Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

My ds is a typical toddler who sometimes eats nothing and other nights will eat a full on spicy chilli without batting an eyelid Hmm dd is coming out of that stage now and eats fairly consistently but has things she definitely won't eat i.e mushrooms, peppers but I just tell her to pick them out.

foxessocks · 10/07/2018 18:47

zoo I totally agree with cooking and the weather. I did struggle to think of things to do that suit the weather better!

I've come up with:

Beef stew but done in the slow cooker
Chicken burritos
Moroccon prawns and cous cous
Piri piri chicken legs and spicy rice
Sausages bacon eggs hash browns beans (ok not idea in the weather maybe but fry up always a
winner!)
Salmon in sun-dried tomato sauce with potatoes veg etc
Fishcakes with corn on the cobs and salad

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/07/2018 19:08

I cooked last night and let the food cool and fridge today. Ping and go, ping and go.

Ds has just created me a lot more work tonight Hmm Accidentally but still

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/07/2018 20:12

Thanks foxes. Yes, that makes sense as I hate cooking and have DD1 who is quite fussy so probably destined not to like meal planning Grin. Wh0Kn0ws and Cassandra, I am in your camp Smile. I am also one of these people who eats to live and although I can appreciate good food it just seems like such a massive hassle when combined with planing, cooking and clearing away. That’s without the joys of eating with children!

I am always very impressed by your meals though SC, zoo and foxes.

Ping and go is always good Hills.

Salmon in sun-dried tomato sauce sounds yummy foxes
I love to feed people, always have.just a bit jaded in heat and the limitations of lil zoo diet at mo.like foxes kids mine eat most things-ds hate hot food(chilli) but enjoys fragrant so eats very mild curry etc, whereas lil zoo adores all things chilli,pickle/vinegary flavours float her boat too(she's weird with potato products and parsnips).dd2 vegetarian but eats anything in that category but aubergine...I'm still working on ways to make it more palatable.they all love green veg if any kind, nuts n seeds, wide variety fruits n veggies etc.love herbs(we all bit meh coriander.i personally find it a bit soapy tasting)
I collect recipes from magazines etc.ive 7 folders of them(roughly half are baking, half actual meals and the can be broken down to breakfast, lunch and dinners.ive also got A4 notebooks full recipes accrued whilst zoolets at library groups me scribbling away from cookbooks whilst they doing whatever!!

I think I could easily cook something different every night for a year or even two,and at least couple months worth different breakfasts, more soups than you can shake a stick at.
I need get back in the kitchen n reconnect to what I love

DS has eaten a slice of toast tonight!!(he's been eat a dry cracker or two once or twice a day past two days)has last of anti sickness drugs tonight so have see how he is tom...

Cagliostro · 10/07/2018 22:05

Meal planning for me has been killed by a crap tiny kitchen with no counter space and a useless oven. And a fussy DS. At least one of these will be solved by moving into the new house Hmm

ta da
✅bought some bits for the house (no laundry baskets or bread bins though)
✅emails about trampolining
✅bit of laundry
✅moved some stuff around at the new house as DH had unpacked right where the piano is going on Friday 🤦‍♀️
✅for the first time ever I SHINED MY SINK!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/07/2018 22:23

Yay cag

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 00:29

Whey hey re: sink shining Cag! Smile

Oh no you have your hands full with two poorly DC Zoo Flowers

Foxes panic attacks have been suggested as one possibility but as dh is normally very calm/laid back and he is usually relaxing at night (watching TV or asleep) when attacks happen, it doesn't seem likely (but one never knows I suppose!).

Cardiologist today did another heart scan, hooked him up to plastic octopus thing while he cycled, and did numerous other tests and they all came back fine (in fact she said his heart was v strong). But she did say his veins were a bit "flat" (this was in French so not sure if that's correct medical term) which may have caused symptoms and has said he needs to drink lots more water, lose weight, take a holiday etc! Somewhat reassured because she said he is not going to have a heart attack any time soon! (Here's hoping!)

I'm with Hills/Cag in that my kitchen (crap storage - no counter space) rather takes the shine off cooking but I enjoy it otherwise!

Toostressy sure I have bored everyone with this before but fwiw my weekly meal plan is roughly as follows:

SUN: roast and trimmings
MON: cold cuts with either veg or salad
TUES: veggie (usually pasta dish) plus some sort of baking (biscuits, traybake or cake) for DD packed lunches/after school snacks
WED: chicken or sausages
THURS: veggie (pulses - curries/casseroles) and at same time as chopping veg make veg soup for w/e
FRI: fish (fishcakes/fillets/fish pie)
SAT: if not entertaining, then take out or something very easy like beans on toast or baked spuds etc.

Another way of simplifying things is to "cook once/eat twice" eg

Make veg tray bake (with lots of toms, red peppers , garlic and olive oil , sprigs thyme) to have with chicken breast or fish fillet one night, and make enough to puree second night to eat as sauce for pasta or rice.

Or roast a shoulder or fillet of pork - or chickens - and have with usual trimmings one day. Then shred meat finely and bung in broth made from stock, spring onions, tinned sweet corn, red peppers, chillis with udon noodles and coriander the next day - very quick Asian style soup.

Wing flaps to everyone else!

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 00:37

Zoo read somewhere (or saw on telly) that people physically taste coriander differently ie you either taste it as "soapy" or not! Same way some peoples' pee smells wierd after eating asparagus and some doesn't! Different enzymes (or something!)

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 00:51

Oh yes, Flying!

Ta da cont/d...
lunch for everyone (pasta with tom & red pepper sauce, basil, parmesan)
food shopping
chemist/bank/patisserie run
hung up wool wash X 2
fed wms again
filled and emptied DW again
med app with dh
dog walk 2
cooked supper (kedgeree & lemon tart) and tidied up
watched footie, rather Sad at outcome but the lads did well!
G'night all!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/07/2018 05:42

I'm up early and racing complete chores whilst col.dp informs me storm Chris a comin' at weekend

SC that's interesting about coriander...I'd heard about asparagus(and beets make some people pee purple/blue but alas not the zoolets who are very disappointed about that)
Tada
Fed cats
Wash on
Bleach lav
Ironing
Wash in dryer (princess zoo and her fluffy towels)
More wash on

I see there's been huge recall on frozen veg over listeria.....

foxessocks · 11/07/2018 07:17

I hate coriander! Bluergh.

Yes zoo I have been making sure I cook all my frozen veg really well. I don't think mine were on the list but I haven't rechecked it since they kept adding to it. Seems to be mostly sweetcorn related doesn't it? Any mixed veg with sweetcorn in it etc.

Sc my dad mainly had the panic attacks once he was relaxing at home so it is a possibility. Also I always considered myself a pretty laid back person but I have had them in the past. Certain things trigger them. Might be worth looking into and regardless it does sound like he needs rest anyway. If he will do that!

Last night ds was up from 11 - 12 screaming , he wouldn't be picked up or anything just screaming. Don't know if he was in pain or what , at 12 he stopped , had a bit of a cuddle and went back to sleep and he's still asleep now. He is being very odd at the moment. Maybe it's his last teeth or something.

I have to take the car to the garage today and then get myself and ds back home on the bus in time to pick up dd at lunchtime. The bus service around here is bit particularly reliable and they are few and far between. I'm worried I may find myself walking! (Which is possible but a really long way!)

foxessocks · 11/07/2018 07:18

NOT particularly reliable I mean!

foxessocks · 11/07/2018 07:22

To do
Daily routine
Swish and swipe downstairs loo
15 minutes decluttering kitchen
Clean out fridge
Make raspberry pine nut bars
Check some vouchers

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/07/2018 07:56

raspberry pine nuts bars recipe foxes please 😋😋😋😋😋

Zoolets fed and watered (D's has had two slices toast-first half decent food since Thursday) but he hasn't moved out of bed yet...
Pack ups made
Dd2 has left
Living room and kitchen floors swept
Littertray and bins emptied

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 11/07/2018 08:09

Morning all.

Thanks for meal plan ideas SC. Oh dear, that does sound a busy morning foxes. Always an extra layer of complexity when DC involved in these things.

zoo BrewBrewBrew

Well I have not had a good start to the day as I have gone to the wrong place for some training I am having. Luckily I got here early (DH has DDs on Wednesdays so I try to get in early to play catch up at work) but have had to jump on the bus. Will be touch and go whether I make it on time and will have to get bus back later to then drive home. This will take ages. Aaaaaghgh. Does anyone else completely despair of themselves at times AngrySadConfused?!

Anyway, I will be on later to check on the thread. Hope you all have a better start to the day than me.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2018 08:29

Night terrors foxes? he'd be the right age for a few.

Today I am painting our meal planning board. Ain't anything fancy. Just an old pin board, some pins and some brown luggage label type things. But it does need a freshen up

ta da
get ds' shirt dry
find him clothes and make him toast Hmm

I have woken up with a pink eye that is sore as anything. Contacts issue yesterday. So will be blind today and going to get some eye wash as my tears are like grit and have been for a while. Optician recommends Omega oil so need to track some palatable ones. Why is it the english like horse pills? I want the foreign ones we had as kids that were tiny and didn't repeat oil at you throughout the day!

Mahoosive to do list today, involving the loft the bottom of the landing cupboard and the spare room dummping ground on the search of specific paperwork Hmm fun fun fun...

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 08:29

That's very interesting about your dad having panic attacks at night Foxes, thanks for info. Deffo still need to consider it as a possibility. DH does have huge stress at work and he had had exceptionally busy week last week.

Oh no Toostressy hope your day gets better!

Zoo glad your DS is eating which must be a good sign hopefully!

Think listeria scare relates to quite a few veg but sweet corn being mentioned because people tend to eat it raw more often than say spinach. Will try and find more info. Bit scary that freezing doesn't kill it though.

I had more gynae/pain nausea last night so going slowly this morning. What a bunch of crocks we are!

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 08:37

Why is it the English like horse pills?

Because they have an aversion to suppositories Hills?

Grin Grin Grin

Good luck with paper hunt!

And meant to say Foxes sorry you have such a long trek today on so little sleep!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/07/2018 08:43

does anyone else despair of themselves
On a daily basis stressy....

Rang docs,on triage ringback as D's out of antiemetics.think feeling bit better s long doesn't move but as schools are pita butt covering regarding medical intervention etc, plus I need a vague guide as to what's normal and what isn't as DP took him to and don't listen and I been running blind with this!!

Have vets today too-kits due some jabs and tabby need check up and more meds.shes become an absolute tinker since her low dose steroids started,so mischievous and into ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING her sister often looks at her as she leaps on her napping as if to say FFS stop taking the meds and calm down love!!(she just wanted lay in Laps and cuddle a lot,now she won't sit on you and wants play/investigate a lot of the time)

Washings dry fold n put away
More on airers
Go tackle rest of the ironing whilst dp on school run with lil zoo.she left crying tummy hurt.i am fed up of everything.my kids eat well, why are they so chuffing Ill all the time?!HmmSad

Right, best crack on with the ironing

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2018 08:43

But but the pills that I like are NOT suppositories!!!! Shock they are just a concentrated dose.

Zoo I hope not about the storm, I have a lot of travelling to do. I am in 3 different parts of the country on 3 different days this weekend Hmm But at least I get to sleep in my own bed so that! is something Blush

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/07/2018 08:44

Forgot to add, hope you feeling a little better SCslow and steady missusWink

Scoopofchaff · 11/07/2018 09:21

Thanks Zoo! Hope your various appts today work out and arf at cat conversation Grin

Have you booked your follow up GP appt yet? [pointy stare]

Yeah just joshing Hills they are obsessed with suppositories over here! Grin. Hope travelling ok!

Entire country is in mourning today after last night's match. Thought postman was going to cry on me today.

HillsBesideTheSea · 11/07/2018 09:47

Crying sounds like a good plan, I have just had to tackle mum over the long term care plan for dad and to get her to recognise that with the condition that we think he has and he still won't bloody tell anyone what he is diagnosed with that it is highly likely that he is going to have to end up in a nursing home. She has acknowledge it finally and we have agreed that she will still feel guilty but what is for the best is the only choice we can make and that feeling guilt for making the best choice is not the best option. She can now process that in the duration to the point and will cope with it better when it comes than if it is a shock decision iyswim. Hard conversations no matter when had but better when not under pressure. We have discussed the point when we think that we need to consider the placement too. ie mum just can't provide 24hr care and any specialist care needs. Hopefully it means I can best support the pair of them and give them as much independence as possible whilst possible.

And on that cheerful note I am going to tackle the loft... Yay spiders lurking with intent...
