Flying Resolutions for the Fledglings

Ok. 1st of January.

It's a long running thread, but we like new people. Just be aware if we seem cliquey it is simply because some of us have known each other for many mumble mumble years.

Respect. We won't tell you what you are doing wrong if you don't tell us. hint if you tell us we are doing it wrong we will tell you you are wrong

Babysteps. If you are new start here. If you dropped off the fly wagon, start here. Basically start here.

Missions. Do these, if you start with the babysteps you will end up doing these during the course of the month.

Decluttering - you can't clean clutter. But experience has shown that fly lady is good for routines but there are other methods that work better for decluttering. Feel free to mix and match.

Emails - feel free sign up to them. Most of us don't because there can be a lot, ergo whilst you are welcome to sign up for them; we don't generally recommend it. especially as one of the babysteps is to delete them anyway

Linkies. We will be linking to the launch pad from there you can get to babysteps, missions, flight plans etc etc. Be aware that some don't update until the date that they are on (eg looking at the links before midnight on Monday will not show the information for Tuesday iyswim)

And is it still no egg under one?

Lovely dresser and crockery. I have a dresser with a mix of things on it including country diary plates I have our birthday months plus December as Ds2&DD share the same month and Ds1& DH another one. Some things are presents from children including an angel from a girl who is at uni now.

Well we have been decorating today. Wallpapered with the grey pussy willow and painted one wall twice. Going to check tomorrow and decide about the third. The one with most cupboards will hopefully have tiles on. It looks great.
I had to go to work for planning meeting. Two hours and gathered some things for tomorrow as teaching again, a different class but I had them last year so know them. Then normal teaching in the afternoon but been told I am getting 9 more children from another class. Don’t know where I will seat them as small classroom.

Cags bad luck not finding out. Agree it is awful having to wait.
SC lunch sounds yummy.

😬 yes DH had to have some more pudding after beef stir fry with noodles. He says it would be nice with ice cream so he can get some tomorrow as he collects DS3.
Do you want the recipe? It was so easy. Mostly store cupboard items.
Right better get to bed need to leave earlier. Icy tonight damn haven’t put the cover on car. In pjs. Thankfully DH has. Brr looks cold out there.

I wouldn’t worry about buying any jars, as I would think if they use them they would have some that they preferred, and if they don’t generally use them then they still wouldn’t IYSWIM.

Egg and all that stuff is fine now really, if you BLW it is literally just whole nuts due to choke risk (smooth peanut butter etc fine), honey due to botulism. It is a massive shift in thinking though and totally different even from when I weaned my older two.

I can’t be all smug anymore anyway, Rowan shoved her avocado away today 😂

Definitely through the worst of the withdrawal. Fucking hell. Awful times. But I feel a bit more human now.

CMHT tomorrow and I just realised that Rowan’s MMR clashes, I feel super guilty! While obviously DH is perfectly capable, he doesn’t have boobs 😂 and I’m all sad thinking of her needing comforting after the injections and me not being there (same doctors group, but different branch a bus ride away) 😰

I have to be super brave myself tomorrow and basically go in determined to get the referrals I KNOW I need and not be fobbed off. Fuck. Help. 😳

Morning!

Thanks Bower I'd love the recipe when you have a moment but no rush! Teaching & decorating sounds full on!

Noted about jars; thanks again Cag, I'm sticking with root vegetables puree! Thankfully still have an Annabel Karmel book around and a really good cookery book written by a lady chef for her toddler called Cooking for Cocoa. It will be nice revisiting! Amazing how all the advice changes so rapidly (and differs in different countries). Good luck with med appts (both yours and Cagletini's ) and glad you are through the worst of withdrawal.

Zoo hope dd2's brace tightening goes ok and she's not in too much discomfort, and good luck with sleepover decision, sounds like a tricky one!

DD went to rather gruesome modern interpretation of Macbeth last night (we were sent a letter about it) and was quite wired when she came home and didn't sleep until after 2 am and this morning first thing (8 am lesson) has to reach 12 metre target on climbing wall wearing a blindfold in gym class in order to pass (yes even wall climbing is subject to being marked and formally assessed grrrr! She is terrified of heights but at the same time says she can't wait! Grin. Have made her pancakes with maple syrup this morning for fortification purposes as she is going to try and nip home for lunch to see the babies (twins)! Smile. Her year (4ieme secondaire) wouldn't normally be allowed out of school during breaks - usually year above until they have that liberty - but there's a huge building project going on so half of school grounds out of bounds, so they all walk the streets at lunch time. This was a great novelty back in September when the weather was warm and they could visit local snack shops etc with friends. Not so much now when freezing cold and streets covered in snow so she's happy to come home for a bit (but too far to do every day).

Had better stop rambling and get on! Have a good one everybody!

Sorry, forgot main point of that ramble, which is that with DH not travelling so frequently and not flying long distance until all medical investigationscompleted, he is often coming home for lunch too, so it now feels like I am a three meal a day catering outlet! Eats up a lot of time! And that's without extra guests! Heigh ho! And onwards!

Cag good luck with your appointments today! Ime it IS standard practice to NOT give any results out until the follow up. I have had multiple checks and have never had the results until see the specialist, with the exception of 1 time when it was actually the person performing the test who had the answers to my questions and I had been sent for that purpose. The delay in results means nothing in itself.

Good luck with your visitors SC

Tad chilly here today, need to get moving and get warm!

Has anyone offered to do February, I have forgotten! If not, I'll do it.

Better press on with laundry, general tidying and decluttering. Listening to lots of motivating YouTubes while I do it, any faves you can recommend? I like How Jen Does It although she has a few too many sponsored posts for my liking now tbh.

Catch you at lunchtime with a warm bowl of soup!

Sticky toffee sponge

100g black treacle
100g golden syrup
350g plain flour
2tsp bicarbonate of soda
2tsp cinnamon
2tsp nutmeg
200g soft brown sugar
200g butter
250ml milk
2 beaten eggs
100g chopped, dried apricots or chopped crystallised ginger

Toffee sauce
200g dark brown sugar
200ml double cream
100g butter
1tsp vanilla extract

Sit treacle and syrup tins in bottom oven / dish hot water.
Line a roasting or cake tin with baking paper, lightly greased.
Place flour, bicarbonate. And dry spices into a bowl.
Melt sugar, syrup, treacle and butter in a large pan, stirring gently.
Remove from heat and allow pan to cool slightly before folding in flour mixture. Stir milk into the mixture and beat well with a wooden spoon, repeat with the beaten eggs.

Pour the mixture into the prepared tin, scatter over the apricot pieces and slide onto the top shelf. Bake for 40- 50 minuets until well risen, firm to touch and slightly shrunken sides.

I used some chopped ginger pieces too.

This is the recipe from the book.

I have succumbed to the leurgy. Started last night which was why I went to bed late. Feel like I am going to be sick. Felt bad about school but as I hadn’t had anything unusual to eat don’t think the D of the V was to do with food. Had fresh ginger and lemon drink to settle tummy worked a little. DH has painted the ceiling and small wall. It looks good although both colours have come out lighter than colour chart 🤔

bower that recipe looks so tempting and I have all the ingredients too (except the dried apricots , I have other dried fruit that might work though!) I really shouldn't make it though, I made cakes yesterday... 🍰

Zoo hope it gets sorted soon that really is crap. I feel your pain re getting very angry with the dc! I was like that with ds this morning, had to manhandle him into his coat because he was having a tantrum just as we were leaving , I felt terrible all morning Sad then picked him up from nursery and they said he was really happy today so all the screaming and crying just for me! Hmm

Our dishwasher has given up the ghost. Reminds me how much I hate washing up!

Ta da
Washing up X2
Washing on
Rubbish out
Been to shops for party bag stuff and some groceries
Made lunch for me and ds

Tonight's dinner chicken tikka masala which dd has said she wants to help with so that will be fun...Grin

bower hope you can fight off the bugs, zoo as if you wouldn't want the boiler working with very cold temps predicted for the next few days - I hope they visit today! I hate it when the dishwasher goes down foxes, washing cups and mugs always seems like a poor use of time to me.

Bit more tidying and dusting today, cleaned the bath and sink in the main bathroom, one load of laundry not hung up yet

It is cold. Stay warm, zoo Brew

zoo ❄️❄️❄️🌬zoo Zoo if they don’t turn up💨

Brrr. We are loving the Everhot as usually you can huff and see it in this weather. Hope they fix it soon zoo. Hot water bottles and blankies.

foxes I don’t think the apricots make a lot of difference. Dates are traditional here but if you have some crystallised ginger that would be enough or on its own. It makes a big tray so will do two nights with a family DS x 2 will help DH out tonight.
Yep they know how to press buttons!

We have a freezer yeah! DS1 is getting a built in fridge freezer and gave us his little one. It will have to go in the shed. After being without water for six weeks I don’t mind washing up in my new shiny sink. DH said yesterday that he forgot we had one. It is hidden but almost in the same place🙄

Sass that is really good of you to take on February thread StarHaloStar.

Thank you to Hills for managing scary January Flowers.

Bower thank you so much for taking the time to post that recipe when you are feeling rotten. Much appreciated! I hope you feel much better soon. Take it steady.

Oh no Zoo you must all be so miserable in the cold with no hot water. I wish you lived nearer so you could all kip here. In your shoes I think a leak might suddenly appear out of the blue

Gah re: DW Foxes what a nuisance! I hate being without one so totally understand your frustration especially with little 'uns!

How is the weather with you Lisette?

Vigorous wing flaps to everyone else!

Entertaining went well so thanks again for all the tips! Totally beguiling and delightful mini guests did indeed bring their own provisions but went home with my puree so all bases covered! Had to take furries for longer walk afterwards to make up for being separated from us for a couple of hours (locked them in separate room with beds/blankets/toys/provisions for duration of visit) as never take risks with visiting dc. They were rather indignant at missing a nice lunch though Grin No other Flying done other than two loads washing! Hopeless! Did cook tomorrow's cod with pea and broccoli puree though as we are now eating out tomorrow night. Tired so in bed with the Yorkshire vets atm. G'night all!

Oh yes, DD only made it to 11.5m (0.5m short) on climbing wall so she has to go through it all again next week, the rotters! She sort of loves/hates it though so not the end of the world, just wish they would offer an inkling of praise for effort occasionally, so negative! Gah!

She is making Mary Berry's coffee and walnut mini cakes atm for a friend's birthday. It's great, after years of careful supervision, when one can can finally leave the offspring to cook alone and get on with it by themselves and then eat the results! Grin. It won't be long now Foxes! Wink
