Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

We3 that is some list. Also zoo - wow all before waking kiddos. I'm mightily impressed with levels of productivity all round

Sc - yes super speedy hound, but the mix makes him v smart and we'll behaved. Poor thing getting decrepit now though..
School back tomorrow for us so I have twisted arm of ds with promise of aquarium outing to be mega helpful - and she was hooray! Sleep last night not too bad - she was up but I was fierce and told her to get daddy to help.
He is suffering for it today but I don't feel at all bad for this ...

Ta da!

S&s
Yesterday's washing away
Lol
Dishwasher turned around
Dinner in jnstant pot with timer on (from freezer, jm not that good)
Breakfast actually eaten for once by all, tidied away.
Dollies millions of tiny clothes stuffed into bosmx and put away.
My room tidied - plus note in dh pant drawer requesting he keep it that way . (Hmm not well recived)
School prep done - uniforms on hangrs, snacks , forest school , sports kit in bag and waiting by front door. Long claws clipped!

Still to do
Buy bread on way home.
Was hair of raggedy wild child.
Get her to bed early with mindful story to chill out..
Clothes out for me and baby.
Maybe breakfast out on table.

Now fun at aquarium! !! 😊😊😊

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2020 12:15

Rachel I start strong, but tend burn out by lunchtime/mid pmGrin

Stupid timer on boiler/heating has been screaming at me.rang engineers.seens wasn't easy at last boiler check.talked me thru what to do and it wasn't do what meant to.o can literally break anything

Had text case worker,as ASD assessment not complete has to be primary need of ESMH..that rules out both local schools as they primary add.buggety bugger
Need start looking at what else on offer...

ChicCroissant · 06/01/2020 13:15

Afternoon! Done some ironing today to Classic Holby City on the Drama TV channel, I remember the shows that are on at the moment and I'm enjoying them!

Busy week this week, no call from hospital yet about minor surgery appointment (just me being impatient really!) so hoping that doesn't clash with anything when it does come through.

Will make myself a coffee and do some washing up, need to put the ironing away first and do another load of laundry as well. Rainy and grey here today.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2020 13:33

Hope you get the call soon chic ok hate waiting on these things..

Tada
Wash up from lunch
Tidy around cat tree hunting small screw(failed find it)
Pull out sofa under window and clear behind/ under/liberate cat toys
More wash in drier,more on

Debating I have anywhere near the energy left to at least try and make a dent in my room

LaneBoy · 06/01/2020 16:40

Holy crap what a day 😣 just got home. Waiting for DD1 to shower (evidently DH forgot this is the new rule for her after school) and then I’m having the hottest bath I can possibly handle, I feel chilled to the bones it’s so cold out there. Ended up getting a taxi home as I was just completely DONE with the day by then.

ta da
✅took meds at decent time as I took the bottle and some water up with me last night. Although I forgot my other ones (not 100% necessary really but I should take the beta blockers regularly oops)
✅printed off a week’s worth of maths for DS, made a decision on how to do that going forward
✅designed and printed a geography worksheet for DS to do weekly (different countries)
✅searched and ordered a Lego set for DS, got the money from his wallet (xmas money purchase)
✅phoned first preferred nursery on the list to be told they did have places but they were filling up fast so could we visit today? Decided to go straight away so left DS with DSD which meant DH and I could both go. Decided to go ahead.
✅remembered I needed afternoon meds, had to send DH back for them! At least I remembered though, it’s only day 3!)
✅got bus straight to pharmacy to collect my owing meds. Got told they can’t do it because of a supplier issue, and I needed to get the script rewritten to allow for generic/alternative brand (they are strict in this because it’s a controlled drug)
✅walk over to psychiatrist office and debate with receptionist whether it can be done ASAP. She wasn’t very forthcoming and I got a bit tearful due to being so frustrated - I had already had to go back an extra time last week due to the psych writing it wrong, the office is two buses from my house and it’s really exhausting me going back so often especially when it’s fucking cold out!
✅ranted to friends/DH, sat in pub for a while to try and warm up, quiet lunch to myself :o
✅doctors surgery to request DD’s meds, pick up another prescription for her (magic blood test cream) and test form
✅Boots to browse sales stuff and pick up toiletries
✅booked optician appt for tomorrow
✅spoke to facilitators of parenting course we have to do (we can’t see CAMHS otherwise) so we now have start date etc
✅got phone call from psych to say she’d got script done, so bus back there again, collected it, took over to pharmacy and got it (other than 8 they didn’t have so will still need to go back at some point)

So tired now. Not sure how much of the planned stuff I’ll be able to do tonight now - had hoped to sort some toys with the Caglets but I’m now in a lot of pain (cold does not agree with my joints) and we also have all the nursery forms to fill in by tomorrow which has to take priority! DH did the rest of DS’ work with him so we are on track there too.

Debating I have anywhere near the energy left to at least try and make a dent in my room

^ I am having the very same debate with myself Zoo! Think I am losing the battle though. Joint pain really bad and also seem to have flu-like symptoms with it, without the runny nose ifyswim! Perhaps it's the ham sweats Grin. Sorry SN admin such a battle and a nightmare to negotiate btw Flowers

Anyway I have struggled on today:
2 more loads of washing hung up
more laundry on
more decorations put away very carefully (nativity)
cutlery polished for final time thank heavens and put back in canteen
on-line banking
20 mins on PA work
20 mins deleting more e-mails
more laundry sorting
ran them through dw and then took extra dinner and side plates back to office
carried office chairs we used for dining back upstairs
and a hideous hour scrubbing down the kitchen tiles behind stove (dh had fried DD some potatoes in duck fat and some in olive oil yesterday in two of his humunguously large frying pans to compare them apparently Hmm, and it had gone everywhere)
cleaned out one fridge
and cleaned condiments/pestle and mortar/ and all the myriad of vinegars and sauce bottles (and the small tray they stand on) that had become a bit smeary over Christmas and covered in rock salt etc.

Got out the house for second dog walk at lunch time in the sunshine but I was ruddy limping so had to turn back. Hence feel a bit imprisoned. There's so much more to do inside mind you! But that's me kaput for today I think.

Was going to reward myself with an episode of the Crown but DD is already back full of beans! She had a great day seeing her friends at school despite having to confront the dreaded climbing wall this morning first thing. The objective is 20 metres this term Xmas Shock . Made her a tropical fruit salad with last of the Christmas "guest" pineapples and mangoes beloved of Mnsnet Wink and she is now stuck in to some very frightening looking chemical formulas with the two furries fighting for prime position in her lap.

I have come upstairs and seriously the boudoir is so bad it's almost a health hazard. I am really ashamed at the state of it Blush. It was bad before Christmas and even worse now. It will take a week to get it back under control I think (sigh)

Sorry. That was all very very very boring indeed!

Bower that makes sense about Advent! One of the positives of getting older is being able to speak one's mind honestly and not caring so much about what other people think. That's lovely about passing compliments forward!

Hope you got your meds ok Lane. DD has the piano music for Spirited Away and plays it regularly.

Willowhound and speedy hound both sound lovely Willow and Rachael Smile Smile

Some seriously good ta da lists on here everyone! Bloomin' well done! 🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅

Strategicchoring · 06/01/2020 16:45

X post Lane see you got meds but sorry you have to go back again! Good luck with nursery paperwork and hope you warm up! Brew

LaneBoy · 06/01/2020 19:01

I love the music from spirited away! All ghibli TBH.

Zoo glad DS has been accepted as in need does that mean they’ll actually do the EHCP? I forget what stage you are at (I don’t really understand the process yet as I’ve been putting off even attempting it 😬) frustrating about the lack of diagnosis being a barrier, hopefully that will be rectified soon though?!

I’ve been hiding in bed but need to get up now so DH can go to quiz night with his DS/DD. He’s not been for a few weeks.

ta da
✅weighed self (forgot to add that earlier, it was first thing)
✅wrote journal
✅bath
✅actually moisturised for the first time in... errrr?!
✅washed out swimsuit

Everyone very productive today! Hope you're feeling better now sc (and anyone else under the weather, sorry I haven't kept up very well with the thread today!)

I've been working today so haven't done a huge amount of flying. Also managed to trip over and bruise my knee and it's so sore Sad dd is having her usual bedtime strop Hmm ...so all in all I'm ready for the evening now!

(Flying wise I did sort some socks Grin)

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 06/01/2020 19:52

Got in at 5 but the first 30 mins was a write off because youngest has been used to having his boobs at home all day and needed milk straight away to make up for the abandonment 🤣

After that I've washed what feels like 100 dishes and made dinner. Made some tuna pasta for dc lunches while dinner was cooking and packed everyone's lunches and bags for tomorrow. I even remembered to pack some lunch for myself.

Did a load of ironing and 2 loads of washing.

Tidied the toys in the living room and DS3 bedroom after I got sick of asking the dc to do it. I know I make a rod for my own back doing it for them but i needed to start baths so it was quicker just to do it myself.

Tidied the mess I'd left in my own bedroom this morning.

Bathed DS3 and read his story.

Now have my pj's on and I'm going to do some college work.

Should really run the hoover round but tbh I just can't be bothered

rachael12345 · 06/01/2020 20:10

We all love ghibli here too! Though spirited away prob my least favourite. Thr parents turning into pigs makes me queasy.
Can't remember the name of it but the one about the witch in training who runs messages is defo my favourite. V sweet.

Aquarium a fab day out. Baby beside himself with joy (poor thing has bemarely had an outing in his little life - the lot of a second child I spose ) and when he dropped off I could actually be a good mummy and properly chat to dd. Did us all a lot of good. Reconnect before school tomorrow morning. Spirits renewed 😊

Dh less good - he has depression episodes , related to degree - think he's slipping down there again. I have sympathy but im afraid also find it highly irritating . If he would just take some meds ( refuses to despit docs advice) I'm sure he would be fully functioning at an earlier hour of the day and able to get his essays done in time. Gaaa

Anyway if I don't absorb his bad mood, I'm happy and had a great day today. Looking forward to seeing buddies tomorrow for coffee and then tackling my roasting overflowing hot spots. Maybe even a nap when the babe does 😆😆

Decided to eek out a generous beautician voucher xmas gift on 2/3 appts to get nails done. So anticipating looking snazzy and groomed for several weeks to come! ( and regular short breaks away from kiddos! ) 😉😉

Dishes done
Some washing folded if not put away
Bath and hair wash with dd. Clothes out for tomorrow. Time to chill :)

Night all.

Ps I'll bring some croissants tomorrow xx

THAT90sBITCH · 06/01/2020 20:12

Baby ds is definitely starting to be more his usual self. Still coughing a bit but no fever now. Still has rest of antibiotics to finish which are making his nappies lovely 🤮

Have half sorted uniforms for tomorrow inc labelling dc4s things, need to iron a few bits ideally before bed

Have two full baskets of washing to get through. Downstairs is semi tidy, bedrooms aren't too bad except dc4s which looks like something exploded.

LaneBoy · 06/01/2020 20:54

Ugggh antibiotics nappies 🤢🤮

Rachael aquarium trip sounds lovely! We don’t really do anything with Cagletini TBH. Zero energy. I think she would love the aquarium though, might have to arrange a home ed trip and take her. She’s even missed out on tagging along to things for the last year as when DH became unable to work it was easy to leave her at home with him. This is one of the reasons we decided to use her funding for nursery because she’s bored at home a lot.

Refusing to get treatment for depression is not cool. Has he been offered any counselling? Time to Talk should be standard.

Actually managed to get the Caglets to help sort some toys (mostly Cagletini’s stuff. And look who we found rachael :o the film is Kiki’s delivery service, definitely one of my favourites :) (the cat is Jiji)

Oh my giddy aunt, what a day! I don't think I stopped for 12 solid hours.

Ta Das

  • up, washed, dressed, shoes, hair, face
  • Willowhound walked
  • packed lunches made
  • "walk to school" done - very successful
  • our bed stripped and washed
  • 2 hours sorting paperwork so I can do my accounts and tax return
  • dog taken to groomers and collected
  • chicken carcass from yesterday stripped and boiled for stock
  • DS2 taken to next town over to do schoolwork in Costa with NG (Not Girlfriend. No, really).
  • DD and Ds3 taken to dentist and back
  • DS3 taken to bank and for end-of-hols hot chocolate
  • DS2 collected from next town over, NG delivered home, DS2 taken for haircut in village 5 miles the other side of us.
  • parcel posted, cash retrieved, emergency chilis bought in village.
  • DS2's Pit of Despair partially tidied with his help, bed changed, wash put on etc
  • tea made, everyone fed - 3 different kinds each of pasta and sauce smh
  • DS3 bathed
  • our bed remade
  • yoga with DS3 and calming ensuing panic attack because he felt he was getting it "wrong".
  • talked down DD who is panicking about her GCSE mock tomorrow

I am in the bath and then I am going to bed! Will no doubt do it all again tomorrow.

KTCluck · 06/01/2020 21:34

Work day for me today. I’d planned to get up earlier and do some exercise but instead slept in Hmm. I’ve had a lovely goats cheese salad with roasted peppers and herby fried potatoes courtesy of DH for dinner. Dishes are washed. Some fool me loaded the dishwasher last night but forget to set it off so all tonight’s had to be hand washed. Sink is shiny as well as benches and the hob. That’s my lot for today. I WILL get up and exercise tomorrow. Need to shift a chunk of the excess weight before a weekend in Portugal for my friends hen party at the end of March.

Welcome We3kings. I’m also guilty of long posts Blush. Was it you who said about not having a dishwasher? (Can’t scroll back on my phone). I do have one and I still struggle with the shiny sink thing.

Glad baby That is more like himself.

Rachael sounds like you’re flying with the flying!

SC sorry you’re still under the weather. The soup is this one:

www.goodtoknow.co.uk/recipes/spiced-winter-roots-soup

Simple but very tasty despite only being flavoured with the curry paste (I just use powder) and seasoning.

Zoo and Bower I think I need to take a leaf out of your book with the complimenting. It can make a huge difference to how someone feels. Well done for sticking up for that lady Bower. I’m guilty of often just nodding along with someone in situations like that even when I disagree, and I really need to stop.

Foxes hope DD’s bedtime strop wasn’t too trying. My DD is also a fan of the before bed tantrum. Thankfully she went down easily tonight.

Lane your day sounds exhausting. You’ve achieved loads and thanks for still manage to lead the thread.

Thanks for that link Expletive. Will read it now

Cheery waves to Willow Chic Hazel Too and anyone I’ve missed (sorry!)

OhMsBeliever · 06/01/2020 23:08

I have done nothing really. I built some furniture yesterday. To put in my understairs cupboard. But I should have cleared the cupboard out first as I now have a storage unit in the middle of the living room.

My lovely 17 year old did all the washing up without me having to nag. I have 5 boys and they do it in turn, which usually involves me nagging.

Did one load of washing out of the billions of clothes around the house.

Bowerbird5 · 07/01/2020 00:23

Goodness lots of flying going on here. I heard the helicopter last night I thought it was Mountain Rescue but I think it was you lot.

Zoo I quite agree perhaps you and I will have that as a NY Resolution!

DH was hungry while we were out today so he wanted to stop for some lunch. When the waitress brought the drinks and said “Earl Grey tea?” I said “ Yes, oh good lass you’ve brought some lemon slices.” She gave me a big smile. DH told me afterwards that he had remember to ask for some. She was pleased anyway so yes I think that will be NYR. I will aim for 1 a week( I don’t go out much.)

I wish I had a furry. We have DD cat at the moment. I niggled at DH the other night when I found some Cocker Spaniel pups for sale. 9 pictures of them and then found a really cute one of 11 weeks. I’ve told him I am getting one when I retire. He doesn’t want a dog. I am thinking of retiring soon.

Willow that was like a marathon. Loving💕 the NG 🥰. You’ll fit in well here with that sense of humour.

Lane aren’t some receptionists a pain. Do they realise you need to catch two buses to go there? The nearest Chemist to me does a delivery service for regular meds. I wonder if there is any in your area. Worth asking.

SC sounds like the virus BF had. Lasted three weeks. She looks much better.

Ta Das
Went to Tesco to have BF given phone unlocked. Didn’t work. Girl very helpful. Had to go to EE. Grabbed a basket of shopping.
Went to nearby wholesaler opened to the public and cafe. It is one of two places the farmers go for meat so excellent quality. DH hungry so went to cafe. He had a big bowl of soup and a large sandwich on chunky bread and salad for £5.95 I had salad, crisps and steak with onions on a flat bread. It should have had cheese and chilli sauce on but I asked without. £5.95. We were so full we didn’t have supper until 9:30pm and had a lamb chop with left over mash fried and I had an egg because the fried pots just asked for it.

EE sorted a now I have a new phone. A bit more than I wanted to pay but we need 4g here and even that is patchy. Ended up staying on contract because it seems worth it but will check again in three months.

As I was on a lol and it wasn’t busy in town I went to make an appointment for my eyes. Bumped into a little lass that used to be at our school but moved a year ago so lovely to EE her and I think she was pleased to see me too. Had a catch up and then let her get back to her friends.
Then went to the bank as standing order hadn’t shown on mortgage account thought I was going do lally. I was right though so need to check tomorrow.

So lots of important things covered in 2hrs free parking.
Came home had a up of tea and a mince pie.

Took down all the decs and wrapped and put them away. The sitting room looks bigger which is good as it is small.

Supper.

Bed

LaneBoy · 07/01/2020 00:29

Hi OhMs!

Bower it’s because the psychiatrist is two buses away. And due to the psych messing up the prescription last week I ended up having to go back, and trying the local one there. Then because I’d already had half my prescription filled they wouldn’t let me take it back to try a different more convenient pharmacy! Thankfully the final visit can wait a while and after that hopefully they’ll write them correctly and I can just take to town. Not sure about delivery as it’s a controlled drug, it’s kept locked up and nobody else can collect it for me, I have to have ID etc.

ta da
✅moved laundry on (virtually caught up now so hoping we can put it away tomorrow :o
✅made DD shower
✅got Caglets helping toy sorting (sooo many boxes of random stuff)
✅designed (with DH) another worksheet for DS
✅completed forms for nursery

Absolutely shattered now! Really pleased we got so much done today though especially considering the unexpected nursery visit and the pharmacy issues. Normally that would throw me completely.

Welcome we3 sounds like you have been busy, especially for starting out (I'm not very good at the daily stuff, but try to catch up on my days off)

SC I also have a dachshund (short haired), I had to take her to the vet today though as she likes to jump off DDs bed and hurt herself.

lane I'm in the USA now. I was born and raised in UK, met DH and the rest is history! Been here almost 14 years now, but all my family are still back home (UK).

Ta Das;

-Took dog to vet (dropped her off before work, picked up at lunchtime), car broke down on way to pick her up, got it running again, but still had DH come meet me and check it out. Still clueless as to why the engine just stopped!

  • went back to work to finish out my day.
  • warmed up leftover broccoli cheddar soup I made yesterday for easy dinner.

I'm now relaxing on the couch, thinking I might take a bath as watched a movie last night instead of a relaxing bath, so ended up taking a quick shower instead.

Hello to everyone else I have missed, you have all been really busy!

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/01/2020 05:45

Morning
If he made that greasy mes in my kitchen he would be scrubbing it offSC.I feel rage on your behalf!!Angry
Willow fab list!
Lane what a palaver with meds, glad sorted now tho
Rachel we love kikis delivery service too!

That glad he's on the mend.i can only imagine the state of his nappies...
Oh building furniture still counts as productive
Foxes sorting socks is bane of my existence.im try convince D's he can do it not going well
Bower dd1 pup has changed her life forever.hes barmy as a box of frogs and drives her potty but the love he brings us double the trouble he causes

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/01/2020 05:47

Dohhazel(how did I forget you when was last thing I read!!)is the soup good?

HungryHazelEyes · 07/01/2020 06:01

Yes zoo I love it, although I may be biased as it's my own recipe lol! I usually start with a recipe I find and modify it to make it my own. It's a low carb recipe (I'm doing LCHF/ keto, but I'm not as strict as I should be with ingredients to say I'm fully keto). I think it ends up slightly different every time I make it, but it's one of DSs faves.

Bowerbird5 · 07/01/2020 06:17

Morning. I see there is a few night owls and lark fledglings.

Plan for today.
To put all the Dec boxes in the loft. To clearing dining table( hot spot) and vacuum dining room.

To stop writing such long posts.
To stop drinking gin and then to stop writing such long posts 🤪
