Flying Resolutions for the Fledglings

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/01/2019 01:16

Ok. 1st of January.

It's a long running thread, but we like new people. Just be aware if we seem cliquey it is simply because some of us have known each other for many mumble mumble years.

Respect. We won't tell you what you are doing wrong if you don't tell us. hint if you tell us we are doing it wrong we will tell you you are wrong

Babysteps. If you are new start here. If you dropped off the fly wagon, start here. Basically start here.

Missions. Do these, if you start with the babysteps you will end up doing these during the course of the month.

Decluttering - you can't clean clutter. But experience has shown that fly lady is good for routines but there are other methods that work better for decluttering. Feel free to mix and match.

Emails - feel free sign up to them. Most of us don't because there can be a lot, ergo whilst you are welcome to sign up for them; we don't generally recommend it. especially as one of the babysteps is to delete them anyway

Linkies. We will be linking to the launch pad from there you can get to babysteps, missions, flight plans etc etc. Be aware that some don't update until the date that they are on (eg looking at the links before midnight on Monday will not show the information for Tuesday iyswim)

Meet we had blocks first.talk about try speak thru mouth of marbles to start with.ah,don't miss the dribbling and initial spittle every time she spokeGrin
Bower there's a post on FB I saw about sending pants and bras to Africa.apparently women in bras are seen as more affluent and less likely to get sexually assaultedSad

Dd2 has just taken dd1 in car to boots hunting for ambusol(sp?)apparently a stellar numbing gel for ulcers, denture issues etc.worth a try I say!

Two loads wash dry, fold and put away
Every one fed lunch
Washed up

Stairs need a hoover.bit fearful of hairy stairs the sequel..........Grin

Cagliostro · 02/01/2019 16:14

Blimey you lot are chatty.

I’m thoroughly exhausted today. Brain and body not working. Still keeping up with the diary notes but there’s much less on the activity list than yesterday!

Bowerbird5 · 02/01/2019 16:45

Got kicked off before posting.

zoo ha! I was looking at that ‘smalls for all’. Site is down though and links don’t work properly.

cags seems like it🙂

foxessocks · 02/01/2019 17:14

bower I've sent bras there before too , someone local to me collects them and posts them off in one go which I think is a good way of doing it.

MogTheSleepyCat · 02/01/2019 17:42

Good evening everyone,

Everyone seems very chatty and productive. I'm another who had a 'plate' style / removal brace as a teen and it was fine. I noticed it on the day / day after I had to tighten it, but got used to it easily enough.

Ta Da:
Cats and DS fed
DW on
Tumble drier on
Work 5.5 hrs
Unloaded DW
Some admin, booking appts etc

My washer/drier has died. DH checked the fuse, but not the issue. I've rung a few repair people who advise that it is likely the main power board in the machine which will be uber expensive to replace. Fortunately, we have the one from our old house in the garage.

The moral of the story? Do not do any washing on NYD....

Bowerbird5 · 02/01/2019 19:06

Oh foxes could you ask them if the address online is still usable?

Well zoo warned you!
I have done three loads today and have found some to go in with an orange top. Still on the black, blue , purple washes. DD and I seem to wear a lot of that colour. I have to do sheets but need DD to strip the bed for me and she went out and isn’t back yet. I might wash them tomorrow. She started soup so it has cooled and I blitzed it. So ready to heat and eat. I made a toastier before on the hot plate and fancied another half as I cut it found a cm of mould on the crust ugh! Hope I am not poorly from eating old bread. Didn’t notice any on what I ate so hope there was just that bit.
Need to run vacuum over floor.

I don’t put tree down until twelfth night either. It didn’t go up till the 22/23 rd so not sick of it and as not real there are no needles dropping this year.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/01/2019 19:55

Welcome Groovie Smile.

Thinking good thoughts about braces for all of you.

Productive day here!

I was at work where I had an admin type day and got loads done so feel organised for a few seconds the start of the year now Smile. Since DH was at home with the kids I also managed to nip to the vets after work to get flea and work stuff for the cat (just routine prevention meds) and also into town where I swapped a Christmas present for the correct size and sorted out another present.

DH has been sickeningly efficient with DDs and they have cleaned the house, taken down almost all Xmas decs and done a mini food shop Shock. Plus we have had a fab ready meal tea Grin.

Tomorrow I have some childfree time, some will be a physio appt for my feet but I also plan to change all bedsheets and get a few bits from Aldi. Plus try to have a mini rest as still have a cold.

Big wing flaps to all, going to try to sort some laundry which is still a problem!

foxessocks · 02/01/2019 20:15

I'll see if I can find out bower!

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2019 21:03

stressy thanks for the reminder my furries need flea treatment!!

Slightlycoddled · 02/01/2019 22:20

A warm welcome to Groovie!

So sorry you are still feeling so grim Eustachia.

Like Cag I feel utterly exhausted today, beyond tired and in to realms of illness. To add insult to injury I had to endure some very snide comments about my "low energy levels" and whether I have "yuppie flu" from guest. I felt so bad that I left the room, walked across field and sat on a log and cried. I think my energy levels would improve immensely if only I could have some privacy and time alone, away from constant judging, adverse criticism and superior comments that start with "well we were brought up to do X, Y, or Z" not to mention constant tidying up after them. Heigh ho.

Ta da:
walked dogs twice
steam cleaned bathroom floor
felt crap

I must say Bower that being rather portly currently, falling down underwear is not a problem I encounter very often Xmas Grin

Sorry for the moan but I love Christmas and I'm not feeling terribly enthusiastic about the new year. In fact I am really dreading a lot of what is to come. Tried to watch an episode of Kondo to get me in to the Flying spirit but just found it incredibly tedious I'm afraid. There's no hope for me is there?

Somewhat despondent (sorry) wing flaps to all!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/01/2019 22:27

Happy to help zoo Grin

SC Flowers. I like socialising but today is the first day in a while without guests and I had some time alone at work. Felt so much better! You have had guests and all that work for so long, it’s no wonder you are starting to feel it Wine.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/01/2019 22:46

ta da
folding of already washing clothes
3 loads through washer
packed ds' stuff
dropped ds off
Ikea
Asda
Make large batch of macroni cheese - portion into work lunch size portions and leave to cool
Make large batch of cornbeef hash - portion into work lunch size portions and leave to cool
Remake bed

Not bad considering I was out the house for 5hrs and I didn't start until this afternoon.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/01/2019 22:49

Oh Sc! FIrstly you are far more patient than I. 2ndly thank fuck someone else who is not on the MK train. Personally I think her particularly bonkers and wonder what personal/mental health issues are underlying this. might be because I am crafter and she would never understand the concept of stash

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 02/01/2019 22:51

Zoo hope that they found ambesol, it is fucking marvelous stuff and I swear by it. Cures mouth ulcers quick (ds gets a lot) and was a wonder drug when I lost half a tooth. Kept it numb enough to cope until I could get treated by the dentist a week later.

OP posts:
MercuryRising · 02/01/2019 23:11

Thought I would quickly catch up on the thread before a relatively early night. Since ds was born I rarely get to sleep before 1.

I completed my to do list today so I'm feeling positive ... now I just need to stay on the flywagon Hmm

SC I am cross on your behalf. Why do people feel the need to be so rude?! I am always impressed by all the hosting you do throughout the year. I would struggle to do everything you do. Please ignore these comments and don't let them upset you.

Slightlycoddled · 02/01/2019 23:21

Thank you for kind words everyone. Much appreciated. Feeling a bit fragile tonight.

Very impressive that you managed to finish your to do list with such a tiny baby Mercury (and having had guests too).

Your lists are both very impressive too Hills and Toostressy!

In fact everyone on here seems impressively busy!

Hills each to their own but I think I gave up on the Kondo book when she started organising carrots upright in the fridge Grin. That sounds so ludicrous now that I am wondering whether I imagined it ... Confused

Cagliostro · 02/01/2019 23:30

Where was DH when this was being said? Did he stick up for you? 😡 I do wonder if you have an H problem not a health problem 😡

Made it out the house today but that’s about my only achievement beyond a couple of phone calls. Also have been helping DSD with some uni work.

Been invited swimming tomorrow, just me so would be great child free time with a friend and I need the exercise, not sure I have the energy mind you.

MeetOnTheledge · 02/01/2019 23:33

Another non-MK devotee here. I tried it, will admit that the idea of decluttering by categories has some merit. However the vertical folding seems doomed to fail to me (everything falls over when I take something out) and I too have lots of craft stashes that I'm not letting go of.

SC - hugs, that sounds awful the way your guests are behaving. Hoping they all fuck off go home soon.

Stressy - I too felt a sense of relief at being at work today. We have another set of guests staying, but DD and I were already going out tonight so DH has been hosting (they are his side of the family).

Zoo another vote of confidence for anbesol, its great stuff.

Tada!

Emails etc and diary over a cuppa in bed
Washing on
Swish and swipe
Bins out
Made packed lunch
Dropped DS off at sports club
Work
Got petrol
Into town to pick up dry cleaning
Dinner
Panto - which was excellent, I find panto a bit hit and miss (if I'm honest often toe-curlingly awful) this was non-stop laughs.
Fed cats
Bed.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/01/2019 05:14

SC don't you dare apologise for moaning.ffs your DH needs bloody shaking til his teeth rattle!!you have bent over backwards accomodating his family for what seems like forever.tbh I'd have commited acts of violence by now.you have had patience of Saint(Saint SC does have a lovely ring to itHalo)when are they planning to fuckoff home?!Flowers
Cag enjoy swimming today
Hills very productive batch cooking, well done
Mercury getsStar as 8 wk old can be so demanding I'm amazed you are upright and coherent let alone completing flying lists for the day!
I've not ventured into who/what MK involves so have no opinion on her/that.did look at organised mum and that was so brutal (declutter a room a day for a week.erm I'd die trying achieve thatBlush)

So D's finally became so fatigued she's asleep.unfortunately snoring like a road drill due to mouth being open!!think was about 1130 she zonked so she's had a chunk of respite!!hoping yesterday was the peak of pain
Payday today.need buy dd1 birthday gift and girls both need school shoes.trip to towns in order trail fretting D's
Time for me to make plan of action(list of shops to go to in order and by time they open so we can be out of town before gets busy)

Slightlycoddled · 03/01/2019 05:22

Morning all! Woke up at 4am, it's past six here, might as well drag my sorry bones out of bed!

Meet and Cag thanks for kind words!

Meet I'm not sure when they are going, which adds to the stress.

And aye I cannot be arsed with the folding, and the gathering together of everything in same category doesn't work for me either. Living in a tall house, we have to have duplicates of the same thing on different floors or we would spend our lives going up and down stairs more than we do already!

Cag no dh didn't say a word. Angry He generally hates any sort of confrontation and it goes way back to having an extremely controlling mother family. And he isn't at his best currently. Plus when his side of the family comes, he sort of "reverts" to type (don't know how to explain this very well!) but the upshot is he becomes quite exasperatingly conveniently distant. Maybe it is old self-protective instincts kicking in, who knows, but it leaves me quite exposed.

Anyway, that's enough psycho- analytical thought for this time in the morning. Grin I have a hungry horse to feed!

Hope everyone who is feeling under par (and/or their DC) starts to feel a bit better today!

Slightlycoddled · 03/01/2019 05:31

X post Zoo - thank you - will get the brasso out to polish my halo later Grin. My thoughts are far from saintly right now though tbh!!

Very best of luck with school shoe trawl!

And arf at "hairy stairs the sequel" ! Xmas Grin

Mog meant to say earlier, hope you can get your wm sorted ok.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/01/2019 06:08

SC might actually tackle hairy stairs later.

Anyone fancy a bet on whether I get similar amount hair up?(6 empties) I'm guessing at least 2-3?!

Military planning of town Trip done
Cats fed
load wash in drier

Leaving at 740 precisely maybe ifwe are all up and on ball by them

Bbl

beepbeep321 · 03/01/2019 06:58

Hi, can I jump on.
I need this year to be the year I sort my house! I have bad habits galore and no household routine 🙈🙈 I have managed to load the dishwasher and wash up the past 3 nights though coming down to a clean kitchen. Hurrah!
Just downloaded the FlyLady app and will see how far I get! (Disclaimer - I do have a cleaner once a week so some jobs I can tick off with no effort from me!)
Today's jobs

Look at the app and begin to use it!
Wash load x 2 (trying to catch up from the days I didn't do it)
Sort out clean washing pile
Go through toy box and take out toys which can be donated to charity
Trip to town -banking, and birthday present shopping

foxessocks · 03/01/2019 07:13

Hi beep!

Sc I agree with everyone else , I couldn't say it any better really. Hope you're ok Flowers
Also - I can well believe the carrot thing 😂 I did make a bit of progress with her method and I may be bonkers myself Grin because I do like the folding but I'm inclined to believe it doesn't really work with big houses / family houses at least her book doesn't since she wrote it when she was living on her own.

That's my ramblings! Off out for my mum's birthday today with all the family. Have a good day everyone!

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/01/2019 07:13
