Fledglings Fly as we reach July

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the Flyaldy launchpad, which summarises everything you need to know on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly. Most of us do not follow it strictly but adapt it tou our individual circumstances.

Flylady flags up as a Not Secure website on some browsers, so best to avoid entering any personal information and take care with downloads/links.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual cake and wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for July is : not published yet but likely to be Swish and Swipe

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Morning all,

Bower and Zoo - sounds as though you both had lovely outings yesterday.

We survived the colossally busy weekend, everything went smoothly and we did a bit of a tidying blitz last night once we were all home and the guests had gone.

BrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrew

Today we move into Zone 3 - bathroom and office (home or work). Our missions are to de-cobweb bathroom ceiling, light fittings etc and to tidy everything to the left of our computer screen. Monday's daily focus is home blessing and our babystep is "Make Your Bed".

A timely zone for me, the main bathroom could do with a good blitz tbh!

ExpletiveDelighted · 15/07/2019 11:20

Well, I haven't done the mission but I have yelled at the whole family for constantly leaving tubes of toothpaste lying around with the lids off and leaving their slippers in the bathroom (it's tiny so slippers anywhere are either underfoot or stop the door opening properly). Feel better for that.

My bathroom is super tiny. It's the length of a bath and in terms of width, it's the width of a standard bath, plus room for a toilet. Then the wash basin is on the side wall jutting out in front of the loo. It's functional but there's basically one person standing room in front of the loo and basin. Just enough room for the door to open.

I am so bad at flying Sad

foxessocks · 15/07/2019 17:27

Hope everyone okay, sorry haven't caught up with the thread from the weekend, been really busy , I'm so tired!

LivingInLaputa · 15/07/2019 17:29

Therapy done. Need to book in for the next one. I have homework!

It was a good session but I was a bit overwhelmed and finding it hard to focus.

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/07/2019 20:18

I've you have your SPD pass here from flying.hiw are things lovely?
Lapuna glad therapy went well

LivingInLaputa · 16/07/2019 09:22

Very quiet here!

Having really enjoyed my time writing up the therapy session again, I think I may start writing a daily journal too (while keeping the therapy one separate). I live in my head too much. I’m not sure this would prevent it but maybe it would help. There are too many thoughts buzzing round my head all the time and it’s probably the main reason I zone out all the time.

In more positive news I’ve finally finished a kindle book I was reading and am now continuing with another that I had started ages ago (a non fiction which always takes me longer). Charging up my paperwhite has definitely helped as I’m not distracted by apps and games and MN :o

DSD officially moves in today! :o

ChicCroissant · 16/07/2019 09:25

Morning! I should be going out and I don't want to, may just go for an hour instead (fun thing supposedly!)

Will hang out a load of laundry and try and motivate myself and avoid other threads on MN

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/07/2019 10:07

Morning, sorry, I'm not doing very well with posting the Flylady stuff first thing so everyone can ignore it

Today we are going to clean grubby spots in the bathroom (door frame, handle etc) and tidy up the RHS of our desk. Tuesday's daily focus is planning and our babystep is to read the emails on the Flylady website. Link here launchpad

Well done on the book Living - I'm really struggling to read at the moment. Last year I did a reading challenge and read at least 20, I think I've only finished one or two this year so far Sad. I keep a diary in my bullet journal, try and include one nice thing that has happened each day.

LivingInLaputa · 16/07/2019 12:22

You really don’t need to worry about the links expletive they are of course much appreciated but I think for many of us this thread is more about the chat and support ❤️

DH has taken the younger two out and DD and her friend have decided to go to the park too, so I have the house to myself yay! First things first, PIANO TIME. After listening to a particular song on Spotify as it’s stuck in my head for some reason (Glory of Love cover by New Found Glory)

Had a lovely chat this morning with friend’s mum around DD starting secondary, was good to share the worries etc and we are making more plans for the meantime.

IVEgottheDECAF · 16/07/2019 12:42

Ty zoo i know i need to be kind to myself but bloody hell i can barely make it to the shops these days! I have just signed up to a shopping delivery service and i am admitting defeat. Recently been put on iron supplements as was discovered as anemic so hopefully they'll kick in some time soon. Sorry to hear you had the shock off SS but good that schools etc are backing you!

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/07/2019 16:11

If was aneamic throughout my pregnancies I've. and pretty much continue to be since couple weeks after start iron and higher fibre diet I start feel but more alive!!

Tada
Ta didn't....

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/07/2019 16:22

Thank you Living I do quite like doing the links as it is making me actually think about Flying a bit more as I have been distinctly slack over the last couple of years, so I will carry on, but they may be randomly late!

LivingInLaputa · 16/07/2019 18:18

I’m not sure I’ve ever really “flown” Blush

A friend visited today with her bullet journals and showed me how she tracks everything. I have no intention of doing the planning, diary type bit - we have a family diary and that works fine. But I want to do habit tracking like for self care etc and eventually build up to housework stuff too, so that will become like a flylady control journal in a way, with things I do and track daily, weekly etc.

Cagletini fell asleep in her high chair having steadfastly refused to nap all day. Thankfully we got her awake again and she’s now playing in the garden.

I nipped into town and got a proper notebook to do my actual journalling so I can start tonight. Quite excited! I need to do my “forgotten stuff” bit of the therapy diary first though (only have a few bits to add) so once DD’s friend has been collected I’ll sit outside and do that.

Piano time didn’t go so well, the keys felt different where I’d had to clean them with surgical spirit to get the pen off (thanks Cagletini Hmm) and made my hands feel weird, sensory hell. Ugh.

LivingInLaputa · 17/07/2019 00:31

Ugh still totally wired. (I accidentally typed weird first, which would also fit)

Cagletini fell asleep at a really awkward time and I was convinced she’d wake up again but she hasn’t yet and isn’t even in jammies. Oops. I did get to start my new journal though so that’s something.

Busy day tomorrow so I should really try and sleep.

Bowerbird5 · 17/07/2019 10:09

I haven’t kept up with mine.

Morning all I am lazing in bed. Been awake for hours but lazy / tired. If you want a laugh look at the “ To be mortified...” thread. Not laughing at OP but some of the other posters answers.

Right kick 🦵 up the bum and pointy stick too please.

IVEgottheDECAF · 17/07/2019 10:55

My pointy stick resembles a flump ....

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/07/2019 16:07

I've is that the delicious marshmallow variety or the weird kids show hairy creatures with dodgy noses??

Lisette1940 · 17/07/2019 18:54

I took it to mean a marshmallow but I seem to be craving sugar . Ate 5 choc hobnobs today - I'm meant to be eating better. Bad Lisette. Husband away, waiting for a delivery, it's raining, delivery went to wrong house 😜 more monopoly playing.

LivingInLaputa · 17/07/2019 22:30

Took the big two to art club today and then I swam. Nothing else though!
