Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Enjoy your bath Hills.

Ah Cag, it is always sad to say goodbye to good neighbours. Hopefully your DD can still see them sometimes. It sounds as if you have been so productive today and it’s interesting what you say about getting the house clean just as you move out.

Totally agree with Honky, zoo. Vent away!

Oh no re washing machine Bower. That is worse than the oven going I think.

Big wing flaps to Ive and SC and everyone else.

So the 6 and a half weeks holidays have well and truly started. I have vague hopes of decluttering and getting the kids involved... Hmm.

Morning all!BrewBrew

Ds up twice last night , he isnt asking for milk anymore but just doesn't want us to leave him. At least I'm saving money in milk!?

I think I've strained my hand / wrist from picking the dc up can barely use it which is going to be interesting trying to get the dc up and ready and dd to nursery. Dd last proper day of nursery today just have the party tomorrow.

Also today I'm going to my friends dh funeral Sad.

And I have a headache

Sorry for the moan, I'd quite like to hide under my bed covers today! Sad

IVEgotthePOWER · 23/07/2018 07:23

Oh foxes Brew be kind to yourself!

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/07/2018 07:42

You are allowed to moan foxes.

My back is in agony and spasming muscles. That will be gardening I did yesterday then Hmm

Another long to do list today. BUT I am delegating a good chunk of it so what I have to do is a short 4 item list (with 1 item being a huge collection of tasks)

I feel today requires coffee and pain killers. Might even get around to booking that physio appointment that I have been saying I needed for nearly a year Blush

IVEgotthePOWER · 23/07/2018 07:45

Morning hills Brew

Do you know i realised last night i have been taking pain killers for back ache most days for about two weeks Blush im never normally so reliant. Going to try and go without and it is still very sore see my gp. I shouldnt need to get dosed up daily i am sure!

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/07/2018 08:39

Yep you probably should see your GP.

Right awake enough to try to brave the pain enough to actually move. I am sure I have just stiffened up over night and will be fine when I get going. It is just the motivation to get going that is the issue...
Blush

I've2weeks you really should get that looked at!!
Hills wish my list had delegate on it but alas that would mean ww3 and still no progress

Difficult weekend,I need get on and clear up but it's already getting hot and my motivation has disappeared leaving me to a sloth like creature....

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 09:08

Morning!

(Hands heat treating embrocation for Hills, Foxes and I've. Hope you all feel much better soon.)

Wing flaps to everyone else!

I am struggling on. Making progress but slowly! Decluttering, laundry, holiday organisation are all getting done but at a snail's pace because of heat! Not helped by (v) late notice of family visitors staying in our house while we are away (not something I had anticipated!) which adds quite a bit to "to do" list!

DD is on the one hand complaining that we won't be done in time to get off on holiday, whilst at the same time not being remotely helpful. When I gave her a (discrete/simple) task "to speed things along", she didn't do it . I am trying to remain upbeat and not seethe but boy it takes an effort!

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 09:10

X posts Zoo. Same here! I hardly dare look at weather forecast for week ahead (wibbles).

But ds gone to my mum's now as I'm going to the funeral in a bit. Headache has subsided too. I've got about an hour before I need to leave so going to try and get a few bits done so I don't just sit around waitingSad

Hope it goes ok Foxes, I'm off to one this afternoon too, a friend of my parents who I have known since childhood.

I've been struggling to keep up with the thread, but am filled with resolve to get the DCs doing more housework in the holidays, watch this space.

foxessocks · 23/07/2018 10:05

Thanks everyone Flowers

Ta da
Daily routine
Towels in wash
Cleared dd floor ready for potential hoovering later (although it really is too hot!!)

To do
Hoover upstairs

Continue decluttering and putting clothes away neatly - nearly finished all the clothes just a bit more of a push needed but it involves some ironing and I'm just too hot. The weather is my main excuse at the momentGrin

foxessocks · 23/07/2018 10:06

Just remembered I also have an orthodontist appointment later. This day keeps giving Hmm

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 10:10

So sorry Foxes I missed the bit about it being your friend's funeral today. Hoping it brings a bit of comfort to you and to everyone concerned but it can't be at all easy Flowers

Same to you and your family Whoknows

Bowerbird5 · 23/07/2018 10:12

A difficult day for you foxes. Thinking of you.

Well I have finally read through all the pages of poorly people, new ponies/ big horses( I am a horsey girl too), moves, gardening and arsy husbands/ other halves. I have one of those too but he is away so peace reigns just now. Actually he was very helpful last trip home and did lots of weeding and laying membrane and bark.i am still waiting for quote about summer house which I won't get until autumn. They can line and paint it if I want. Depends on price. DD and I are thinking of making it a place to draw and paint. Will also be used for afternoon tea and gin tasting by bestie and I !
Need to make decision about kitchen/stove.

Well I am in the boudoir however I have crawled back on bed instead of making it! Had to get up to take DD to work and I was still tired. I have relented and had to use Anti D's for stress as I was going to pieces and very teary. Wish I had done it a fortnight ago as now much calmer but a bit dopey / can't be arsed. Work has been awful and there is more to come next term. I need to decide this week if I want to go back or just hand my notice in and maybe retire. Plan was to do two more years to pay for the kitchen I like rather than the make do one.
DS has gone to boyfriends after today but left cat so I can't go away😒
If I could have gone from Saturday - Tuesday I could have distressed then. Come back to tackle house. She promised to help but is working and wants to go out somewhere nice on Wed. I would like some house help!
Big wing flaps to everyone.
zoo how is your DS I wonder if it is a form of migraine?
cags you are amazing. I know what you mean about house our last house never looked so good. I went mad with paint brush and tarted up rooms, skirting etc before putting on the market. Cleaned it like never before. Living in it you have other responsibilities and stop seeing the mess.
Honky not sure if I gave you a welcome but great to have you here. How old are your kids?
I've hhmm! Men! Just hang in there imagine him with a pigs snout each time he is annoying. Can you leave him to it and have a drink with a friend?
To get up to frenzied clean or have a nap to catch up on sleep? Had to shut window because someone opposite is burning garden rubbish and smoke is coming right in and was before I got home.B's!
It was 22 at 8am and 24 at 8:40am. Looks like rain now.

Bowerbird5 · 23/07/2018 10:14

Thinking of you too Whoknows crossed posts

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 10:27

Bowerbird very, very best of luck with your decision. It's a shame you can't go away and think about it having de-stressed a bit. Could you tell your dd you really need a break? (The cat is her responsibility not yours!!) A gruelling term you have just been through is bound to take it out of you Flowers Take it very steady x

Cagliostro · 23/07/2018 11:24

Oh boy, sorry about all the crappy weekends and difficult Mondays ahead. I thought your friend had already had the funeral foxes I really hope it is peaceful and that their little DC is OK :( and who sorry too, it is hard to say goodbye to friends of our parents as when you grow up knowing them they are like family too.

Well not the Monday I'd planned here - I have woken up in pain flare up mode. It was inevitable though TBH, I have done so much over the last few days. The cleaning yesterday really took it out of me (another reason to never let this house get so bad - far easier on me to do little and often). I'm happy though, I love my new house!

It's frustrating as I am now staying home with Cagletini instead of going to help. However I may well have been too busy baby wrangling to help much anyway so maybe it's better we stay away especially as there will be paint fumes, polyfiller and dust from drilling etc.

I'm trying to get the odd bit done but mostly just resting and hopefully will be back on form on Wednesday or at least Friday to get more done at the old house.

Scoopofchaff · 23/07/2018 11:48

Staying at home baby wrangling is helping Cag!! Sorry you are feeling the after effects of all the recent day's efforts but really great that you are so happy in your new home Smile!!

Despite trying my best to be patient, DD and I have had "words" this morning after her being "a bit bold" as my Irish mammy used to say, which covers everything from back-chatting to general rudeness. She and I are both quite quick to flare up but I am the adult in the room so I feel bad now. However, the positive side is that we are both quick to make up and mend and start laughing in the middle of an argument too. Needless to say, dh ( who I have to give credit to here as he stepped in very firmly to back me up) finds all of this all a bit wearing as he is very calm and non-confrontational. Poor bloke having to put up with the pair of us.

Anyway, dd and I are now the best of friends again and is reluctantly doing some chores while I swelter in the kitchen and make her birthday cake for tomorrow! I did not want to put the oven on today but needs must!

HonkyWonkWoman · 23/07/2018 11:49
