Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Happy flying everyone.

Good look with furry dipping SC😂
Cag got anti sickness pills..

CassandraLamontaigne · 09/07/2018 10:51

It's cooler here today so all of you who are still melting in the heat can have my freezer stash of Magnums - sounds like you could have done with them at the petting zoo Foxes

Zoo what an impressive list, nothing like an unexpected and totally unwanted visit from school to force help you put a rocket in it. Can't believe the school might call over - the horror 😯 a doctor's note should be sufficient.

SC I hope DP's doctor is more helpful this time

Cag IKEA are awful to let you down but I'm glad your DP is getting on with it. Good for him!

My ta da list so far
Up, dressed (no shoes)
Made bed
Tidied kitchen
Stripped horrible mouse poo covered cushions and put in wm
DH hoovered sofa but not the rest of the room because we had only talked about him hoovering the bloody sofa

To do
Hang out wash later
Ooops forgot to turn on dw, I'll do it now
Drop box to charity shop
Hang curtains in spare room
Continue on my decluttering roll from yesterday.

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/07/2018 10:56

And i am back. Managed to get few bits of uniform to try out although not much in stock in correct size and colour. Looking on the trial thread this seems to be an issue all around.

cag Ikea are bastards for this kind of thing! Like you need the stress of bed building on moving day!

CassandraLamontaigne · 09/07/2018 10:56

Strike through fail above. Sigh!
put practice strike through on to do list

SC thanks for the advice re mice. We found evidence of them when we moved in here, house had been empty for a few months and DH apparently found a horror scene of the dead forgotten squeaker in a cupboard. Which thankfully he cleaned up
We've had no more problems since then, hoovered and Dettol-ed everything!
Just hadn't lifted the sofa cushions. Ugh

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/07/2018 10:57

21 here atm! Cloudy and a nice breeze! Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 11:19

Are you showing off I'veGrin

Cass we don't give doctors notes.apparently if off 2days it's for "child protection" purposes or maybe just nosey bastards try to keep Ofsted at bay over attendance Hmm his primary school you had to take in script meds to be photocopied for evidence.im expecting them to note his meds if they do turn up
I must admit it's fired me to do way more than I would ve thus far as I really tired,CBA and more than gentle glowing from my manic exertions😂

As I'm sat her now,I can see the clutter mountain on dining table
Really should get up and deal with that

I've how's the bedrooms coming along?
I'm dreading uniform this year, lil zoo school is becoming an academy so it's tie(real one,not clip on like senior school),logo jumper and white shirts.we get a tie and a jumper free, but as you would expect of this age group a back up tie will be necessary and I always have a couple of jumpers/cardi as there tends to be a vortex that eats those DC take off for more than couple of minutes --lil zoo managed to lose one trainer at old school.one?how?!--
DS needs new jog bottoms that are school specific/order direct think fecking expensive
Dd2 needs new blazer (school wear shop so not as bad.at least it's the "real deal" when hers went academy it was a prototype one and the later version(this school year) is a bit water resistant, whereas hers a drop water and blood, soaked!
I miss cheapish Asda uniform all the wayGrin

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 11:22

Drop of water and BOOF
My phone has clearly over heated, although i still think fireballs stead furballs is the best of the day...
So farGrin

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/07/2018 11:24

zoo i havent managed to start bedroom yet i am recovering from my 2000 step trip to tesco and back Wink

Currently uploading bloody shop and scan stuff (supposed do this by sunday) Blush

We havent experienced secondary uniforms yet but i have looked online and weighed up costs. Unfortunate thing for us is ds1 is awful with clothes, so cant pass anything on to ds2 ever. Ds2 as it goes takes good care of his stuff.

Ds1 has once lost one school shoe at school ....

Scoopofchaff · 09/07/2018 11:26

Sorry your ds still feeling so rotten Zoo Flowers. Poor lad.

Scoopofchaff · 09/07/2018 11:31

Cassandra oh that's a relief re: mouse situation!

ARF at "dead forgotten squeaker"

Grin Grin Grin

Scoopofchaff · 09/07/2018 11:38

I've so agree about IKEA. They have a monopoly here because there are either mahoosivey ridiculously expensive furniture shops (style circa 1985) or ridiculously cheap and flimsy furniture shops (devoid of any style at all) ) and nothing in between. So absolutely everyone goes to IKEA and boy do they take advantage! Not just priice-wise but customer service-wise (ie zilch) too!

Scoopofchaff · 09/07/2018 11:39

Ps Cassandra doctors and health care really excellent here but they seem to have all buggered off on holiday today Hmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 09/07/2018 12:02

zoo, I am careful of what medical stuff I comment online but (as i’m Sure you would do anyway) just keep an eye on your DS and if he stops peeing you will need to contact a doctor.

SC, hope you get some answers about DH soon.

zoo and Ive, yes, secondary uniform seems to be a massive price rise (and ridiculously strict and I say this even though I am in favour of school uniforms in general) from primary.

Good news re no further mice evidence Cassandra.

How annoying about ikea Cag. I think Hills is right; the only option is to view it as an opportunity to do as much as possible of the other stuff while you have help around.

I am currently doing the home bleugh. For newcomers, this is Flylady’s home blessing hour

which is a bloody joke. The idea is you only clean for an hour once a week and that is your ‘weekly clean of the house’ as you have kept on top of it through the week. It takes me at least 2 hours, 3 to do it anywhere near properly. It makes me laugh how professional cleaners would want a couple of hours at least for a weekly clean but we are meant to do it in an hour.

Going to get back on it!

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 12:15

We have cracked on quite satisfactorily really. Unfortunately DSD got called into work so couldn’t come back here, but the Caglets have packed up more books (I can’t believe how many there have been! Considering we got rid of a couple of hundred last year!), I’ve done a box of smaller games and some piano/recorder books, they’ve collected most of their teddies into (heavily labelled) binbags, and DS is now dusting and packing his bionicles. (That’s a type of Lego thing - autocorrect wanted to say he was packing his bionic legs :o)

DH is currently on the phone to British Gas (seems to be all sorted, and they also discussed the World Cup obviously 🙄) and the chair covers are on a hot wash because OMG they were disgusting

foxessocks · 09/07/2018 12:22

Ta da
Been to shops with ds and survived three of his mega tantrums Hmm
Emptied dishwasher
Trying to get ds to eat his lunch so I can put him to bed for a bit and actually get something useful done.

To do
Finish daily routine
15 minutes decluttering kitchen
Scrub hob
Towels etc
Change dc bed sheets
Hoover
Mop
Dusting
Polish mirrors
Empty bins
Swish and swipe bathroom

Am really trying to get back into routine but have had pretty much two weeks not doing a lot of house stuff so I'm struggling and also it's too hot to actually do much anyway!

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/07/2018 13:56

Actually I don't SC it just gives more weight to the potential issue of school refusing again SadAngry

Lots of work going on here. Should have lunch, don't want lunch. Might have to have some ice cream Blush

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/07/2018 13:57

Also whils cooler it is still too fucking hot to be deep cleaning. And the words "he's the fucking reason we can't have nice things have already been muttered far far too many times today" Hmm

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 14:37

Argh progress has stalled. Lunch eaten, tempers frayed even further.

Going to attempt to sort through the shoes now.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 15:31

Dining table never got declutter ed.i ran out of steam.i have just decluttered some malteser buttons that were in the fridge...

Arf at bionic leg dusting cag

Stressy he weed twice yesterday, today dad carry him to the loo at noon, nothing since.hes managed to get a 500ml bottle down today((most he's managed since hot I'll been 100-200mls despite endless encouraging nagging))
Am I to assume couple times a day for a couple of days, then start worrying?(already worrying, that boys nothing but a worry but I mean like it needs seeing worrying)

Cagliostro · 09/07/2018 15:36

Right. Progress reinstated. Shoes pretty much sorted - some chucked, some to charity, most of the keeping ones in a tub to take over to the new house as we don’t need them in the next couple of weeks.

Cupboard under the stairs is now empty and vacuumed and repacked - all that charity shop stuff is at the back (friend coming on Friday when the shop is open). At the front is the stuff we have packed today that can go on Wednesday when a different friend is free to pop over.

Mum is coming tomorrow for a couple of days, not sure that’ll be much help TBH but the company will be nice at least!

foxessocks · 09/07/2018 15:52

zoo think I missed your ds is poorly? I would think that's not enough weeing but then it is very hot. Maybe a trip to the GP to put your mind at rest?

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/07/2018 18:22

What was in the meal deal foxes(nosey)

foxessocks · 09/07/2018 19:21

I got it a few weeks ago and froze some of it but I think it was- a whole chicken, chicken breasts, minted lamb chops, sirloin steaks, bacon, eggs ...think that was it. £25 in total.
