Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

missions for the week

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Very sorry to hear that Hills that sounds very tough indeed for everyone Flowers

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2018 10:04

tbh SC i am using dad' situation do deal with mum's because she also has care needs and she is more open about how she feels about things in terms of her care when it is not focused on her needs - which is normal. We have managed to get her in the best health she has been in for decades so whilst her cognitive function is a little slippy she is doing really really well. We are trying to sort dad out but he is a stubborn bugger who knows better than the medical profession; and apparently weight loss and gentle exercise to improve his health is buncome. It is not impossible that a heart attack will kill him quicker than the disease. Tbh for his sake I hope this is how it happens for him. Especially if it is like his father's and he is dead before he hits the floor and knows nothing about it. The disease is degenerative and horribly slow and torturing for the sufferer. But that is the reality of life and death. You can only hope that there is as little suffering as possible.

Can you tell we have a big family event at the weekend? Grin Spoke to more of that side of the family yesterday than I have done in nearly 10 years - since the last funeral. Hmm Ah well. Paperwork not in the loft now to tackle the junk room send search party in half hour

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2018 10:05

Oh and just to clarify we actually have a family party not a funeral this weekend Blush

foxessocks · 11/07/2018 10:05

Oops sorry for double post there.

Have made my way home a lot quicker than I anticipated thanks to dropping dd early at nursery and driving there instead of walking. Very lazy but meant I could get the earlier bus back home. Goodness knows how long the car will be in the garage though. And I stupidly left the buggy in the boot Hmm

It's still very cool here so I'm actually enjoying a cup of tea on the sofa with ds.

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 10:21

Aye Hills media vita in morte sumus and all of that ... .

I am truly sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis Sad

It's very very hard but these things have to be confronted (gently). Funnily enough my late ma was equally open and "prepared" whereas my late father preferred "not to know the details". Men (generally speaking) find these things more difficult I think.

Large significant family gatherings do have a way of making one ponder all this sort of stuff. (Sounds as if there is a lot of weight on your shoulders too if you don't mind me saying so.)

Hope the party itself goes well though and proves a good (albeit temporary) distraction from the hardships Flowers

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/07/2018 10:22

Let us know if they are nice foxes

Hills family gatherings/funerals are pretty much same thing aren't they?Grinsorry you've had have tough conversations.getting old sucks and blowsFlowers
SC need get D's up and sorted first.one at a time do keeps nagging me,I will not be allowed to sweep my problems under the carpet!!

Spoke gp,more anti emetics then rang D's school.they want old pill packet as proof on prescribed meds, still may get a home visit.ive been told by doc no chance school this week.then we have to see how he is Monday once this round meds runs out.48hrs of proper eat/drinking have pass before fit for school!

Best get up and do some more jobs....

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2018 10:32

I have been feeling like I lost myself in all of my other hats that I have been wearing recently. But I know that it is an issue and I am trying to be mindful to keep that situation in check. So I have decided energy and life willing I will be going out to do something for me tonight. Right now only very minimal support is needed and plans are all being sorted for when more is needed for ease. But it does mean that I can take advantage of a babysitter for ds.

Mum is currently making ALLL the cakes for the weekend Grin she is in her element! SO I have not upset her too much. - its a tricky balance sometimes. Independance vs support vs care vs dignity. But that is why I want these conversations now. Then I know their wishes and can take this into account in the future.

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 10:39

Hills it's good to have plans in place. And can testify that the balance between independence v care v dignity is very tricky indeed. (And agree latter of utmost importance.)

Going out tonight sounds like a great plan Hills Grin hope you have a good 'un!

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 10:42

Zoo school want old pill pkt Shock. How ridiculous is that? Surely doc's note sufficient?

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/07/2018 10:55

Doctors don't give notes often, and usually cost money we don't have
Proper script meds are adequate "proof"
Not first school photocopy for their records meds boxes.fucking Ofsted.a school can be downgraded for low attendance so they chase you madly as need to be able to prove to Ofsted the school aren't taking it easy on plain old fashioned slackers...

Hills hope you enjoy your me time.you bloody deserve it lovely!

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 11:23

Oh sorry Zoo all sounds a bit of a nightmare. Here the doc doesn't give you a written note as such but a standard form in which they quickly tick the appropriate box ie the above person is unavailable for work/ school for X days; for y reason. Takes about five seconds!

Flying going very slowly today as DD has been texting me from riding course saying she has been in wrong group and it's taken a huge chunk of morning to sort out.

foxessocks · 11/07/2018 14:09

Ta da
Finished daily routine
Swish and swipe downstairs loo
Cleaned out fridge
Decluttered sides / freezer in kitchen
Another wash on
Raspberry pine nut bars in the oven (dd helped me make them but was reluctant as they don't have eggs in and she just likes whisking eggs Hmm. I made her turn the TV off to help, 4 going on 14!)
Spoke to garage car is ready to pick up

To do
Something from my ever present to do list for anti procrastination day...
Pick up car once dh home
Check recipe for tonight's dinner - steak pie, dauphinose (sp!?) potatoes and veg.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2018 14:41

I won't be going out as my eye is still really sore, but thankfully a lot less red Hmm but I don't think wearing contacts for several hours is going to help it. Plus too much to do here. But it does mean that tomo night I can do nice things for me and just ignore the team and the overall goal of getting the house guest ready for the 1st is looking possible so I am ok with that. Plenty of opportunity to do me things when the boy is with his dad this summer. 2 more week and counting until summer holidays start

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2018 14:42

not team ignore, just teen ignoring. Words are hard.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 11/07/2018 14:51

Hills Flowers. I agree with SC, it is so so important to discuss these things in advance so that makes absolute sense, although of course can be extremely difficult to do.

Sorry to hear of whole country bad mood SC. This is one of the problems with the World Cup.

Well I made it only a little bit late for the training but will have a long journey back to get my car later.

foxes, yes, does the to do list ever actually get done Confused?

zoo, the whole attendance thing with schools is so ridiculous at times and adds so much pressure to an overstretched GP service.

Big wing flaps to all, will be back on later once I manage to get home Hmm.
