Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

No one here doing anything! I am slightly incapacitated at present going to have to get up and crack the whip. Why can't they just do it without me organising them. DH on computer and DD upstairs just got up.i have been up and watered plants going to tackle kitchen now. I was out last night and it is messy😤 no one washed the bath TAs left by the machine yesterday. I had early start as meeting before school.
Insane few weeks. Had Ofsted last week, reports to do, classrooms to change over on top of normal stuff and Sports Day next week and Summer Fair! Count down to two weeks. I also have a church weekend!

cags could you give the kids a back pack each to take charity shop stuff? At least it would get rid of some. Shame about DH needing to work. Still extra money for new house furniture. Could you ask a friend with a car. I never mind helping people that don't drive. I had two kids before I had a car and know how tricky it can be.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/07/2018 10:34

I have not had a good start and in grumpy mood...

Got up to stagger shops with dd2 for bottles water/supplies.near die in heat and humidity and carrying it home..
Get back and "d"p has come down hunt water bottle for D's.hes failed to stop kits coming in and we had a beanbag explode yesterday.i get home almost fainting, shaking and generally ready to die to fucking polystyrene every fucking where and he's like I didn't kniwAngry

Important lesson-clear up don't leave til tomorrow
Second important lesson-clear way stop little fuckers recharge/stick everything is to get them WET

armed with a spray gun of water I have eliminated those I can see(betting hundreds more in the wings wait come back for round two when start tidying properly)

To do
To much in heat....

stegosauruslady · 07/07/2018 11:00

We are having a relaxed morning, as our 'family fun' doesn't start until 1pm! DP works four on, four off so is at work today...which is pants!

Ta daas

DDs have stripped their beds and put the washing on
DDs have put away their laundry
Swished and swiped
Dishes done and kitchen cleaned

To do

Not a lot! Just put the linen back on the beds later and make dinner!

CassandraLamontaigne · 07/07/2018 11:47

Cag it's so frustrating to have done all the mucking out only to not be able to do the final (delightful) step of waving goodbye to all your stuff at the charity shop Hmm

Bower I'm a teacher too though on extended maternity leave. This time of year I feel like a clockwork monkey beating on a drum that's wound up too tight and gets more and more frantic as the end of term gets closer. If your staff room is like mine there'll be an endless supply of sweets cakes and biscuits which fuel the sugar high / sugar crash cycle making the clockwork monkey feeling even more pronounced. Hang on in there!

Zoo I'm sweating as I read your update!

Stegosaurus enjoy your relaxing day Smile

CassandraLamontaigne · 07/07/2018 11:55

I had a super efficient day yesterday
Sorted out cards etc
Put away paperwork mountain and recycled old paper work too
Did a load of washing from wash basket to wardrobe (yay for sunny days)
Called the electric company re massive surprise bill. The first guy said don't worry, I can sort out a payment plan. Second woman had zero clue and told me it was fine, I could pay the money to my LL, bill is in his name. When I reminded her I had put it in my name she couldn't understand and told me to ask him if I could just pay €20 a week. Hmm anyway, long story short, that bill is on the long finger which is fine. Need to pay health insurance first as I don't want to be landed with the bill for little Sebastian Lamontaigne's operation. And I'm finally back on payroll after extended unpaid maternity leave so the money will be flowing in (not really I'm a teacher but better some than none Grin)
Went to bottle bank but as I left I dropped one of the boxes of glass on the tiled floor. I'm not joking Envy (not envy)
Which then led to hoovering as I could no longer put it off till tomorrow again! Whole house hoovered hurray!
Posted my letters while I was out
Treated myself to flat white but wished I'd treated myself to a cappuccino! Or a praline matnumTomorrow is another day

CassandraLamontaigne · 07/07/2018 12:03

*praline Magnum I mean
Yum

Posted too soon,I got over excited about the magnum Smile

Ta da list so far today
Made bed
Got dressed
Cleaned kitchen
Dishwasher on
Stripped cushion covers from sofa and put in wash
Lifted cushion seat of sofa up, was horrified by mouse poo and potentially wee (rented house, never use that sofa , cover it in blankets) put down sofa cushions and resolved to block horrible picture from my mind.
Sterilised Sebastian's bottles that have been piling up as he doesn't really take bottles any more (he's on breast milk and solids)

To do
Clean bathrooms (still on list) takes longer to type about them than actually clean them )
Hang out, put back cushion covers.

Emphatically not on my to do
Plan meals for week
Buy food accordingly

I do all the mental load and most of the housework. I refuse to take on food as well. DH is kind of good at that but keeps asking me what's for dinner/ is there anything for lunch. Check the bloody fridge yourself I want to shout . Instead I shrug non committally

Scoopofchaff · 07/07/2018 12:10

Agree that the hardest bit of decluttering is not the decluttering itself but all the faddling around with boxes and sorting in to categories and getting rid of stuff afterwards. Not sure what it is like in the UK, but here we have very detailed rules about what can be thrown away /in what quantities/ where/how (which I agree with really because it's all designed to aid recycling etc) but it means one spends a lot of time ( and in certain instances) money getting rid of stuff. And don't get me started on the disposal of building waste, that's a whole other ball game and costs a fortune!

There is an apocraphyl story here that a tea bag is disposed of in four different categories: the paper bag goes in the yellow recycling bags for paper and cardboard, the tea leaves go in the green garden recycling bags, the little metal clip goes in the blue metallic and plastic recycling and the string goes in the white "ordinary" rubbish!

Expand that to clothing, books, batteries, corks, old kitchen implements, cds, craft materials etc etc and the whole thing is a nightmare!

Scoopofchaff · 07/07/2018 12:11

Oh and I've left out glass which is another category!

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/07/2018 12:12

Pulled up big girls pants and...
Tada
Wash up
Wipe surfaces
Wipe cupboard fronts
Wash on
Wash floor on hands and knees
Wipe bath
Wipe sink
Littertray
Wash floor
Bins all emptied
Hung up washing

I am now at faint/melt point..

"D"p off to work at one,so after that I need keep ear out for D's bang pole on floor needs hp going loo etc.its fucking hot as hell(no other way describe upstairs esp his poxy little room)and I feel like go pass out but we don't have downstairs lav and I'm not we enough haul him up n downstairs to the loo

Best go make the girls some lunch and enjoy few mins peace....

Enjoy family time people

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/07/2018 12:13

SC that would take me over the edge!!

Scoopofchaff · 07/07/2018 12:14

I shouldn't complain really because paper and plastic/metal is collected weekly, plus two ordinary rubbish collections, garden waste once a week, glass and battery collection points are everywhere, and the local authorities do send around trucks to local collection points twice or three times a year for stuff that doesn't fit in to other categories but we are never organised enough to take advantage of it!

Scoopofchaff · 07/07/2018 12:23

Wow those are v impressive lists in this heat Cassandra and Zoo!! Star Star

Take it steady Zoo when you are feeling grim and hope ds starts to feel better soon.

Cassandra we had mouse scare recently so I really sympathise! It's a horrible thing to discover! I have gone overboard with the Dettol and cleaning around all skirting boards and even though no more "evidence" pest control guy is coming over once we have departed for summer to lay traps/poison etc when dog well out of the way.

Really wired actually, I've noticed that when we've had guinea pigs and rabbits we have had no mouse issues at all. (You'd think it would be the opposite with hay and dried food about.) But no, when the small curries died, that is when the mice try and come back in! Very strange!

Scoopofchaff · 07/07/2018 12:25

Haha!

Wired not wired!

And furries not curries!

Scoopofchaff · 07/07/2018 12:26

Argh - sorry - autocorrect driving me nuts today - why won't it accept the word "weird"??!!!

Scoopofchaff · 07/07/2018 12:32

Anyway, all of that serves to distract from the fact that I have absolutely no ta da lists to contribute. Only sorted on-line shopping delivery, emptied DW, and fed wms so far today. Still recovering from the (brilliant!) match last night (rather too much Wine was imbibed) hence slow start! Blush. There were horns going off and cheering in the street until way past midnight Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/07/2018 12:39

Small curries is up there with zoo speciality howlers SC are you after my crown
Grin

Fun thing has been done

Walls got painted before i did the fun thing.

I am about to go put paint clothes on and go paint a wall and ceiling. Ex is being an arse so I am pissed off. Only saving grace is that tomo is sunday and i am ignoring the boy tomo!

Cagliostro · 07/07/2018 17:05

Well today has been incredibly fucking hot. Wasn’t organised enough to take the charity shop stuff, nearly melted/fainted/spontaneously combusted on the short walk from bus stop to ballroom. And they didn’t have any of the unicorn ice creams at the coop.

And I may have shouted so loudly/sharply at DS earlier that it made the baby cry 😳

Have done absolutely fuck all since, watched the football which involved swearing at first the TV which had no signal 🧐 and then the iplayer live thing which cut out at 90’+2!

I really do need to put a wash on, but meh. Don’t even know about dinner either.

I wouldn’t mind sending DD down to the shops now really as she has her phone but there will be beacoup de drunk people. So no.

IVEgotthePOWER · 07/07/2018 17:24

Appologies but i was only a baby when that was released......

Scoopofchaff · 07/07/2018 17:45

Gah I've now you've made me feel really old! Grin

Cag if it's any consolation, I wimped out today. Felt really out of it with heat, almost ill in fact. We've just watched the footie too (whey hey!) fortunately without guests this time.

Welcome back Foxes! Glad you had a bit of a rest!

Waves to Hills and everyone else!
