Fledglings flying into the Roaring Twenties! January 2020 Flylady thread, all welcome.

Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

ta da
✅started a little more sorting but most will have to wait until tomorrow. I do feel good knowing what the plan is
✅swam 500m, may be a little too far for my useless body (I was doing 400m) so we shall see how I am tomorrow! Feel SOOOOO much better mentally though. The stress building up just vanished.

Watching more masked singer.

Seems I have a control journal already - i keep a book with xmas's at one end - gifts and cards given and reccived, food sometimes. Birthdays or other parties/events at the other end - who was invited/ came, food drinks, gifts.
But have slipped in keeping up with it of late due to lack of sleep... bit it's v nice to look back through, generally all happy memories.

Strategicchoring · 05/01/2020 20:53

And whey hey ... dd has just this minute delivered all of her laundry down to the wash room....!!! Better late than never! Fortunately, she has enough clean to see her through tomorrow ... don't have to start washing now!

rachael12345 · 05/01/2020 20:55

BTW I'm loving all this chat about the daily minutiae. It's good to hear!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 05/01/2020 21:35

Hi all I have been lurking since NYD. Not sure I'm actually doing flylady still need to get my head around it all but just looking at it has got me started doing something.

I have 4dc do 3 days at college and 2 days at work. While I was on maternity leave with ds4 I was on top of the house but since going back it's all gone pair shaped.

So my ta-da's for today
Massive declutter of kitchen cupboards, drawers and worktops - it's the biggest room in the house and just becomes a dumping ground for all sorts. About 5 bags chucked, 1 bag for charity shop, a small back for food bank and a couple of things to return to my DGM.
Cleaned oven and hob
Cleaned all of the unit doors in kitchen (well the bottom ones the top ones are dark and hide the dirt well 🤣)
Cleaned extractor and filters
Washed dishes as I went (leaving a shiny sink)
2 loads of washing
Some ironing
Cleaned all windows, mirrors and other glass
Polished whole house
Hoovered whole house
Cleaned dining table and high chair
Mopped downstairs
Changes all the beds
Quick clean of bathroom

Must admit I did all of it in my PJ's though so no dressing to my shoes today.

Have finished up doing homework/reading with dc and made sure bags/PE stuff etc are ready for tomorrow

Made lunches for tomorrow.

Made jelly for dc pudding for tomorrow.

Still to do is
Biology assignment
Make my lunch (always make everyone else's and forget my own 🙄)
Start my control journal. I'm so excited for this I have books and books of lists they're my thing.

Everyone is back to work/college/school here tomorrow so 🤞 I can keep it up.

Sorry for the length of this post I promise they won't all be this long

HungryHazelEyes · 05/01/2020 21:46

Ta Das so far today (2:40pm);

  • 2 loads laundry done.
  • DH lunch casserole made for the week (DH helped).
  • cooked bacon for DD.
  • cleaned up kitchen again.

To Dos.

  • go to Costco (on way now), realised this morning almost out of laundry detergent and fabric softener.
  • pick up DD from friends.
  • shred cheese for the week.
  • make dinner.

This just popped up on my FB, obviously trying to tell me something.....

WOW! That took a bit of reading.

Welcome We3

So I went to Mass so lovely to Wish people Happy New Year though I did go on New YearsDay as well. I do love my church family. Majority are so caring. Last week an older lady(older than me) complained about a young mum being miserable. Her husband and his family are well known and chatty. I turned around and said to the lady, “Oh no she is just quiet, she is a lovely girl.” She started to say something negative and I stopped her and said “She is quiet shy actually” the woman stopped and looked at me and then apologised. She admitted perhaps she had her wrong, she smiled at me and I thought -good I hope I have changed your mind. It is funny how some people jump to their own conclusion. I felt pleased I had jumped to this young mums defence and changed the woman’s mind.😊 lots of the other people just want to help and support people and are so kind. We have tea and coffee afterwards and often people are staying for half an hour to an hour after so we are just like a big family as lots are regulars.

Came home to find DH still on sofa not feeling well. No lunch. Went to quickly make a sandwich but thought bread was an odd texture. DH had bought gluten free. He said it was all they had at the Co op. We went to three shops for bloody seafood why not go somewhere else. I am sorry for people that have to eat it but nope I couldn’t go there. Nipped up as BF wanted to see me. They were full of banter and new baby photos of the growing GC.
Then I was off to pick up the girls for choir. It was lovely to see them and they were pleased to get a big hug on the station.
Lots of music to put back and some lovely new pieces to learn. I always feel a bit sad at sending the Christmas music back. We sang one we know most of and brushed up on it and then started a new gospel one. It is for a local comp. we put in for the Northern Counties comp. but so many choirs applied that they have turned us down this year.
I made surprise veg pasta for tea. Anything that needed used up out of the fridge. Luckily it was long red peppers, mushroomsx3, a courgette, an onion and a couple of tomatoes. Not enough tomatoes so I added a jar of tomato and basil. It was delicious. DH eventually came through( the cat was asleep on him)🙄 and then the person that was feeling ill devoured two bowls. Hmmm!

Tomorrow I am taking all the decs down. I discovered why I was confused about this. Apparently lots of people are. The Catholic calendar is tomorrow night😀is Twelfth Night! Yeah. I was too busy today. I perhaps should have done it yesterday. Not in journal.
I know they look lovely but I wonder if it isn’t a lot of time wasted making them beautiful and repeating all the bullet pointed bits. I just write what I want to achieve and then tick off what I get down. I stopped doing it but think I will go back. Mine doesn’t have the date so you can stop start and put your own dates in. It is A5 so will go in my larger handbag for shopping. Otherwise I use a shopping list. Magnetic on the fridge.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2020 05:15

Morning all
Similar scenario with dd2 here

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2020 05:16

Strategicchoring · 06/01/2020 05:48

Morning Zoo .
Good luck to dd2 with her Spanish exam today!
(DD received a text last night saying her French exam has been delayed; so she's had a lucky escape!)

A warm welcome to We3kings and congrats on yesterday's mega-list!

Good luck to everyone heading back to work and school today Brew especially That's ds and Lane's DD!

Hope the sleep-deprived had a better night!

(I am still having temp control issues and aching limbs.)

Bower I am equally confused by Catholic Twelfth Night thing and continue to be every year!

Hazel hope your dh in better mood today! Prime rib sounds yum!

As does your curried swede, parsnip and carrot soup KTCluck is it from a particular recipe (just asking as I happen to have all those veg to use up!).

Rachael hope your DD is feeling better and sorry I always ask about furries on here because I'm a bit of a dog/animal nut and I'm nosy I like to picture who has what! We used to have pointers when I was young, and springer types are totally gorgeous! Sounds like a speedy combo! We have long haired sausages. Grin

Looking forward to reclaiming my kitchen (such as it is) from dh after the holidays today! First need to give it a thorough tidy and scrub!

Strategicchoring · 06/01/2020 05:57

Chic forgot to say, hope your appt comes through from hosp at convenient time!

Zoo forgot to reply to your question - have Oestrogel - but it doesn't seem to be helping much with joint pain. The thing is, I feel fluey with it, but don't know if that's because of virus or menopause! Need to go to gp! Hope your shoulder feels better soon!

Expletive that list is very apt and rather helpful!

👋🍒🍒🍒👋👋👋👋 to all!

Have a productive start to the week everyone!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 06/01/2020 07:23

Morning all, on my phone so will have to namecheck from memory! Welcome We3kings, that's a huge amount achieved there. Brilliant start, but be careful not to burn out. Rachael, hope your DD slept better last night and that, trust the baby is happier. Sc, zoo, Lane, KT, good luck getting everyone back to school / starting HE again. Mog, hello! Bower, so lovely you have your church family too. Hazel, hope your DH has recovered his equilibrium.

Back on our heads this morning. Barely time to breathe with all the stuff on the list today, so I'll finish my coffee and get on with it - until 7.30 is My Time.

To Dos

  • washed and dressed to shoes, hair and face
  • walk Willowhound
  • rotate Dw
  • put first wash on
  • S&S bathrooms
  • make bed!
  • make lunches
  • "walk" DS3 to school (new thing - quick walk round the block to start his day and change hats)
  • family finance update
  • business accounts to 5 April 19 and my tax return
  • send DS1 out on driving lesson
  • dentist with smallest two at 2pm
  • haircut for DS2 at 4.30
  • post Amazon parcel for DH while DS2 has haircut
  • Latin lesson or Comp Sci revision with DD at 5.30
  • pasta and sauce for tea
  • collapse in heap!

Must also poke DS2 until he does some washing or he's going to school without pants tomorrow Envy.

Hey ho. Big list. Big wing flaps all round, see you all later!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 06/01/2020 08:25

So failed on the shiny sink thing yesterday and left a couple of dishes in the sink. Sorted them this morning and got it all shiny again only to start on breakfasts for dc so more dishes in there. I really should have planned to have a dishwasher when we had the kitchen fitted 😫

Got a wash on.
Did 2 loads of ironing
Swish and swiped (think that's the correct term 🤣) this is actually something that I've always done (needs must with 5 males in the house 🙄)

This knocked me back a bit time wise so I didn't have time to do my face properly or straighten my hair but I'm presentable enough for a day at college.

Hope everyone has a lovely day. I'm actually looking forward to having some routine back.

THAT90sBITCH · 06/01/2020 08:27

LaneBoy · 06/01/2020 08:55

LAUNCH PAD

Today’s focus is the Home Blessing or as it is known here, the Home Bleugh! I really need to figure out my own version I think.

Ooh yes sc Spirited Away was the first anime I watched. Love it! I have a giant cuddly No Face :o (although I do need to reattach his arm). Long haired sausage :o I do love dachshunds.

Rachael daily minutiae is what we thrive on here! :o Nice to feel a sense of achievement for all that stuff, and to share it :o

Welcome we3kings long posts always welcome! And a huge list in pyjamas is better than getting dressed and then doing nothing :o

Hazel I keep forgetting to ask where you are in the world? I think I missed it if you said in a previous thread.

Thank you for the link expletive I have added it to my many open browser tabs which have started to build up again Blush but it does look useful so I must read it!

Bower well done for defending that lady. That’s the sort of thing I’d do in my head but never be brave enough for. Lovely that it was well received too!

Willow I love the walk idea. I’ve been wondering about having a daily walk, far too many days we are all stuck indoors. My New Year’s resolution is to get out of the house every day (realised late December I’d literally not got further than the front pavement for an entire week!) which so far I’ve done. Once I’ve become used to that I’ll include the others (I’ve learned last year that I really need to work on changing myself first). DS does have more home ed clubs now though so getting him out will be easier going forward.

Good luck also to zoo that foxes mog and anyone else I have missed! Shock to the system for sure.

I should get up soon. At least I’m awake I suppose. Didn’t actually see DD this morning Blush she got up and I presume DH woke up enough to assemble the last bits of her lunch. I brought my meds upstairs so I can take them as soon as I’m awake. Still hit the snooze button a couple of times though!

I wrote a to do list on paper last night and then realised I had left a large task off it - I need to go get my meds. Due to the prescription error this ended up having to be at a pharmacy two buses away, although I might walk one of the outward sections depending on weather. I then need to go to Boots for various things on the way back.

Right. Breakfast, update my list, then crack on I suppose! Cherry waves!

TooStressyTooMessy · 06/01/2020 09:34

Welcome we3 Smile.

Back to school for us today too. So I am in town doing all the bits that are much easier without DC! Currently in post office queue. Possibly do glass recycling later but maybe tomorrow .

Bowerbird5 · 06/01/2020 10:55

Whoops! Sorry last nights post was so long must have been the gin. I was sampling some of my Christmas gin. BF bought me a present of gorgeous gloves and two mini gins so I had one of those rhubarb and raspberry and an spiced apple one.

Lane I used to say nothing and then think of something later and wish I could say it. Getting older I find I speak up more about things like that. I also decide last year to tell people other things. I complemented a lady in an arty cafe. She was with mum or mil and DH I think. She had a lovely dress on and looked so pretty in it. It really suited her. As we got up to go and she had Ben left at the table I stopped and told her how lovely she looked in that dress. She was quite taken a back but I think it made her day. I was pleased I had said it. She would have been in her forties. It came about when someone on the station said “ Cool trousers.” It made my day and I thought I bet she got a shock when I turned around. I think she expected someone younger. I thanked her and told her where I got them as she went on her way. I thought that day people don’t compliment others enough so I have started to do it.

Right I need to crack on.

SC I found out on the internet that it is because we have Advent until Christmas Day and count the days after to make Twelfth Night.

It is a horrible windy wet day here.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/01/2020 11:42

bower my tongue is getting looser as I get older,I say my mind a bit these days.i love to compliment strangers-check out girls on fancy nails,a nice scent etc.we need be kinder to each other!

Willow love idea a walk to start HE,hope was more client on your walk with willowhound than here
Foxes/stressy hope today is fruitful without "little helpers"
That nice work on dry run for tom, hope little that is on the mend now
3kings productive is what counts, not what you are wearing/not wearing!
