Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

www.waitrose.com/home/recipes/recipe_directory/m/moroccan_prawns_and_couscous.html. It's a Waitrose recipe zoo" but I've never tried it before . I've done moroccon chicken and moroccon lamb but never prawns. I reckon it would go nicely with cod!

Scoopofchaff · 19/07/2018 15:55

Happy travelling Cassandra!

I've that is seriously hard core ploughing on without sleep like that

Big mug of Brew and slice of Cake for Toostressy for surviving end of term/leavers madness!

Waves to Honky Bowerbird Goth Honu Hills MsForestier and everyone I've missed!

Thinking of you Cag and all you have to do! More power to your elbow and all of that!

Crikey Foxes I'm really impressed by your imaginative menus - it takes some doing when your two are still so small - I think dh and I lived on ham and cheese sandwiches when dd was a baby! I didn't bake until she was about three either I don't think except on v rare occasions!

Zoo I think you are right to keep ds off school; good that he is feeling a bit better at home though as it shows things going in right direction hopefully.

Ahem. I am seriously seriously in love.

And yes,

You guessed it.

He has furry ears, a long face, and feet like dinner plates Grin.

Having had a busy life in a riding school in the UK, he came over here and immediately had nearly seven weeks of holiday on lush pasture with equine companions. But despite being full of energy and not being ridden for all that time, he didn't forget his manners, he stands stock still to be groomed and mounted, he is incredibly forgiving of us fussing about (dare I say he enjoys it!) and he is beautifully kind.

He is so kind that, when another horse in his herd had a problem with his hocks, and was isolated in another field prior to the vet coming out to visit, our horse went to him and stayed with him overnight [dabs eye with corner of handkerchief]

I wish you could all meet him. He's quite intimidating in terms of size but really he is just a big teddy bear.

He is so kind he makes me cry ... .

Smile
Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2018 15:58

Yum.thats added to my extensive to try list foxesSmile

I've pulled up my big girl pants to my neck, rolled up sleeves and dug deep

Tada
My room
Decluttered square foot by the door,so I can at least get in and out properly.cleared floor along window side of bed
My room is deffo the house dumping ground-outgrown uniform aplenty, odd socks and girls earring that are never going to find a mate etc.time to be ruthless!!kept couple socks to use in the girls hair for simple buns I found on pinterest
Half bin bag came out

Inspired I thrust forward into the girls torture pit-hour later I have a floor.binbag of rubbish 3full loads washing(excluding the towels breeding under dd2 bed, that may be another 2loads worth!!...)
My nose is streaming from all the dust and wtf were there crusty socks also under dd2 bed ? I'd assumed girls weren't as feral as boys, but it appears the teen years have rendered them equal

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2018 16:00

You tell us of new furry, but where's the pics SC??

Scoopofchaff · 19/07/2018 16:00
Scoopofchaff · 19/07/2018 16:02

I've been umming and erring about posting pics Zoo - I know it sounds mad - but being a riding school horse not far from your neck of the woods (a bit more south) and shall I say distinctive/and a bit of a character - he is quite well known so bit worried it may be outing. Not that any of those people know me ... but ... not sure!!

Can you pm photos do you know?

foxessocks · 19/07/2018 16:16

sc aww he does sound lovely!! As for imaginative menus I do like to cook different things and try new recipes, I have a huge list of recipes I want to go through like zoo. I'm working my way through my cakes and bakes book at the moment. It's a bit of a hobby I suppose.

Ta da
Decluttered and sorted all of dd clothes - two drawers are now totally empty Shock and I really need to get her some new pants...

Dh has come home from work saying he thinks he's coming down with something, sore throat and achey - not what I wanted to hear!

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2018 17:19

Don't talk to me about new pants foxes got lil zoo some when realised down to 3pairs and she HATES then.claims uncomfy and huge.wrm your drawers were so small they kept ride up bum so they will feel big by comparison.keeps refuse wear or put cycle shorts over top....grrrr

SC give pm photo a try😊

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/07/2018 17:52

You can't pm pictures (or at least you couldn't last time I looked)
the colour sorcery in the rocket powered pointy stick is due to how internet links work and are coded here

I am eating ice cream. It is still the only thing that helps. It is fecking boiling still.
Was supposed to be tackling ds' room tonight but they have had a thing at school and he has peopled all day so can't handle anymore interaction with people. So I think I might have to tackle mine. But I don't want to if I am honest. I might go out in the garden for a bit. Just eating some tea, drinking my coffee and about to put a work clothes load on to wash.

Scoopofchaff · 19/07/2018 18:11

Oh that's a shame Hills! Eating ice cream in a cool garden sounds just the ticket though ... .

Maybe I will sneak in a quick photo later on in the thread ... without attendent info ... we'll see! (Happy to send via e-mail though Zoo if you want to pm me; no worries either way.)

Oh no, hope your dh is ok Foxes! You sound like a future Bake Off/Masterchef contestant in the making! Grin

IVEgotthePOWER · 19/07/2018 18:25

It is national ice cream day 🍦

Scoopofchaff · 19/07/2018 18:41

Oh well, it's our civic duty to eat some in that case ....

hard job but for queen and country and all of that ...

HonkyWonkWoman · 19/07/2018 18:51

Hi all...
Back from hospital appointment and Consultant was not too worried. He advised a scan and if nothing shows up, that will be "it".
Talking of horses. The Dgdtwins19 have had a Cob since they were 12.
Dd rides him and looks after him while they're at Uni. He's a lovely gentle soul as well. Do you want photos?

Ta da
Dusted downstairs
Vacuum downstairs
Look at Buffydog hairs on stairs and give up! Too hot to do stairs!
Brush moulty Ddog again.

There's a Pie and Mash shop in our village and they've won an award for their pies. The lady is in the back of the shop and cooks and bakes everything, it's very homemade. DRelative fancied Suet Beef Pudding, mash, mushy peas, carrots and gravy. I got him a take-away and she makes delicious cakes. I got a huge slice of Bakewell Tart, to treat myself when we got back from hospital. To die for!!!

Cagliostro · 19/07/2018 18:57

Having a little rest after getting back and, to my credit, actually getting straight on with some cleaning straight away as baby was still asleep.

So we got some more stuff moved over, including more things like books (how did we STILL have more books? I actually decluttered a load last year too?!) that I could unpack into piles on the floor (would be unpacking into shelves but due to the Ikea fiasco that couldn’t happen) so we brought a load of boxes back to reuse again. They will be BRCs but needs must.

Other things unpacked at the new house include some kitchen equipment and all of the store cupboard food (not much). We’ve ditched anything that just won’t get used, including a little freezer stuff. I also washed half the crockery left by the previous tenant.

At the new house, my friend got the kids pulling weeds and painting the little picket fence on the edge of the decking. It’s not something we are keeping long term (may replace next year) but for now it looks so much brighter and the Caglets are super proud too! And in the meantime my friend started painting the actual fence too. We won’t carry on now until we have handed back the keys here, but it’s a great start, it’s a lovely colour (Cuprinol Iavender) and is a decent wood treatment thing apparently. Plus she’s given us lots of gardening advice. DH pulled up the extra paving slabs, just leaving a narrower path.

It was really lovely seeing the kids working hard and being proud! They’ve not really had the experience before, we’ve never had a garden or decorated or anything like that. So many new experiences already.

I also started cleaning at the old house, tempting as it is to leave it all until we have moved, I figured I may as well make a start as there is so much to do. Just scrubbing doors and stuff like that. And since getting home I’ve packed another box as well as more cleaning.

Soooo much more to do! DH is at St. John with the Caglets, baby is still asleep, I’m just drinking Dr Pepper and watch the Simpsons :o but I’m glad I got some stuff done. DH hasn’t eaten while waiting for the Caglets, we are going to have a takeaway together tonight :)

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2018 19:04

Well done cag and cagletsStar

We love pics honky if not outingSmile
Glad hospital went smoothly.wish we had pie shop like that when cooler be divine
