Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the Flyaldy launchpad, which summarises everything you need to know on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly. Most of us do not follow it strictly but adapt it tou our individual circumstances.

Flylady flags up as a Not Secure website on some browsers, so best to avoid entering any personal information and take care with downloads/links.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual cake and wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for July is : not published yet but likely to be Swish and Swipe

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Sounds good.
I cleaned the bathroom and made salmon sandwiches with salad and crisps for tea. Strawberries and raspberries with oat cream. We had a big lunch. I had a veggie burger and chips and DH had a beef steak salad and 🍟

We have been gardening all day. A friend helped and they dug out a complete bed. It had some roses that were invading everything else. So chopped geraniums back and tied up perennial sweet peas and dug out most of the rest. DH dug it over and put some top soil on.

We bought some Alpines and planted the whole bed behind the summer house. It looks great and will spread a bit next year. It is edge with a low stone wall. Going to plant the climbers tomorrow then the path and it will be done. It will be gorgeous next year.

I did mean the marshmallow. Intrigued by the kids show creatures though and off to google!

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/07/2019 08:18

Morning all, sorry, I didn't turn up yesterday, Flying fail. It's rained overnight here and feels quite cool this morning. Bower - well done on the garden, it sounds quite lovely. Permanent sweet peas are beautiful, there's a house along my road that has loads in the front garden (it's a tiny garden more of a forecourt, about a metre square) and they fill it every summer).

Just off to check out the flylady website, back shortly

Well, a quick Flying catchup. Mission wise we are supposed to have cleaned the doors of our vanity unit and our computer monitor yesterday. Today we should stocktatkenour bathroom supplies and think about making small changes such as a new shower curtain while keeping our desks clear.

Babysteps - yesterday we should have gone to bed at a reasonable hour and today we should read Flylady's 11 commandments.

They look like potatoes 🥔

LivingInLaputa · 18/07/2019 11:10

Ugh. Tired. Slow start to the day. We have only just started HE

ChicCroissant · 18/07/2019 11:53

Morning! I was also AWOL yesterday as I went out with friends for a caramel-shot full-caffinated coffee. It was delicious. Surprisingly, I am not losing a lot of weight mystified

I am using the timer today, just done 15 mins in my DD's bedroom. Having more of a clear-out in there, I wonder if I will ever get to the end of constant decluttering and chucking out! Her room will keep me busy for a while yet though.

LivingInLaputa · 18/07/2019 12:13

Ugh home ed hard going this morning. How the hell DD thinks she will cope in school I have no idea 😰😰😰

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/07/2019 17:12

Survived TAF meeting
DP ain't going to like they think we should have couple counselling,he needs bereavement support and to address lack emotional support to everyone.ive been identified as anxious which "no doubt" affects ds.dont you just love outsiders judging....I've earned her tread lightly at do it he will shut down, even on his own children if he feels attacked and we will get the blame

ChicCroissant · 18/07/2019 20:30

Flowers zoo Flowers

I can't disagree with their plan to get your DP to engage more though. You can't do it all yourself zoo I get that it is a hard balance with the outside help as well, I was speaking to someone the other week who has a plan for her child and was saying that it needs to be seen to fail before she can do what she thinks might work. A pain for all involved really.

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/07/2019 22:06

Zoo Flowers. I've been wondering if an EHCP might be needed for your DS. I went through the EHCP process for mine a few years ago and there were two other posters on this thread at the time doing it too, both their DSs followed similar paths to yours IIRC (undiagnosed SNs, anxiety on transition to secondary school, home ed for a year or two and transitioned back to school in yr 9 with an EHCP). It all seems very daunting but there is a lot of good advice out there.

I am so tired (not following babystep 17!).

I'm having some sleep issues too, find it hard to sleep at night but can barely keep my eyes open late afternoon. Just bedtime that is a different matter!

Last day of term for DD tomorrow and it is a half-day. I cannot wait, love the long summer holidays!

LivingInLaputa · 18/07/2019 23:23

I think an EHCP would be good. Setting out what help he is legally entitled to. 💐 You’ve done a damn good job making sure he’s getting educated despite being too UNWELL to go to school (they MUST remember it is a MH issue not just refusing to go) - I mean FFS you were begging them to set him work and then recently they said they won’t even bloody mark it 😡

So fucking tired. Not much achieved really.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2019 06:46

I need to ring the LEA today I think to clarify my position and then set wheels in motion for ehcp.im just worried I will get chewed out by social care side because I don't parent him right.....

In other fabulous developments, lol zoo tummy ache not improving and added a new lower one whilst peeing.emergrncy app at gp 6pm.nurse says need see doc(we did manage take a sample) by time saw doc at 7pm her sample was positive for pus presenthe gave us a script and said tummy ache worsens a+e as across belly button and right side...
Trip boots as now to late for pharmacy reveals he's issued an obscure v expensive drug not carried as standard by any pharmacy and whilst there's a generic alternative the pharmacist cannot issue it without doc changing script.back to Doc's today then.....you couldn't make it up!!!

LivingInLaputa · 19/07/2019 09:02

Fucksake. Nits AGAIN. Full on infestation this time. Only combed DS so far and he’s got the shortest hair 😭😡

Hope lilzoo is better soon 😰💐

ChicCroissant · 19/07/2019 09:28

I hope you get the meds today zoo, such a pain when you can't start them ASAP to relieve the pain Flowers

50 years ago we put a man on the moon yet we can't eradicate nits, I hate them. I used the Hedrin once on them, very gloopy but it did the job. Does take a bit of washing out though.

Last (half) day of school today, yay! Raining though, so not a laundry day - might catch up a bit with the ironing instead!

Need to book an activity for DD over the summer holidays today, and hopefully buy a music CD that has been released today. Just having my breakfast and a large coffee to kickstart the day. Catch you later fledglings.

Lisette1940 · 19/07/2019 10:05

chic 🤣 over moon landing and the ongoing problem of nits. Can you imagine not being able to scratch while wearing those helmets? Sorry to hear about the infestation Laputa. Some (small) things were sent to try us.

Your dp sounds very like my dad zoo. Except I didn't have a lovely Mum like you to balance things out. I had a lot of anxiety issues as a child and still some as an adult.

LivingInLaputa · 19/07/2019 12:42

I’ve escaped the house for a bit. Had to drop DD off with a friend (hence combing them out immediately this morning - hurrah for nitty gritty combs - rather than leaving in some treatment, although we do have some stuff to use). DH combed me and the baby too and hopefully DH and DSD have combed themselves while we are out! Just UGGGGH I resent having to spend so much time on it! And all the laundry too. DH has been lumbered with that. We were meant to do some stuff about the moon landing (:o chic) but didn’t have time.

Chose some fiction to read at the library which I found a bit overwhelming TBH! When I worked there I just chose books that caught my eye while shelving etc 😳😳😳

I have also replied to the LEA lady who sent our home ed report (all good) asking for advice on applying for schools and EHCPs. Not sure I’ll get a reply as it’s end of term but at least I’ve got the ball rolling.

IVEgottheDECAF · 19/07/2019 13:02

Urgh! @ nits, horrible things!

I am amazed my dd who has bum length hair has never caught them!

ExpletiveDelighted · 20/07/2019 08:06

Morning all,

Nits, urgh, what a PITA they are. The Nitty Gritty is one of the most hated objects in our house, it doesn't go smoothly through either DCs hair.

Need to pile through some laundry today as tomorrow I will be spending all day at a swimming gala, the joys Shock. Also got to take DS to an end of term awards thingy at his sports club today, not sure if he's going to be able to carry on with it next term as he needs to move up an age group and training will be on a night which clashes with something else that takes precedence. He's going into his GCSE year and thinking he might need to cut back on sports commitments.
