Swish through September 2019 with the fledglings - Flylady thread

Let's swish and swipe our way through September, decluttering as we go with the Flylady! We have a mix of old and new fledglings and everyone is welcome to join us for chat and motivation. Thanks to Stressy for running a fabulous August thread!

The Flylady Launch Pad is the place to start each day - each week focuses on a different zone of the house to clean if you have decluttered it first (can't clean clutter) and you can also follow the Babysteps if you'd like to introduce one new element each day and build on that.

If you like to plan in advance, the weekly Sneak Peek will give you advance notice of the missions and zone coming up, it changes each weekend.

The monthly focus for September is making the bed.

Hi sc nice to 'meet' you Grin

Sounds like a dramatic day zoo

Tada

All beds remade
Tea made which everyone enjoyed yay me !!
Realised that dd1 is out of shirts so another was has been put in Hmm
Kids have done a bit of homework and are at dancing / football
Dd2 is tucked up in bed

Cuppa whilst watching England , aiming to have an earlyish night because I've been yawning all afternoon, haven't quite settled back into the school routine yet !

Has anyone got any book recommendations ? I am nearing the end of my book , I don't think my brain will let me read a complicated storyline at the moment so I'm looking for something light hearted.

ChicCroissant · 10/09/2019 21:07

Just going to post the links early tonight as I might go to bed soon - slightly less than 100 per cent today although not too bad tmi

Launch Pad with links to flight plan and missions and Babystep for the day Current zone is the Kitchen

Hello all, have been AWOL today and not quite caught up with the thread. Lovely to see you back SC and thanks for offer to do October. Big wing flaps to everyone else.

TooStressyTooMessy · 10/09/2019 22:04

Hope you feel better soon Chic

Bowerbird5 · 10/09/2019 22:54

Thanks Chic. I will get rid of my fruit lingering in the 🍈 fruit bowl and have it with a gin after school and meeting as it will be well after 5pm when I get home. SC you may not know but I have an old clock ( broken) in the summer house that always says 5pm.🤗
Damn shame about Dee horse. Hogging sometimes means it doesn’t grow back the same just to warn you but you might want to if he has made such a hash.

Power of three
Swept path and weed outside wall.
Did another load of washing. Forgot about first load and it was nearly darkened on.
Watered house plants.

Washed up
Bed made
Basket sorted.

Cat and I fell asleep this after noon . Had to put fire on for a while as chilly. Damn I have left hot plate on hot.
Clothes out on Everhot ready for tomorrow.

Zoo that is awful.

Night night

Tidyhomewannabe · 11/09/2019 08:20

Dd2 isn't at nursery today (she starts the full 5 mornings a week from tomorrow!!) so we don't have to set off for ds school until 850. Setting a 15 min timer to see how much of the morning routine I can get done before asking / nagging the kids to get ready Grin

Hope everyone has a lovely day Thanks

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2019 08:37

ChicCroissant · 11/09/2019 09:09

I am loving the permanent five o'clock in the summerhouse, Bower Grin Gin

I am feeling better, thanks. I think this may be another joy of being a woman of a certain age, just need to drink lots of water and not move too far from the bathroom. It has certainly improved overnight. A day at home doing admin is probably long overdue, I only realised this morning that my car tax was overdue and did it quickly online Blush

Just weighing up the breakfast options myself zoo, I'm not that fond of icing so the french fancies are out for me, thanks. Sorry to hear about the accident yesterday, that can be upsetting for children and I hope the teacher can help with extra tuition or at least pointing you in the direction of help. I am useless at glossing woodwork drips so best of British with that one too.

Waves to tidy and stressy and goes off in search of breakfast ...

chic I'm getting a bit old for icing(and lots sweet things )I fear.if we are talking "plumbing" issues, that's deffo age related.Flowers
In my healthy eating quest (and CBA to chop and freeze excess spinach) I made these bad boys for after school...have I officially gone crazy??

Swish through September 2019 with the fledglings - Flylady thread
Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2019 12:42

Oh and tada..
Glossing done stinking out house as realised can't shut living to kitchen door.oophs

Reviewed other school subject matter for D's age group online.as tactonic plates/volcanoes came up common theme I started prep school plans based around that, incl a video found on u tube to help him mark plates onto a world map and info on pioneers of plate tectonics very rock and roll
Also looking at EP topics of what makes us human and how do we know what is real..I feel like I should be sitting in a field in summer chewing crazy mushrooms trying to work out how to teach those!!

DS and dad be back very soon.hoping someone's brave stupid enough to try the cakes!

To do
Looking and English and maths options and bit time with D's
Lil zoo walking home with dd2 tonight as dd2 friend does eco council so there will be no hanging around for ages or walking home at snails pace so no pick up for me today!(given paint fumes not sure that's a good or bad thing!!)

Lisette1940 · 11/09/2019 13:53

Didn't realise age related plumbing issues was a thing. Have already discovered falling alcohol tolerance but heigh ho!

Ds has asthma check yesterday so we are withdrawing one med and possibly adding a brown inhaler. Twitchy until i know how he reacts. Haircut for him at 3, home then dinner and soccer and then shopping arrives 7-8.

No other flying done today as working this morning and chilling this afternoon for a change.

ChicCroissant · 11/09/2019 19:13

It is plumbing related! I had the same recently, and (slightly too much information so look away now) passed another sample in for testing which showed blood but no infection Hmm The GP rang me and said they would send it for culture, but if it came back negative then they needed to look at why the blood was present. No appointment mind, so I'm not sure how that will happen Confused Hoping the results will be back tomorrow or Friday. I do feel better today, things seem to be calming down a lot. I'll stop with the way-too-much-information now, but will stay near the facilities!

DD seems to be enjoying school so far, but it's only been a week. After I dropped her off on the first day I went shopping and they were putting the Christmas stuff out in the supermarket Angry I love Christmas but it's too early.

I had a brown inhaler (preventer) for a bit and it worked well, Lisette I noticed I needed the blue (reliever) a lot less. Mine is mainly exercise-induced and very rarely bothers me because I very rarely exercise but I needed them when I did a lot of running.

Better start the evening routine, wash up and do some ironing. I will be back with the links later.

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2019 19:59

DS has a brown one and uses blue prior to exercise and he's much better(touches wood)
Think lil zoo is next.she gets tight chest when runs and was given a blue but told gets worse when cold weather comes will need a brown one

Dinner- lamb grills, couscous with herbs and green beans.fruit

Practised bun for lil zoo ballet trial tomorrow.does anyone have a recommendation for u tube for ballet buns?there's bloody hundreds and I've no idea what I'm doing!!(looks around hopefully)
Luckily D's has long hair so I can practise in the day tomorrow!!

ChicCroissant · 11/09/2019 20:27

Have you got a bun net or a hairnet? Because they can really hold it together with lots of pins. I do something similar to this one although DD's looks a lot less neat when I do it.

It should be a flat bun, mine look more like doorknobs, too bulky Blush

OP posts:
TooStressyTooMessy · 11/09/2019 20:35

Hi all, hope you are feeling better Chic.

No flying today as at work. Trying to organise a birthday day out think for DH and wish I had never had the idea as figuring out what friends and their children want to do is like herding cats.

zoo, hope you’ve all had a better day today. How long and thick is lilzoo’s hair? I liked a turorial by the CBBC’s icicles on YouTube for ballet buns but it was for long, thick hair and didn’t really work for us in practice.

As Chic says, accessories really help. We use a hair donut and hairspray then hairpins. How strict is the ballet school re. hair?

If you tell us a bit more about her hair we can try to help. Can you get to a shop for a bun net or similar or is that unrealistic? For tomorrow I would just attempt something and hair spray or gel it.

Best for long thick hair

ChicCroissant · 11/09/2019 23:16

Good evening fledglings! Not much flying today but I am feeling better, long may it continue. No excuses tomorrow.

Links for Thursday - Launch Pad with links to the missions, zone work (kitchen this week) and the flight plan for the day, and the link to the Babystep which is deleting the Flylady emails regularly.

Sleep well, fledglings - I'll be back tomorrow morning.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/09/2019 05:40

Thanks guys!it's very thick and comes halfway down her back
I'm told next weeks trial they are"very particular about neat hair" an suspect the same of today's one.eeeek.wherecan I bits hairnet from?(starts to panic slightly)

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/09/2019 05:41

Buy not bits.bloody phone!!

TooStressyTooMessy · 12/09/2019 06:08

Quick reply as getting ready for work!

Depends where you are near to get the stuff and how many shops DS could tolerate going with you today.

For future reference you could try Amazon but that won’t help today as I assume it wouldn’t get there in time.

I have found hair stuff like that in chemists, Boots, big supermarkets and dancewear shops. The trouble is that it seems to be luck whether the shops actually sell what you want! If the dance shop is nearest I would go there and beg for their help! If the supermarket or Boots type place is nearest then I would try there first. Hairdressers might sell stuff. You could always telephone places first to ask what they have or if you are on Facebook put a post up on one of the local pages. Don’t forget to buy hairspray or gel if you don’t already have any and hair grips which you should be able to get in any of those places.

Must go, hopefully someone else will be on with better advice!

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/09/2019 06:23

When DD used to dance I used spiral pins for her buns, they screw in, but cost ££ in Boots (much cheaper in Primark). I only used nets for exams and shows, but got them in Superdrug. Our school did not like donuts, you could use a small one to bulk out short hair slightly but you were meant to disguise it, not have an obvious donut shaped bun. Bun level with top of ears.

Solitarycaddis · 12/09/2019 07:36

Just putting in my penny's worth about hair buns. Was bane of my life at one point when dd danced seriously. Seriously stressful. Her dance school was very particular about it too - no donuts allowed - and we (me) had a dressing down from "Madame" about my first five or six efforts I think as they kept coming undone. Dd's hair totally straight and heavy which doesn't help. What I am trying to say is Zoo don't worry about it as it will become second nature after time. I'm crap at plaiting (which you are not) and I started off totally hesitant and cack-handed and couldn't get the hang of it all, was a source of stress to say the least as DD was embarrassed by my efforts! Took me twenty minutes to begin with. After doing it three/four times a week for years you just don't think about it; I could eventually construct a perfect regulation bun with minimal pins and spray, standing on one leg, while frying an egg, reading Shakespeare sonnets, etc etc! Grin. (And in last minute situations literally in the car while DD eating picnic tea.) And you being much more skilled at plaits etc will find it much easier than I did! And then comes the glorious day around the age of 12/13 yrs when your offspring can - yay - do their own perfect bun while you sit back and drink gin in peace Grin

[Can you tell I am traumatised by the entire experience and don't start me on sewing ribbons on pointe shoes... . ]

Confused
Solitarycaddis · 12/09/2019 07:39

Most importantly forgot to say hope LilZoo has fantastic time!!!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/09/2019 07:39

Thanks guys!!we have a small boots locally.i will try there if Asda has none!!she has no end of curly mini tendrils so it's never going to be fab on first attempts, but I'm sure they will tell me if it's not good enough
