Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Morning all.... Hope your day improves Cag! And lovely for you to see your little mini-steg on the scan Steg.

I don't know how you young ones with Dc cope sometimes, getting everything done. You all deserve a bloody medal...CakeBrewFlowers and Wine for later.

Ta da
Fed dog and cat
Swish and swipe
Quick kitchen swipe.

To do
Last minute shopping, dog food etc. Ham and muffins etc. as Ds says no-one likes food on plane.
Spray tan.
Pack and take case to Dd as mini-coach picking up there.

This evening I'm walking Buffydog to Dd's as all "our girls" are staying there and I don't think I'll be able to rouse Buffy at 3.30 am tomorrow (she likes her sleep now she's nearly 15).

Ds's Border Terrier boy is staying with his Mil as he tries to rule the roost with the girls and Big Black Lab girl will have none of it! So best thing really as she may eat, the cocky little man! 😂

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 05/07/2018 10:31

Lovely scan news steg

Mine are pretty good with clothes tbh, not too fussy thankfully

Soooo exciting about ikea and house move cag!

Cagliostro · 05/07/2018 10:41

I was trying to be understanding as I know part of it is the black and white rules (sporty tshirt must be for sport) due to asd but also, ffs child it is just a tshirt!!! Does provide a useful example of current issues for the Paeds Dr though.

Put our clothes away this morning and DH washed up so at least we are OK on regular stuff. Shopping away. Towel wash on and Moses basket stripped (washing to give to DN). Now on way to hospital.

Cagliostro · 05/07/2018 10:45

Yay to baby steg scan 😍 yes everything feels so much better when the nausea goes.

ive or anyone else with kallax, what inserts/accessories do you have with it please? So far I have a wire basket thing which will be perfect for paper (constantly needed) but we will need some stuff for small games downstairs and some for the girls' clothes

Ivegotfamilyandidrinkcupsoftea · 05/07/2018 10:56

We have the fabric boxes which are suprisingly sturdy. Also some or the sets of two drawers. Again those are sturdy and easy to fit.

IVEgotthePOWER · 05/07/2018 10:58

Name change test....

stegosauruslady · 05/07/2018 11:30

scoopofchaff I actually was just coming on to say that DP has now got with the program and is currently shampooing the downstairs carpets...so I'll forgive him!

cagliostro I have some of the drawers, which are brilliant and the fabric boxes too, which I don't love, but are fine.

All of the jobs for the moment are complete! There are always bloody more of them though...

Scoopofchaff · 05/07/2018 12:22

Whey hey that's what I call progress Stegosauraus!

Perfect angry cleaning music I've Grin Weren't the band German iirc?

CassandraLamontaigne · 05/07/2018 13:18

Hi everyone, thanks for all the supportive messages, you're so kind, especially seeing as I literally joined the thread then had the baby's op. I'm not usually a drama queen! Op went very well, it was all over by 10:30 am yesterday, baby was crawling and climbing as soon as we got home, you'd never know he had an operation. I banged my toe last week and it took more out of me. He's great Smile
Cagliostro yes, snap! Same age babies. I don't know how you have 2 older ones as well, fair play, my little one has me running after him non stop. Hence my need for fly lady!
We have kallax, I love the wicker baskets though they are 6 times the price (or more) of the cloth ones. So we have two wicker and 6 cloth ones and the cloth baskets are great

Stegasaurus congratulations! What an exciting time Smile

I have to say, I think I've landed on a really busy thread, I'm in awe of how much you're all doing, in addition to children, pets, partners there's house moves, painting, decluttering. I'm inspired!

We're heading home now from my mum's house so my to do list today will just be
Unpack suitcases

Cagliostro · 05/07/2018 13:56

Well done cass and baby! Not drama queenish at all BTW.

FWIW in some ways it’s easier with the older two, as DD especially can hold the baby etc. So if we are in a rush I can ask them to dress her or strap her into the buggy or whatever. And they love cuddling her so I can actually go to the loo in peace 😂

Hospital was fine, got there early and the previous people hadn’t shown up so we were in and out before the appointment time 😂 DD bought herself a couple of tops with her birthday money while I fed baby and tried unsuccessfully to get her to keep her sunhat on 🙄

I have now put the towels on to dry and the Moses basket stuff on to wash. Knackered.

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/07/2018 17:51

cag my day started like that. hope yours continued to improve.

SC if they are too long threaten to shorten them... I had done this before whilst ds looked on in horror

Cassandra glad to hear the baby is ok

Ive glad you have the power

Ds is a teenager. Nuff said. We are at war... Although a temporary truce has been called due to fresh raspberries...

ta da
ds into school alive and sanity remaining Shock
work

To do
tesco - need baby wipes for cleaning up paint.

early night.

Stilllivinginazoo · 05/07/2018 18:10

Scoopofchaff · 05/07/2018 19:47

So glad to hear your little 'un is ok Cassandra and that the experience was not too stressful. Totally understandable that you were worried x

Sorry to hear you and Little Zoo still under the weather Zoo Flowers

Actually that's a good idea about shortening the shorts Hills!!

Glad it went ok at hospital Cag

Agree with Honky that you all deserve a medal spinning so many plates! Good luck with dog logistics/furry sleepover tonight btw Honky!

Not a good day today

  1. Mahoosive dispute in office about £££££££££££££ photocopying which had been done for client off-site for deadline (colour printed and bound) and then client submitted changes which they said they had informed us were coming but they hadn't. Had to be all done again. Dh will not be happy.
  1. DD and boyfriend took furry out for walk at mid-day Angry. He is fine (I doused him down with cold water and draped a wet towel on the back of his head for a bit which he hated) and they did not take him out for long and stuck to shade etc but am really p**d off about this as she is old enough to know better.
  1. DD did not stick to our agreement and brought boyfriend back to our house while I was out at office. This is NOT allowed and strictly against rules (even though relationship just friendship more than anything else - and even though office only 30 seconds away by foot -
and I am pretty sure their intentions were harmless). Nonetheless [sigh] trust and agreement has been broken and there will be consequences (grounding + phone) and I am dreading fall-out tbh! [treble sigh] So stupid too, because had she brought him to office (as she often does) I would have shouted them a pizza!
  1. This is going to sound utterly ridiculous but loads of wierd things happening in house currently. (House is old and big and crumbly but I have never had a moment's worry being here, not bothered about being by myself etc, always thought atmosphere very benign etc.) Anyway, probably owing to heat and expanding and contracting of wood there are huge noises at night like someone is walking along corridor. Last night entire pan rack fell off wall in middle of night! Night before, load of books fell off shelf. Then at lunchtime when I went downstairs to basement to collect washing I had put on at 8am this morning, the washing machine (I kid you not) was in middle of floor at end of electrical cable. Wierd no?
  1. Not sure I mentioned this previously but someone who shall remain nameless left keys in front door for several hours a week ago. Was alerted to it by stranger ringing doorbell saying "are you aware keys are in your lock and your door is open?"
  1. Owing to 4 and 5 I have convinced myself there is someone living in the attic or cellars Grin Confused [wibble]

On a positive note, dh's big career 'thing' went well today - won't know outcome for a while - but seemed to go ok.

No FLYING done at all since this morning.

I think a glass of Wine is in order

[offers bottle around ... ]

Scoopofchaff · 05/07/2018 19:49

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/07/2018 20:27

In this house stuff like that tends to mean:

  1. sleep walking
2: humans in a mardy 3: the weight on the drum of the machine has gone causing unbalance and beware the trapping of laundry inside machine if top loader
  1. it is too fucking hot
  2. someone is trying to fuck with you. did you annoy the cleaner?
HillsBesideTheSea · 05/07/2018 20:28

There are house alarms going off, it has been a different one for the last 3 hours. In rotation. It is like we have had a mini earth quake or a low flying sound barrier jet go past. And I think we might have noticed the jet. HmmGrin

Scoopofchaff · 05/07/2018 20:46

Ooh-er Hills wierd happenings at yours too! Wink

2, 3 and 4 all potential explanations! Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 05/07/2018 20:51

Oh no we do have a ghost, he is a grumpy arse that mostly likes to stare judgingly and make people feel paranoid/uncomfortable. It is just the things you listed are not his style.

Scoopofchaff · 05/07/2018 21:03

Ooooh-er Hills!! Shock Shock. Fascinating though!!

There was deffo unsettling strange atmosphere at wreck2 (bits date back to 1730s) before local priest came out to bless it; all peaceful and calm now though!

CassandraLamontaigne · 05/07/2018 21:15

Hills a ghost!!

My ta da list
✔️ unpacked mine and baby's clothes
✔️did a bit of weeding

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 05/07/2018 22:28

I am now regretting checking on this thread before bed Hills with all this talk of ghosts!

Sleep well everyone.
