Fledglings aim for an amazing August - the Flylady thread

...or just aim to get through the summer holidays!

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry - attempt to conquer Mt. Washmore!

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.
**

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Expletive for the July thread CakeFlowersBrewWine.

Onthebrink67 · 02/08/2019 09:07

Reading all your news I feel I got off lightly this morning 😃 managed to put one load of washing out and another one before I left for work and dealt with one bag to be shredded (of which there are several (hundred) in my house 😳). I need to feel more relaxed about disposing of stuff I always worry I will need it one day. When my grandmother died there was a chest of drawers full of meticulously ordered bits of string that she had saved as they may be useful 😃

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/08/2019 10:50

Aww at the drawer full of string Onthebrink. Hope people actually turn up today then zoo.

Ta da:-
Kids at activity
Cat is in the cattery bless her
One load of laundry just finished in washer
Breakfast dishes

To do:-
Everything! More realistically:-
Wet clothes on washing line
More laundry
Change bedsheets
Go into town for holiday bits (need to go to post office etc)
Try to put away some clean laundry

Then it will be time to pick kids up and have to pick a friends’ children up too as she took mine this morning.

First though, I have only just got back from cattery so am going to make a coffee to drink while I tackle all of this Hmm.

We MUST pack tonight for my parents as we leave early in the morning.

OP posts:
TooStressyTooMessy · 02/08/2019 13:34

Travel stuff etc picked up from town
Done a bit more laundry and put some away
Made our bed

Anyone got any ideas where DD2’s gymnastics kit is? Can find the bag but not her clothes so am guessing they have got lost after washing. I definitely remember washing and drying them. It is in none of the usual places and we need them ready for the day after we come back from proper holiday Confused.

TooStressyTooMessy · 02/08/2019 20:23

Found gym kit. Phew!

Evening,

Hope the builder turned up this time Zoo.

Yes to hanging on to things just in case Onthebrink, that is a habit for me too.

Well, yesterday I went to Ikea (without DCs) and came home with a big blue bag of things which are going to transform my storage, a desk which I did not intend to buy but it was on special offer and a random pot plant. Today I took delivery of my first box of Splosh eco cleaning products which are also going to transform my house and then spent most of the rest of the day on the computer doing various jobs (boring). Also managed to change our bed and do three lots of washing and a quick trip to Aldi. Such excitement not.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/08/2019 06:34

Well I had my builder visit...
Steel rods are going in to cut out parts on outside of brickwork then sealed in.if that fails underpinning needs checking.if cracks worsen significantly prior to job being done structural engineer needs to come out.job booked 22nd August keep your fingers X house doesn't shift much before then please!!
Plasterer will have to be booked once completely patch up cracking
Glazier booked 13th to review

In other news D's went to do to play video games,dd2 and lil zoo went out with dd1 for the day
Child free I saw a church mum and pop shops and had a catch up,followed by washing all lower floors on hands and knees and sorting some recipes.boy do I know how to live. #Rock n roll life!!
(Sad fact been so long since had no kids had no idea what to do with myself and place was eerily quietSad)
Girls stayed over with dd1 after coming to collect pjs etc.ds,DP and I watch fantastic beasts 2( not that impressed) and then do went bed and I sat chat D's til he got tired

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/08/2019 07:51

I can add Haribos to the naughty corner as we are now on the way to my parents so we have some sweets to use as bribery for the journey.

Catch you all later.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 03/08/2019 10:16

toostressy love the use of bribery Grin

Zoo I know what you mean about not knowing what to do with yourself when child free...the dc are out today with grandparents and dh is working, I don't know what to do!

Just had a parcel delivered and I did such a stupid thing, I've been selling a few bits online so I like to save any packaging we get, so I used the scissors to open the parcel and cut a hole in my new top that was inside 🤦 it was only from eBay and not expensive at all but I did have tears of frustration in my eyes I must admit!! Dh says he's going to try and sew it for me when he gets home. I'm properly shit with a needle and thread Grin

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/08/2019 10:40

Omg foxes that is soooo something i would bloody do!

Bowerbird5 · 03/08/2019 13:59

Oh Foxes what a pain. Could you buy and DH stitch on a fe embellishments to cover it?

Ah I'VE get baby stuff ready was always one of my favourite bits of pregnancy. I kept from baby to baby and loved getting out my favourite things and washing through in expectation. However DS2 only wore them for about a week. He was so big. 9lb 3oz at birth and by 3months he was the weight DS1 had been at 1!

I wrote a post at 2.30am and looks like it didn't post either TooStressy!
Annoying as I got quite a lot done yesterday which I didnt feel like I had because I potted. However I am making inroads.Slowly.
So,
cleaned front door inside and out. Washed glass and vacuumed hall and sitting room after mending vacuum.
Made bed.
Worktops cleaned.
washing folded(not ironed yet)
Made a cake.
Planted a few more plants.
Picked up plastic pots and untidy bits from most of garden.
Picked blackcurrants.
Sorted out three bags of school stuff and one bag of music choir.
Decluttered a whole bag full being ruthless which I too find hard Onthebrink I save for a rainy day might need it in future which is why I have a cluttered house now.I didn't have one when we moved here.Really can't throw out things people have given me.This is becoming a problem as one person has given me four teapot/cup/mug related things also some garden things which is fine because garden is big enough.
I am aware of this with other friends my age and tend to give plants, flowers or food or GIN related gifts now.

Today
Painted a chair as up-cycling a Lloyd Loom chair.
Watered plants indoor.
Watered tomatoes and have little tomatoes on now.Grin

Now procrastinating of what i need to do next. Dining room table needs ding.

Waves to anyone I have missed. Drops off lemon cake to naughty corner.

foxessocks · 03/08/2019 14:14

I've - showing the dc why their rooms are not tidy made me chuckle Grin. I ask dd to tidy her room and she literally just pushes everything to the sides 🤷
You've got a great ta da list today btw!

Bower it was on the side near the seam so covering it wouldn't have worked really, however my dh has mended it really well! Took him ages but it hardly shows 😍 what a superstar!!

Ta das for today
Daily routine
Deep cleaned downstairs toilet
Cleaned utility room / downstairs loo floor
Cleaned worktops in utility room
Made chocolate slab cake which is currently cooling on the side ready to ice 😋

Have discovered an amazing toasted sandwich in case anyone wants to try...mozerella, pesto and sun-dried tomatoes (not a bad price from Asda I know they can be very expensive!) , so easy and so delicious!

foxessocks · 03/08/2019 14:16

Oh and also blitzed some past their best strawberries and put into an ice cube tray...I'm thinking would make nice ice cubes for my G&T later!

IVEgottheDECAF · 03/08/2019 14:16

Foxes this was the big two, so they are 10 and 11! Expectations are high. Pushing all your shit under the bed is not acceptable. Having your heavily pregnant mother on the floor dragging it out is not either!

ExpletiveDelighted · 03/08/2019 15:17

Detailed tidying in the boudoir going on here. Clearing out my bedside drawers which are rammed with cosmetics, craft stuff and card games (when the DCs were younger we regularly had card games on my bed before bedtime).

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/08/2019 16:51

foxes I would probably had cut top getting it out packaging too
,Glad dp handy with a needle!!
I've yep.ds and lil zoo "tidy" shoveeverything under the bed(like I won't look FFS)I hope words were said and it got sorted
Great list btw,and well done getting things into hospital bag and baby stuff washed etc

I am pathetically over invested in deliciously Ellas baby pics.skye is utterly edible

Tada
Picked up prescription/had walk with dp and D's
Girls got home 1030am.had great sleep over with dd1,then we had camera club.there was a community fun day and dd2 took pics for the FB page.lots cute dogs with rosettes, face painted children, donkey rides etc(all check before hand that ok to post on FB) D's found it very stressful as there was quite a few stalls, mainly charity ones with a few things like bouncy castle/hook a duck/merry go round.glad dp was there as dd2 was bit shy asking people if could take pics so I asked and left do try and handle D's.dd2 bought herself gorgeous bumble bee pendant from a stall raising money for protecting bees and dragonfly eating from riding for disabled children so she was v happy!!
Bit shopping utilising the car after(tins, bottled water, soap powder etc)
Made him a hurried lunch and he trundled back to work, fed zoolets at more leisurely pace.
Put shop away
Cleared dining table and wipe
Wash up

Done two loads washing.its v humid here.we not had rain for a few days, but think it's expected again tomorrow, hoping tonight if gets rid of this oppressive damp air!

Stressy it's an incentive bribery is such an ugly word!!Grinhope trip goes well

Right I need put this clean washing away and decide on tonight dinner(probably cold and snacky)

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/08/2019 16:52

*dragonfly earrings

TooStressyTooMessy · 03/08/2019 17:54

Grin ok then zoo, incentive it is.

Star for your DH foxes

Detailed cleaning sounds very efficient Expletive!

Thanks for lemon cake Bower!

I need to be stricter on my two at tidying up Ive, you definitely have the right idea.

Big waves to everyone else. Off out for dinner in an hour and a half to meet an old friend... on my own Grin.

Wowh who! Toostressy.
I've been out with BF to local small town where we decided yet again the staff in shops are much politer than city in other direction.BF bought two items of clothing I didn't buy any but I was happy with purchase of two lavender plants from Yorkshire Trading for £5. We went food shopping and BF had huge shop compared to mine. I said to check out girl thats the difference between someone on their own and someone with family and lots of grandchildren. My bill came to £16 something and hers was £75plus.Mine will last me for five days. It was lovely to see her for so long and no interruptions.
Made early supper of Greek salad and Southern fried chicken and a glass or two or Rose which I won at quiz a few weeks ago. I don't usually drink rose but it was delicious tonight as I had chilled it and it was stifling hot with mugginess before a heavy shower.I nipped down to summerhouse and have had an hour an a half chilling and reading down there. I said to DH weeks ago we might have a Staycation due to DDs cat and do you know what there is something to be said for it. I feel so, so much better than a fortnight ago.
Ta Das
Two loads of washing
shopping done
Up-cycled chair by painting it and it looks great. BF couldn't believe it was same chair we were looking at yesterday. Need to do seat next.
Off to watch Casualty.
Smile

TooStressyTooMessy · 03/08/2019 22:17
