Swish through September 2019 with the fledglings - Flylady thread

Let's swish and swipe our way through September, decluttering as we go with the Flylady! We have a mix of old and new fledglings and everyone is welcome to join us for chat and motivation. Thanks to Stressy for running a fabulous August thread!

The Flylady Launch Pad is the place to start each day - each week focuses on a different zone of the house to clean if you have decluttered it first (can't clean clutter) and you can also follow the Babysteps if you'd like to introduce one new element each day and build on that.

If you like to plan in advance, the weekly Sneak Peek will give you advance notice of the missions and zone coming up, it changes each weekend.

The monthly focus for September is making the bed.

Nah it was in the summer Chic but thank you! Smile. (I made a coffee & walnut cake to celebrate! Living life on the edge)

Zoo longevity of marriage is entirely down to dh's patience & kindness (genuinely). I know I complain endlessly on here about his messiness (and boy is he messy) but he's always very positive and optimistic/tries hard whatever life throws at him whereas I whinge too much! I hear you re: kitchen storage. Same here. I am refusing to buy any more tins or jars until we have eaten our way through stores so we have more cupboard space. And yay to stout boots! Grin

Thanks I've I get mixed up with what age = what year in UK because they start formal education later here (at 6 yrs) and secondary starts at 12 yrs not at eleven. Could you check in with the form teacher about your ds1 and hwk? How is he enjoying his new school btw? It's a big change.

TooStressyTooMessy · 29/09/2019 16:47

Jeans and T shirts all the way here. Or activewear Grin. I have a uniform for work when seeing patients and when I don’t have to wear uniform at work almost anything goes (one of those things where you can tell at a glance who is the most senior / experienced- they are the ones with the ripped jeans, trainers and T shirt / woolly jumper Grin). We are not seeing patients on those days and being able to wear what we want is a massive perk of the job.

Tidyhomewannabe · 29/09/2019 17:29

Happy anniversary sc ! Have you got anything planned to celebrate your survival?

Chic the knowledge organisers are a good idea in some ways but they only have key points on them, so if you don't fully understand it, you may have memorised what they've asked of you, but in an exam if they ask a question worded in a different way, they won't have enough understanding to answer the question. Also with English literature, I was always taught that if you could back up your opinion with evidence and quotations to show why you came to that conclusion, you wouldn't get the question wrong. Now they can't really form their own opinion on text, they just learn what the examiners want to see. I could rant on for days on this haha

Tada
Paperwork is sorted !! I have a footstool with all current stuff labelled and organised into envelope wallets, I still have boxes in the dining room but all sorted through and labelled ready to go in the loft after I've sorted through more paperwork that's hiding underneath the bed and on the kitchen side Blush once it's all sorted, the boxes will go into the loft and only current stuff will be downstairs!
Tidied and hoovered living room
Dd2 bathed

To do
Sort some tea
Double check school stuff for tomorrow

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/09/2019 18:38

tidy/chic are these academies ?ds had endless sheets but no text book/exercise books, whereas the girls are drowning in books(recent change to academy)..dd2 has to form opinions on literature based on facts she has to find.

Squash and loo roll gate averted(but I got half drowned) I've put fire on to dry out...

More wash in dryer, more in machine and I still have three more loads(minimum )to break even.i swear I must be doing laundry for other families!!

Talking of other families I saw neighbour with granddaughter being bullied as I was head out for supplies(wasn't raining then)the boys older sister has now got year 10 girls on look out to threaten her,he's had a male friend by throat in changing rooms saying he will get her regardless who she's with.school aren't doing much, police nothing either as "she's not suffered substantial harm"FFShave been advised take hedge down from 5ft to 3 so he has no hiding spots(I said when we get a dry spell I can sort that for her)poos granddaughters spent weekend away with family terrified to go out as he knows where she lives so even if changes school she won't feel "safe" they've fitted one of those doorbells that can see who is outside so can see if he's out there but there's literally nothing else they can do at present...heartbreaking and frustrating

ChicCroissant · 29/09/2019 19:04

It is an academy zoo, but a single one (not part of a chain).

Tidy it's the same format by the sound of it. Last year the school asked them to read for 20 mins a night because a study said this increased GCSE grades although it seems to have been dropped in favour of a new scheme that they haven't told us about but seem to be planning to bill us for I await the letter. They are not the best at communicating with parents IMO.

zoo that is dreadful about the girl next door, they must both be terrified. How far does it have to go before any action will be taken?

chic that's what worries me/her nan.are they waiting til she gets sexually assaulted or beaten up?she was 11 in July bless her.she shouldn't have to put up with it.hoping social services do something, but not got hopes up

Lol zoo in bed reading,ds doing his nightly routine I'm just about eat red pepper and chorizo veggie sausages, roasted squash, red onion, broccoli, mushrooms and green beans with a little cheesy pasta.gotta love comfort food on a wet miserable night!!

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/09/2019 20:09

That is disgusting. How can they just leave it til something worse happens! Poor girl

All dc bathed and ready for bed 🥳

TooStressyTooMessy · 29/09/2019 20:21

zoo that is so terrible. I don’t know if they advise on police matters but could she go to citizens advice?

LivingInLaputa · 29/09/2019 20:24

Schools can be useless about bullying. Our other nearest school I’m not even looking at because of various things I’ve found out about them not dealing with it. I even heard some girls talking about a sexual assault that the school refused to accept happened.

Still full of cold. Really dreading the next two days as DH has meetings both evenings and we have so much to do including a second look at the school.

Tidyhomewannabe · 29/09/2019 20:49

Yes an academy zoo, they must all use a similar format because dd is the same with reading too, although they haven't mentioned it's changed. I feel like a bad parent because I encourage her to make it up on the nights that she has dance late because she just can't fit it in without going to bed late, so she reads extra on the evenings she has time and usually a marathon reading session at the weekend Blush

Zoo that's absolutely horrendous regarding the bullying issue , how sad that the school and police don't take bullying seriously! I think anything that intentionally damages someone else's mental health should be classed as abuse. Everyone has crossed words with people at times, even say things that they don't mean, but for it to be constant , should say that they are acting intimidatingly and should be dealt with seriously . Poor kid !

Ta da
Kids are all upstairs! Dd2 & ds are asleep, dd1 is reading.
Load of washing in ( I wasn't very organised today with doing paperwork but thought I better pop a load in before the washing pile grows out of control!)
Folded dry bits off the radiators
Ironed any uniform that was dry whilst dd read to me

Oh has bought me a grab bag of minstrels (yay for me, boo for my waistline) so I'm going to pop my feet up with a cuppa and tuck in. PMT is starting so I think he's trying to stay in my good books so I don't snap at him every 5 minutes Wink

I hope you feel better tomorrow laputa Brew

Tidyhomewannabe · 29/09/2019 20:52

Yes an academy zoo, they must all use
was meant to be :
Yes an academy zoo, chic they must all use..........
I must remember to read what I've typed before hitting the post button Hmm

Solitarycaddis · 29/09/2019 21:11

That poor girl Zoo. I know they are stretched but police response not at all reassuring. She and her grandmother must be terrified.

Whoo hoo re: paper organisation Tidy! I bet it feels good to have it all stowed away! I must do the same thing next month (think paper work is habit of month for Oct). Thank you, anniv celebration was very low-key for number of reasons so we'll have to stay married for a bit to get to next milestone Grin

I've been very lazy today and only achieved two loads of washing, two dog walks, loads of dog grooming necessitated by mud, some bulb sorting and garden store sorting and some typing for DH.

Very wild night here. Amber weather warning. Rain and wind so bad it's as though someone is chucking buckets of water at the windows. I am really glad we are not driving back in it although dd v upset at missing opportunity to wear new lab coat chemistry. She is still weak but she is now sitting up in bed eating plain toast thank heavens.

Good luck with busy week ahead Laputa

Was just about to go to sleep but a client has called dh cheekily late at this time on Sunday night (10 pm here) grrrr.

ChicCroissant · 29/09/2019 23:35

Quick post just to drop the links for tomorrow - Launch Pad and Babystep 30 check your calendar for upcoming birthdays and a bonus extra Babystep about signing up for the emails (we don't always recommend this due to the amount of them)

Sleep well fledglings, see you tomorrow.

I can’t believe it either! Although TBF I say that at the start of every month through the year, every year. :o

Cagletini turns 2 on the 25th 😱

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/09/2019 09:37

I hate summer and love autumn and winter. Plus autumn and winter are so busy for us with school and events (and the C word!). So I always find that they fly by, spring goes at a standard rate and summer really drags. For me anyway.

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/09/2019 09:38

Just seen people were talking about autumn / winter footwear. I have bought boots from Aldi! Second time I have bought from there. Not perfect of course but really great for the price.

Solitarycaddis · 30/09/2019 09:43

Morning all!

Cant believe it's Oct tomorrow either! (Busy day but will start new thread later.) Agree that someone seems to have speeded up the film!

Can't believe Cagletini is almost 2 Laputa and your dc4 nearly 3 I've! Where has the time gone?

On the political news front: I am dreading this week. Reckon it is going to be pivotal in how things turn out.

On the cleaning front: fermette needs thorough "end of season clean". It is not going to be much fun with my crumped body (painful knees, hips, wrist) but needs must! At least we have woken up to glorious sunshine; the calm after the storm!

Solitarycaddis · 30/09/2019 09:48

Sorry, distracted by muddy dog there!

Meant to say Zoo wow you have been busy! Hope workmen visits go well!

Hope everyone has a productive week!

Solitarycaddis · 30/09/2019 09:50

X post Toostressy
Decathlon have some terrific bargains in winter footwear too!

Stilllivinginazoo · 30/09/2019 09:53

Sunny here SC too,but glorious red sunrise so I fear rain for later!(red sky in the morning shepherds warning, and all that)

Electrician has been
Glazier was early(due 10,got here half nine)and I currently have no glass in my window.i apologised for mess/need to step through my bed frame to reach window and he gallantly strode over the necessary bits to reach it!!

We are in target to be tradesman free in under an hour so may venture out for a troll with ds as sun's out and forecast rubbish most of the week
I seriously could do with a nap, having fret half the night about getting cleaning done before they arrived

The time since little cagletini joined us and I've (and foxes) came whilst on maternity leave...have we really all been sharing our lives so long??
