Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Get a tea towel and put it over them if you are squimish. about touching them. They will usually try to fly towards the window.

foxessocks · 23/08/2018 07:55

sc whilst I'd love to see a bat that close maybe not in my bedroom...

I really need to get up and get cleaning as guests coming fairly early and the dc not even awake yet! Trying to decide the least likely option to wake them...jump in the shower or go downstairs and start tidying and cleaning directly under their bedrooms. Hmm.

To do
Tidy tidy tidy
Clean the bathrooms
Tidy tidy tidy some more

I decluttered one jewellery box yesterday evening , just a few more small boxes to go. Dh has varnished my new jewellery shelf thing so just got to put hooks on and put it up now.

Ok I'm going to go for tidying as I think that's quieter than the shower pump starting up right next to dd bedroom!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2018 08:14

I'd never try shower if didn't want wake kids, houses naturally creak a little so you shuffling a little shouldn't be as bigger issue as heat cranking(if your house like mine, run taps in bathroom delightful juddering noise kicks in)foxes jewellery organisation sounds good!good luck with guests

SC when I lived near the lake -&and had rats in loft-- we had bats circle the culture dear sac I lived in at dusk in summer.i lived to sit on the doorstep and watch them.in my house.erm no thanks!!!

Tada
Wash on
Bleach lav
Fed cats
Continue the front room declutter(one corner near and clear!!!!
All holiday wash done, suitcase empty sand tip outside and put back upstairs
Breakfast made for zoolets
Pack ups for D's and dd2- one churches in our group run holiday club one week of hols.they are volunteering as the adult to child ratios fine but they need helpers for cutting out, playing etc.dd2 went yesterday and declared caring kids exhausting and not sure wants any her own...I said I had 3 under 5 at one point and stroppy pre/teens are much harder in some ways and Ive survived just ,stop moaning and suck it upGrin

To do
More decluttering front room
Clean kitchen
Sort side of house garden(overgrown bushes and brambles)
Help lil zoo sort her cupboard and drawers(now it's decorated she wants her side 109%organised so she can keep on top of it and know where everything is!

Right must rally troups.we need leave in 10 to drop at other church and j need grab loo rolls on way home!!

Bbl

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2018 08:15

Wtf is a culture dear sac?!
My phone is on one today,of course that's CUL DE SAC

HonkyWonkWoman · 23/08/2018 08:26

Ha! That confused me Zoo culture dear sac it sound like something MRS Bouquet would say!😂
Had a quick wizz round at mine this morning but that's it for today as off to Dd right now!
Wing flaps to all......
Oh! Just thought! Bats! Cute! 😂

Cagliostro · 23/08/2018 09:02

Oooh I love bats 🦇

Rather unmotivated yesterday, we did get a few little bits done but meh. I’m just wondering how much we can get done by the end of the month really. Also trying to work out what day to start “term time”, I have no idea when schools go back round here! Also we are going to DSD’s uni city early next month so am not sure whether to completely leave it until after that.

The main thing is though, the nice BT man came yesterday and now we have internet and I can use my iPad again! Woooooooo!

Bowerbird5 · 23/08/2018 09:07

Eh rats. I can't cope with rats of any sort.

We have bats in the house...attic. Rather see a bat than a rat any day. I have had to remove them occasionally if I have had kitchen door or a window open and they have flown in. Quite interesting when you get hold of them.
I don't go up into the attic.
Ideally I would like to board out a room up there and leave the bats up one end. We box everything that goes up because you do get a bit of bat shit on it.

MsForestier · 23/08/2018 09:32

Grin culture dear sac.

I live in one at the moment. No bats, rats, mice or wasps'. Only moles but I can handle them.

MsForestier · 23/08/2018 09:34

Am clearing out kitchen cupboards if anyone's looking for me!

Trying to gauge how much cupboard space I need if we were to organise a new kitchen.

I had no idea I'd so much lunch box type stuff...

Cagliostro · 23/08/2018 09:49

Moles! I've never seen one.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2018 09:55

mrsforester lunchbox stuff are we talking Tupperware, cos if we are that BREEDS in cupboards whilst your back turns.downside is it breeds lids at twice the rate of boxes in my cupboards anyway

Honky hyacinth probably would call it a culture dear sac😂

Cag depends how on top of the house you are if things are ticking over is probably consider week beg 3rd or week after?but benefit HE is you can choose whatever fits best for you guys

Tada
Drop DS n dd2 at other church, pop in heron foods (as we walk past it)for loo rolls and may have added couple multipacks chocolate to the basket
Wash in drier(towels)
Dark load in

foxessocks · 23/08/2018 10:30

It's only when I try and clean really thoroughly for visitors that I realise how much there is to do. All the window frames and door frames are filthy. Everything needs painting. Dh has done skirting boards, a door and some shelves but still so much to do. I've been focusing on the decluttering and in the meantime everything has got grimy! expecting visitors any minute and I've given up to sit with ds for a cuddle. He is tired and grumpy so fingers crossed for a nap later!

Ta da
Deep cleaned kitchen sides, kitchen trays, windowsill etc
Cleaned back windows
Hoovered all of downstairs
Took lots of toys upstairs
Tidied dc bedrooms
Cleaned both bathrooms
Put washing on
Hung washing up
Dishwasher on
Washing up
Rubbish out

There is however a lot of random stuff dumped in our bedroom. Humph. Hope all this decluttering starts paying off soon. Clothes have stayed pretty good although not quite as neatly folded anymore but still no ironing pile. Airing cupboard is still fairly tidy . Dc bedrooms are pretty tidy and all the toys are still going back to the right places at the end of the day. But just still so much to get through!

Spreadingcudweed · 23/08/2018 10:32

Poor Lil Zoo!! Sad Hope she feels better soon!

Well the bats flew out the window eventually of their own accord, after about 40 mins of running around with mops and brooms and towels in the middle of the night! (Thanks for tips Bower!). At least we think they did, because the dog stopped going crazy and there was nothing flapping around the room any more, but none of us saw them fly out ifysim, although we left the front door open too. We checked the room very thoroughly this morning and there is no evidence of them anyway!

Seeing lots of moles ATM Cag as the furry is a master hunter! He can only catch those that are already incapacitated in some way, and we have to be very careful to not let him have them because the farmers use poison around here. Some times he is too quick though! But usually they are two quick for him! I also saw the rear end of a mink the other day as it crossed the road and dived under a berberis! Beautiful shiny black fur! There is an owl living nearby too, several toads, millions of huge hares (their speed is incredible but I also love their relaxed loping "canter") and I'm amazed how their fur matches the now cut grass exactly. We also have partridges (family of twelve), some sort of hawk, and lots of pheasants nearby. And of course the swallows are constantly circling and diving in and out of barn windows at incredible speed!

Bloody hell just typing this and dog has injury got to go!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2018 11:15

Wow SC I can see with so much beauty around you why you hold you rustic country pile so dearly!

Tada
Scrub around tumble dryer/scoutcat bowl (filthy animal been flicking wet meat under t.d.wondered why kitchen smelt even after us empty bins

Cagliostro · 23/08/2018 11:47

I just sorted the Christmas decorations! They’ve been in a couple of jumbled boxes so I’ve sorted the lot, chucked a few broken bits and rehomed/chucked various things that had somehow ended up in the boxes. Have cleaned out a decent box with a lid and will repack once dry, with bubble wrap where necessary. Probably not the most necessary job today but at least it’s done and they can be moved to the shed.

Next stop, laundry! And DH has swept the stairs and hall.

Spreadingcudweed · 23/08/2018 11:53

Sorry! Dog is fine! He obviously stood on something sharp and injured his paw. Came inside limping and slouching and eye rolling. He is very quick to temper when he is in pain so we handled him with caution but dh got bitten on the back of his hand (not too badly). Called neighbour who gave us numbrr of nearest small animal vet 10 mins down road, saw us straight away. Bit tricky getting dog in car as we darent handle him but fortunately he followed us in! Vet has been practicing in village for 26 years and told us about the family that used to live in wreck2. Told us where there graves are and that one left to live in US and became advisor to president but not sure which one!!

Anyway, country life is proving to a bit stressful currently! Dhorse was very bolshy indeed last night and "feeling his oats" (not that we are feeding him that. Carted dd off and then aimed kick at dh's back (happily missed but could have been nasty) and then charged fence (stopped 2 CMS in front of electric fencing). Very uncharacteristic behaviour but he doesn't appear to be ill or in pain but getting equine vet to check just in case.

As for Flying have been tidying (constantly) and catching up with washing back log. Bower our new wm bizarrely plays a tune when it's finished!! Good windy drying weather. Also cleaning kitchen (constant) and washing up (ditto). Had sausages last night with mash and onion gravy. Chsna masala tonight (if I get my act together ). Also did rubbish yesterday and recycling.

Need to clean back windows today!

Sorry for lack of personals and "me" "me" post/thread hogging! But full on here ATM!

foxessocks · 23/08/2018 12:15

Sounds very full on sc hope horse / dog all ok!

Visitors have been and gone. Invited us out to lunch with them but I declined as ds is so tired and grumpy it would have just been stressful. He needs a nap! And to be honest I need him to have a nap too and just have a little bit of peace this afternoon. Would really like to get on with some more decluttering too.

Cagliostro · 23/08/2018 14:25

Our dryer does that too, it’s a Samsung. First time we used it we thought someone’s phone was going off and all visitors think the same if they hear it!

Got nothing else done despite baby napping. I did watch some more of a new film though (subtitled so needs concentration which doesn’t come easily to me!) while the Caglets went to the shop. So nice that they can do that now.

I should really get on with stuff but I am very tired!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2018 15:10

Tada
Not only did I clear most of front garden on bindweed and brambles(thru liner.ahouls just be purple slate out there!!) But I also attacked side house like I was hacking a thicker thru the rainforest😂I'd already filled bin doing front so I stacked it against edge.when I started it was as high as me(5ft 3ish) and some brambles as thick as me wrist but I kept snip away and shazzar I have cleared it!!!!!I found my peony bush and another small shrub(unknown what is) along with the forsythia that's been MIA this year..

MsForestier · 23/08/2018 15:34

Sorted kitchen. Need a little more space if redesigning but have a better idea of what I have now. I have a lot of baking gear and mixers etc. A non baker would probably have enough room.

Also sorted under the stairs and detergents. You'd think I was prepping for grime zombies.

MsForestier · 23/08/2018 15:35

Pork, spuds, butternut squash tonight. Probably dauphinoise potatoes.

foxessocks · 23/08/2018 16:02
