Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

I was supposed to be making some allergy friendly food but a double check on ingredients this morning means that I have screwed up and need to by actual allergy friendly ingredients BlushHmm And THIS is why i double check as I am about to make... Poisoning guests is not to be recommended Blush Ah well no harm no fowl...

Work, contacts, new ingredients, bed. That is my plan for today!

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/07/2018 08:05

Tada cont
Breakfasts and pack ups for the girls
Wash hung up to dry
More in
Give D's meds, make him some toast
Wash up
Wipe dining table
Make start cupboard understairs

To do
Sort out ore of cupboard understairs
Tip run
Bit shopping - mustn't forget cat food!!

I'd love squeeze in a nap somewhere,I'm really really tired(hopeful)

Cagliostro · 12/07/2018 08:41

Argh so so tired. Achy. Stressed. 9 days till the big move. Fucking hell.

I also seem to have been roped into a day trip this Saturday and staying over with family which I actually don’t want to do because it causes me such epic anxiety. But for various reasons don’t have much choice. I’m not losing time that would be otherwise spent decluttering as DH will be at work anyway so I’ll make the most of having other people to hold the baby.

Tomorrow we are going to have to seriously get shit done. Still not sure if family is coming Hmm but hopefully a friend is. Her plan was to paint but TBH even with someone else doing most of it, we just don’t have time to facilitate it, much as it would be nice to white wash some of the place. So it will have to wait.

Aaaaargh sometimes having people help is more stress than it is worth. Maybe I’m overthinking.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/07/2018 09:33

Things are rarely as bad as we anticipate cagFlowers

Cupboard understairs is as done as needs be.(binbag of rubbish/crap)

Dp sitting watching Jeremy vile whilst I finish bit tidying upstairs then it's tip run.
My life is so rock n roll!!

Scoopofchaff · 12/07/2018 09:39

Aaaaargh sometimes having people help is more stress than it is worth. Maybe I’m overthinking.

Cag speaking as one in that situation now, trust me, you are NOT over-thinking!!

Good luck with everything. You'll do it! It won't be perfect. And it will be v stressful. But you will get through and it will be lovely Smile and all the hassle will have been worth it Flowers

CassandraLamontaigne · 12/07/2018 11:25

Hi all. We were away yesterday so got zero done
Cag I know what you mean about people not being helpful. When we moved from our tiny rabbit hutch sized house we couldn't pack because there was literally nowhere to put the boxes until the furniture was taken out. My sister came over to "help" and literally just picked up random things and said "where is this going?" And I'd say "nowhere right now". Then she'd put it down and pick up something else. Repeat until she finally went home. Hmm. In two weeks you'll be in your nice new house though Smile

Zoo the school's insistence on seeing medicine boxes strikes me as quite intrusive to people's privacy. Obviously nothing you can do if that's what they insist on but I'm really surprised. I'm a teacher (not in UK) and parents send us in a doctor's note which we keep on file. Our government isn't interested in absences until they exceed 20 days in a year. Even then it's just noted, nothing happens. O taught a child once who missed over 70 days (not a typo) every year and who I had many many other concerns about. Nothing was done. (Child was eventually moved to a special needs school and placed with foster parents 4 years later. I often think what a difference it would have made if they had been removed at the age of 5 and not 11)

Anyway, sorry, way off topic there , that was a stream of consciousness

Ta da
Shower
Dressed
Made bed
S&s one bathroom
DW empty (DH)
Laundry put away
Struggles with baby to dress him - he hates getting clothes on but is fine when dressed
Baby spilt water all over himself 4 minutes later. Struggles part 2 to dress in dry clothes. He's currently asleep on me , wore himself out ❤️

To do
Tidy kitchen
Arrange somewhere to keep glass for recycling
Walk through of house, return random misplaced items to homes
Cut t-shirt into rags for s&s
Quick hoover
15 mins in kitchen as per zone instructions

Scoopofchaff · 12/07/2018 11:48

Waves to Cassandra

Aw at clothes-resistant baby! Smile

What are you going to be doing with t-shirt rags if you don't mind me asking? (Nosey emoticon).

Helping effectively is definitely an art which requires intelligence, tact and energy!

Cag/Cassandra I'm afraid there are definite parallels with teens "helping" as well. Nags eight times to have them move one thing languidly from table to floor and back again. Turn around and 30 seconds later they are back on the sofa plugged in to their phone again. Grrrrrrrrr!! I really understand why people give up asking because the energy expended to get them to do something is more than the energy expended just doing it yourself!

Scoopofchaff · 12/07/2018 11:50

Oh sorry, do you mean s&s, as in bathroom cleaning? If so, that sounds like a v sensible use of them.

(Thought for a moment it might be some sort of craft I haven't heard of!!)

Ignore me, I have cotton wool brain today!

CassandraLamontaigne · 12/07/2018 12:00

SC yes for the bathroom cleaning! I feel a bit weird using a cloth for cleaning the loo that will potentially end up wiping down the kitchen counter

I wish I had a hobby though, I'm not quite sure what I do with my time. Reading my kindle while feeding the baby seems like it shouldn't occupy my whole day Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/07/2018 12:48

Hello all, at work, will be on later.

No flying so far today. Had a school visit with dd. My mum was round to look after ds. Ended up telling her about my friends husband and what happened and we both ended up almost crying and she even gave me a hug (my mum is not a hugger!) Feel emotionally drained now. Also saw my friend today , she is doing ok but it's all just so hard for her, she looked lost Sad

And dd fell off her scooter on the way home and she really bruised her bum. Took her to nursery this afternoon but she was quite tearful .

foxessocks · 12/07/2018 13:59

Going to have Brew and Cake and regroup, deep breath, then get started.

Ta da
Washing on
Dishwasher on

To do
Finish daily routine
Buy milk
15 minutes decluttering kitchen
Today's mission whatever that is, haven't looked yet.
Dinner - red lentil Thai curry

foxessocks · 12/07/2018 14:08

Cassandra feeding my babies while reading or watching TV are some of my happiest memories - it can definitely take a whole day! It's bonding time Wink

Sc even my four year old is like that sometimes, doesn't want to help , takes so much effort to do one tiny thing then I end up doing it myself anyway.

Scoopofchaff · 12/07/2018 14:11

Oh yes yeek Cassandra strictly separate cloths all the way!
And agree crafts & babies not very compatible!!

Oh no, hope your dd is ok Foxes and Brew for you!

Scoopofchaff · 12/07/2018 14:13

Meant to say Foxes there is a marvellous period of time between about six and eleven years when they are past toddler strops and not quite having tween strops yet when they are actually quite willing, able and helpful Grin Grin Grin

Scoopofchaff · 12/07/2018 14:15

Mind you, having written that, I think I must have erased from my memory the endless nagging about showering, teeth brushing, hair brushing, remembering of gym kit, hwk nagging that goes on then too!

foxessocks · 12/07/2018 14:26

sc I'll look forward to that then! Funnily enough my dad said to me the other day that "I quite enjoyed you and your brother between the ages of 5 and 11..." Worried me a bit about what happens after that! Grin

IVEgotthePOWER · 12/07/2018 16:42

I want your DD2’s tea zoo!

So sorry everyone, was at work then had to go out with the girls to deliver a thank you card and then got home and hit a wall and CBA to do anything. Have picked myself up though and am ready to put DDs to bed in a few minutes.

I know I will regret this a few hours into the school holidays but I am so ready for the end of term!

foxes, hope your DD not too sore, it’s a painful area to fall on bless her.

.

Cassandra, I agree with foxes, while you have a baby who is happy to sit and be cuddled then reading / TV / sitting is an excellent use of time.

Ive—————————> just in case you need the stick again.

Cag Flowers, such a stressful time moving.

Hills, good thing you picked up on allergy ingredient!

Big wing flaps to anyone else.
