Fledglings aim for an amazing August - the Flylady thread

...or just aim to get through the summer holidays!

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

August’s habit is laundry - attempt to conquer Mt. Washmore!

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Expletive for the July thread CakeFlowersBrewWine.

zoo BrewBrewBrew

I had a bad night’s sleep - stress related about saying goodbye and the journey to come today. Ok the plus side it means I am up now and showered and at least having a bad night’s sleep on my own is fine as no need to get up for children etc. Could at least rest in bed.

Going to start packing now. Done a lot of it but always easier to do in the morning as at least now I know we just pick everything.

Had a bad night's sleep as travelling home at lunchtime - am looking forward to flying around the house and getting laundry on. Good luck stressy - it'll be fine. It's the waiting that's the problem.

TooStressyTooMessy · 06/08/2019 07:46

Thanks Lisette, you are so right, it’s the waiting. Good luck to you and anyone else travelling today.

I’m sure we can all related to looking forward to being able to put laundry on Grin.

Yep, just put my laundry on Smile. DS did his own yesterday from his trip away.

I get twitchy about packing and travelling too, once I'm en route I'm happier. Never settle to a flight until I'm through security. Hope it goes ok today Stressy and Lisette.

WOW!
Tuesday morning.
Crawls into naughty corner.

Just woken up.
Went to bed late as friend asked me over as their village has a special week this week. Then I had to make jam as I had to borrow scales after BF came home from work.
Jam turned out well and had set first try. Amazing as I had forgotten how much sugar needed and guessed as some already in due to scales problem. Now have various sizes of jam ready to cover and label this morning.
Hope home journeys go well today.

Plan
Cat
Jam
Dining room table,
half cleared yesterday and all paperwork sorted through and some thrown out and music back in own bag.
Some things taken to summerhouse as useful in there.
Will need to vacuum slug trail from carpet. Every morning we get slug shiny trail but can’t figure out how they get into house. We presume through inglenook but can’t see a hole this side. Weird.

Hope Cambs meet goes well zoo.
I’ve 😤🤯🥾manchild especially when you near end of term. Why can’t they see that now is the time to put big boys trousers on and crack on. Sympathy.

TooStressyTooMessy · 06/08/2019 11:50

cars Grin.

Oh how annoying about the slug trail Bower. They seem to be able to get in through the smallest of places.

We are back. Washing machine is on Grin. Going to start unpacking.

Cleaned kitchen surfaces as lots of flies about.

Jam pots sorted I had some left over which had to go in a bowl (looks like DH has recycled the jars I was saving Hmm the jam tastes amazing. Need to pick the rest if only it would stop raining.

Found two hand-painted pine hook thingy for the kitchen yesterday so wasted a lot of time taking off bits of paint with a pad instead of doing the dining table.

Going to do some now then iron then rest tomorrow. It needs sorting through which takes time

Bowerbird5 · 06/08/2019 14:00

You're on a roll zoo

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/08/2019 14:46

Dd2 has had weight issues on and off few years.shot up and grew into her weight, sadly she's widened out further and it reached a head where she's upset about it.put her into NHS bmi calculator (which has kids version) and she is indeed overweight..we chat about portion sizes, eating mindfully as she has tendancy to eat loads then feel bloated, and exercise(has sat on bum a lot so far this holiday).plan is for me to offer choice ideas for meals and create menu together.more family activity as well as her taking some responsibility for moving more and whilst she's at it taking good care of herself generally.i dug out a box of bits i have and she's accrued foot scrub, body lotion, hair mask and some bubble bath to add to her own stash she hoards

ChicCroissant · 06/08/2019 21:00

We are home! Two loads of laundry done already - will catch up on the thread shortly. Exhausted, but it was fun!

TooStressyTooMessy · 06/08/2019 21:12

Sounds like a plan zoo.

Glad you had a good time and have done some laundry Chic Grin.

Glad it went well Chic - well done on tackling laundry as soon as you got back.

Well, two loads of laundry done here too, the second lot is still on the line but I will go and see if its dry in a minute, it's been very breezy here today.

Also did a couple of unplanned jobs, unblocking the bathroom basin (think it probably needs a dose of soda crystals and boiling water to finish it but haven't got any).

I also completely cleared out the under sink cupboard in the kitchen in the search for the soda crystals and realised that I seem to buy more cleaning products than I use Blush there were several duplicates plus a lot of teatowels and cloths that had seen better days. So I bleached the sink to use up the dregs of one bottle of bleach and set aside some teatowels to go to the rag bank. Does anyone else get attached to particular teatowels? I have one that I brought back from a trip to New Zealandabout 30 years ago which doesn't really get used but I am too fond of to throw out.

DS cooked dinner and everyone liked it . That is not a reflection on DS's cooking skills but surprising because we are a family with very little overlap in food tastes and often end up doing multiple dishes.

ExpletiveDelighted · 07/08/2019 07:10

Tada!

Washing was still damp so that's still on the line, another load on (with a calgon tablet from my undersink stash) to get hung out on the other line.

Dishwasher emptied and put on a maintenance run with stashed DW cleaning pod.

Cats fed. Back to bed with a cuppa.

TooStressyTooMessy · 07/08/2019 08:10

Morning everyone. We are all doing well (or at least trying to) with the August habit of conquering Mount Washmore!

I’m working today so will pop back on at lunch. Happy flying everyone.

OP posts:
ExpletiveDelighted · 07/08/2019 08:13

Washing hung out, swish and swipe done, breakfast eaten and packed lunch made, off to work shortly.

foxessocks · 07/08/2019 08:23

I find the laundry easy to keep on top of when I can hang it outside and it dries in a day, I don't have a tumble dryer so winter it's harder as I don't always want washing hanging all round the house!

Having said that my laundry pile is still fairly big but at least there isn't a second over spill pile on the floor yet Hmm

Ds still asleep as we had a bit of a drama last night, we were putting the kids to bed and found ds had a rash on his tummy that didn't disappear when we put a glass over the top Shock anyway we took him to a&e as we figured that's what they'd tell us to do if we rang anyone , he was fine in himself though so we did feel slight frauds! Anyway he's fine the doctor told us to monitor him for 48 hours but he thinks just one of those random rashes but it is unusual that it doesn't disappear when pressed. He reassured us we'd done exactly the right thing. We got home at nearly 10 so not that bad really and the staff were all absolutely amazing. I need to find their feedback thing online and send some because I don't suppose they get enough praise .

Anyway because of all that I think I quiet day is in order. We are going to make cakes with a leftover banana, go to the library and the post office and maybe have some lunch out at a cafe.

Hope everyone ok sorry haven't completely caught up on the thread. Zoo sounds like a good plan re your dd by the way.
