Fledglings aim for an amazing August - the Flylady thread

...or just aim to get through the summer holidays!

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry - attempt to conquer Mt. Washmore!

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Expletive for the July thread CakeFlowersBrewWine.

Oh foxes that must have been worrying. You did the right thing. Good catch.

We are working through the laundry and the life laundry post trip. There was due to be a thunderstorm yesterday as we were flying back but it's coming today instead. It's suddenly got grey and dark and the birds have gone AWOL and silent.

TooStressyTooMessy · 07/08/2019 13:59

Glad DS is ok foxes. Absolutely please do give positive feedback. It is so important.

TooStressyTooMessy · 07/08/2019 21:18

Awesome news about tax return and feedback form foxes. If you specifically wanted to mention names you could always email PALS or the A&E manager with feedback. Great that you have done the form though and actually people would be able to look up who saw your DS when he was in anyway.

How lovely to hear about lilzoo and her friend and about DD2 and DS playing together zoo.

Big wing flaps to everyone else. We go away tomorrow again. I feel shattered and have what feels like a huge amount of packing to do. Both kids just gone to sleep so I am going to post the launch pad link and get started Confused.

We go away agin Friday, only for the weekend, but I feel the packing looming. Weather forecast isn't good either.

Well done on the tax return Foxes - I thought I was doing well last year by doing mine in October! Glad things turned out OK for DS.

DD's turn to cook dinner tonight, I could get used to this. She went to town by herself to get the ingredients too. DS saved the day by grabbing t he two loads of washing off the line just before a torrebntial downpour while I was at work, just need to go and sort them out then I'm off for an early night.

Zoo - the food at your house always sounds amazing, glad the lack of wifi paid dividends.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/08/2019 05:39

expletive Starfor DD cooking, and Star for D's rescuing dry washing.at least two things off your list for the day sub contracted!!

Those off on hols have lovely trips and safe travels!

IVEgottheDECAF · 08/08/2019 07:49

Ah i am jealous of the holidays Sad we had a weekend away earlier in the year but i could really do with another! Also feel bad on the dc as all their friends seem to be jetting off abroad!

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/08/2019 07:58

We're going camping Ive and the weather forecast is shocking, so possibly we will be jealous of those staying at home.

foxessocks · 08/08/2019 08:03

No holiday here ive but I don't think my dc are old enough to notice everyone else going yet! Dh is too busy studying all the time so we are going to try and go somewhere next half term instead.

I'm working today and dh has the day off not to work for once but to go out with the dc!

Next week dd has a summer school thing and I need to figure out the logistics of that around working and ds I booked it ages ago and didn't give it a lot of thought! Confused

I hope everyone off on holidays have a great time. Expletive I've seen high winds forecast so I hope your tent stays secure , if it looks too windy maybe decamp to the nearest hotel?!

ExpletiveDelighted · 08/08/2019 08:08

It's not our own tent Foxes, (we will be with DB and DN and are 6 adult sized people now, our tent isn't big enough any more) it's a hired bell tent so hopefully good and strong. If all else fails we're only going to be an hour from home.

IVEgottheDECAF · 08/08/2019 08:09

The summer weather does now seem like a thing of the past! Crazy to be saying that mid August!

Caught up on washing back log yesterday. Weather is meant to be dry today. I have a load of 0-3 baby clothes i want to wash incase baby needs them. Also need to go and pick up uniforms ready for September. Have an £8 off £40 tesco voucher so hopefully they have trousers, socks, tights etc in correct size and colours! Voucher can only be used towards uniform....

Also want to get my hair cut hopefully today or tomorrow. There is too much of it to manage with a newborn and time is running out. 28 days til due date....

IVEgottheDECAF · 08/08/2019 08:10

Would not fancy being in a tent in wind Shock then again i am not really a tent kind of person anyway. Too many bugs outside.

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/08/2019 08:23

Morning everyone. Surrounded by packing here Confused. Will check back in later.

OP posts:
TooStressyTooMessy · 08/08/2019 11:12

Well we have left the house. Not really sure if we have everything...

Ive, I absolutely hate the idea of camping and point blank refuse to go. We tried glamping and I hated that too. I think it is possibly worse than camping. I know loads of people absolutely love camping though so I hope you have a great time Expletive. Sounds as if you have a good tent which I hear makes all the difference.

It’s still pretty summery here! Not as hot as it was but still summer-like definitely.

Thanks for holiday wishes zoo. Tbh foxes, I think holidays with very young children are really same shit, different place so I’m not a fan when they are tiny. Good luck with holiday club logistics.

Big wing flaps to everyone juggling summer holidays, entertaining children and general life Gin.

Signing in rather late to the new thread! I’ve been trying to spend less time online, and then we just spent the last few days in the West Country.

Not a holiday. We went (a fairly long way, we live in Sussex) to an assessment centre that had been recommended, it’s a charity so they are much more affordable. It was an amazing experience, the Caglets each had a therapist who went through a ton of tests with them and interviewed us etc. Sorry some of you will have seen bits of this on FB!

A lot of it was confirming what we already suspected:
DS has ADHD (like, off the scale 😂) and dyspraxia
DD has dyslexia
Both have sensory processing disorder and auditory processing difficulties.

The reaction to the above was basically “well, DUH” 🙈😂 but it is very good to have professionals confirm it and that we will have their report to say they’ve been screened.

The big surprise was the I.Q. testing, I had no idea they’d do this and it freaked me out as I know DD struggles massively which has a huge impact on her self esteem. Hers is the bottom end of average (95) which I’d suspected but we found out LOADS about where her specific struggles were and also that in some areas she is very able. Visual processing is a huge deficit - some things she scored in the

Laputa lovely to hear from you. Once you have digested all the information it will be such a help to you for home schooling.

Foxes glad the fox cub is ok.

I love camping. We took the DC to Scotland, England , Wales and France camping. In France we went with Eurocamp to a collection of sites over a number of years. It was partly led by cost. The kids loved it because of the freedom and eating outside as well as making new friends on the site.

Happy hols to those going. We have DDs cat so I don’t think we will be going away together and if we do it will just be two nights as I don’t feel we can ask friends to do it any longer.

Yesterday

Sorted school paperwork.
Cleaned out henny, who has started laying again yeah!
Ironed a mountain while watching a film.

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/08/2019 14:58

Wow Laputa, that sounds like such a worthwhile experience and such a huge amount of information that you have now.

Well done on schoolwork organising Bower.

We have arrived at my in laws - staying the night here then they are taking us to the airport (which is close-ish) tomorrow. They have kindly taken the kids out to the park which has been great. DH is having a nap and I have sorted through the cases again and am attaching luggage labels. Discovered I only packed one bra Angry. Meant to pack two. Not the end of the world as the one I have packed is at least the best one to have packed for a holiday! I am also wearing one which I had intended to leave here as it is a bit of a crappy patterned slightly impractical one for summer clothes. But it is not awful and will have to come with us now!

I’m downloading some stuff to watch on my phone on the plane in case this is a possibility for me.

Must get on and finish luggage labels as I think they will be back very soon.

Lisette1940 · 08/08/2019 18:08

Well done to henny, Bower. Enjoy the hols Stressy - if where you are going is hot perhaps you can wash the one bra and have it dry quickly.

Laputa glad you got the assessments done. Reminds me of my days in assistive tech with my students.

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/08/2019 20:07

Thanks Lisette, we are going somewhere hot so yes, I’ll be able to wash it.

We fly tomorrow so I’m not sure how much I’ll be on here. Am expecting to come on MN in the morning but may not be on the rest of the day. I think I’ll have internet access while we are away but if not and I disappear for a week then I apologise in advance! I’m sure you can all keep each other motivated Grin.
