Fledglings awaiting April organisation... and a plan - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the April Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

April’s habit is usually making your bed which is a nice easy one Smile.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to Chic for a lovely March thread as always.

Have cleared a section of DD's wardrobe, have got rid of quite a bit of stuff - amazing how stuff falls down to the back and you don't see it behind the hanging items - I found a very old and small school coat there!

Have a donation bag and a rubbish bag, hoping to do a tip trip in the next couple of days.

I think I've only been on this thread, don't remember the other one. I am on FB.

ExpletiveDelighted · 16/04/2019 16:32

I've been on these threads since 2009, there were others back then (slatterns, daily lists etc). It nearly died about three years ago in a February slump when I was running it but soon bounced back. I'm in the Fb group too but don't post much.

IVEgottheDECAF · 16/04/2019 16:43

I am on the edge of shit being lost .....

Dd is being very rude and argumentative. I had clearly done too much and aggravated my spd so now can barely sit down

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/04/2019 17:16
HillsBesideTheSea · 16/04/2019 18:09

Ok before any one loses their shit.

First there was the flyers- but it was just lists of ta da and a bit of Chatter

Then came the babysteps in theory to help support people into the fly thread but they took off in their own right and the fly thread died.

Then someone came along tried to tell us we were doing flylady the wrong way and politely shown the door. They then set up their own flying thread and there were two fly lady threads

The other thread fizzled out, fledglings kept lightly pottering along and the only flylady thread.

Right history lesson over with, the important stuff

Do you know the difference between Https and Http? No? well this is what is causing the security issue with the flylady site.

You can set up a website and before all websites you will have
Clear as mud? wait for it... it will become a full mud face pack eventually....

Https was brought in for added protection, this meant that if you were visiting a website that had https it have extra protocols that meant you were likely to be safer if doing internet shopping etc etc.

Got it so far?

Then hackers got smarter and encryption got smarter. And the base line standard got smarter. And no website will show as secure if it is not running Https:// (ie they have not upgraded to https protocols). So whilst the Fly lady website is not dangerous per say it has not increased in line with what is viewed as basic steps needed. Like I said it involved by licences and widgets etc without being intrinsically unsafe.

That said if you visit a website that does not have https it is in theory more possible for there to be an issue. However, https does not rule out problems, eg mumsnet has https but has have major issues with 3rd party ads which include malware/viruses. In short - if you don't like risk get off the internet.

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/04/2019 18:13

Too late, lost shit for other reasons...
Lil zoo flatly refused part any pony related stuff despite not playing with it in over 6months.dd2 then yelled at me and I went over the edge and spectacular parenting fail told them all to fuck off and leave me alone.bedn crying on sofa past 5 minutes.ive really had enough of everythingSad

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/04/2019 18:25

Personally I veto any linking of this page with FB. FB is too big for its boots and far far too invasion to be healthy. Keeping this as seperate from FB as possible is my preferred option.

Launch pad

If you want more info on the secure/not secure issue please clicky here

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/04/2019 18:28

Oh and the short version is flylady is ok as long as you do not enter any information into the website. Clicky for looking at info but not downloading should be ok.

Shadycorner · 16/04/2019 18:51

Ta very muchly for all that crack info Hills. Much appreciated! All that stuff is very useful to know. I didn't have a clue about http aspects!

Totally take your counsel about Facebook, especially given the fact that things on here haven't been that secure in the past. Probably best to keep 30 degrees of separation!

Lisette1940 · 16/04/2019 18:54

How can you do Flylady the wrong way? Confused I'm not much of a stickler for the 'right' way to do things

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/04/2019 18:55

Hey Zoo good. Good for you for losing your shit. Good for you for telling them you will have time for a break.Sometimes you HAVE to show that you are done and that there are consequences to actions. Parents do not have endless pits of energy and tollerance. It is ok. But children need to learn this when they get old enough. Hopefully they will get the hint and step back and chill for a bit.

Now grab a brew, eat some food - proper food. and just be for 5 mins. No one can keep going on no sleep and no food. Those conditions are listed as a form of torture. Please look after yourself!!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/04/2019 19:01

Lisette - mostly it was that we were not following flylady to the letter, that we interrpreted the information the wrong way, and that we were not going to accept someone crashing into a long running thread telling us we should change how we had been running the thread for a couple of years by that point. Apparently we were unfriendly and cliquey.

Unfortunately though due to the incident that riled more than a few feathers, any one saying that the 2 thread that were running at the time were the same will automatically put those of us who were about at that time on the defensive. There were calls for us to be disbanded and all cliques to be shut down around the same time. At the time we thought it was a bit rough. Mind you that was before the great hacking incident. Still raw emotions still with a few of us over that event, which is why it will be picked up on consistently even if it shouldn't matter.

TooStressyTooMessy · 16/04/2019 19:10

Wow thanks for all info Hills. Will have a proper catch up later.

Waves to Hill's and to everyone else! Take care of yourselves fledglings! Xxx

Cagliostro · 16/04/2019 19:24

I love the thread and don’t care about the links, I know the system, I love the people here ❤️ I’m on the FB group too

Home from my mum’s, knackered and achy, journey was a bit of a nightmare.

ChicCroissant · 16/04/2019 19:41

I wonder if that other thread was either before my time or when I was taking a break (but I think that was after the great hacking incident).

I've never found this thread cliquey at all, always very welcoming.

No problem with people doing things differently either - I watch a few vloggers now who mention they got their idea of household routines from Flylady (and she got it from someone else) so whatever works, my friends!

zoo, you need to look after yourself - you've got so much on at the moment and you really need to think about yourself as well. Hope you are doing OK.

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/04/2019 19:44

Ok, so here is a question....

How is it I can remember all the thread history but not remember where I put my sodding pain killers? I swear I had them this morning!

TooStressyTooMessy · 16/04/2019 21:23

Oh dear Hills, did you take them with water? Not in the cupboard with the glasses? Bathroom cabinet?

Sounds as if there has been some bizarre history on these threads then which is before my time, although I did know some stuff had gone on I never fully understood it. I hope we can all get along these days in housekeeping anyway. MN seems to attract arguments Confused!

I think it’s great that we have talked about the Facebook group and I have actually joined it but I too think that we should keep things separate. As in, advertise that there is a Facebook group if people are interested but keep MN and FB separate.

Definitely don’t want to be cliquey, lovely as you lot are Smile.

Thanks so much Hills for taking the time to post all the explanations and to SC and others for providing the history!

Glad you got back ok Cag, hope you got some rest.

How’s that for the links?

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 16/04/2019 21:40

Perfect stressy

I found them. In the underwear drawer - because where else would they be Confused

Things did and have settled, and the thread is generally pretty well balanced these days thankfully. Support to us has always been important, and the preciseness of the cleaning not so much. But I think that that is why we have lasted so long. We ebb and flow like a tide.
