Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Actually - correct that - I feel old anyway in this heat!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/07/2018 19:53

I like both versions of that song Grin. SC and Cag* I would view it as making a sensible decision to take things easier in the heat rather than wimping out / not achieving things.

I heard about the iPlayer issues Ive. Must have been super annoying.

Well I am back from work. Stayed much later than I wanted to but managed to stay after the job I needed to do to do some extra work that badly needed doing. Still a fair bit to do but feel very pleased I got the stuff done. Hit a bit of a lull after that but must get on now and put DD2 to bed in a bit.

Thanks Toostressy well done for breaking the back of the extra work. I've started doing a bit of Flying again now it's got a bit cooler and dh is watching third footie match of day Hmm

July’s habit is swish and swipe which is a quick daily clean of the bathroom.

Ta da list
Hoovered half of house (as far as hoover stretched from one plug)
Cleaned bathrooms X2 - sink toilet floor bath (but not shower) so I can swish and swipe gaily tomorrow
Washed cushion covers (did not replace them)
Decluttered box of my stuff after our move here in April
Persuaded DH to declutter one box of his stuff
Went through box of kitchen stuff we don't use, decided it could live, closed up, in garage
forced persuaded DH write a meal plan for the week and corresponding shopping list
DH, DS and I went to shop. DS fell asleep in car so I sat with him and messed on phone while DH did shopping
Kitchen lovely and tidy, once it starts tidy DH will "help" clean as we go. Once it gets messy he leaves it to me Hmm

So another good day , and nothing much on to do list for tomorrow. Smile

Cagliostro · 07/07/2018 22:14

I’m waiting for the washing to finish so I can take out both of DD’s dance leotards and shake them before drying! (Jazz/contemporary one was a bit crumpled, so I’m rewashing)

Then I want my bed dammit!

Must get laundry away in the morning, DH can wash up. Dad coming to see us, will show him the new house and then he is coming to see DD’s dance thing. DH is working as usual.

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/07/2018 22:30

i have finished the painting for now.

that is all.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/07/2018 23:16

Stayed up later than I wanted to but sewed two swimming badges on.

Bloody hell. Dh has had another "stress attack" (calling it this because we don't know the cause of them) tonight. He was fine and relaxed watching footie, then got up to get glass of water (no alcohol consumed today) felt dizzy, turned white, started sweating, said he felt really unwell (and he's the sort who is always very resilient, calm, never complains of illness even when he has bad flu or something, always strong and ploughs on through). I called emergency doc, who arrived within 10 mins with portable electrocardiogram in his car, again everything fine, (blood pressure, trace, heart rhythm, everything). Bizarre. Back to gp and cardiologist we go. But wondering now if it's some sort of allergic reaction because his nose started running too and he had pins and needles in hands and indigestion (just like on three previous occasions). Or could be stress but it usually happens when he is asleep or watching telly. Very odd. Not sure I am going to sleep tonight. And I can tell he is worried even if he is not saying so (not emotive type!). Bizarre!

Did manage to do a few pathetic tasks before this all happened:
cleared two drawers
lined two drawers with wallpaper
found laundered Ikea dividers for drawers and slotted them back in
found missing book
cleared unused bed in boudoir of junk (wasn't too bad)
hung up wool wash x 2
filled dw
wiped down kitchen
recycling bins

actually writing that down, thats better than I thought.

Hills bloody well done re: painting!

Cassandra wow that's a fantastic ta da list!!

Waves to Cag and everyone else!

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 00:03

Wish I could take the sewing off your hands Toostressy! Must be last straw at end of busy day!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2018 07:29

SC how's things this morning?

I had a bad mum moment yesterday...I yelled at D's for turning off his fan.his room is a sweat box.hes not drinking very much(pee twice yesterday) and he thought it would be a good idea- erm why?!I very embarrassed and mad at myself to say I lost my shit with a poorly boy.i just hot, feel lousy myself and find him jarring my nerves when I tell him again and again you must keep drinking.leave the fan on(he's not eating at all)I can't cope looking at his grey waxy face all pathetic and weak.we go here EVERYTIME he's unwell.stop eat, stop drinking.first time it's happened(I can recall) during tintense heat tho

IVEgotthePOWER · 08/07/2018 09:07

Morning all

Hope dh ok sc

zoo i think it is easy to loose ones shit in this weather!

Ta da

Washing on line
Washer on
Dryer on
Cot stripped
Dd bed stripped

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 09:11

All ok thanks Zoo it's a bit of a mystery tbh! We've just returned from one hour dog walk and all fine! DH says he feels 98% ok. As I said I'm worried because he is no

Sorry you are still dealing with illness too Flowers. It is frustrating when DC refuse to do anything to help themselves. I hope you can have a less stressful Sunday today.

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 09:13

Thanks I've (crossed posts).

Cagliostro · 08/07/2018 09:17

Oh no sc and zoo sorry about the poorly men/boyfolk.

I did sod all yesterday, I didn’t even stay up long enough to shake out the leotards! DD did it this morning and I think they are ok, they are in the dryer now.

We have less than two weeks till the big move. This is scary! Considering we also have to get this house in a vaguely decent state too. Gulp.

First Ikea order arriving tomorrow:
DS’ bed
DD1’s bed
Long shallow trofast unit (including buckets) which will store toys on the landing
Replacement trofast buckets for the tall units (in the cloakroom cupboard for our “leaving the house” storage of dance shoes, uniforms etc) and the other small unit that will be for DS’ clothes
Kallax for the living room (1x4, 2x4 and 4x4)
One insert for the kallax (to hold paper)
High chair

😱

Our house is basically turning into a showroom 🙄 anyway once all that is built, we can unpack what we’ve already taken over and see where we are at. Then we need to get:
TV unit
Kallax for the girls’ room
Any inserts for the kallax in their room and living room (thanks for comments on that BTW much appreciated 💐)
Wardrobe for our room (I reckon we can get away with one that has drawers in the bottom and then we won’t need a “Chester draws” 😉😂)

Bloody hell 😱😱😱

I have also worked out that if needed, we could fit something (guess what... kallax!) in a couple of places in the hallway without reducing the available space too much. As I’m really not sure the “leaving the house” storage is going to work due to lack of space (it fits, but there is barely any space to actually get in there and access it IYSWIM). So their club stuff could go in the hallway, which was the plan before we saw this house anyway. Also a lot depends on where we end up putting the dryer.

DSS is hoping to be able to use his work van next Sunday as well so need to make plans so that we can make the most of it. Not sure if he’d be allowed to do a tip run in that though as it’s a work van and may be perceived as a business use IYSWIM.

Also need to plan how to use the time at the house tomorrow before the delivery arrives. DH might strim the lawn and I would like to shine the sink :o

Lots of planning to do this morning! DD wants to go to the park. I don’t know if we will have time to show my dad the new house as Sunday service on the buses.

Sorry for the epic waffle I’m thinking “aloud” here 😳😳😳

Cagliostro · 08/07/2018 09:19

Also! 😳

I need to buy a few new bits for the house. Like laundry baskets (1 for each bedroom), bread bins (one for me and Caglets and one for gluten free stuff)... loo brush, bins, etc etc. Not sure when to do that really.

And somehow get the stuff to the charity shop! Aaaaaargh.

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 09:21

Argh (half sentence missing) Zoo that was meant to say I'm worried because he's normally so stalwart.

Right, need to follow I'ves good example and get the washing on the terrace. Taking advantage of "grilling" weather and (belatedly) working my way through a large pile of woollens.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2018 09:25

SC still a worry.honestly if not kids n curries it's fellas...
Tada
Fed pets
Fed girls
ironed uniforms(lil zoo has a pleated skirt that looks crumbled)
Swept kitchen floor
Thought about what else needs doing
Sort lil zoo last her relax kids course today
Sort what ingredients dd2 needs to make veggie tacos tom(need go buy that once do back with lil zoo)

I need to muck out D's room as I'm told school do home visit if off two days holiday and cries at prospect be trapped in that sweatbox of stench and mess with D's feebly making demands>

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2018 09:26

FFS wobbles and cries
Now I have little curries, not curries!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2018 09:26

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 09:36

Cag (X post) sounds as though you have a number of plates spinning on a number of poles there Grin. Good luck with it all!

If hall narrow, could you use drawstring bags on hooks for sports kit(s)? I made/bought different ones for DD for various activities over the years (gym/ballet/riding/running/badminton/swimming/tennis - not all at once!!) and clean kit went straight in to appropriate bag on appropriate hook in hall. Takes all the stress out of having to go rummaging around upstairs and works well.

Forgot to say, was reading a thread yesterday started by someone who is struggling with house cleaning. Unfuck Your Habitat came up a lot. A lot of it seems rather good. Came across this in relation to moving house which you may find helpful. Other bits on moving in there too.

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 09:40

Zoo arf at the F/C urries!!! Grin

IVEgotthePOWER · 08/07/2018 09:48

There used to be an unfuck your habitat thread on here. I was on it but it died. I liked the swearyness

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/07/2018 09:56

zoo not bad parent Sometimes you HAVE to shout at poorly kids so that they realise the seriousness of the decision. I hope that he improves and you survive tackling his room.

cag good luck with getting everything done

SC that is quite a worry wrt DH, well done on all the work you have been getting through

I woke up this morning and realised i had no idea what I needed to get done because there is no painting to think about. I am taking some time to just be before writing the to do list to get ahead on all the crazy next week.

What I know I need to do:
laundry
wash paint sheets
finish clearing up after painting - paint tins away/ brushes and trays away assuming dry.
clear out my car

Scoopofchaff · 08/07/2018 10:01

I've I'm sure we can oblige with more sweariness as this heat persists Grin

Hills you certainly deserve a break today after painting marathon!
