Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2018 19:05

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

August’s habit is laundry

Happy flying everyone.

Washing on

Bowerbird5 · 24/08/2018 13:43

Oh thanks foxes
Ta da
dishwasher on(it is the middle of the kitchen so we are hoping it doesn't flood.New washing machine and dishwasher cant both fit into space! So far so good.Been hand washing up.

Bowerbird5 · 24/08/2018 13:45

de clutter my purse is a possibility but car day no chance it is persisting down in sheets of water not rain. DD is waiting to be picked up and the idea of camping is losing it's appeal. It might be better in the Lakes ha ha as if!

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2018 15:15

Oh,camping in water/ in a raft!she could start a whole new trend bower😂
I've snuck in a nap due to my silly o'clock start.ready to get up and crack on trting to make it sound like I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed when in reality I need another couple hours!!

NCasIknowMNetters · 24/08/2018 15:57

Still haven't read the flylady stuff... but I KNOW...

Sink has had the crap shined out of it. Laundry is ready to hang, but the sky is darkening and I have the duvet out there drying at the mo. Might have to get the heated-airer out.

I've also gone through a shelf and chucked out anything past best before date lurking at the back, and prioritised things just out/going in the next month.

Any Tahini recipes? Whole jar of the stuff with 09/2018 and I hate making houmous.

Kids are now arguing. Will sort, then have a coffee and read all this.

Cagliostro · 24/08/2018 16:12

Welcome NCas :) but sorry I can’t help with the tahini. I am only just getting my cooking mojo back now that we’ve moved somewhere with a kitchen bigger than a matchbox. Flying extractors notwithstanding of course.

I am very unproductive today. It is weird not having to rush round in a panic trying to make space because there actually is space already.

I’m going to wander to the shops shortly though as there were a few bits DH forgot. And I need to get out for a bit. And chocolate. Yeah I need chocolate.

In further “previous tenants were twits” news (the extractor was hung on a couple of tiny nails that was it!) DH also went up to see why the TV signal is shit... and discovered there is an external aerial plugged in... in the attic.

I finished watching the film and reading my book, problem is I got so into it I ignored everyone for ages. Also though I have, I suppose, started a control journal of sorts. At least, I wrote all the housework jobs I could think of - from obvious stuff like vacuuming to things like descaling the kettle and doing maintenance washes - and am trying to figure out how often they need doing.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 24/08/2018 16:21

Welcome Ncas

Cags control journal is my next thing. Well done for starting. We moved to a bigger house in December and it's great to have more space.

Today I sorted the whole garden and took a car load to the dump. DH redoing the whole garden next week. Lovely new patio slabs arrived today and they are beautiful!

My sink has been shinning for weeks now and I am very proud of myself. I also thought, why put off until tomorrow what you can do today. So I have slowly started decluttering instead of just waiting until the kids are back at school. Also been looking at 'The Organised Mum Method's looks good. A lot like Fly lady but more condensed I would say. She gets all her jobs done in a week rather than a month.

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2018 16:21

NC
*Banana flapjack bites
*Add to smoothies(about 1-2 TSP)for hit essential fats and calcium
*deliciously Ella does a tahini dressing?
*Banana and tahini sandwiches(TSP per banana mush together)
*Add to chop frozen banana and couple dates to make "nice" cream

I'm sure there are more ideas I have written down.will get back to you!

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2018 16:23

Oh and cags well done on big list chores to be done and start figure out how often.i know that's a big step.i still ropey with less obvious stuff flylady isn't telling me when to doGrin

Spreadingcudweed · 24/08/2018 17:08

A warm welcome to Ncas and hi again to Cucumber! (Well done re: consistent flying!)

"It is weird not having to rush round in a panic trying to make space because there actually is space already." This is totally brilliant Cag; well done you!!

Sorry to hear about the anaemia Zoo no wonder you have been feeling rotten! And I think (but not certain) anaemia can cause palpitations can't it? Anyway, Floradix is good as are chickpeas, broccoli as I am sure you already know! Hope the tablets help you to feel better soon x

Ditto Honky we really want to get downstairs in wreck1 redecorated before Christmas as it hasn't been done for nearly two decades and looks shocking frankly Blush. It might have to be in the NY though. (Decorations cover a multitude of sins!!) Enjoy your child-free time!

Sorry about your favourite top Foxes, it is so easily done!

Bummer about wm MsForestier!

Hills Dhorse and ddog fine now thanks for asking and no more bats!! Unfortunately dh's hand has got infected from dog bite (despite thorough washing in Dettol etc) so he is on antibiotics.

Aside from that, we are all generally feeling much relieved and reassured here. Had dd's riding tutor (semi-professional dressage rider who runs riding school locally) and she has pronounced dhorse a sound purchase and basically a kind guy! Phew! Was beginning to doubt myself there for a moment!! But he is very stressed on his own and hasn't developed a strong enough relationship with us yet to be without an equine companion here yet, hence bolshiness, and we are going to have to somehow arrange that he has one when he is here; which I knew we would have to do at some point (not fair to keep him on his own especially as he is a very sociable horse with humans and animals). As this is impossible to sort now before beginning of term,
we have decided he must head back to his equine friends on Sunday morning (very sad for us but better for him and only a week earlier than he would be going back already) and tutor will start giving dd lessons there twice a week from start Sept. He will also be ridden by the farmer there and be getting sufficient exercise and not loafing most of the day eating rich grass and getting bolshy (which she said most horses would do in these circs; and he's a big strong lad). All of which I thought was the case but it's nice to have it confirmed by a pro!! Confidence restored!!

Ta da:
washing up by hand
cleaning of kitchen
sweeping of kitchen
2 loads laundry and hung up to dry
quick trip to supermarket
and quick trip to local town with dd to H & M because it's getting colder and she forgot to bring long trousers with her fhs!!
washed the hairy feathers black feathers legs of dhorse x 4!! First with shampoo, then brushing with talc etc!! Took ages!! He stood beautifully I have to say!!

Cheery wing flaps to everyone else!

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2018 17:15

I forgot to add tadas!!
Cleaned a couple boxes in my kitchen cupboard (one had quinoa and millet flakes over bottom.other had a toppled jar honey leaking and mix bag sugar.it wasn't pretty and I'm glad we haven't had ant issues this year!! but still battling fecking moths)
Decluttered half of D's plastic drawers-he stores such a mix of random crap-discarded moshi monster rubber bracelets, odd stones/pebbles-if he actually wanted pretty/unusual ones and we varnish them,ok.but just fills a draw random bits found on his travels..he agreed to allow them to be "freed" into the bottom of the garden!!Grin
Broken mlp with heads switched and haircuts/dodgy facial markings added(moustaches, eye patches, weird scars a la Frankenstein/Halloween) with Sharpies --that had been sneaked into the premises after an incident of furniture writing a long time back these are contraband (unless kept downstairs and used under supervision-which has made them loose all appeal for now!!),remnants of busted toys...
Anyhoo we now have have a draw scooby doo characters mix Indiana Jones ones and one drawer of dinosaurs,so we can ditch them in favour few little plastic baskets or smarter boxes that will slot into the four square cube storage under his bed

Be starting little ones tea soon.im thinking beefburgers with green beans and carrot and couscous with lots parsley and a sprinkle roasted sunflower seeds
Pud-yogurt and berries
Veggie option-butternut squash and mushroom risotto with side of green beans and broccoli

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/08/2018 17:28

Glad dog and horse are ok SC and that horse is just being a bit lovely because he's lonesome.be lovely to get riding lessons underway for DD sept.things are starting to come together!!
Sorry about DH hand.i was very lucky when I got bitten I didn't end up infected as I got bitten right down side of my nail was gaping for a while and needed dressing but they don't stitch in UK anymore as seals in any infection...tip finger still numb near 2years on!!hope the antibiotics sort him.keep close eye(not that you need telling)as sometimes it takes a few types get right one so I'm told
floridaxive heard of this before on MN-a tonic?and can I take that and mega dose iron together?might look into that..and yes palpitations are possible as bloods diverted to digestion and my lovely lack oxygen in it can cause all manner of things apparently...I've been asked wanted a mirena coil fitted as periods are cause of aneamia-my dear old ma god rest her soul was in iron most adult life.i tried coil after lil zoo.oh.my.goodness.i became pms queen from hell 24/7.at 6 weeks I was beg them take it out as pains still as bad too and they said no you have to give it time I went back at 8months with my best harpy face and snap take it out or I rip it out myself in my most attractive possessed by pms demons voice.as I was still in pain each month and having light bleeds too it was granted.ive heard many stories since of pms monsters on it,despite be assured at time that wouldn't be case so I was like erm no thanks....

HillsBesideTheSea · 24/08/2018 19:19

I had crumpets for tea on the basis I couldn't burn down the kitchen making them BlushGrin

I know my limits. I am just tired. Up my activity levels a lot recently and body not adjusted yet. Perk of CFS and fibro. So tend to be more grumpy during the transition between activity levels. On a plus activity levels are significantly higher than what I could manage 2 years ago, and also just a year ago. So that is nice. Sleep is a healer.

MercuryRising · 24/08/2018 19:44

I have been a bit preoccupied for the last week and have been doing minimal flying. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at the beginning of the week and put on insulin yesterday so have been trying to get my head around what to eat. I did have it with ds2 so know it's doable but have found it stressful.

Today though I realised it is only a week until we go back to school and I really need to start all the decluttering I promised myself I would do. So with dds I did all of the ironing, decluttered the shoe rack and coats and the under the stairs cupboard. 6 black bags later it looks so much better.

I have had a quick read of the thread but will catch up properly later. Bower it must be such a relief to have a wm again.

SassitudeandSparkle · 24/08/2018 23:12

Hi all, welcome NC - no tahini clues from me, sorry. Have been to the chazzer again today (charity shop) and bought yet another cookbook (I am not short of these and have two very plain eaters in the house). This book (Hairy Bikers Family Cookbook) may suit them more, DH is already drooling over a sausage plait Hmm Not exactly healthy eating but a lot of it does look tasty tbh!

DD is OK, seems to have been just a one-off episode of vomiting. Looking forward to a stormy Bank Holiday weekend, I've been out tonight and it was so cold I had to put the heater on in the car on the way home!

DD is starting secondary school this year, so have had brief chat with her about getting a proper desk for her bedroom with storage for all her books/school stuff. I don't think she realises how much stuff there is going to be!

Mercury I had missed your news - congrats! I can see that the DG would be stressful though, are they keeping an eye on you? Or quizzing you every time you see the midwife, more likely! 6 black bags of stuff is awesome!

Cagliostro · 24/08/2018 23:53

Mercury have you been on the gestational diabetes UK Facebook group, it is brilliant for food ideas, I had GD with Cagletini.

TBF sc it’s mostly due to just moving that we have more space, sometimes I don’t really feel like we’ve earned the right to feel proud of how much tidier and visitor ready it is. But then we have done a fair bit... I dunno.

ta da
✅wrote control journal type list
✅supervised DS laundry
✅quick shopping trip (motivated by chocolate)
✅reading
✅finished concentrating on film (left somewhat baffled)
✅put more box lids in cupboard
✅cleared a few emails, unsubscribed from things
✅started looking for dentist but I’m annoyed as I swear there was something where you could email with specific requirements, rather than just a basic NHS postcode search.
✅game night, definitely family fun!

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/08/2018 07:05

Spreadingcudweed · 25/08/2018 07:52

Morning!

Sorry to hear about gd Mercury take it steady X. (Doesn't sound as though you have much opportunity for repose though currently!!) Congrats on mega decluttering Star

Good luck with the long trek Zoo! And sorry about gynae issues, can certainly sympathise with that Flowers. (Two huge fibroids and one (growing) ovarian cyst to declare here - on meds to control bleeding - look preggers!). Not sure about Floradix and meds together (best to check) but it is sold as supplement/tonic I think.

Don't be so hard on yourself CAG! You've done loads!!

Glad DD ok Sass and good luck with secondary school prep! Exciting times!

Brill news that activity levels are up Hills!!!!!!

Cheery wing flaps to everyone else!

Did keep careful eye on DH overnight as he was shivery and cold yesterday but seems fine this morning! We've all been up since crack sparrows to see DD off to stay with friends. Glorious sunny day after a night of rain! Last day with dhorse. Feel tearful now just writing it down. Sad It's better for him he returns to his equine friends but the bugger's got under my skin...going to miss him terribly.

Spreadingcudweed · 25/08/2018 07:54

X post

You ok I've? Been wondering how you were doing.

HonkyWonkWoman · 25/08/2018 08:35

Lovely morning here! We have 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞 the sort I like, with no humidity and slight breeze. Perfect! Makes me feel happy!

Sorry Dhorse has to leave sc, there are not many who are happy on their own. Unfortunately, it makes them jumpy and stroppy. It's a shame though!
What have you been up to IVE?

Ta da
Usual morning routine

To do
Not sure yet! And anyway it's Saturday 😁

For now I'm going to read the news paper and drink tea.

Spreadingcudweed · 25/08/2018 08:45

No indeed Honky it's absolutely the right thing for him and I knew this was not an ideal situation from the start.
