Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

willowFlowers
Stressy boxes will be filled as fast then overflow onto surfaces here...
That I got my fridge boxes at wilko, but £shop had some dd1 got last one

Well I now can efficiently "egg roll" pants, and larger socks are all "box folded"
Someone really needs to shoot me,but the sad satisfaction of tidy drawers...

Sorted thru my drawers eliminating anything i was given that doesn't fit well/not my colour etc.this forces me to buy new clothes...rest is neatly folded and returned
I have two binbags for chazza of clothes outgrown by zoolets(how did I miss culling VESTS from lil zoo.shes 12 and fills a 28c bra FFS!!)plus few my things
My drawers look very empty now neat folding has been implemented to things that are staying
3loads wash done, last in dryer, rest folded and put away

Lunch made

To do
Plan next week meals and write shop list
Clean bathroom

It is a good group here Willow I lurked till I was confident to join after a previous unpleasant experience on mumsnet for offering a different solution and view.
Their warmth and caring shone through and I am so glad to find such great people.

Bowerbird5 · 11/01/2020 13:05

Oh Zoo I love it.🥰

Strategicchoring · 11/01/2020 13:13

Whey hey That many congrats on passing your 4th uni essay and congrats to your dc4 on making such a great start at nursery! Good luck with the job-hunting ! Star Star ]Star

Strong Brew for Rachael glad you found the book helpful. I also liked the fact that it is so pragmatic and sensible, and specific ( it stops me dithering)!

Very sorry to hear that things are such tough going currently Willow reading your posts I think you pack a heroic number of things in to each day and you are evidently doing loads and loads to facilitate each of your dc, so don't be too hard on yourself! Flowers I agree with KTCluck that you need to look after yourself (as much as is humanly possible when you have so much on). Tis great you have had a long bath and a bit of a read today. Oh and I am with you in spirit re: re-starting healthy eating plan next week, it all went to pot this week because we have had quite a few catching-up-after-Christmas-social things on and we are out again tonight. Back in my elasticated trousers Blush

I hope you can have as relaxing a weekend as possible Bowerbird with all the stress you are undergoing currently Flowers

Mahoosive waves to everyone else and ta for link Lane!

Feel quite energised today (unusual!!). We've just had a family meeting about a few objectives in the house prompted by the fact that dh has rearranged our cleaner's schedule without consulting me properly first Hmm ie I knew he was going to discuss a few issues with her but not that he was going to rearrange the days on which she works without asking me. It is (sort of) within his remit as she cleans the office too but it's taken me a bit of time to calm down and discuss it with him rationally. She will be doing the same hours apparently but on one day, not two days. And I have lost my precious Fri morning slot as she will be coming mid-week. Not the end of the world but annoying and if we happen to be entertaining on a Friday , and the house is messy, I am going to hand dh the hoover!

Loads happening here atm extended-family-wise (can't elaborate unfortunately but lordy it is "interesting" to put it mildly ...) and wrt school PA stuff but Flying-wise hoping by end of weekend to have:

  • put away all presents and written and posted all thank you notes
-completed family bed-making -make inroads in to boudoir -carry on laundry (already started) -carry all decorations up many many stairs to roof! That means at least three trips each no slacking! -meal planning -exercise - prob good long long walk in forest with the sausages

Have meeting to prepare for this afternoon, so had better get on with it now!

Have a lovely weekend fledglings!

Don't want to sound negative and baskets and containers can help immensely to neaten up a room, if in the right place and if emptied regularly, but I am with Zoo on this one in that eventually, imho, they just fill up and it's another thing to deal with. In my experience, everyone takes great delight in filling them up, but it's only you that ends up emptying them. And if you are going to have a strict policy of emptying them regularly, then why not clear it off the surface straightaway ifyswim? (I am not saying I do this well btw - I am pretty crap at keeping the place uncluttered tbh - I am just saying this has been my experience to date when I have tried using more baskets/boxes to improve cleaning systems!)

My hall drawer for cables and electrics is one such example. It was brilliant when we first had it, all cables and chargers left strewn about by dh or dd got flung in there, and it was great having them in one place and knowing where to look if one went missing, but after 2 years it is now difficult to open and close and no-one wants to tackle it. Ultimately it is the stuff inside it that needs culling.

rachael12345 · 11/01/2020 13:53

Omg that message board is brilliant! And nice and stylish.

Last week I would've instantly popped one on amazon list and cheered up myself and also boosted dd phonics aa she would much prefer to read that than blooming boring biff and kipper - this week, can I face the eco lecture from dh?
God he says with enormous panic in voice we have to stop buying all stuff!!! His massive anxiety is currently focused on the admittedly scary state of the world with climate change, tories, trump everything and how I / we aren't doing anything about it. I say sorry I'm too busy looking afyer the kiss feeding him and them and washing everyone's clothes! And I don't want to talk about it or it will get me down too.
He did admit last night that he's in a bad place but thinks the current relationship clashes come from both of us. I rrally dont think im unrealist in feeling I'm mostly just reacting to him and am totally fed up with dealing with the never ending cycle of ups and downs over past 5 years of him not dealing with and mostly not admitting to having depression (despite numerous doctors bores excusing him from getting uni work in on time snd them letting him repeat a year for exactly this )

I get it really I do and in terms of everything household I make ethical decisions food, cleaning, washing products, clothes even these days - but things like this and nightlights I think really improve life in special little ways and there ain't really an eco alternative ..
Bla . Rant over.

Actually I'm going to buy a mesdage board. Thanks for the tip

I'm sitting outside a corner shop with both kids asleep. Goung to pop in for a magnum and eat it all to myself Smile

Tinselette1940 · 11/01/2020 14:06

I have downgraded it from a slight touch of pleurisy to rubbish temp at end of virus. Shoulder blade pain is gone but I've had a temperature since yesterday. If it doesn't break tomorrow, I'll go to the doctor. Husband tells me now that he had something similar last week after virus.

rachael12345 · 11/01/2020 14:08

Not sure that worked. It's 'idmix'

TooStressyTooMessy · 11/01/2020 15:03

Well done on essay that Star.

Rachael, hope you enjoyed your magnum

Well I was on a roll and feeling fairly smug about how I was getting on ok. Get back to car park... car won’t start as I left the lights on. Aaaaaggggghhhh. Feel like such an idiot. The car has an alarm on it if you leave the lights on but I often don’t hear it as it is so quiet. Waiting for the AA...

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 11/01/2020 15:50

Finally got round to filling out my diary today - better late than never

Have also
S&S
Load of washing
Ironing
Hoovered everywhere but stairs
Kept everyone fed and watered and tidied up after.
Popped to the shops

Actually I haven't done that much and it's nearly 4pm. Where has the day gone?

LaneBoy · 11/01/2020 16:07

Links are tricky on my phone but hopefully y’all know where the launch pad is :o #slackhost

Feel super meh today

ta da
✅tried out piano again. Not for me. I’d have to really be in love with it to replace the piano I’ve had since I was ten (I’m 33 now).
✅posted photo of said piano on local group so I could forward the owner’s number with her permission :) she’s had some interest already so I feel better about that
✅watched Netflix properly (I know that sounds like a ridiculous achievement but I’ve been avoiding watching anything new for a while as it requires concentration

That’s it

OP posts:
LaneBoy · 11/01/2020 16:14

Oh actually ta da
✅made my lunch (also a lame achievement but still)

Tinselette glad you feel but better, hope tomorrow is better still and you've broken the back of it
Rachel totally get where you are coming from.DO NOT allow his anxiety to encroach on your needs or you will get more and more suffocated
DS has a beautiful moon night light dd1 bought him.
A nightlight is not the end of the Evo world and if you cannot enjoy life and make it a little easier, what's the point??

Tada

Tired and stressed tonight

rachael12345 · 11/01/2020 20:08

Oh God zoo major sympathies so much for you to keep a handle on. Here's a large vino🍷
Many Thanks for your words - suffocating is a really good word for it actually. I had counselling last year when he was really bad and just couldn't see it and it was so helpful just to blurt out every thing I was thinking abd feeling as this was so much i felt to keep buttoned up as it was easier than saying things to him that get misconstrued.
We've been having couples counselling last few months which haa been great actually but going to stop this soon when he goes back to his own therapist - I've booked in to go back to my counseller again for more of the same. Tbh im finding this thread v helpful to dump everything in. I'm so sorry folks if you're fed up with hearing all this stuff. .

Lane u totally get what ypu kean about properly watching TV! ! Funny. I just want to vaguely look at some no commital mush atm. I've been sort of watching the baby thing that's on every night atm. It's v nosy just clips of different families getting used to new babies with no voice over or opinions - I quite like it tbh. I reckon the gay couple are having far too easy a time of it!

ChicCroissant · 11/01/2020 20:37

If I think it is infected I will see someone straight away zoo, it has been bleeding for about a month now. I'm feeling a bit calmer now and hoping for a big improvement overnight

DD thrilled to have guessed one of the Masked Singers correctly (thanks to MN tbh) so that's her night made!

Looking forward to a glass of wine later on. Had a slimming world ready meal which was quite nice tonight, and have found the SW section of MN so will read up for tips now.

THAT90sBITCH · 11/01/2020 21:04

Oh i want to watch that baby thing!

I want to see if the family on baby five share my level of chaos ...

TooStressyTooMessy · 11/01/2020 21:36

Oooh what is the baby thing? Sounds worth a watch.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/01/2020 22:02

Babies on TV??where can I watch this??

Tinselette1940 · 11/01/2020 22:32

I think it's 'The baby has landed' on BBC1.

Phoned NHS 24 for advice and got med suggestions so feeling happier.

Bowerbird5 · 11/01/2020 23:38

There was a lovely baby on Casualty tonight. I asked DH if he would like a grandchild and he said “No!” I was 😳then he said “ Well, I suppose it would be alright. It would be a bit like having a dog...you don’t really want one but it would be alright once it got here I suppose.” 🤦🏼‍♀️
Just as well DD isn’t keen to rush into being a mum. They have been together 10 years now. They are having a great time travelling.

I found the poky stick and gave myself a good jab with it

LaneBoy · 12/01/2020 01:48

Trying to think if I managed anything else

✅went to hobbycraft with friends (we are soooo rock n roll!) and bought charcoal pencils
✅started to do list for tomorrow. Ugh.

Been entirely useless otherwise
