Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

Morning

"D"p is melting down, now claiming whole lifes ruined and shut himself off....

This means I have to either-
Shop locally and not get everything had planned
Trail zoolets to town, then shop locally
Town takes 45 mins to walk to
Local shops 15
Also need do chazza drop- part has to be not local as items bought for girls by friends that won't use and she uses chazzas....
FFS.will my life ever be less complicated??

Tada
Wash on
Cats fed
Sweep living room floor
Relocate little table that's naturally piled high stuff
Half find dining table
Text argue manchild briefly then send him text I refuse engage whilst he's in this mindset.hes now naturally ignoring me!
Angry tidy front room
Faint at finding all D's laundry IN HIS LAUNDRY BIN!!!!put load his wash in
Pay online bills
Write two shop lists- plan a+b DEP on temperament of zoolets...

Out of milk,so about pop co op before fun commences....

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 12/01/2020 08:23

Oh zoo, what a pain. Hope the zoolets are co-operative. And hope "d"p extracts his finger, stops stropping and sorts himself out.

Have decided the only possible way forward here is lists and planning. At least that way I feel vaguely in control.

To Dos Today
Morning routine
Sweep and mop downstairs
Batch cook bolognese for lasagne, moussaka, chili for freezer
Homework for DS3
Monthly and weekly plans in BuJo
Financial stuff
Possible second attempt at charity shop run (roads closed yesterday, was impossible)
Second tip run with rubbish from garage, in the hope of being able to get in there.
Dye hair to declutter increasingly grey roots.
Roast beef for dinner. Must remember to do yorkies.

Half an hour with my book first, as my bullet journal is upstairs. If I go and fetch it, it will start a chain reaction of waking DH so the dog will get over excited then I'll have to throw clothes on and walk him and resent every single step with the yappy pillock (Mr Willow, or Willowhound? You choose!) So I'm staying here.

Declutter grey hairs- very funny 😂😂😂

rachael12345 · 12/01/2020 08:58

Going to try v hard to renew spirit today .
Off for blowy walk solo with dog now hooray!
New weekend plan re food going to write this down and stick to it. To make effort for me to be almost nothing.

Friday make sandwiches for sat lunch , then we are a bit more ready to get out of house on time.

Sat dh usually makes eggs for breakfast which I am v happy about, and can handle resulting mess..
Sandwiches out somewhere.
Sat afternoon bath and hair wash for kids pre dinner.
Takeaway. (Most open slightly afyer our normal tea time which has put me off in thr past, but if kids are ready for bed this makes this fine. I'm a real stickler for keeping bedtime exactly same always)
Sun - quick brekkie then solo walk.
Sat lunch - often out with elderly family/ our own outing or if at home this is wildcard.
Sat supper - cheese toasties, tinned soup in a mug , ideally on sofa.

LaneBoy · 12/01/2020 10:01

Morning all. Accidental lie in meaning I am only taking my meds now at 10am 😳 meant to be at 7.30 but I hit stop instead of snooze. Oops.

Here is the launch pad

Friend visiting in an hour or so, need to actually get ready for the day.

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 12/01/2020 14:13

Zoo did you by any chance inform him of your decision?
He does often seem to have a strop when you are doing a big shopHmm
Angry tidying is often good. You get it done quicker.
DS bless him perhaps he is seeing flylady works and is doing a bit of his own flying.

Willow wondering if you are north as roads closed near here to remove a bridge. Good idea about the book.
Rachael sounds a good plan. Oh what I would do for a cheese toastie...I can't have dairy any more.
LaneBoy Love it that you hit stop luckily no app. so maybe you needed it.I woke at 7:30am then lay thinking of the things I could do if I got up early and promptly fell back asleep. I need to take my meds earlier so they have worn off and I get up earlier. Have got into a bad sleep pattern. Have slept better the last two nights.

Been to Mass.
Had lunch, Dh went shopping and brought sausage rolls back our oven is fantastic for heating up things like this.Choir shortly then back for supper DH is making it and hope to clean out one bedroom drawer.

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2020 15:00

Hello all. I am trying to help DD2 tidy her room. She would like more space to play. She would not like to throw out anything to make this happen Hmm.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2020 15:52

Bower he HATES shopping and will do almost anything to avoid it.he prefers online shopping/for food he goes Aldi/Iceland/farmfoods combo once a month then occasionally gets top up milk as he only eats cereal and microwave friendly food in evening, plus A LOT eating at mine....I point out I shop often as I'm feeding HIS KIDS but deaf ears and all that...

Tada
Lil zpo kick off has tummyache/D's was stressed as spent night worrying about dad and barely slept...
I gave up and just took dd2
Took the trolley and trundled off
A clothes shop that's been on main high street a year was closing, last day.dd2 beg go in.we spent £25 and came out with 3carrier bags-trousers for me and her £2/3 each.jeans £3-5,cargo trousers £3,she got pair dungarees reduced £27-£10!!
Then hit shops needed go in
Left town laden down full trolley and 4full carrier bags.aldi on way out town.we should've bought fruit but the bags were killing us,so just got wraps, rolls, crumpets and bread
Staggered home palpitations at full power, dead hands from circulation cut off.that 45 mins walk felt like bloody hours!got back 1.30,dump bags, check kids and tag team dd2 for DS and head Waitrose for fruit and dairy free bits and a reduced box mini battenburg may have fell into basket
Lug that uphill I felt so I'll I sent DS to get dd2 as he's hopeless at carry bags, but her arms/back her hurt from town so I did try leave her at home...
She appeared as I reach top our road and took two of the four bags and walk with me home.id have made it,but not able reassure D's constantly as need concentrate breathing, not talking as pant when palpitations are really bad...
Finally home at 230
Put fridge stuff away
Lunch(rolls with salad etc)
Almost sorted rest bags now
Needed to stop 5mins

Really need lay quiet but need put rest bits away then clean bathroom as man's coming fix light first thing Tommorow and I can't see to clean in there once it gets dark, and OT picking up D's so can't let her into bag strewn front room whilst he sorts shoes and coat!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/01/2020 17:40

Most shop sorted
Bathroom s+s
Disinfected littertray
Bins empty
New clothes in wash...

LaneBoy · 12/01/2020 18:05

ta da
✅bolognese in slow cooker and cleared detritus from the prep
✅got DD doing her homework
✅printed all maths and geography for DS next week
✅persuaded a grumpy DS into the shower (he’s sooooo bored because he was banned from consoles today)

OP posts:
LaneBoy · 12/01/2020 18:06

✅put a wash on, DS just put it in dryer for me (well he was bored so...)
✅printed week A timetable for DD

OP posts:
LaneBoy · 12/01/2020 18:22

I need to:
🎯cook the pasta/garlic bread for the bolognese
🎯rinse out new Tupperware so I can freeze the rest
🎯portion up said bolognese when it’s cool
🎯shower
🎯find a sharpie to write on Cagletini’s boots/bag/coat etc
🎯make sure DD1 is all packed for school with clothes hung up ready
🎯pack Cagletini’s bag for nursery
🎯get clothes ready for me and Cagletini
🎯download and log in to Tapestry app for nursery
🎯fill in nursery “about me” form
🎯pack bag for tomorrow
🎯put note on door reminding DS to take a fiver for new chess club tomorrow
🎯arrange pick up time for DS as friend is taking him to chess
🎯set up parentpay
🎯download class charts homework app and see if DD1’s login works
🎯make sure DD has food for tomorrow in case the canteen payment thing doesn’t work (they’ve not taken her thumbprint yet)
🎯discuss if there’s going to be another element of work for DS this week - I’m thinking a new “person of the week” research task or maybe another workbook but I’m out loads this week so it’s DH who has to implement it
🎯email support worker (difficult thing to word so I gave up earlier)
🎯read journal entries since last therapy session and decide if there’s anything particular to discuss
🎯get DS to set recurring 7.30 alarm for weekdays (he will be doing the nursery run once most days, and has to tomorrow as I have therapy)

I should probably get on with stuff...

OP posts:
LaneBoy · 12/01/2020 18:56

ta da continued
✅dinner nearly ready to serve (slightly slower as the hob keeps switching off?!)
✅washed new Tupperware, plus kids/my bottle
✅put note on door for DS
✅got empty pill bottle prepped with two day’s worth of meds - going to keep this on me at all times in case I ever forget a dose

✔️ sorted DS3 shoes as he had a few pairs in his wardrobe which were too small
✔️ put the tower fan in the loft (been meaning to do this since September)

✔️ polished the door, light switch and sockets in their room

✔️hoovered DS3 room

HungryHazelEyes · 12/01/2020 19:59

toostressy I hope you were able to figure something out with DD in sorting her room out. Funny how they want space to magically appear isn't it?!
bower hopefully you figure out your meds and sleep. I'm jealous of your DH making dinner, mine won't unless it involves grilling outside!
zoo I'm sorry your "D"P is acting like a spoiled toddler having a tantrum. I hope you have an opportunity to relax at some point. I wish your DP could open his eyes to the extra work it makes you do when he acts out like that.
Rachael thank you for your dinner inspiration. I'm sitting here trying to think of what to make this week and instead I'm on mumsnet lol!
lane that is a huge to do list. I'm wondering if you're able to get some relaxing squeezed in there also.

I slept in late this morning, hate doing that, but needed it as I didn't feel good last night, fever, sore throat (hurt so bad to swallow). This morning was much better although my voice sounds very rough.

To Dos for today - sort out food shopping list (meals etc need to get figured out still) food shop needs to get done as well. I still never did my gel nails, hoping to do them as well. A bath sounds really good as well. I'm sure there's more, but I've no motivation.

KTCluck · 12/01/2020 20:24

What a list We3!

Zoo I hope you're feeling better now and I hope DP is made to.feel very guilty for forcing you to walk.

Did you make much progress in DD's room Too?

Star for your organisation Lane

I've had a very lazy day today. DH gave me a lie in as a birthday treat and also treated us to a carvery, meaning we only wanted toasties for tea and there have been minimal dishes. I had an afternoon nap.afterwards then woke feeling a bit agitated so we all wrapped up and went for a walk via the shop. DD was asleep before 7pm which is an absolute record for her. I'm now all comfy and about to watch Vera then head off to bed. We had a late night last night and I've felt a bit ropey from lots of wine and rich food. Will.do.a quick.straighten of the living room before.I head up.

Ta Das:
DD's bedding washed and back on, room tidied and clothes hung up
Dish washer loaded
Clean laundry put away
Work uniform ironed (I did the absolute minimum)
Visited relatives and was spoilt with birthday things
Bags semi packed for tomorrow

I can't remember the last time I had such a lazy day. Apart from the walk I've barely left the sofa since lunch. It's been fab!

LaneBoy · 12/01/2020 20:35

✅served up dinner
✅downloaded and logged in to tapestry
✅set up parent pay (slightly concerned it doesn’t show free school meal eligibility on there... the receptionist assured me it would?!)
✅filled in nursery form and added support worker email on the end in case they want to contact her
✅emailed support worker
✅downloaded class charts, tried to log in but it’s not the right info - this was meant to be given on Friday 🙄
✅checked pick up time for chess tomorrow
✅emptied bag
✅checked timetable to get bus time for therapy tomorrow

Happy birthday Kt

My work was on Vera tonight!

Fledglings flying into the Roaring Twenties! January 2020 Flylady thread, all welcome.
THAT90sBITCH · 12/01/2020 21:45

lane one of mine has parent pay and entitled fsm, it does not mention it on there at all, if he spends £2.40 or less it shows he spent £0 that day, if he spends more (i top it up extra as he eats a lot) it shows just that amount e.g. 20p

KTCluck · 12/01/2020 21:52

Thanks Hazel and We3. I’m in the north east too, I love trying to work out where scenes are filmed. My house was on once if you paused and squinted a bit and knew where to look

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/01/2020 22:19

Happy birthday KT Smile.

Exciting about We3! And the fact that your house was on it once KT Grin.

Belated congratulations on job Hazel.

Ended up doing much more than I thought I would in DD2’s room. She was quite enthusiastic so thought I may as well get on with it.

Tidied the storage boxes and hoovered under her bed. Went through toys and established that she MUST KEEP all of them Hmm. However, she did get rid of 3 pairs of leggings that don’t fit and a onesie yesterday. Plus 3 dress up outfits which will go to a school that wanted some. She also identified a bag full of dress up stuff that she wants to keep but not to clutter up her room. Wants to keep it in the living room for when friends come over and want to dress up. Only her special dress up stuff will stay in her room HmmHmmHmm. I have agreed for now as she did so well with the rest of the stuff. Plus reorganised the space slightly so she has more room to play.

On a different note our printer is printing stuff out half the size it should. As in there is A4 paper in there, the work should be A4 but is coming out A5. Anyone know why?!
