Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

Morning all,

Back to work for me today, DCs are back at school tomorrow (INSET days). So they are in charge of Flying today.

Spent two hours taking down and packing Christmas decorations, I'm always sad to see the house bare but it's quite satisfying fitting everything back into the boxes.

ExpletiveDelighted · 07/01/2020 07:07

Two hours yesterday that is, not today.

THAT90sBITCH · 07/01/2020 07:33

Morning all

I have woken with a really sore back again but dont know why today. It made sense the other day when i had slept holding the baby but now i have no idea why!

Dc 1, 3 and 4 are up. Need to wake dc2 if his alarm doesnt do the trick.

My big two sort socks zoo Dd could do it as in she can match them but she cant roll into a ball

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 07/01/2020 08:00

Morning all! Expletive, you're brave leaving DCs in charge of flying! I tried that at the weekend with DH; nothing occurred! Grin

Hi OhMs - sometimes I find I have to do things in the wrong order to get the right outcome, IYSWIM. You could have emptied the cupboard first but then you'd have had a living room full of cupboard stuff and no space to build... Hope you get your room back today.

Bower, I love your long posts, gin-fuelled or no.

Lane, what an utter faff re: meds. We are stuck in a similar (ish) loop in that the surgery keep losing my prescription because it's technically private and I have to allow an afternoon of chasing all over town every month to work out where it's gone. Then, the GP keeps buggering about with DD's dosage, even though she should just be signing off on what the consultant asked for and she does not know better; and DS2's meds have stalled because the letter got lost in the Christmas post. You have my sympathies, hope it is easier in future.

Big wing flaps to Stressy, Chic, SC, zoo, Hazel, that, Rachael, foxes and anyone else I can't hold in my head - sorry, I'm on the app.

Must get on now, similarly busy day to yesterday. DD has her Comp Sci GCSE mock this morning and is absolutely terrified. DS2 needs poking back to actual school. DS1 needs to finish an essay, do all his washing and have a driving lesson. Dentist again today for the two biggest DC. Hoping DH will walk Willowhound, I've run out of oomph!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 07/01/2020 08:20

Well I finally made a start on my biology assignment last night. Just needed to get my head back into it again after completely ignoring all my college work over Xmas.

Cleaned the doors on the top units in the kitchen while wait for the kettle to boil this morning.

Stuck a wash on and actually had an empty washing basket until the dc got up.

Did 2 loads of ironing.

Again didn't have time to straighten my hair or put on anything other than foundation (on my face I do have clothes on honest).

S&S

Now off to work but my car is on for repair so I'm bussing it. Absolute nightmare to get to work on the bus and I will be late but it's a company car and they are sorting repair so if they want me there on time they need to hurry up 😂

Strategicchoring · 07/01/2020 08:42

Good morning all!

We all slept through alarm (including the furries! Grin) so bit of a scramble here this morning!

Zoo dd1's puppy sounds fab! Grin

A warm welcome to OhMsBeliever ; great that your teen lads do their bit! Flat pack assembly definitely counts as choring!

That glad to hear the little fella is on the mend! (Good luck with dcs going back to school this morning!)

Glad to hear that your bf is feeling better too Bower what a long do she has had. (Oooh I would love a working cocker! I have to hold my DH back from buying another dog atm, as he is keen on a third!). I really enjoy your long posts too! Grin

Hazel . Hope your dog is ok. It's very difficult with daschunds and jumping off beds etc. Our house has lots of stairs too which isn't good. On advice of vet, we keep our furries very, very, fit so that they have good muscles supporting the spine. That's the theory anyway but the "puppy" is always climbing on back of sofa which worries me, but she loves leaning over to window and sticking her nose through the net curtains to see who is passing by on the street; she enjoys "greeting" her regulars Grin
Hope your car is ok. How often do you get back to Blighty?

Thank you very much indeed for soup recipe KTCluck I will be making that today! Much appreciated! (Back to healthy eating plan today!) I have a spring wedding (apparently as no dates fixed as yet) to slim for! Like the sound of your dh's composed salad!

Well done on having such a productive start to the week Lane! And thanks for keeping tabs on us all at such a busy time!

Hope your commute is not too torturous this morning We3kings and well done for Flying during kettle-boiling time and for starting essay!

Good luck to your dd with her mock exam this morning Willow!
That's a totally amazing list you ploughed through yesterday! Star. In fact, everyone is doing brilliantly!

So sorry your DH is feeling low Rachael. Hope he can be persuaded to go back to doc . I don't like the parents>pig scene either nor am I a great fan of animé in general tbh (don't read this bit LaneGrin!!) but dd loves it!

Hope your knee is not too painful this morning and that you are ok generally Foxes? Hope you are getting enough time just for yourself?

Waves to Honu Shannara Mogs Expletive Chic Lisette Toostressy and everyone else I've missed, especially newcomers! Hope you are all doing ok!

I've got more of the same (choring) to do today for the GCCU (Great Christmas Clear Up 2020). Honestly, you would have thought I was running a hotel, rather than just having a few visitors to stay, but the amount of bed linen and towels and bath mats etc they have produced for washing is ginormous. Have just put a frankly embarrassng number of bags of rubbish and recycling out, although we honestly tried to be more eco-conscious this year. Did receive some beeswax wrap for a present so going to try them. And did ban anything with glitter. But must try harder next year not to produce so much rubbish. We did eat up all left overs and tried very hard not to waste food. But even so, too much ended up in the bin.

Tree be chopped and chipped tomorrow Sad

Determined to do something creative too (NY resolution)! And start healthy eating/exercise plan. And will stop in at florists today as everything looks so bare with decorations down, I shall buy a small bunch of flowers.

Oh gawd that was another essay sorry!
Had better crack on!
Have a good one everybody!

🍒👋

Strategicchoring · 07/01/2020 08:48

Any chance of seeing a physio That? You must be doing a lot of bending/pushing/lifting with pushchair/prams/little 'uns etc.

Strategicchoring · 07/01/2020 09:48

Btw Willow totally agree that it is sometimes better to do things in "wrong" order rather than not do them at all!

LaneBoy · 07/01/2020 11:33

Morning all! Not caught up yet so just a quick list while I’m on the bus

✅sat up before the first snoozed alarm went off :o (think that may be today’s biggest achievement tbh)
✅healthier breakfast (boiled egg and a slice of granary)
✅sterilised organicup
✅printed worksheet for DS
✅moved some notes on phone around to make a tracking folder - things like spends, weight etc. I’d love to have a bulletin journal but I think setting it up would be too distracting at the moment.
✅adapted to change when friend cancelled coming to yoga - was too late to walk or bus it by then so I got a taxi. Not ideal ££ but it’s my last chance to exercise for a few days and I used the opportunity to drop in the nursery forms on the way so that’s another ✅
✅remembered again that I’d left meds at home because I’d tried being sensible and put the pot back in the cupboard last night 🤦‍♀️ Soon I’ll have an empty one though so I’m thinking of putting a few of each dose in it and keeping it in my bag
✅yoga!!! Oddly this class was easier than Thursday’s which is labelled “gentle” :o but the beginning was tricky especially combined with cramps. But I did it and I do feel better for it.

Just going to grab food (this is one thing I really need to get more organised with both for my health and my bank balance!) and then I have my eye test.

Bowerbird5 · 07/01/2020 13:06

SC I like you long posts too. One because always interesting and enjoy the bits about living over there and festivals and goings on.
And two because it makes me feel better about my long posts.

I reckon if some of us got together we could natter for at least a week non stop!🤣

I have spent a long time trying to sort my phone out. Nokia gave up the ghost and I bought a new one. I have a contract with EE but bloody hell what a palaver. 150 say the shop gave me the wrong info. They can’t give me my old number and I can’t get into it to get my contact numbers. Think I am going to have to buy a second hand one and beginning to wish I had thought of that in the first place. Aargh! Plus the amount of time it took was ridiculous. I think he must have been new at the job as he kept putting me on hold.

rachael12345 · 07/01/2020 13:09

Lane - re the buses.
A few years ago I worked for local council and was often telling people about a benefit which -not v helpfully- I can't remember the name of... obv I don't know what your personal circumstances are. Also things have changed in recent years but might be worth enquiring. Basically anyone with long standing illness/disability could claim to this to help with life costs associated with the problem. Eg on taxis to appointments.
You may also have a local community voluntary organisation who hAve volunteer drivers who take peeps to essential health appointments. Most often used by the ejderly but they do usually help anyone in need of the help. Will vary area to area though.

Bowerbird5 · 07/01/2020 13:10

Some amazing ta Das already. I haven’t done anything useful thesis morning. I went back to sleep and slept fitfully till 10i wish I had got up at 6 now. I am trying to get sleep pattern back but worrying about a meeting this week.

Will pop back when I have done something.

rachael12345 · 07/01/2020 13:18

Re organised mum/ Mrs hinch. I've got a friebd who did OM sounds much re same but with all the self esteem flywashing stuff. Mrs hunch I'd love to try this zoflora pretty smelly stuff but it doesn't pass my eco filter I'm Afraid ... if anyone has a safer alternative I'd be keen to know.

On boring cleaning products chat. I've just finished aged tub of astonish which has been marvellous for bottoms of saucepans etc (I have ceramic hob rhich is total pain in the are and pans dont get hot if they aren't spotless on the bottom) enyway astonish is not eco - anyone able to suggest a similar alternative? I'm happy to make my own if needs be.

rachael12345 · 07/01/2020 13:41

Defo flying tiday.
BTW I got you all almond croissants earlier but had coffee out. You want them for lunch dessert instead? 💛💛

Dressed to shoes,
S&s
kids dressed
Made beds
Lol
Tidied kitchen following dh attempt to feed kids.. fed kids. Hmm what was he doing all that time???
Dw on
School run (in by skin of teeth despite being up at 6 - how??? )
Ahh lovely coffee with buddies. 😊😊
Babe slept , brief shopping.
CArd and dd's pic posted to poorly granny.
Home and cuddled babe in quiet house 😊😊
HD a look on ebay for more baby gates. Dh determined we don't buy new stuff to save the planet - but doesn't realise it's v v time consuming to source 2nd hand of what you actually want/need rather than what's available - but I do get it so will continue. Anyway current set up drives me more than crazy than him so I will put the effort in.
Attacked mess like whirling dervish - dd desk area now very neat. The rest not so but ok.
Swept under kitchen cupboards - what?? Been years since last did this.
Fixed babies wheely trolley with cable ties (dh says what a bodge - I say ha! It works now and look at his sweetness toddling about grinning )
Sorted simple supper - sausage mash and gravy, broccoli prob or will root around in fridge later. Mash already made at weekend.
Further baby proofed dd drawing desk - it has play pen around it which he constant want to get into and rob felt tips...

Planned what's happening tomorrow.
Nice salady and definitely not picky child friendly lunch (hooray for school)
Babes asleep
I'm blooming exhausted now.

Was planning to sort some laundry but really can't be bothered now.
Lunch tidy up and dw are non negotiable so will do that.
May eat leftover appkr crumble as reward!! Dd would eat due to bits of apple in it she could tell were actually apple - oh my giddy aunt
I think I'll do 15 mins of the admin pile, I rarely use my timer but inspired to start again.
Or may not as just had delivery of some jan sale shopping for me - God feel like naughty housewife but need to have a look and try on while dh not around!! Lol its not the expense that's the issue it's the possible eco lecture I will get.

Hey ho
Sorry for the essay
See yall later 💐🌸💮🏵🏵🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷⚘

THAT90sBITCH · 07/01/2020 13:45

If you were my cup of tea where would you be ? Blush

TooStressyTooMessy · 07/01/2020 14:25

Ive in one of the DC’s rooms if you have been decluttering their clothes? Or did you already drink it?!

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/01/2020 15:24

that it's cold somewhere obscure.by changing mat if you have one?

Tada
Wash up lunch things
Continue feeding and emptying washer and drier/put stuff away
Strip my bed and put in wash
Cleared top blanket box in my room and sorted stuff on it
Halfway down a shelving unit.i had escape, dust was getting down meBlush
Scarily I can see where I've been and just how disgustingly cluttered rest room is

To do
Wash lil zoo swim kit after-school
Make cake k never made other day before bananas ooze their own way to the bin....

ChicCroissant · 07/01/2020 16:38

Yay, just got a cancellation appointment for this week for the minor surgery! Looking forward to getting it sorted out.

Not much done today so far, minor bit of tidying and did attend my GP appointment. I'll count that as self-care for the week, especially when the lump has gone from my hand! Will slow me down for a couple of days at the end of the week so need to have an ironing binge while I can still use it. Needs to be dry for a few days don't stand too close to me

I'VE is the tea in the microwave? I have been known to zap tea that has gone cold, always a surprise when you open the door clutching a cold mug of caffeine to see a previously reheated and forgotten about mug in there already Sad

I need to go and soak DD's sports kit apparently, rainy today and the mud really sticks. I think two pairs of trainers have taken a hit in the mud now, should really look for leather or plastic ones rather than textile Hmm

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/01/2020 18:00

Well I've not made the cake, and lil zoo was pleased to announce this term it's basketball not swimming.

I have remade my bed with little help from dd2(my hands very sore from cleaning)
Took scribbled notes, and have now organised proper food diary and am hoping find time put my scribblings for a journal into an empty hardback notebook I found sorting my room

Talking of my room, bag paper rubbishbag for charity shop of given toiletries I don't use, and start on clothes that don't fit properly or make me feel anything less than comfy

THAT90sBITCH · 07/01/2020 18:18

Cup of tea located ...... in a cupboard. Obviously lost plot today
