Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

I've had 2hours sleep and look n feel shit.i am not dressed,curtains aren't open.i don't care today!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/07/2018 09:36

Sorry that was TMIBlush

stegosauruslady · 06/07/2018 10:16

Ugh, zoo that is grim. Early night for you tonight!

We also had vomit in the night! DD1 (who was very prem and has some health issues) threw up all over the just shampooed dining room carpet. Poor thing, I had to drag her out this morning for a morning of testing at her new school!

Tadaas
Swished and swiped
Laundry
DD1 delivered for testing

To do
Re-shampoo the carpet
Dishes
Dust dining room and living room
Daily mission
Fold and put away laundry

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/07/2018 10:46

Morning all BrewBrewBrew

zoo Flowers
Hope carpet not too arduous to shampoo again and that your DD’s tests go ok steg.

Ta da:-
Picked up parcel
Fed friend’s cats
Stuff to charity shop
Quick food / general things shop
Figured out directions for where DD needs to be dropped off for her activity tonight

To do:-
General tidy up (home bleugh - the house cleaning home blessing hour that FlyLady advises on a Monday but I usually do on a Friday - won’t get done sadly)
Morning routine
See on lots of badges
Pack for DD1’s activity
Pack swimming stuff and packed tea
Hoping I have enough time for all that Confused.

Going to do a power hour first in the house. For newbies, this is a phrase I found from watching cleaning / organising videos on YouTube Blush but I’m sure it’s used elsewhere too. As it’s name suggests, you power through something for an hour or however much time you have. Of course if you have young children around / other issues that mean you can’t fully concentrate on one thing then this needs to be modified or completely abandoned!

Zoo that sounds tough, you're getting stress from all angles. I hope your DS is feeling better soon, poor thing.

My tada list
Made bed
Showered and dressed
Put on washing machine
Sorted cards, wrapping paper etc into 4 pretty boxes, labelled, found home for them
Tidied kitchen a bit with DH as I was Close to nervous breakdown from looking at it all
Created 2 New files for paperwork

Hmmm I've achieved more than I thought!

My to do list
Hoover (still on the list since last week!)
Clean the bathroom x 2 (hoover mop wipe sink scrub toilet) so I can then just swish and swipe every day
Phone electricity company and ask if they can delay the payment on the overdue bill of €300 our landlord surprised us with yesterday. Eeeek
Buy stamps and Post 3 letters
Bring hoard of glass to bottle bank (went on Tues but it was closed 😖)
(While in town practice fly and treat self to coffee and maybe cake)
Sort random paper clutter into relevant files

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/07/2018 13:08

And doctors verdict...D's has labrythitis....

Oh poor lad Zoo. Wouldn't wish that on anyone. Does he have an inner ear infection? (My dizziness - gone now thankfully - turned out not to be labyrinthitis but dizziness and nausea are the absolute pits.). I hope he feels better soon xx

Scoopofchaff · 06/07/2018 13:32

PS Have you re-booked your appt zoo? (Stern look over pince nez?)

Scoopofchaff · 06/07/2018 15:02

Sorry - missed bit about unexpected bill Cassandra (not a nice surprise!) and that your dad was unwell in the night Stegosaurus (I hope she is feeling better now).

Watching DD and friend ride ( v low level jumping over cavaletti). DD has fallen off once so far but in slow motion

Scoopofchaff · 06/07/2018 15:05

argh - WiFi dodgy - but horse was gent and stood and waited for her to get back on.

Writing a list of everything that needs doing between now and holiday proper. (It is very long.)

Cagliostro · 06/07/2018 15:13

Man it’s hot! Didn’t get as much stuff moved out of the house as I’d hoped today, but we got all the sports club stuff moved into the new shed, as we have now finished for the term. Amazingly it barely takes up any of the space, it’s surprisingly roomy in there. I’m looking forward to cleaning it all up (not that bad but needs decobwebbing) and eventually sanding, painting, putting up a window basket etc! I’ve never had a shed before. But I also know it’s not a high priority compared to the house itself. At least the stuff is out of the way though. And we got the bikes out ready for the tip.

I was hoping to drop stuff at charity today but DN was struggling in the heat so I didn’t ask SIL as I knew she wanted to get back. Annoyingly DH is working a different shift to usual tomorrow so won’t be able to take it when DD does ballroom. It’s only open Friday afternoons and Saturdays!

I might pop into town as my new sling has arrived at the post office. Plus frankly I could do with a break.

Cagliostro · 06/07/2018 15:51

Right. I have phoned shopandscan and got our account suspended for a month while moving house, as it’s just a faff and one more thing to think about.

Stairgate borrowed from family and put up in living room doorway so the little monkey can’t escape into the hallway!

DH has phoned the utility company but it’s a bit complicated so more calls will be needed at some point.

I’m going to stick a towel wash on and then dry everything together.

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/07/2018 17:44

ds has finally slept and is less pain so i have come home to an almost human.
I otoh have the over tired, over hot rages. So he has backed away slowly having let me use the fan that is normally in his room for a bit. Tbh I am just tired and in a lot of pain.

Work was work, now got a lot of errands to run and to do 1 coat ceiling and 1 of walls so that I can just do one coat tomo morning and then I should hopefully be done!! if I don't kill anyone. Do we know how much paint is needed to cover up blood? Honestly tea for me is likely to be ice cream which will greatly improve my mood as will strong pain killers and a good night sleep. Nice stuff for tomo to do so that helps to.

I am beginning to think i need to learn to swim, although I can i just refuse to wear so little clothes that a swimming costume makes up Blush

Cagliostro · 06/07/2018 17:57

Dammit forgot to do the towel wash. Have popped into town to collect the new sling and have a sneaky ice cream while the baby slept

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/07/2018 18:03

No ear infections SC apparently doc says by way head moves in relation to his eyes was a give away?
He's a fabulous shade of grey/green if sits up/crawls to loo...
Just had row dp who sit with him.i gave bottle cool water after docs.hes had 2sips in 8hours and his room stifling despite the fan
Deposited icy bottle with order to make him sip often!!he's just crawl out for second week of the day.ffs.one job and he's just sit watch TV with him

Bowerbird5 · 06/07/2018 18:10

Very little being achieved in this house. I am in awe of your lists. Watch out for mine in two weeks time.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/07/2018 18:20

Forgot to add SC will need rebook my app at some point once things settle down here
I look NHS can take 2weeks or more to settle labrynthitis-been.bloidy hope not that's into summer hols

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/07/2018 20:44

Make sure you rebook the appt zoo!! Hope your DS feels better soon although yes, labrynthitis is nasty and can take a while to settle Flowers.

Bower, we will await your lists in 2 weeks time Smile. I am finding the end of term extremely busy as a parent, let alone if I was working in a school. Cag, exciting news about new shed and new sling! Glad DS feeling better Hills. Hopefully once you have got lost written down you will feel organised SC!

Big wing flaps to everyone else.

I am tired! Have spent today packing and organising stuff for DD1’s Brownie activity and sewing badges. Managed all badges except DD2’s swimming badges, will have to do this weekend. We were very busy rushing between activities this afternoon but home now and just had fish and chip tea. Still need to do an evening routine in a bit though.

Good morning fledlgings. Early ish start here. Off to do some painting before going to do a fun thing. Not sure how much flying will get done. Family fun is taking the form of ignoring each other and tomorrows something for you ( i forget the proper wording) is happening with the fun thing this morning.

Next week is going to be insane. Soooo much to get done. Soooo little time to do it. At least it will be the in the right direction of having a functioning house again with less building work clutter. Hmm

Hope you all have lovely, and as productive as you want days!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/07/2018 07:57

Morning all.

Next week sounds very hard work Hills Brew. I find family fun often works best when ignoring each other Grin.

I’m doing an extra day at work today so will pop on at lunchtime to see how everyone is getting on.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 07/07/2018 09:31

Morning fledglings.

DH is working extra hours. Really not looking forward to the day. It’s long enough when he leaves at 12 but he’s going to have to leave very soon. At least the new house is nearer work!

Must do laundry at least. DD needs her ballet stuff again for tomorrow.

Going to have a play on the Pax planner to plan our Ikea wardrobe :o but need to take DD to ballroom first. DH normally does it and I’m way too tired :( but no choice. It’s extra annoying as we have fuckloads of stuff for the charity shop next door but without DH we can’t take all of it and it’s getting right in the way. Angry

I need a second bowl of cereal to get through the morning!
