Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Hello to Honky as wellSmile.

HonkyWonkWoman · 23/07/2018 12:28

Glad that peace has returned sc and you and Dd are besties again.
Normally, I get on very well with my Dc. Never, ever have words with Dd and only occasionally clash with Ds but like you quickly get over it.
But, the "family holiday" has left an "after-taste", there is definately some tension between me and Dd, I think that she is scared that I will say something to Ds and cause problems but I have no intention of doing that. Also, I've noticed Ds has drawn away, I normally have chatty texts and he calls round when passing but he's definately been quieter.

I suppose all dealing with the shock and aftermath in our own ways but I feel sad.

Anyway, it will all soon be water under the bridge and hopefully we will get back to normal.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/07/2018 12:30

I have managed to lose my purse, my will to live and what ever little motivation i woke up with.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/07/2018 12:40

Refill? Typed regulo....

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/07/2018 12:58

Unfortunately it is entirely possible that I have been pick pocketed. So cards have been cancelled, but not great that I had my driving licence in there Sad I dont expect it to turn up. It would be nice if only for the driving licence. Not long renewed it either. Which is a pita. So police will be next stop

Thankfully due to an unhelpful computerised telephone system I ended up in the wrong place and have manage to get all cards cancelled in the same go. Which made that job easier. NOw fingers crossed the new cards turn up before the weekend!

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 13:04

Cake is in oven, phew!

(Process made simpler by new K-Mix that dh bought me for our wedding anniversary. So much smoother and quieter than old plastic food processor I had for years which was incredibly loud, used to leap about the kitchen counter, and over-heated and cut out just when you were at the critical point of whisking egg whites!!

Praying to St Anthony for you Hills!

Hope you are ok Honky and take it steady in this weather! Perhaps your ds is a wee bit embarrassed. A bit awkward for everyone but I hope things settle down.

Cag that should have read "recent days' efforts"! Poor misuse of apostrophe as there have been many!!

I reckon I could fry an egg on the terrace it is that boiling here currently! Going up to 32/33/34 next week (groan). Glad to hear your ds is on the mend (albeit slowly).

Waves to Toostressy and eveyrone else! Going to speed-wrap some presents now without dd seeing!

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 13:04

Oh no Hills that is such a faff having to cancel and replace everything Flowers

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 13:11

The bit about frying an egg on the terrace below was meant for Zoo

Sorry; rushing!!

Bowerbird5 · 23/07/2018 13:26

Oh Hills what a pain. Is it in the house or out somewhere?

House go out and retrace steps, look in weird places like fridge. I try to put mine on top of fridge now when I come in. Have you had to pay anyone at the door? I'm always losing things...purse and phone especially phone. I recently went without it for 6 weeks! It turned up when I least expected...the last time( a week) I had a hole in my handbag and it had gone through the lining onto the base. Previous time it was in car door though DH said it wasn't.

Well I haven't got much done. I feel so lazy.
Ta Das
Watered plants
Made bed
Washed DD breakfast and a couple of last nights missed things.
Sorted washing
Attempted extracting sheets from machine. They are in a pool of water so of course it went all over the floor when extracted, damn. Will get bowl and do second one. Will take my washing to DS2 and wash there 😄 I have a KEY! It is only a few miles drive so will go this afternoon and have a leisurely time. Might go book a massage for later in the week as there is a spa attached to hotel.
So back up in boudoir procrastinating. Thinking I could do a room a day this week then start on the de cluttering. I should do it while I am feeling annoyed about work as I always throw more out then. I must take it straight to charity shop this time. There is a box since January though I did take a box of toys I found in shed to school fair. I was rather pleased as I washed them all twice and let Reception have first pick then rest to sale on bric a brac.
We have got your greyness now. 😣 Still it will make me stay in.
I was out in garden for an hour. Coffee sudoku and crossword then re arranged green house as tomatoes getting out of hand.have black currants that need picked and courgettes and beans nearly ready.

Henny's is fine but confined to barracks which she isn't happy about. She has lots of room but is no longer free range in all the garden. This is due to her being related to Houdini and the fact we have put done a lot of membrane and bark to try to control the weeds. Summer house will be down there too. LAshley have lovely runners and table mats so I bought some for large table at the bottom of garden. I will be able to store them in the summer house when I get it.
Well I best do the rest of boudoir.

Bowerbird5 · 23/07/2018 13:35

My cousins and I used to do that when I lived elsewhere and it was hot enough to fry the egg. The dog ate it afterwards!

Oh Hills what a horrible thing to happen. At least cards are cancelled. You should get new ones before if not go in and with ID they will give you some money. This happened to me last year my bag was stolen from staff room. New cards arrived within the week. Annoying about driving licence.

SC I love my KMix I bought it with a kick back from council after they took too much off us in Single Status. I bought a cheaper one which didn't work then went to Lakeland and discussed it and added a bit more and they had an offer on. Very pleased with new one it is very quick. Can you stay outside while oven is on?

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 15:41

Oven is now firmly off now thankfully! Still very airless here though!

Take it very steady Bower! Wing flaps to Henny Penny!

Solidarity in K-mix admiration and all of that! Smile (Dh was a bit miffed with me because the red one was on sale but I wanted a stainless steel and white one Blush [spoilt mare emoticon].)

Ta da:
ordered nighties for op (prefer pjs normally!)
wrote to do lists
six loads laundry (last two still going)
two loads laundry hung up on terrace to grill
two in td (although it seems sacriligious putting it on in this weather but they are huge fluffy towels)
made Nigella's banana and walnut loaf (was going to be chocolate but not in this weather!). This is not dd's official cake because she will share one "official" with her uncle and aunt when they visit next week but is just an unofficial one to mark the day with candles etc.
photos on memory stick and delivered to photo shop
quick supermarket shop
wrapped all of dd presents (just tokens this yr owing to large hairy equine!)
washed out two plastic storage boxes
sort "party box" and fill with bunting, decorations etc for wreck2

To do:
wrap presents for siblings
wrap presents for godparents
hang more laundered curtains (precarious!)
refill boudoir chest of drawers (yes that job is still ongoing!!)
find jam making equipment and jars (plum tree at wreck2 about to burst with plums in under a week or so I reckon but all usual harvest times up creek because of heat).

Remember to keep drinking loads of water everyone!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/07/2018 15:59

Wow sc
How do you keep going in the heat?!
I'm an exhausted sweaty heat just sitting doing nothing....

HonkyWonkWoman · 23/07/2018 16:14

Just been called on to look after Dgs10 while Dd does some running around on her day off. He'd been at the farm with his Ds, riding round the paddock on Apache, he was smelly so I had to prise him into the shower before I take him to his Guitar lesson.
That should cheer me up, gazing at his Rock God Guitar tutor for half an hour. Blush

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/07/2018 16:20

How annoying Hills Sad.

Good that you get an unexpected chance to go to guitar lesson Honky!

Good luck with present wrapping and the rest of your list SC.

Hope you have managed to get through today foxes and Wh0Kn0ws.

I also feel I am wilting zoo. Always nice to have updates on Henny Penny Bower Smile.

At gymnastics now, DD2 is in and then DD1 will go in. Thankfully it is cool in here!

stressy my girls used to go trampolining in a large metal building.oh.my.word.in summer was hell,so darn hot.thwy took iced drinks and never completed the hour, was inhumane esp parents trapped in uberhot viewing box upstairs
Was very glad tbh when they decided didn't want to go anymoreBlush

Bowerbird5 · 23/07/2018 16:27

Dusted. Decided to sort jewellery as the little dish where I dump stuff when tired was overflowing. Took longer than I anticipated but most now matched up. Four pieces need mending.
Haven't finished yet but taking a break for food. Watching a film now it has rained here and is quite cool.
Plan to finish room later and vacuum in the morning.
Will tackle bathroom tomorrow.

foxessocks · 23/07/2018 16:32

Hi all. Feeling emotionally drained and in need of a large drink later.First I still have orthodontist appointment to go to. Funeral was really difficult, distressing, awful really but my friend spoke beautifully and I'm very proud of her it must have taken every ounce of strength for her to do that. I don't know how she managed it. She even managed to read out "reasons why I love my daddy" from her dd SadSad I'm tearing up again just thinking about it.

Ta da
Mopped floors
Changed dc bed sheets
Dh has done bins
Swish and swipe bathroom
Helped dd make her cards for nursery staff tomorrow

To do
Dusting
Any decluttering I can achieve
Orthodontist - need to find the name of my dentist to give to them...
Dh to wrap teacher presents

It's too hot for hoovering or much else tbh. I'm wilting!

Dh cooking pasta Bolognese later as I'll be out.

Cagliostro · 23/07/2018 17:37

That's so sad foxes :( I bet your friend is so glad you were there for them x

I've not done much except laundry. And enjoy playing with the baby as she has so much space to crawl around now! The others are at tkd and I'll find out later how much they got done at the house. I definitely feel better for the rest. I just finished reading the Kallax thread and am enjoying thinking about what storage we still need.

Also I am now in love with Method cleaning stuff. Lovely fragrances!

Random question for those of you who have or had babies but NO changing table, where did you keep the mat/nappies etc and where did you change the baby? We've always just shoved the stuff randomly in the living room (plus duplicates in bedroom when they were small enough to need changes in the night) but now we actually have more options and I'm wondering what is actually best?! Could store it under the cot I guess?

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/07/2018 18:27

Nothing to report, cept cold tea for zooletsBlush

HonkyWonkWoman · 23/07/2018 18:27

So sad for your friend fox, just awful...Flowers

Cag if you change Caglitini mainly in the living room, if you have a sofa with a space under it, you could store the mat under there and have the nappies, creams etc in a nice box or a bag at the side of the sofa.
All depends, of course, on if you have the space beneath your sofa!

foxessocks · 23/07/2018 19:06

cag I keep nappy changing stuff in a corner of ds bedroom but I hope to put it in a basket or bottom drawer of his chest of drawers soon. But I tend to change him upstairs and if I do do it downstairs I just grab a nappy from my bag and put him on whatever I've got to hand a tea towel or something!!! I'm not that organised GrinBlush

Thanks for all your kind words everyone.

Ds is in bed and dd helping to wrap teacher presents with dh. I've just got back from the orthodontist and eaten the dinner dh made which was tasty and nice not to have to cook myself!

Feeling absolutely shattered now.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/07/2018 21:52

foxes Wine.

Cag, we had a changing table but did also keep nappy changing stuff downstairs. I agree that a box / bag / basket is the way forward and that way can slot where there is space. I also had this tucked away in an extra room to make life easier but I see they have now brought out this which would be even better.
