Flying Resolutions for the Fledglings

Ok. 1st of January.

It's a long running thread, but we like new people. Just be aware if we seem cliquey it is simply because some of us have known each other for many mumble mumble years.

Respect. We won't tell you what you are doing wrong if you don't tell us. hint if you tell us we are doing it wrong we will tell you you are wrong

Babysteps. If you are new start here. If you dropped off the fly wagon, start here. Basically start here.

Missions. Do these, if you start with the babysteps you will end up doing these during the course of the month.

Decluttering - you can't clean clutter. But experience has shown that fly lady is good for routines but there are other methods that work better for decluttering. Feel free to mix and match.

Emails - feel free sign up to them. Most of us don't because there can be a lot, ergo whilst you are welcome to sign up for them; we don't generally recommend it. especially as one of the babysteps is to delete them anyway

Linkies. We will be linking to the launch pad from there you can get to babysteps, missions, flight plans etc etc. Be aware that some don't update until the date that they are on (eg looking at the links before midnight on Monday will not show the information for Tuesday iyswim)

Hello all, thanks for new thread Hills Smile.

No flying indended here today. I feel horrible and in-laws here all day anyway. House is manageable but clean laundry everywhere and still lots of Xmas things lying everywhere. Can hear DD2 asking MIL lots of difficult questions about death so best go and help Grin.

Cagliostro · 01/01/2019 12:18

:o poor cats :o

I’ve had a productive couple of hours by my standards. Low standards help

I’ve decided to keep three notes on my phone. Food/drink diary. Housework/activity diary. Food spends diary. All three things I need to work on so hoping being accountable and mindful on all three will be a success.

We’ve had a bit of a tidy up together with the Caglets (DH had to start work early but he’s home earlier too) and DD just did a bit of washing up. She showed DS how to do it too so he’s going to try a bit later. Bit nervous of this as he is The World’s Clumsiest Kid. But I’m reluctant to get DD to do it regularly but not him, yes she is older but it also subtly shows a “girls do more housework” dynamic and no way do I want to encourage that.

Chilling listening to an old muse album on Spotify now while DD does her iPad work - back to some semblance of routine I hope, still classed as holidays but they get extra screen time if they do it on non school days. We took all limits off for Christmas week due to the new PlayStation but no way can we do that long term.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/01/2019 12:23

meet scoutcat loved bloody tumble drier as did his dearly missed brother atticus.you take one item out, turn back and blighters in there getting comfy on warm fresh laundry.atticys specialised in sneaking in with muddy paws....

MeetOnTheSIedge · 01/01/2019 14:29

Our tumble dryer is in the shed, they don't seem to have twigged, although they do follow me into the shed sometimes, have to be careful not to lock one in there. I took the sheets of my bed this morning and found muddy cat pawprints at the end where they jump up. They will also make a nest for themselves on a pile of clean laundry any time there's one available most days

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/01/2019 14:58

Sounds like my furry rabble meet
In an emergency (is no clean piles) something on zoolets floordrobes that's not to smelly will suffice but fresh jumpers/towels are a particular favourite!!

Actually washed up lunch things as soon we had finished eating rare
Swept and tidy the hall

There's a list as long as my arm I could be doing but......

Cagliostro · 01/01/2019 15:15

Productive day so far. How long will the new year motivation last though is the real question 🤔

Slightlycoddled · 01/01/2019 16:36

Hi all! Hope everyone enjoying the new fresh year!

Narrowly escaped being squashed and barged in to a barn door by a herd of squabbling feisty nags early this morning which certainly gets the adrenalin going! Next time I will remember to have them penned before I bring in the feed buckets! One lives and learns!

Neighbours have been and gone (made Mary Berry mincemeat loaf cake; very easy!) but I'm discovering that Francophones, although very polite, are not (generally speaking) bowled over by lots of dried fruit in things. Heigh ho!

Lunch was good though; small cup pumpkin soup, followed by roasted cod fillets with salad and tiny thin chips, and white wine. Followed by a buche de Noel (from bakery).

Hills Guests have announced they are staying longer because dh, although ok, is still not "right" somehow. He's just not himself at all. Hard to explain. Worried.

This is hard (desperate for breathing space and time alone and telly off and cessation to endless talking) but also reassuring at same time, so shouldn't complain, and should be grateful really!

Sorry you had such a bad night and are feeling so rough Hills. Hope you feel better as day goes on.

Meet I'm the same as you as decs don't come down until 12th night here (only go up late) but very impressed by fledglings like Shannara Zoo and others who have started packing them away already! Our house looks horribly bare without them.

Oh and Meet and Zoo muddy paw prints on bed linen definitely an issue here too; have no idea how it happens when the furries are not allowed in the bedrooms but are currently snoring away on dhs and my duvet Xmas Hmm

Sorry you are feeling so grim Toostressy, hope you feel better soon!

Huge wing flaps to everyone else!

Slightlycoddled · 01/01/2019 16:38

Meant to say Cag you sound very organised and on top of things Star

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/01/2019 16:57

Oh,have you got recipe for the cake SC have some mincemeat left over!

Cagliostro · 01/01/2019 17:06

Organised 😂😂😂 well, I am pretending for the day but I’m not expecting much beyond that 😳😳😳

I’m really hungry. Not much food in till tomorrow.

Slightlycoddled · 01/01/2019 17:57

Zoo

Mary Berry mincemeat loaf cake (sold at farmers' markets across the country apparently).

150g soft butter
150g light muscovado sugar
2 large eggs
225g SR flour
225g mincemeat
100g currants
100g sultanas
50 g blanched split almonds

2 loaf tins 17 X 11 cm-ish

Pre-heat oven 160°c.
Grease tins and line with baking parchment.

Measure all ingreds except almonds in to large bowl & beat well until thoroughly blended. (I used electric hand beater.). Turn in to tins. Level off. Arrange almonds on top.

Bake in pre-owned oven for one and a quarter hours or until cakes golden brown, firm to touch, skewer comes out clean. Allow to cool in tins for a few mins. Loosen from tins with small palette knife if necessary. Cool on cooling rack.

(I added dash of milk cos my eggs were small and mixture seemed a bit thick.)

Slightlycoddled · 01/01/2019 18:03

Oh yes Zoo I also put a wee grating of lemon rind in too.

foxessocks · 01/01/2019 18:18

Ooh I might pinch that mincemeat cake recipe too! I have a jar to use.

Have jumped back on the fly lady wagon today

Ta da
Dishwasher emptied
Meal plan for next week
Food shop online for next week
Cleaned trainers
Tidied porch
Took Xmas tree down and put rest of decs away
Cooked dinner - veggie chilli with mini jacket potatoes (because that was the only size I had!)
15 minutes decluttering living room
Wiped bathroom over
Tidied after dinner
Dishwasher on
Watched the railway children with dd

That wasn't really in any particular order but despite still having this cold (when will it go away?!) I've had a nice day. Dh back to work tomorrow though. Not sure what we'll do yet, think we have hair cuts but that's about it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 01/01/2019 19:28

SC thank you!
Dd2 is really struggling so I've not got anything to report really.shes using her laptop to pick episodes fave show to stream once sister acts finished on TV

Just off to get my supper and puree hers to a fine paste to be gingerly added per half teaspoon into mouthSad

EustaciaVye · 01/01/2019 19:29

Happy New Year everyone.
I have been in bed all day poorly so have nothing but watch tv. Kids have been good and left me alone.
Hope your husband is ok sc

foxessocks · 01/01/2019 19:32

Look what I've found to watch Grin www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3466207-marie-kondo-programme-netflix

foxessocks · 01/01/2019 19:32

Sorry link didn't work www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts/3466207-marie-kondo-programme-netflix

Slightlycoddled · 01/01/2019 20:09

Sorry you are feeling ill Eustacia hope you feel better soon!

Hope your dd2's tooth/brace discomfort eases soon Zoo!

Oh no to MK on Netflix! This I have to see!

foxessocks · 01/01/2019 20:12

sc I thought it was going to make me feel bad about my attempt at Marie kondo which was only half way successful but actually it's pretty reassuring - she has children of her own now and has admitted she sometimes goes to sleep instead of sorting stuff out and she does have clutter sometimes!!

Slightlycoddled · 01/01/2019 20:15

Well thank heavens for that Foxes! She is human after all! Xmas Grin

Hope your cold clears up soon!

Cagliostro · 01/01/2019 20:38

I may have watched two episodes of that today 😳
