Swish through September 2019 with the fledglings - Flylady thread

ChicCroissant · 30/08/2019 13:40

Let's swish and swipe our way through September, decluttering as we go with the Flylady! We have a mix of old and new fledglings and everyone is welcome to join us for chat and motivation. Thanks to Stressy for running a fabulous August thread!

The Flylady Launch Pad is the place to start each day - each week focuses on a different zone of the house to clean if you have decluttered it first (can't clean clutter) and you can also follow the Babysteps if you'd like to introduce one new element each day and build on that.

If you like to plan in advance, the weekly Sneak Peek will give you advance notice of the missions and zone coming up, it changes each weekend.

The monthly focus for September is making the bed.

Sat in a tip admiring pics of dd2 I took in her dress when the realisation I have both a man coming to fix my "foggy" double glazed bedroom window and electrician coming to sort cracked sockets on Monday in living room and ds room....tomorrow I will have to fly like the wind....

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/09/2019 20:55

Obvs that's dd1 not 2,at 15 no way on earth we prepping for her "big day"

Solitarycaddis · 28/09/2019 20:58

Good work on the dining room table Tidy and hope you have help with the paperwork!

Hope you feel better soon Laputa

Still grim here. Dd very flushed and hot now having been white as a sheet earlier. Shivering and week etc. But overall slightly improving I think. DH and she snoozed this afternoon while I stayed "on watch" duty so I'm feeling tired now. Massive rain storms going on and very high winds.

Waves g'night to all! It's going to be a long one here I think. .. 👋

Solitarycaddis · 28/09/2019 21:02

weak not week

ChicCroissant · 29/09/2019 00:00

Get well soon Laputa and SC's DD/DH.

Not much flying here today Blush but had a good day anyway. Enjoyed Strictly tonight and the side effects from the antibiotics are lessening every day which is nice, I feel much less nausea now. I do eat a bit more to counteract the nausea so will need to improve my diet and exercise when I finish them in a few days!

Very rainy and windy here tonight, weather warnings out locally. Will get myself a snack and head for bed.

Launch Pad link and Babystep (pamper mission)

Sleep well.

Zoo that dress is lovely! So nice for you to have the wedding to look forward to. We have been engaged for years but marriage doesnt really mean much to either of us , and i cba with all the fuss Blush both BIL had huge fancy wedding, so there would be pressure to do the same and that is just not me! Im happy as we are tbh. I know mn is all about the security of marriage but tbh i dont need it. If anything happened i would be fine, our house is jointly owned and i have decent earning potential

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/09/2019 08:28

Beautiful pics Zoo, I really like the veils that fasten onto the back of the head like that rather than on the top.

We had a role reversal day yesterday, I took DS to a football match and DH stayed at home and cracked on with the cleaning. The football isn't a role reversal for us, Dh isn't interested in it and I love it, but the cleaning is usually more me as I work less hours. I'm at home today and he's out all day so my turn. Weekly food shop needed, also the usual laundry (I did get some line dried yesterday Smile but won't today Sad) plus decluttering. I need to watch Strictly as I was out last night too.

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/09/2019 08:32

The shite weather is seriously affecting the laundry situation here. I am back to think i might buy a washer/dryer so i can run two washes or two drying loads at the same time Blush i have had to put the heating on to dry washing which i imagine costs more than the additional appliance would?

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/09/2019 09:18

I have taken to having an airer in kitchen when driers on I've as it's warm and dries stuff without put heat on.i can only do this when home alone though as my kitchens shoe box size...
I couldn't keep on top without my TD tbh
As for marriage,I always thought I would get married before kids etc.my sister(NC now) got married as pregnant and her husband's horrible but she feels stuck with him as divorce isn't done thing in our circles.for that reason unless things changed with "d"p massively I wouldn't as I know he knows once in its forever and I most definitely am not sealing my fate like that.i know I'm still unlikely to walk away given how much ds feels the need for unity and with all his issues I don't rock boats unnecessarily, but I like the IDEA I could and am not trapped iyswim?

I seriously need get on top of things with workmen looming tomorrow."overslept"(translated= pitiful you are starving us yowls from kits at 8am as I don't set an alarm in a Sunday and was dark due to rain)

To do
Top up shop for milk, bread, pack lunch bits
Blitz house

Dd2 sent me some pics of dresses for me last night as I'm not confident with clothing etc(jeans and t shirts, leggings and long shirts, deffo casual /slob wear)it appears she's thinking navy, same as bridesmaids.i don't want to even think about hair, accessories etcit's 37 weeks(yesterday) til the wedding,so I seriously need to start attaining a certain level of polish/grooming...

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/09/2019 09:20

PS don't help mother if groom looks effortlessly put together and oozes confidence

Also,SC hope DD is over the worst.dud I misread DH has dropped also?

Tidyhomewannabe · 29/09/2019 10:39

Sc how is everyone this morning ? I hope you have avoided the bug.

Zoo don't compare yourself to mother of the groom, you being there will be enough for your dd and that is all that matters. Self care is important though so if you can put a bit of time away for yourself each week to have a pamper , you will feel the benefit Grinhope you and dd2 feel better soon!

Laputa hope you're feeling better this morning.

Waving to everyone else and sending a Sunday morning coffeeBrew

I didn't sort through the boxes last night, we watched a film and relaxed. I did clean the table and neaten the bookcase after the film whilst I waited for dd1 to get home (about 1130pm she got in ! )

Tada
Shower
Breakfast
Kids homework

Football is cancelled this morning, I am about to start sorting through the boxes - if I can get rid of them from the dining room today I will be so happy ! Also got the daily stuff and a roast chicken dinner to make. Oh has offered to go shopping AND take the younger kids so I should get an hour to organise for the week ahead Grin

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/09/2019 10:57

Zoo i am also firmly in the jeans / tshirt camp! I dont enjoy getting dressed up. Its not comfortable to me.

Our dryer is in the utility room, its a fairly small room and currently full of junk but if i sorted it out i could prob get an airer in there

Tidyhomewannabe · 29/09/2019 11:01

Ive I keep looking at the heated airers but the amount of space that they take up puts me off, I've also read about dehumidifiers helping with drying.

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/09/2019 11:13

I have a heated airer. Its not that good tbh. It takes up a lot of space and i dont really have anywhere it works well space wise and near a plug! Alot of the time i just use it un plugged Blush

ChicCroissant · 29/09/2019 11:24

I mostly wear denim skirts and a top. Hardwearing for sitting around moving round the house. I am trying to upgrade my wardrobe in the hope of getting a job though, putting together more suitable daywear Grin because it is in there (the wardrobe).

Hope all the poorly fledglings are fighting germs effectively today.

I know what you mean about the weather, it's been a pain! Our house is on the small side and it is difficult to hang up washing without feeling like it is taking over. I've got a small airer that fits inside the bath and that really helps, it's off the floor then. I do have a tumble dryer but don't use it often - I always thought it was really expensive to run when younger, but Which mag tells me that they costs around £70 per year when used regularly. Today might be one of those days.

Will finish tidying the breakfast stuff and then it's nearly lunchtime. Bit of shopping in Tesco to get lunch stuff for the next couple of days, have a ready stuffed chicken from Sainsburys for tonight (our regular Sunday tea).

Catch you later fledglings!

.........losing the plot with the paperwork........please tell me it'll be worth it when it's done!

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/09/2019 13:58

Tada
Food shopping bits done, albiet through three different shops as most were out of cheaper bread and the three loaves required to get us til Tuesday I'm not paying over a quid each for...heyho

One load folded and put away, one one airer, one in dryer, another in machine.i have at least another two loads to do today

Kitchen
Surfaces scrubbed
Hob wiped
Tiling wiped
Cupboard fronts wiped
Floor swept

Living room
In progress-tryu g locate dining table surface from sea of stuff, dumped bags etc...

To do
Quick tidy of zoolets rooms(check can see floors, laundry in baskets, beds made.possibily surfaces are visible)
Do something with my roomso man can get in to tackle the window tomorrow
Hall stairs and landing so we have no incidents of workmen snapping limbs tripping on various hazardsBlush
Proper tidy if front room

I am SUPPOSED to be having a pamper time with dd2 this pm.shes dug out a peel off face mask and we have stuff to tackle very dry rough feet.shes buried under a mountain homework/missed stuff fr being off last week.i just stuck head in and she's almost finished shakespeare stuff(90mins slog)still has maths, history,I media and E.P to do,but us planning to do some of these but not all as not all due tomorrow.thus can be a risky strategy based on not knowing what will be added to this pile in next few days but she's running close to empty now so I feel another hour could be all she can use productively

I'd best crack on with my jobs in hope we can still get an hour or two to relax and unwind

Tidyhomewannabe · 29/09/2019 14:36

Zoo what year is dd2 in ? My dd is in year 8 and the amount of homework is crazy, it's mostly what they call 'knowledge organisers' where they just revise and remember them . It's a lot of work.

Ta da
Paperwork sorted into piles

To do
Find a home for paperwork piles Sad

Solitarycaddis · 29/09/2019 14:49

Hi all, I have to put drying racks upstairs in town (in open plan dining/sitting area) because things don't dry quickly enough downstairs in basement as it's too cold. It's a right pain because wms are in basement and sitting room looks like a laundry half the time and I'm forever carrying laundry paniers etc up and down stairs

It's 25 years since dh and I walked down the aisle war crimes sentence Wink Grin and we were together on and off for over a decade before that. We were intending to host a bash to celebrate this summer (along with DD's 16th) but dd didn't want a party (she travelled and had friends over instead) , we were quite busy, I'm still recovering from op (although much better) and it's still too much of a /building site mud-pile here and we needed funds for other things such as mahoosive drainage channel!

As for clothing, I wear anything that can be bought on-line and doesn't involve visiting an actual shop Grin usually a simple "uniform" which consists of wide legged yoga pants/ratty polo tops/trainers indoors with gilet for warmth, and usually an apron over the top Grin and for outside it's slightly newer/better wide legged trews or coloured "old lady" jeans, worn with loafers , thin long sleeved polo top usually Esprit, Uniqlo cardi (they are about £40 quid for basic model and I buy the same one every two years and wear it to death) and gilet/scarf for warmth because I hate heavy coats. Sizes have expanded considerably over the years and "uniform" doesn't look good now I am fat but I CBA to change, plus it's comfy! Grin.

My one concession to respectability is to have one winter "going out" outfit and one summer one which includes tights, shoes, jewellery, bag whatever, which I can dress up or down, to get me through any special events (don't go to many nowadays) then I don't have to worry. Hate hate having to buy for specific wedding or whatever so I'm with you there Zoo. I'm sure you will look really fab in whatever you choose though because you will be such a lovely beaming proud ma! Smile

At wreck2 I only take an interest in what I wear on my feet such as muck boots, boots for mud & ice, boots with steel toe caps for when d🐎is being shod - all worn with wooly socks - because without the right footwear life is unsafe and miserable. The rest is a collection of summer/winter scraggy old jeans and casual tops. And again more gilets with ripped pockets covered in horse drool for warmth.

Thanks for kind words about DD. She's on the mend I think. DH and I haven't caught it (yet!) and I hope we don't because it's a really nasty one! DH was just snoozing because we spent a large part of Fri night in the local hospital with DD.

Spent the day walking the dogs in high winds (furry ears flapping wildly Grin) feeding DD tiny bits of toast and trying to erect IKEA shelving wish I hadnt started latter.

Laputa & Zoo hope you feel better soon!

🙋 to everyone!

Solitarycaddis · 29/09/2019 14:50

Good going with the paper work Tidy well done! Star

Solitarycaddis · 29/09/2019 15:07

Yes sorry not sure what age year 8 is, but can really sympathise with hwk overload Tidy and Zoo it's the same here. DD upset to miss school tomorrow because it's such a bugger to catch up and do the hwk.

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/09/2019 15:32

Year 8 would be age 12/13

Dc1 has been getting around 4 pieces of homework a week since starting high school in september. Obviously i assume this will increase over time. What i find hard is the lack of instruction on what is expected. He writes the homework in his journal in his own words which tend to be vague. He seems to be doing the bare minimum and im not sure if more should be going into it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/09/2019 15:44

I've ime if they aren't happy with his efforts he will soon hear about it and if it's really bad do will you it's a HUGE step up from primary homework levels.lil zoo has 1-3 pieces a night in year 7,but they're expected to take around 20-30 mins a piece I believe?in year 8 it goes up to around 1-2 hour a night(dep on subjects) and by time in year 11(dd2)it's averaging 2-3 hours a night, not including revision for tests or the GCSE exams.its super full on and I know many who have had to abandon all extra curricular activities to try and keep on top of it all
SC fingers X for DD being on the mend.
You do realise you would've got less time for murder than marriage of that length??
I also hate having cold/wet/uncomfy feet.ive been gifted a pair of super comfy
leathery UGG boots with a stud/chain detail and thick rubber soles from a friend who declared" not her style" and partner runs a trade stall for variety of brands at posh road shows/expos and he gave her them as we're a "freebie for the missus" she's also received gorgeous sandals and various other items so she was quite happy to see them rehoused and my feet are warm and comfy and very very happy 😂

Tada
Table located.still some stuff stacked on it but it's now visible and usable (we lack storage space for everything)
Bathroom cleaned
Litter tray and bins done
Another load wash in dryer, more on

Realised we are out if squash(lil zoo will not drink plain water) and on last loo roll,so I must nip out before it gets dark and get some as I swear zoolets eat loo roll!!

ChicCroissant · 29/09/2019 15:59

Happy anniversary SC, is today the actual day?

Carys, I hope you are having lots of lovely baby snuggles - you too IVE.

My DD has been working on one of those 'knowledge organisers' today Tidy, even she said 'it's the same thing each year' (she is finding a few of the subjects rather boring, unfortunately). All of the teachers produce booklets to be printed off by the student, she hasn't had a single textbook at all so far (just gone into year 8) which really surprised me. She has a plastic folder for all the endless booklets in her bag Hmm

Oooh zoo i need some autumn/winter footwear. I generally rotate between converse and uggs most of the year. Both my leather converse and my leather uggs have died. Ive been wearing wellies so far when its been wet! I would love new leather uggs!

I think we have a parents evening soon for dc1 so will try and find out more re homework expectations then.

I am due to restart my uni work this week Shock i had planned to get an early start but you know that has not happened ....
