 22:29

Strategic I did zoom in to see if you can see us all gawping out of the window but I don't think you can. We didn't get much work done when they were there that's for sure.

Production staff kept coming round asking us to move cars (we are a car company so there are lots) so they could get better shots. In the end my manager told them not to come back and we weren't moving a thing 🙈

LaneBoy · 12/01/2020 22:30

Happy birthday kt!
Wowwww at that list we3!

Sorry nowhere near caught up with thread now. Tomorrow is going to be batshit crazy 😂 Cagletini to nursery, me to therapy, DS to chess, then me and big two to the circus in the afternoon.

ta da
✅bolognese portioned up in freezer
✅recurring alarm set for DS
✅various things written on in sharpie
✅wellies also initialled on the outside with a random pot of nail varnish!
✅nursery bag packed
✅my bag packed
✅Cagletini’s clothes ready for tomorrow
✅my clothes ready for tomorrow
✅coat pockets/wallets emptied and repacked
✅checked DD is ready for tomorrow (she’s assured me she is, so it’s not on me if she isn’t!)
✅dryer emptied (added to massive pile of clean laundry upstairs 😳)
✅therapy folder located, that took a while!

To my pleasant surprise I think we are actually pretty much ready for tomorrow now. We will still need to be very organised in the morning - DH will check DD has food, I’ll shower once they’ve all left as I don’t need to leave so early. I will also hopefully have time to ring the school again and ask about the app and dinner money payments Hmm

Nothing really left to do tonight except read my journal. I may continue hiding upstairs for this!

Stressy I’m on the Frugaleer threads which are lovely. They can appear a bit cliquey sometimes but much like this one it’s because many have been there years! But there’s always new people, it just moves really fast so there’s not as much referring back to other comments etc now (especially at this time of year).

Ha! That's amazing to have home and work of two fledglings featured on Vera Grin Grin

Well done on bedroom work Toostressy! Funnily enough, my printer has started doing that too and I am not sure why. I think it may in my case have something to do with the settings that say "adjust to fit" but need to investigate further!

Strategicchoring · 12/01/2020 22:45

Good luck with your busy day tomorrow Lane you are v well prepped, bravo! Hope Cagletini has a good week at nursery!

Xpost We3kings Grin we had a bit of a Flemish detective series filmed in our street and DD and I were gawping out of the windows too! Sadly the cameras were pointing in the wrong direction! Grin

Bowerbird5 · 12/01/2020 23:41

KTC 🎂Happy 🎁 Birthday

We3 that list was amazing.

We were watching Vera tonight. Really enjoyed it. I live in the north too so recognise some of the places. We’ve watching some we missed recently.
Our choir sang at the Sage once in BBC choir of the year competition. We really enjoyed the experience.

Lane great list do you realise you have stopped procrastinating! I’ve got better too. If it can’t wait till Wednesday then I usually get it done.

Zoo has he ever carried home a full shop? Even if he just picked you up each time. Lazyrs.

Toostressy it does sound like she was trying hard bless her.

I have continued with my lazy Sundays. Mass, coffee and chat, lunch with DH. Mumsnet 20 mins, pick the girls up, Choir, take the girls back, home cup of tea. DH was supposed to put tea on so it would be ready when I came home. He didn’t have it ready and I was starving. It went very cold at Choir in the second half. Cleaned cats ears. Baked potato (raw in middle)carrots broccoli and porksteaks in a yummy sauce.DH washed up. I made Sticky toffee pudding. Well I put it in the oven. Washed up pudding bowls.
I feel well rested and went to bed earlier and took meds at 10.
Plan to do part of boudoir tomorrow.

Waves to everyone. Plus put boot 🥾 up Ned’s bum if you see him.

Belated birthday wishes KT Cake Wine

HungryHazelEyes · 13/01/2020 06:40

Thank you everyone for the congrats for my new job. I'm going to have to hand in my two weeks notice to my manager on Tuesday as he was out last week, and decided to take tomorrow off as well. It's frustrating as I'm ready to start my new chapter.

Ta Das for today;
Figured out meals for the week, sorted out grocery shopping list, had a nice got relaxing bath, went grocery shopping. DH actually grilled hamburgers for dinner tonight, so I was able to get my gel nails done. DD wanted hers done too, so did hers after dinner. DD, DH and I played a card game after DS went to bed so ended up being a good day. Dw loaded and started, clothes out ready for tomorrow and I've just realised I forgot to get my lunch ready! Ahhh! Should only take me a couple of minutes in the morning. Feeling stuffed up and throat a little sore still, hopefully better in the morning.

HungryHazelEyes · 13/01/2020 06:43

Oh I forgot, I also tried reviving an indoor plant I've had for several years, but I think it's dead. MIL said to try Epsom salts in it, and I added a sponge underneath in the soil as I think it was getting waterlogged. Who knows, it may revive it, or it may be too far gone. It's worth a try I guess.

foxessocks · 13/01/2020 07:06

Morning everyone. Hazel I recently had to throw away a house plant, it was also waterlogged and had grown mould on the top too , I didn't know what to do! I'm not green fingered at all and have no luck with indoor plants. Hope yours perks up!

Yesterday started off a bit stressful, I had a plan for a Sunday of sorting and tidying and then my mother in law came over pretty much unannounced (as in called to say we are coming now). Anyway, lots of stressing but then the day picked up. Did lots of decluttering in dd bedroom (snap toostressy!). And dh did some homework with her. We even found time to watch the horrible histories film which we've been meaning to do! Think we enjoyed it more than the kids but they are a bit young for it really.

Nowhere near the amount I wanted to get done but still not all was lost!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 13/01/2020 07:31

Morning all! Happy birthday yesterday KT, sounds like you had a lovely day! Hazel, hope you can hand your notice in soon. Lane, brilliant organisation there. We3, that's an enormous list! Hope you have not wiped yourselves out. Stressy, foxes well done on your DDs' rooms. Cherry waves to everyone else!

Taking Friday afternoon and Saturday morning off really helped, and we got loads done yesterday.

Ta Das

  • 2 hours sorting out in the garage and big trip to the tip - has made such a difference
  • got to the charity shop with books etc - Bower, we are not north but just outside London (M25 belt). However, the roads were closed because of a bridge going in!
  • planted winter salads in the cold frame and sprinkled hollyhock seeds in the garden to see what happens
  • 2 washes done and handed out and DS2 kicked into washing his school shirts
  • roast beef cooked
  • bolognese (ish) sauce cooked and turned into lasagne for today, moussaka for Friday and chili for next week.
  • lunches and dinners planned for this week
  • bullet / control journal updated with a plan for today
  • kitchen cleaned, floor swept and doormat washed. Didn't get as far as mopping, but there's always today.

DD spent the afternoon singing and baking in the kitchen which was lovely as it means she's in a good place mentally (and we get cake). She was so down on Saturday as local friends are working really hard to make it clear she doesn't go to school with them so she's not part of their day to day gang. This is the lot who were crap at Christmas. I wish I could make it easier for her.

Right. 7.30. Time to get on and walk the dog. Have a good day, all.

LaneBoy · 13/01/2020 07:53

Ugh. Bleary eyed this morning.

Ugh willow what a mean bunch of kids :(

Foxes glad you enjoyed horrible histories, we are hoping to watch that soon! We love the TV show, but not the most recent ones so much since a lot of the original cast left.

Bower you’re right I’m procrastinating less. It’s the medication, they make me clearer headed so I can see what needs doing and get on with it. I keep thinking wow, is this what normal people feel like?! :o It isn’t a total cure, 30+ years of anxiety over demands/tasks doesn’t just disappear. But hopefully I can start small and gradually build up?!

Cagletini really doesn’t want to be awake!

Bowerbird5 · 13/01/2020 08:41

Lane i’ve Noticed so I think you can safely say it is helping. Your little steps are increasing.
Willow that ‘s strange one in, one out.

frankincenseandmur · 13/01/2020 09:35

Can I hop on please?. I want to get my arse into gear considering it’s a new year!. I have 2 sets of twins (all born in the same year) in a 2 bed flat, so the house is cluttered as you can imagine and I’d like to keep on top of it.

TooStressyTooMessy · 13/01/2020 09:45

Welcome frankencense Smile. New Year is a great time to start this kind of thing.

Bedrooms sound like good plan That.

Morning all. Oh Willow what a shame for your DD. Glad she made a cake for you all.

Lane, good luck with your incredibly busy day and hope you enjoy the circus! That sounds great that your meds are helping. I will look at that frugaleers thread thank you.

foxes glad you managed to get some decluttering done and made a bit of progress, especially with your DD’s room too Smile.

Bower, yes she did do well bless her and at least it looks tidier in there... for now anyway!

If I have any joy with the printer I will report back SC.

Cherry waves to everyone else.

We all overslept this morning and I woke up to DD2 shouting me. Thank goodness she did or who knows what time it would have been! I must have turned off the alarm.

Ta da:-
Made it to school on time
Got petrol and a couple of other bits we needed. Forgot milk which is irritating but we do have enough so it’s ok.

To do:-
Morning routine
Power hour
Reply to a work email
Research why printer is printing small Confused. Have googled it and it doesn’t actually seem that easy!

Strategicchoring · 13/01/2020 09:47

Morning!

Similar to my plan That but I need a full week for the boudoir by itself Blush. Good luck with yours!

A warm welcome (or welcome back!? ) to Frankincense! Wow two sets of twins all so close in age must be a challenge but must be totally amazing too Smile

Sorry about your dd's so-called friends Willow Sad. Really awful they are being so unkind.

Good luck for Tuesday Hazel

ChicCroissant · 13/01/2020 09:56

Congrats and good luck with the new role, Hazel

I've done the school run, some hand-washing (dancewear and tights) and I'm getting myself set up for an hour's worth of ironing.

Then a bit of shopping to get some more SW-friendly food. DH does seem to have lost weight so here's hoping that the weigh-in later this week is motivating for him.

Hope nursery goes well for Cagletini, she can always sleep through I I suppose!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 13/01/2020 10:09

I'll bet he's done really well chic. I usually get a half stone off in a first week back at slimming world.
