Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

FOR FUCKS SAKE OF FOR FUCKITY FUCKS SAKEAngry

my front door has been sticking and progressively drag bottom door frame.phone council yesterday for repairs.no apps til mid August, and none to book available til monday.i explain similar happen before and it stopped locking.eing out of hours happens over the weekend...
Sure enough locks have failed.ooh over the weekend it won't get fixed just made secure, and I've had to fight for that as originally told it could wait til Monday
Back access is difficult to say the least and in the event of a fire I think it's extremely dangerous as layout means we have to go thru only room downstairs to get to kitchen to get out.if fires in either those rooms we are screwed
Why couldn't they have just looked at the fucker yesterday?aibu?!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/07/2018 17:26

Oh no zoo Flowers

HonkyWonkWoman · 21/07/2018 17:48

No YANBU Zoo got to say, I love a good swear when things go wrong.

Scoopofchaff · 21/07/2018 18:04

Oh that's a bummer Zoo

It is very humid and I have a cracking headache. DD is hormonal stroppy.

It is National Day today and I got back in time to watch the defilé (military parade) on the telly and watch the fly past. Helicopters came frighteningly low over our garden to the extent that the ground felt like it was shaking!! I must admit I was grateful their mission was a peaceful one!

Other than emptying and filling dw, putting x 2 loads of washing on, and shoving a ready meal in oven, I have not done much.

I want to at least clean out boudoir drawers and line tonight so can fill tomorrow. Everything seems like such hard work in this treacle-air weather though.

Cagliostro · 21/07/2018 19:18

Out for dinner at our new local :o knackered but very happy.

Will catch up later but sorry about the door Zoo. We will be on at the HA on Monday too as after they made a huge deal of the tenancy agreement stating that we must not use the attic - and ensuring that there was nothing up there at all - it turns out said attic is in fact stuffed full of bin bags of random crap?! Hmm

HonkyWonkWoman · 21/07/2018 20:01

Rubbish left in the attic 😱Annoying Cag! HA will have to move it!
Anyway! well done with move and enjoy the meal in your new local.

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/07/2018 20:51

Enjoy cag

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 21/07/2018 21:15

Oh how annoying zoo although very glad your door is fixed.

Also very annoying about attic Cag. Totally agree this weather makes it hard to do things SC.

Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

We are in zone 3 this week which is the bathroom and one extra room.

It’s the weekend though, so no missions or zone work unless you want to.

Scoopofchaff · 21/07/2018 21:44

Ta for links Toostressy!

Congrats on moving in CAG! Hope you are having a lovely evening! (Wierd about the stuff in the roof though; I wonder who it belongs to?)

Glad door fixed Zoo - sorry your dp being so rude though Flowers

A bit of a Flying fail for me today. Woeful performance. Seem to have the energy levels of a slug currently!

IVEgotthePOWER · 22/07/2018 07:49

zoo perfect time for you to send him back to his own house i think BrewFlowers

I eventually got an appology from mine although was rather half hearted, i hope he realises he on thin ice...m

cag how was first night in new house? I bet the previous tenants dumped the rubbish, we once moved into a private let and found shed full of old fridge etc Hmm landlord tried charge us for removal....errr no

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/07/2018 07:52

Morning folks. A 7am alarm feels more evil on a Sunday. Even if it is the same time as it goes off normally. Godness knows why.

My day in a nutshell, driving a round trip, all the chores, driving a round trip. It should be ending in the beach but I am soo tired and there is soo much to do that it is not going to happen. Why the round trip you ask? No trains on a sunday, and my lovely sister has offered to come help with all the things. It will be worth the round trips productivity wise, also I find driving therapeutic.

Didn't get that far on my list from yesterday.
my room didn't get touched at all as ds' room had to be tackled.
Matresses didn#t get touched either
So those related tasks are still on the list but will have to be done Wednesday. Monday will be a day of rest.

Today:
Garden?
Ds' room
lounge some more

Scoopofchaff · 22/07/2018 08:04

Morning! It was like a sauna here overnight! Still have headache (harrumph).

Cagliostro · 22/07/2018 08:11

Morning all! Woke up at 6ish, baby slept through as well which was great. I think it helped that we put the cot at the other end of the room (there's space for a whole other king bed between them! I can't believe I was ever worried about room size!) as she wasn't disturbed by us moving etc.

I reeeeally want to get unpacked but we are going to the old house soon and must save our energy for that.

Caglets slept well although they were nervous about sleeping on their own!

Plan for today - others going to small Tesco (small enough to ignore Sunday trading rule) for breakfast stuff, lunch supplies to take with us and movie night snack. Go to old house, spend day cleaning and writing down repairs/purchases we need to make. Also need to use wifi there to sort a few admin things. Caglets can play at the neighbour's for a bit and keep out of the way.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/07/2018 09:43

We have woken up to a broken oven Sad. Not the end of the world but annoying and could do without having to pay to have it fixed. In laws still here so they are playing with DDs, one of us will have to go to shops as soon as they open as the roast chicken is not going to be an option for lunch now!

Scoopofchaff · 22/07/2018 11:30

Oh how annoying Toostressy sod's law that an appliance breaks when you have visitors! At least it's not mid-winter which is something I suppose!

Good sign that you all slept well on your first night in your new home Cag Smile. Good luck with all the cleaning!

Safe driving Hills and have a lovely time with your sister!

Very pleased to hear you got an apology I've!

How are you doing this morning Zoo?

Having carbo-loaded and downed three cups of tea (to prevent migraine; well that's my excuse anyway) I find myself glued to Brexit threads when I should be hoovering. Someone get the biggest sharpest and pointiest stick they can possibly find and give it a vigorous jab in my direction please!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/07/2018 11:50

Grin Toostressy! You know me too well Grin

Thank you everybody! Encouragement both strong and soft equally welcome and equally beneficial! Smile

Just find this housekeeping lark so so boring; would rather do anything than tackle it. Ridiculous really at my age! The beauty of this thread is that it makes one feel less alone in the midst of the boringness ifyswim! Grin

I'm loving the furry emoticons Honky! And fab list too Star

Zoo I think it may only qualify as a day of rest if one didn't rest yesterday ... !!! Blush Blush but thank you anyway!!

Right, I am picking up the nozzle. I am plugging in. (And yes I am referrring to the hoover not the hairdryer Wink)

Cagliostro · 22/07/2018 15:31

Lots of cleaning done. I am now sitting outside the old house on a camping chair feeding the baby! Neighbor looked after her and the Caglets for a while which meant we got loads done

Bowerbird5 · 22/07/2018 17:31

😀 that was kind of her. I bet she is going to miss you.

I can't believe you have actually moved Cags!
I need to find where I was and catch up with the threads.

Toostressy annoying. I have a few loads of washing to catch up on and my washing machine has stopped completely just whines when you put it on. I wish now I had ordered the kitchen instead of procrastinating as we have an integrated one on the plan and as it is a short run of units it would look much better. We can only fit washing machine, sink and slim line dishwasher on that wall because the back door is there. Trust it to go now and I have done about five extra washes for someone else. Hope son 2 will let me use his machine.
It has come out really hot here this afternoon.

Done b all today.
Took DD to work, went to church, made lunch. Watched recycling programme ( she can have my washer) and ate some of my chocolates that one of the kids gave me.
Picked DD up 15 mins ago.
What a lazy mare!

Cagliostro · 22/07/2018 17:43

Yes she is lovely and we will miss each other, our DDs are great friends. So it’ll be weird them not being on each other’s doorsteps and it’s pretty much the only thing that DD is sad about re the move! We are babysitting a couple of times next month though (neighbour is single mum working FT, summer holidays are hard!)

Definitely not a day of rest here! So much scrubbing, wiping, bleaching, spraying, vacuuming done. We’ve also made a list of all the little bits and pieces we need to buy tomorrow (lightbulbs, door handles which broke etc). So much more still to do but the kitchen in particular is gleaming now.

Which does make you think, why the fuck wasn’t it when we actually lived there?! It’s ridiculous really. All these little things that needed cleaning, things like little marks on the banisters etc that actually took all of five seconds each to scrub off... and yet we didn’t. And how miserable did it make the house feel as it was, overall, horrible. When we could have sorted so much of it quickly. Goes to show Flylady is right, if you can do it in under 15 minutes, just bloody do it!

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/07/2018 18:26
