Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

------>>>>>> pointy stick to help Cassandra pack her case and shave her legs etc.😂

foxessocks · 17/07/2018 18:29

Fab news about dd sc! Hope you feel better soon though.

I ended up having a pretty productive afternoon. Once ds woke up I decided if you can't beat them join them so we played outside for a bit and then all the dc helped me sort out my socks!! This sounds crazy but my dd and her friend LOVED it! I'm pretty sure dd friend thinks I'm bonkers though!

Ta da
Finished daily routine
Swish and swipe downstairs loo
Decluttered dd cuddly toys - got rid of half of them!! Can't actually believe she did it, she did so well - kept saying other children would love to play with them now 🌟
Cleared out my socks
Cleared out dd socks
Cleared out top drawer of dd dressing table
Cleared out dh socks
Put all the keeping cuddly toys in one big basket in DD room and her special teddies on her bed
Decluttered some toys from living room
Cleared out loads of baby books
Did calendar check (but I'm still none the wiser as to what's going on this week, so much and it's all just all over the place Confused)
Have put cuddly toys and books in boot of car to drop off with lady who wants them for raffles / tombolas for local school
Cooked piri piri chicken thighs chips and corn on the cobs for dinner
Tidied kitchen after dinner

Phew!! Doesn't look like a lot of progress because the house is actually pretty messy now with all the upheaval but we got rid of loads so I'm pleased.

Also I did the special Kondo style sock folding Grin

I like doing a mix of both actually and it's certainly given me a bit of a boost with decluttering as I'd hit a bit of a mental wall with it.

Dc are in the bath so I must do some ironing.

Scoopofchaff · 17/07/2018 19:22

Aw at your dd giving away her toys to other DC so readily Foxes bless her! And arf at sock Pelmanism Grin. I'm sure we had a board game which involved ( cardboard!) sock pairing once. They all had slightly different designs iirc. Real life sock pairing much more exciting though!

Holding the baby allowing your dh to pack is achieving CAG! Well done re: all the jettisoning!

Take it steady Honky!

Good luck with the speed pampering Cassandra and hope you have a lovely break!

Goth hope all ok and you survived end-of-term madness!

Scoopofchaff · 17/07/2018 19:29

Btw post play date gin down thread was meant for you Foxes not Zoo! (Although Zoo, and others, you are very welcome to my secret stash any time you are in need Wink.)

Have hung up washing, stacked DW, put more washing on, finished admin. That's me done for the day until it cools down a bit.

Cagliostro · 17/07/2018 19:48

====]] instead of the pointy stick here’s a pointy razor for leg shaving motivation

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/07/2018 20:21

Pointy razor Cag??! Sounds vicious! Very impressive ta da lists Hills and foxes.

Cag, I have no idea really about the advice, I just know how annoying it is to be on the receiving end Grin.

zoo, your meals sound delicious yet again.

YU to suncream staining polos Ive. I find the end of the summer term very tiring.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Cassandra, I can totally related to finding it hard to be autonomous. Which is so odd as the vast majority of the time I am it is just when they are involved in stuff. Good luck for holiday packing!!

It must have taken a lot to hold your tongue on holiday Honky.

Fab news about your DD and her horse SC.

Ta da:-
Went to school event which was a bit of a sob fest (in a lovely way). God knows what we will all be like tomorrow on the last official day!
More uniform sorting: sold one bundle, one bundle provisionally sold, person coming to collect tomorrow. One lot of uniform packaged up to give to a friend of a friend. Still some uniform hanging around to see if it sells but if not will donate or put away. Spare stuff packed away and most of new uniform put in wardrobes (I like to have it in there to keep me going over the long summer holiday Grin).

BTW Aldi have a school uniform event on at the moment. Can’t say the prices are hugely better than other stores when they have offers on but they are no more expensive and it is definitely handy. Some nice stationary too.

To do:-
I don’t know what we are going to do for tea. We are meant to be having frozen pizza as an economising drive. It does not appeal!
Some other type of evening routine.

Cagliostro · 17/07/2018 20:34

Well sharp razor then. As you can see it’s a double blade. Or here’s 3 if you like Venus razors ===]]]

My own self care is distinctly lacking although I did do my legs when I eventually had a bath. Given up keeping particularly clean TBH it’s just a houseful of dust ATM.

I managed to pack a box myself of a few kitchen things, I’ve also sent a couple of messages I was procrastinating over. Starting to formulate a plan for Thursday when family friend is coming up again, this includes getting our first Tesco delivery there (toiletries etc).

DH is being fucking amazing today, just powering through it, he’s moved onto the kitchen now. I have even forgiven him for forgetting to get me chocolate earlier.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/07/2018 22:05

Your DH sounds lovely Cag Smile.

Today I must try harder.i had a plan in my head to try sort house a bit before they are all underfoot.this plan has so far not got further than idea stage...

DS was carried down for a bit as dad was about.hes eating a little 3x a day.moves like newborn foal(but with ability to put hands out to walls etc for steadying)still only able watch TV short bursts.strugglung to read.SC is this "normal"?(he has form for milking things to the max, which makes me sound a right bitch)

foxessocks · 18/07/2018 06:51

I've poor you BrewBrewBrew

Thanks for the post play date gin sc Grin they were good as gold really but the amount of mess they made Shock

Dd is at nursery this morning so going to make use of the time with more decluttering (where ds allows me to anyway!). Thought we'd have a quiet morning and then pick dd up and go and do some shopping that's needed and have lunch. Wondering whether to invite my mum so she can help with the dc as we are going towards her house anyway Grin

I'm still feeling motivated hope it lasts! (It usually doesn't!)

Also is the sock game good?! Never heard of that before.

MsForestier · 18/07/2018 06:56

(formerly Lisette - name changed)

Have been on holiday. Dear Lord house is in a terrible state - laundry and suitcases everywhere. Slunking back to Flylady thread.

Scoopofchaff · 18/07/2018 07:05

Doesn't make you sound a bitch Zoo! Children can be opportunists sometimes!

I certainly found screens very challenging during the worst of my dizziness although watching a tv was better than a computer screen. I was also hanging on to walls and lamp-posts (I'!m sure the neighbours thought I'd been at the sherry).
It's really awful because, to everyone else, you look absolutely fine, but inside everything is spinning and it's a bit frightening tbh. Reading I just didn't do.

Having said all of that, it is important I think to take little walks and to try and sit up (even though you really don't want to) and to lie flat or on your side all the time so that your body can re-gain it's equilibrium. Ironically, although it was awful while it was happening (and I was found not to have labyrinthitis ultimately ) I felt a lot better after all of the physio I had which spun me around and upside down etc. It kind of gives you confidence that if you can survive that, then you can survive anything! So I would encourage him to move a bit more now his tummy is more settled. Have they offered him postural physio/vestibular rehabilitation? (Look up the Epley technique.)

Obviously, this may not be appropriate for him at his age/ or if he has an ear infection or something so best if you ask doc.

I found a good thing at first is to sit in an upright chair - even better if an old fashioned one with wings - and listen to podcasts or some such. Then start going for little accompanied walks.

Best of luck to him!

Scoopofchaff · 18/07/2018 07:07

NOT to lie flat or on your side all the time

Scoopofchaff · 18/07/2018 07:10

Welcome back MsForestier hope you had a lovely time!

Have s good day Foxes and may the decluttering urge remain strong!

Scoopofchaff · 18/07/2018 07:13

Foxes the game is called Lucky Sock Dip made by Haba (usually well made and they replace missing bits if necessary!). DD used to like it a lot!

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/07/2018 07:15
