Fledglings Fly as we reach July

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the Flyaldy launchpad, which summarises everything you need to know on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly. Most of us do not follow it strictly but adapt it tou our individual circumstances.

Flylady flags up as a Not Secure website on some browsers, so best to avoid entering any personal information and take care with downloads/links.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual cake and wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Oh and not forgetting "habit of the month" which for July is : not published yet but likely to be Swish and Swipe

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Just realised that bower is probably away this weekend, hope you are doing OK bower

For a change, we have nothing on today - bliss! Can just loaf around at home instead obviously could do housework as well and I'm quite looking forward to it. A good chance to attack that ironing mountain!

I have no plans. No plans, people. Tomorrow is going to be an early start and a hassle so I'm making the most of today Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 13/07/2019 09:04

Plans galore for the whole weekend here. School event, drama group production, dance school show, swimming gala plus various houseguests and its bloody boiling already

Although MN normally delete any threads along the lines of 'who is your favourite poster on MN' they have started one themselves with Gin as the prize.

Our very own zoo has been nominated on the thread, check page 4 Grin

Hey guys. Been proper shit mentally here. Not coping at all. Blah. Therapy on Monday so that’s something.

Finally got some time alone at home and I’m all restless and don’t know what to do really. Going to force myself into the shower/clean clothes and then play piano I think.

Just copying something I wrote on the other main thread I hang out on, save me writing it out twice! Probably repeating some stuff (I tend to be more candid on here than the other thread as this one is my safe space!)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The biggest news here is that DD has declared she is now ready to try secondary school! She’s been adamantly against it for the last year or so having had a bit of a wobble while her friends were doing all the SATs/end of year six stuff. However she has always said she may want to try at some point and I think she would regret not trying. So we have spent the last year in particular working on more structured home ed stuff to get her more ready, and she’s worked hard on getting over her fears and is so much more confident and moved on from what went on at juniors.

It’s not going to be as simple as just getting a school place, partly as our town is mega over subscribed in most schools! Also it’s important to make sure she has a lot of support in place, due to the ASD and the other issues that aren’t diagnosed yet. We have both Caglets’ assessments next month and they’ll give a report which we plan to use to get an EHCP. Then we will look round school open days in September and see what happens really. Hopefully she will get in somewhere partway through (year 8) and in the meantime we are carrying on as we are and getting her as ready as possible!

(DS is very different, and is absolutely against the idea, so will stay home ed and we will have more time to focus on science which is his passion!)

ChicCroissant · 13/07/2019 12:01

Oh wow Laputa that will be a big change for you all - I know you have been thinking about it though, because I recall you mentioning it when my own DD started year 7 this year (they are the same age, I think). Sorry to hear that you are not feeling that great yourself though. Flowers

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/07/2019 14:57

Wow Laputa big changes ahead.i do think if she wants to its worth a try,as long as has support in place.keep up posted on how things progress with that
Sorry things are so crummy at mo.you know I'm around on here or thru messenger anytimeFlowers

Chic I feel quiteBlush I was nominated, that threads my baby, but also selfishly it holds me up as I don't feel I battling on alone...

Anyhoo, the craptacular news we had other day- D's school reported me to child services.no clear reasoning I could make sense of,query his"rapid weight loss"(erm he's underweight, but has seen dietetics and we have charted progress with knowledge we need to see gp he drops to centiles.hes actually gained very slightly this year)concerns for my MH as no support network, query girls attendance at school and our commitment to maintaining appointments-all things they know nothing of/about.weve never missed an app with CAMHS,except when lil zoo was ill once and i rang to rebook early on that day
Church have also expressed concerns about D's lack education, girls no longer joining in much as D's doesn't at church(choir etc)and lack support for me
Feels like I've been stabbed in the back.i told child services check girls attendances-gave school details as nothing to hide there.dd2 has 97.8%attendance FFS.she rang me back later that day and said neither girls school any concerns, cahms were ok with us,but feel I unsupported and "at risk of MH crisis".D's school tellingly never got back to them....as it stands they have NOTHING to chase me over, but have asked camhs to organise frequently meeting with themselves school and church(and us) to ensure things are ok
I am fucking LIVID.like that's going to provide us with a sense of calm.cheers people,thanks a bunch

ChicCroissant · 13/07/2019 15:07

zoo I appreciate that it must have been a shock to hear about the involvement of social services but they can provide valuable support sometimes so I wouldn't discount them at this stage. You don't seem to have much support tbh, it always sounds like you doing absolutely everything.

Lisette1940 · 13/07/2019 15:44

I'm sorry to hear you've all got so much on your respective plates. That must have been quite a shock zoo 🙁

Lisette1940 · 13/07/2019 15:51

Does anyone know if SC is okay? Last I heard she had tummy bug, poor soul.

ChicCroissant · 13/07/2019 15:54

SC was due to be away from the thread during July/August anyway due to a variety of visitors and builders IIRC. I hope she's doing OK if she's reading at all, the bug seemed to be hanging around longer than anyone would like!

Lisette1940 · 13/07/2019 15:58

Ah, that's reassuring chic. Hope she's on the mend.

I don't want anyone to stay at all this summer. I'm becoming very antisocial and we have all sorts of stuff to do to the house.

LivingInLaputa · 13/07/2019 19:06

Well looks like I’ve found a fun project for the summer... we have swapped tables with dh’s ex and it’s really smokey 🙈😭 so going to try and sand/paint/varnish it

ChicCroissant · 13/07/2019 21:29

I saw this and thought of the fledglings who are approaching the end of term of their education method over the next week and a half.

Far too true!

ExpletiveDelighted · 14/07/2019 07:42

Morning all

Halfway through our busy weekend. Yesterday was nice, caught up with lots of people at various events. Managed an hour or so of general tidying, lots of stuff had got piled up at the top and bottom of the stairs so I had a big sort out and put away session. Now have a car boot full of stuff waiting to go to the charity shop. I also managed an hour at the allotment, very hot and sticky.

Zoo - what a nightmare, as if you don't have enough on your plate.

Living - what a big change that will be for DD, sounds as though she is a very mature young lady who has given things a great deal of thought. IME there is a lot of movement between schools in years 7 and 8 so hopefully you'll be able to find a space.

OP posts:
ExpletiveDelighted · 14/07/2019 07:45

Sunday is Renew Your Spirit day - try and take a little time to do something for you, such as church, a walk, watching a movie.

OP posts:
LivingInLaputa · 14/07/2019 15:47

Thank you :) yes it’s a bit weird really as there are lots of girls DD’s age just coming out of secondary for the first time 🤦‍♀️ I’m hopeful at least that should she be unhappy when she does try, she will have more options for some group learning at home, as that is what is distinctly missing here because most of her current peers don’t want to.

I had an epic lie in this morning. Then took my new higher dose of beta blockers so now I feel weird.

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/07/2019 20:10

Evening all, been quiet here this weekend!
I've been a tired grump today.i pushed everyone upstairs and had 90 mins on sofa(cooler and quieter downstairs) and was much better after that!!
Four loads washing done
All fed no one dead

Took zoolets over local nature reserve at 530.normally walks are an early morning thing.ds struggled with groups people/teens enjoying sunshine romping around but it was nice to see different insects and birds and the afternoon light gave long grasses a golden hue we don't normally see which was lovely
Lil zoo and D's fed and showered, they've just gone up

Lisette1940 · 14/07/2019 20:23

oh dear scoutcat is shameless!

Tesco shop put away. I forgot that dh is away until friday so I hope ds is in a growth phase as there is a lot to eat for once.

Watched Wimbledon - what a final!

need to clean the doors and lightswitches - grubby again!

Bowerbird5 · 14/07/2019 21:58

Hi I’m back.

Zoo that sounds a bit shit ...SS but also Scoutcat. Our cat is on the mend and making up for not eating for a week. Scoffing continually. Perhaps she has had a bit of a bug for a while as she was fussy before and now eating everything! Thank goodness I couldn’t of coped with losing her at the moment. Only thing I can think of zoo is there used to be a charity called Homestart who gave support to families. I am not saying you need it but might get others off your back if you had a support network. You are a very good mum. You cook lovely nutritious meals, are always there for your kids. Have regular appointments which you keep. Regular contact with GP. The only thing I would have concern for is that DS is very anxious and therefore you are having an intense time with hardly any time out for you. You need to recharge batteries. They should have discussed it with you. I can understand you feel a bit betrayed.

Need to hand in notice. Feel very sad to end like this. Those kids have broken me. Teacher is going too. A friend text me to say job could have been an age thing. She couldn’t get another job. She is only just on pension now. Been living on savings.

Laputa
Big step for DD. Pupils with SEN get priority in this county. So unless lots have taken up places you may get in sooner than you think.
I hope you begin to feel better soon.

I’ve wondering how you are feeling in this warm weather. Not long now though may seem it to you.

Chic yes I was away from Friday till 2pm then drove home. Had to stop and have nap. Wonder whether BP was low as felt a bit faint. Didn’t sleep well as woke up dreaming about writing resignation. Then didn’t get back to sleep till about 5am then bird song woke me. We had a lovely day out yesterday. We went on the Gondola to Brantwood. Ruskin house. About six Turners there...beautiful. The house was lovely and some interesting, meaningful quotes presented beautifully. I can recommend it as a good day out. The gardens were pretty and the ice house interesting. The ride back was wonderful as the sun was really warm and just a slight breeze. I think we could have stayed on for another circular sail but alas the boatmen wanted to go home. We had Mass then a bbq staying out until about 9:30. I went to bed early about 10:30 the others were about 12.

One more week to go.

Ta da
Swept kitchen. Washed a few things.
Watered plants.
Cleaned henny out no 🥚 think she has shut the shop.
Tidied out some ikea drawers ready to paint and put in summer house as no room in the kitchen now.
👋to everyone.

ChicCroissant · 14/07/2019 22:50

That does sound a lovely day, bower

I was out most of the day, bit longer than expected but very nice. Had to drop DD off early this morning and then had a few hours to ourselves to wander around a town and we went to the park first which was very quiet at 9.00am on a Sunday morning and really nice. Have slightly overeaten during the day so have saved the chicken I was going to roast for tomorrow night instead Blush

Really tired, but enjoying a chilled glass of white Wine I've not done much housewise this weekend as still not feeling quite right myself but hoping that next week will bring out a rush of enthusiasm in me Or at least a bit of panic that it's the last week before DD is off for 6 weeks. Either of those scenarios would work, tbh.

Time to drink more wine get some sleep. See you on Monday fledglings!
