Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Hot here too although it's actually quite cloudy at the moment. I would like some rain for the garden!

Ta da

MsForestier · 18/07/2018 11:02

Thanks SC. Twas Amsterdam and as you know it's hot in Europe now! I am so lazy today. Staring at detritus and shuffling in pajamas. So much for 'dressed to laced up shoes'...

Hope lad better zoo.

MsForestier · 18/07/2018 11:03

Have paid house insurance for the year. That's something!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/07/2018 11:15

Love the sound of the sock game SC.

Ive BrewBrewBrewBrew

zoo, I also love autumn, can’t wait for it!

Have a lovely holiday Cassandra.

foxes, you sound as if you are doing loads of decluttering Star.

Nice to have you back MsForestier Smile. Sorting house insurance is definitely an achievement.

School event lovely again. Lots of upset though as a few staff leaving (bloody budget cuts Angry) which is very sad.

So I have not done any flying and not much prospect of getting any done today tbh. Hoping to book airport parking later and need to email about something.

Will at least manage to put another load of laundry on then going out for a run which does not appeal in the slightest.

Thanks for the pointy sticks and razors!
I shaved the bits that needed to be shaved. Washed my hair. Left it to dry by itself. Hope to straighten it at some point today and also paint toes today.
Didn't fake tan either. I never do it usually so then for weddings/holidays I'm always worried I'll do it wrong so don't bother in the end. It's in my suitcase so it'll come over and back to Spain without being opened at all. Just remembered the fake tan glove is not in the suitcaseHmm

I also left the house reasonably tidy - I like coming back to a tidy house. Future aim is to have a cleaner who would come in while I'm gone and the place would be spick and span when I get back. Life goals Grin

HonkyWonkWoman · 18/07/2018 12:23

Hope you managed to get a few hours sleep with Ds3 I've BrewBrewBrew
And sorry Zoosboy still poorly! BearFootballFlowers
Wing flaps to Fellow Fledglings!

Ta da
Fed car and Buffy dog
Empty dw
Swish and swipe
Write shopping list
Brush Buffy dog (ponder if could stuff a sofa with the mounds of hair)

To do
Shopping
Vacuum
Dust

Need to get extra shelves put up in under stairs storage, so I can declutter but can't be bothered asking the joiner as can't be bothered with someone in the house. Feel a bit bleugh tbh!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/07/2018 18:26

Exhausting day has left me with a banging headache. We are just tidying up tea then going to start bathtime. I’m desperate to get into my PJs!

Excellent work to leave the house tidy Cassandra. Honky, extra shelves sound great once you can face getting them put in.

Slightly feeble tired wing flaps to all.

foxessocks · 18/07/2018 19:46

Ta da
Bought teacher presents /card
Made marmalade flapjacks
Decluttered and sorted all ds clothes and folded neatly away - freed up a whole drawer and nothing hanging in the wardrobe either!
Decluttered my pyjamas drawer and folded neatly away
Took three big bags of clothes to the charity shop
Took books / teddies to lady who wanted them for tombolas
Cooked dinner - lentil Bolognese and pasta
Tidied kitchen after dinner
Did online food shop for next week
Finished meal plan for next week
Ordered meal deal from butchers
Booked some tickets that I'd been meaning to do

Tomorrow - more clothes sorting. I'm slightly putting tidying other areas to one side for now and actually trying to get some real decluttering done. I'm thinking once I've done lots and lots of decluttering then will be the time to organise stuff into the right places / storage etc. But we'll see how it goes , early days.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/07/2018 20:20

Oh dear zoo, at least you realised. I am in awe of your decluttering foxes.

Both DDs are asleep thank goodness and I still have a headache. Going to post links, get into PJs and then get laundry on the line. So, so tired. 3 days of school leavers events is exhausting.

Blah. Tired. Don’t feel like we’ve done as much today even though we have done a reasonable amount really.

✅ordered Tesco... first delivery to the new house! A bit of food for while we are there doing stuff over the next couple of days (during the day only) and lots of household cleaning stuff.
✅a bit more packing
✅a bit of decluttering
✅Caglets’ Room is pretty much gutted
✅met friends for dinner (Also decluttered a bag of stuff going to friend’s DD)
✅packed lots of clothes in suitcases, the rest will probably go over in the car, still on hangers
✅made plans for tomorrow, this was surprisingly stressful so feels like an achievement!
✅arranged landlord visit - a week after we move out. So 6 days to clean up after the move. Eeeeeek

Bowerbird5 · 19/07/2018 06:24

Just popping in to say hi and borrow pointy stick.
Having a stressful time at school. Was off yesterday and did nothing😥laura Ashley have loads of bargains in store. I reluctantly returned seat pad as it was too small for outside chair and bought a runner and 6 placemats instead. It is just because I love the material. I also bought a couple of shopping lists and a pen it will do for small presents.they are magnetic so lists will stick to fridge.
Will try to catch up with your goings on you have been busy bees.

foxessocks · 19/07/2018 06:42

Been up since 4.30 with ds. He is being a strop bag. BrewBrewBrew

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2018 07:56

foxessocks · 19/07/2018 08:26

I'm so tired! Going to drop dd at nursery soon then attempt to get ds to have a morning nap as we've got to go a leaver's thing at dd nursery this afternoon.

To do
Daily routine
Swish and swipe bathroom
Make us all packed lunches / picnic
More clothes decluttering / sorting

Cagliostro · 19/07/2018 09:00

Argh. Got to get going. Friend who helped last week is coming back up in just over an hour to pick up DD, they will get stuff done in the garden and then we will take more bits over and get more sorted out over there while both Caglets continue outside.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2018 09:18

I've dash Asda at 7am to pick up teacher gifts, and dd2 was getting snacks her own money as last day her whole class together (some off to Thorpe park trip tomorrow) so they're scoffing snack treats at lunch...
Back
Fed n watered girls
Pack up
Shove them out door....

Just walk D's local co op for cat litter(5min walk max).i think sadly it might've been quite ambitious thinking I could get him in tomorrow.he was fearful as everything "was tilting sideways" turning corners he veers all over the place like a drunkard and he was very fearfulSad
He's doing better at home.negotiating stairs(just about) now.still can't read more ten minutes.can watch food network(my choice of daytime channel)but not shows where much movement...I'm very disappointed but I don't think it would be fair get him driven in to a building spread over 3floors with couple thousand kids bustling thru corridors...

IVEgotthePOWER · 19/07/2018 09:49

zoo i think it would be wise to keep him home, he could easily fall or be knocked on the stairs and end up much worse off

IVEgotthePOWER · 19/07/2018 09:49

I am alive following yesterdays complete lack of sleep

OH is still a twat

foxessocks · 19/07/2018 09:59

I've any tips on how you survived as I have lost my temper already today and ds is driving me mental because he is clearly tired but will not give in! And I want a nap!! Sorry about your OH.Sad

Please send toddler calming vibes my way . I desperately need him to sleep or we won't get through the afternoon. He obviously knows that I'm desperate and therefore is refusing completely.

IVEgotthePOWER · 19/07/2018 10:02

Ds3 had 2 hour nap yesterday morning. I managed about an hour. Lay on sofa and drank tea for the rest of it! I kept pretty busy and somehow kept going until 11pm!

Brew
foxessocks · 19/07/2018 10:15

I've that's impressive!! Sometimes you just manage to run on empty. Although I fear today is not that day for me. Ds is asleep at last. He zonked out on my shoulder I put him down and he said "no mummy!" but then closed his eyes again obviously changed his mind and decided a nap was a good idea Grin I'm going to have a cup of tea and read a bit of my book I think then try and do something. I think if I nap I'll just end up feeling groggy.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/07/2018 10:19

I've I've no words, but Angry on your behalf.mines trying, but it goes in cycles of best behaviour.he has made some progress and he's start have deal with sarky teens and getting better that rather going home in huff.as report might say"could definitely do better"

Tada
Tray veggies roasting-lots peppers as plan make dip with lactofree cream cheese for the girls after-school snack, plus as part dd2 dinner- red onion, broccoli, asparagus, courgettes, and fennel

Rang D's school,no one ateendance team avail to talk to me so left message saying unlikely be back after all.last thing I'd need is be knock a little, losing balance and headfirst down 2flights of stairs!!
Swept living room floor
Wash up
Wipe dining table
I had plan whizz thru house a bit this week.so far....NADA

I really need rocket powered pointy stick as basically I have today."d"p off Fri-mon,dd2 has orthodontic app at 2tom so it's go go go last day of term😟
